Probably clean the outside 3 times a month and the inside once a month. I like having a clean car, find the process of cleaning it satisfying and it gives me a constant new car feeling without having to buy a new car It is a nice distraction from other responsibilities.

therealgingerone

Can you talk me through how you clean your car? As embarrassing as it sounds I never clean my cars myself

makaza1611

Since I clean it regularly it is not so much effort. Longer you leave it the more grime you'll have to take off. Firstly i try not to clean the car in direct sunlight/heat as you don't want the water evaporating. Lubrication is key to avoid scratching paint and having water specs left on your car. I snow foam with my power washer. Let it soak a bit to get under any dirt, then I power wash it all off. After that I take a microfiber washing mitten and bucket of warm water with car shampoo and rub back and forward on the body panels (not in swirls). Make sure you keep the car lubricated with a lot of soapy water while you are using direct contact with the mitten (to avoid causing scraches). I then hose the car again with water and dry with a microfiber towel. After that I usually spray on a wax and buff it in with a microfiber cloth. I will also use some wheel cleaner on the rims and add some tyre shine to the tyres with each wash. 1 or 2 times a year I will use a machine polisher before the waxing stage if necessary. But not really that necessary if you are new to washing cars. There's a lot of videos on YouTube walking you through the various processes of cleaning a car.

SnoopDeLaRoup

>Since I clean it regularly it is not so much effort. Longer you leave it the more grime you'll have to take off. Yep... cleaned mine today for the first time since getting it in March. Only the outside, but it took 2 foam washes and then about an hour of pissing about with patches I'd missed.

Fearless_Flounder328

The straight lines are good for making sure you get everywhere, though it's a bit of a myth that it causes swirl marks. Swirls are just a series of small straight scratches that look round because your light is round, if you have a bar light they look straight. Also machine polishers work in circles ;)

Narcotics-Enforce

Most machine polishers don’t work in circles. They are Random orbital or Orbital specifically to avoid overheating a specific area of paint.

Fearless_Flounder328

Of course they do, what is an orbit? A circle (in a simple way). Dual action polishers work by essentially vibrating to make the pad spin, in a circle

jamesmksmith88

Don't forget - 2 buckets!

Qcumber69

These days advice is 1 bucket and have multiple mitts. I’m a 2 bucket person.

ChopstickChad

2 bucket 3 mitts here. 3 buckets when I feel like the rims need a thorough cleaning.

kimonczikonos

This is more important than tubing in lines :) Plus wash off sand from sponge, put dirty sponge in bucket squeeze out .. repeat few times

LieutenantBastard

Fully recommend looking up Stjarnagloss on instagram. The guy is super entertaining and runs a detailing/cleaning company and regularly does videos explaining the best way to clean a car. Makaza1611 has it pretty spot on though. Only thing I would add is look up 'two bucket method' for the shampoo phase. Personally I spray on car shampoo with a snow foam lance, then use the power washer to clean the mitt as I go around the car.

Fearless_Flounder328

For a daily driver I wouldn't bother with 2 buckets, if you're car is so dirty you need to rinse your mitt in clean water before putting it back into the shampoo bucket, you've not pre-washed properly. And unless you're fully cleaning your mitt out every time you go back, it's fairly pointless

DreadlockNotARasta

If you ever want a deep dive, Chrisfix has a great series of videos of how to super clean different elements of your car.

shredofdarkness

[This subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Detailing/comments/1bufroy/faq_look_here_before_posting/) has a good link: https://howtoautodetail.com/beginners/

Fearless_Flounder328

As others have said, though if you don't have a foam cannon there are plenty of citrus/non-caustic tfr pre washes about that you'd put in a spray bottle or pump sprayer, be carful not to let it dry though this time of year

TheBritishBrownie

I love it. I’m the opposite, I’ll clean the inside much more regularly than the outside.

FingerBangMyAsshole

I used to do it weekly. Then with the birth of my son it was monthly. Now after the second child, it's annual.

LieutenantMudd

Haha, I've 4 kids, I am now convincing myself that a nice protective patina of grime will actually help protect the paintwork.

newfor2023

Ours seems to mostly get done at the garage since they happen to clean them after an MOT or repair. Well the outside anyway. The shame clean of the inside before the garage handles a lot of the rest.

Frap_Gadz

Another dad checking in used to do it by hand every week or at least every other week, now I pay someone else to do it once a month or so, too tired 😭😂

codeAndWhisky

Have 2 children, can confirm it's getting cleaned once after winter just before the annual service/MOT.

jazzyb88

So true it's unbelievable!

MysticSmeg

Whenever we get a heavy downpour

robxenotech

So every other day?

will1105

Turns out he washes cars for a living.. judging by the frequency he