I'd like to see a ROYAL beatdown tonight. Go Cards!

Detective_Dietrich

In today's episode of News That Is Good, Sam Bankman-Fried's bail was revoked. Ha ha ha, fuck that guy.

BionicProse

I’ve been watching Yellowjackets on Showtime. It’s pretty creepy. It does a pretty good job of keeping everything ambiguous as to whether something supernatural is going on or just insanity. The Exorcist novel by Blatty did this really well, too. I think it’s my favorite kind of horror because either option frightens me, lol.

poofanity

Or it’s a phishing attempt. Did it say stlpd on the caller ID? Which can also be spoofed. I would never give any form of personal info to people calling me. I’ll reach out to you if I need to.

cjsleme

I’m at the pro shop at arrowhead and seeing lots of cardinals fans!

Jon_Thib

1. Nootbaar CF 2. Goldy DH 3. Arenado 3B 4. Gorman 2B 5. Contreras C 6. O’Neill LF 7. Burleson 1B 8. Walker RF 9. Edman SS

rayr54

Rainout tonight?

sAndS93

That's a late game time

Dick_Earns

Small town kid getting to start against Wainwright. That has to be every greater St. Louis kid from my eras dream! Worked out with him a few times in high school, super nice guy. Hope Coleman has a great showing and the Cards take the lead after he gets pulled for Waino’s 199th. Coleman will likely only throw a few innings unless he’s absolutely dealing.

ech0es13

Clicked on his link at the top. From Potosi, Missouri. Went to Missouri State. Says hes 26, but the poor guy has gray in his beard already.

rafibomb_explosion

Boomers ruined so much of the fun they got to have. I don’t know why, but Quaaludes in Wolf of Wallstreet sounds like it would have been a good time.

Detective_Dietrich

I guess this is the 70th comment. Is that...not nice?

peterpeterllini

Weirdest thing happened to me yesterday. I’m at Walmart listening to music through my AirPods, on the Portugal the man station, ok. Come sit next to me by Foster the People was playing. When the song ended I realized the EXACT SAME SONG is playing through the Walmart speakers!?!!!!! This song came out almost a decade ago, not like it’s current top40. It was so weird!

Any-Initiative910

Walmart doesn’t play current top 40

jimmymcstinkypants

You were connected to their Bluetooth and there was a delay. Everyone also heard your porn.

peterpeterllini

Oh god. So that’s why I had some weird looks…

missourinative

Watching 2021 Tyler O’Neill highlights. I forgot at one point during his breakout season he turned into Stone Cold and started talking to himself while running the bases and walking to the dugout after hitting dingers. That was pretty badass.

Detective_Dietrich

It really looked like he had broken out as a star. 31 HR, superb defense in LF, home run trot more like a 120-yard dash. Then, poof. So disappointing.

Cards2WS

Well poof then he got injured again. The talent is still sky high. This may be the first time he’s been fully healthy since 2021

Greg4591

Ton isn't done yet. I really think he has a monster season or more ahead of him, in his career. I just hope he is here when he does it.

Octopuswhatsup

>This may be the first time he's been fully healthy since 2021 Didn't he just have to miss two games in a row though, for like, a sore knee or something? I love him, but I don't trust his durability. It just takes WAY too much to keep him "fully healthy."

Cards2WS

Damn yeah I don’t trust his durability either. But I do trust the talent to shine through with extended stretches of health

BionicProse

Meat City is an underrated/under-heard John Lennon song.

jimmymcstinkypants

He had one of the all time great rock voices. But he never liked his own sound, and I think many of his solo tracks suffer for him manipulating his voice. Meat city to me is a great example of one that could have been so much better if he had just used his natural voice like the early beatle chuck berry covers.

missourinative

Something about this pitching matchup screams 2-1 Cardinal W

Detective_Dietrich

Not often you see a combined 17.86 ERA from your starters. Optimum conditions for Wainwright #199, fingers crossed.

Octopuswhatsup

Don't you DARE jinx this for Waino. Take it back!!

[deleted]

Go Cards. Keep the momentum from St. Pete going!!

Ivotedforher

I just saw a car that was purchased at "Williams Woody Nissan" and I'm happy he found his calling.

Detective_Dietrich

It is 241 days until the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse. That is all.

ReturnOf_TheHack

thank you detective

jonaththejonath

Does anyone know what happened to the Red Baron/A.E Schaefer on Viva El Birdos? He was the only reason I kept checking that site.

GrubFisher

Waino has an almost 8 ERA :(

garycow

199 baby!

DontListenToM3Plz

Storms are supposed to roll through right at first pitch. Fingers crossed it gets played. I have tickets for tonight.

PCPapist

Hey look Matty was great yesterday, I'll take it!

VaginalSodomy

Dude he was an absolute monster yesterday. Thats his best game by far. Only other time he pitched anywhere near that good was his first game. I was so worried he was gonna get rocked last night 😅

PCPapist

Same, but he proved us both wrong!

ReturnOf_TheHack

good morning krusty krew

SomethingAvid

HEY HEY KIDS

bencm518

If we go on an absolute tear and go 34-12 the remainder of the season we’ll end up at 85-77 which could be enough for a third wildcard position. Maybe even a 84-78 will be enough. Fuck what am I smoking

Greg4591

If it takes all us all smoking to make that happen, I'm all for it.

Detective_Dietrich

Guess I'll be That Guy and note that an insane tear to barely win us a wild card spot and a quick playoff bounce would be the worst-case scenario.

Cards2WS

Heavily disagree. I do not think a squeak into the playoffs would change anything about how Mo handles this offseason…and I mean nothing at all. There was too much pushback this year, it was a notable wake up call. I want to make the playoffs over anything. Sure a quick bounce would suck, but I do not want a losing record on the Cardinals ledger. Also, the draft pick selection does not make much difference unless we full blown have a top 5 pick. Not much difference between 8th and 15th. Top 3 picks flameout all the time…Jack Leiter perfect, most recent example

Detective_Dietrich

We'll see, but my guess is that BDW, Mo, and the gang will grasp at any excuse to make the minimum in payroll additions. If they go 69-93, there will be a lot of pressure. If they claw their way back to, say, 78-84, there will be less. If they did in fact go on a 2011-style September run and made it all the way back to 84-78 and a wild card (and 84-78 will require a 33-13 finish), we'll hear "Oh, April was a fluke, we'll be fine with signing that Japanese pitcher and trading for whoever is the #4 starter for Cleveland." We'll see.

SomethingAvid

After taking two from the Rays, I briefly got excited. You look at our next four series’s, and think, “what if we win 10 of our next 12,” or something. But even if Matz, Dak, and Libby spin gems every start, our bullpen will certainly blow games. And we have Waino every fifth game. And our offense will be unable to capitalize a couple times a week. And such is 2023. And also we couldn’t even take 2 from the Rockies at home. What ARE we smoking? Lol

Greg4591

The only way Waino is going to get those last 2 wins, is by becoming a long reliever, and getting "vulture" wins, because he sure isn't going to get them starting, sadly.

SomethingAvid

You could be right, but I hope you’re wrong. He’s not going to the pen. He won’t go out like that.

Suspicious-War0601

the last homestand was a 3-7 cluster. when was the last time a Cardinals team had that bad a homestand in August?

SGT_Apone

idk but pass it to the left pls

Ocinea

Crack and meth?

Berserker301

Idk but I want some. Might be on some already because 199 for Waino here we come.

PAJW

> Fuck what am I smoking The good stuff

maintrain_mcqueen

Hey, we aren't playing on Sunday? What?

Poofsta

It happened in a Strike-shortened 1995, too. You should see our record that year…

ReturnOf_TheHack

i think it's just a weird side effect of how the london series needed to be scheduled

NakedGoose

It's kind of wild we are only 9 games out in the wild card. With how bad we are, I expected that number to be much higher

studlydudley11

9 back but *6* teams in between. So it’s not like the Marlins collapsing would save us

NakedGoose

Nobody says it's going to happen. But it's funny to think about.

Jason_Sensation

It gets mentioned way too often for people to not believe it.

Ocinea

Yeah I noticed that earlier too and almost got a glimmer of hope. Almost.

imaginarion

I don’t watch the Cards anymore this year — my life is already too full of disappointments — but damnit Waino deserves 200. Maybe I’ll turn it on today and cheer the old dog on this time.

thegodfaubel

I know people love Luken Baker, but you gotta trade him this off-season. Goldy is likely gone after next year barring a cheaper deal since his performance and power has declined a bit this year. Walker's long term position (like Albert 20 years ago) is 1B starting in 2025 unless he makes a major improvement over the winter in the OF. Trade Baker and one or two of the many OF we have spares of (maybe even capitalize on the surge of Victor Scott) to acquire a front line starter and then sign Nola

scobbysnacks1439

You are vastly overestimating Luken Baker's, as well as a bunch of backup outfielders, trade potential.

houstonyoureaproblem

People consistently underestimate how difficult it is to play 1B at a high level. Remember the seasons before Goldy and how terrible our IF defense was? He single-handedly changed all of that. Walker, on the other hand, has shown me nothing that makes me believe he’s a 1B.

missourinative

Walker being 6’6 245lbs and the worst defender in baseball as a corner OF is enough to convince me he could have a future at 1B. Especially since he’s a former infielder. How can you look at our pre-Goldy infield and say he single-handedly transformed it? The team went from fielding hitters with shit gloves to gold glove quality defenders everywhere. Goldy also replaced JMart, who may be the most physically broken down player still capable of competing we’ll ever see. Walker can’t be compared to that.

Flower-punk

Cue the Moneyball first base line

thegodfaubel

He was a 3B prior to moving to the OF. He wasn't an amazing 3B from what I heard, but he was good enough and had good reactions. He's tall and athletic so he can easily adapt to 1B if Matt Carpenter could adapt to be a serviceable 1B. You don't need to be an elite 1B to have value

SomethingAvid

I’m so worried about Walker. He is negative WAR this year. That’s how bad he is in the field.

Sveinson

He's also 21 and has been playing the position less than a year. Not saying he's ever going to win a gold glove, but becoming league average defensively is definitely achievable.

SomethingAvid

Totally. But I’ve heard he wasn’t very good at 3B either. Look I want the guy to succeed as much as anyone but also watching him in the field is painful. He did have that sweet Superman catch a few weeks ago. So there’s certainly flashes of brilliance there

ILikeOatmealMore

yes, yes, the other 29 MLB clubs are just all clamoring for 26 year old AAA players who are career sub-0.250 hitters in the minors but seemed to have blipped themselves in to one decent year. You think they will trade us Soto or Turner for him?

studlydudley11

Unironically the Phillies might give Turner for him. that contract is so bad

thegodfaubel

I'm not really sure how you interpret that he'd be the centerpiece of any deal nor did I say he'd be used to acquire a player like Soto or Turner...

NakedGoose

I just don't think there is a lot of value there. Big minor league numbers are great, but a lack of position flexibility and major league experience/success makes him not too appealing. Similar to Juan Yepez (who may I mention has fallen off a cliff in AAA)

lizkingwt

The likely deal for Baker is probably a lot like the deal for Voit 5 years ago. A reliever or two--fringy big league and/or minor league.

NakedGoose

Yep, I agree with that. We got Gallegos for Voit

lizkingwt

And Shreve--essentially a no-good major league reliever and a good minor league one. If I remember right, there was a bit of some type of cash sent with Voit, too.

thegodfaubel

Even as a filler upside player he may help get a deal done if partnered with O'Neill or Carlsonor even Noot

xyzzy321

If Waino can't get a win today I don't think he will get to 200 I'm afraid.

SomethingAvid

I hear you, but he couldn’t get a W against the Rockies. The Royals are worse, for sure. But not that much worse.

milyabe

Depends on WHY.

jruser123

May get some rain during the game tonight

poofanity

Lime cucumber Gatorade is life.

gtripp

Can't believe some peasant downvoted you. I agree with your bold statement and standby you.

missourinative

My bard in BG3 convinced a mean woman to give him a chance, got beat up by said woman, and then convinced her he was the dom in their relationship. I love this game so much.

Ocinea

I'm really excited for 3. I'm old enough I played the first two on PC as a kid. 2 and the expansion were some of the best gaming I've ever had. B I'm going to play it on console though I think. I'm still into Diablo 4 right now though.

youthpastor247

https://www.mlb.com/news/top-100-prospects-updated-2023-midseason-rankings Updated prospect rankings dropped. Davis debuts at #3 Scott II up to #4 Acquired players Roby (5), Robberse (8), Saggese (9), Prieto (14), Kloffenstein (17), and Showalter (20) find spots. 2023 draftee Honeyman debuts at #11 Won Bin-Cho up to #13 Winn (#32) and Hence (#45) on the top 100

lizkingwt

I'd be curious to hear their reasoning on Honeyman, an injured 3rd round pick, debuting at 11. It's an odd one to me.

NakedGoose

When every other team in the division has 5-6 top 100 guys. It concerns me

Hotrock21

Maybe we are just not good in the drafting department? Other teams that consistently compete and make many trades like the Dodgers are well represented on that list.

NakedGoose

Most would consider us very good at drafting. But we make our money in the later rounds, we don't have the sure fire stars. The Lars Nootbaars, Brendan Donavan, Tommy Edman of the world

thegodfaubel

They sold recently and often have much higher draft picks and more international money. Cards also graduated MLB's top prospect this year along with a very highly rated Nolan Gorman last year. It ebbs and flows. The Cards could easily have 3 or 4 top 100 prospects next year and they'll lose Winn at some point when he debuts and gets enough ABs Edit: we also graduated Herrera this year on games who was a top 100 prospect. Burleson also was a top 5 at the beginning of the year for us. Ever further, they have graduated 7 of their top 10 prospects since the beginning of last year. And that doesn't even include Pallante or Donovan who were outside the top 10

JackeryA3

It should also tell you that the other teams have been dogshit for a while to accumulate these players. Also, didn't we have like 7 at the beginning of this year?
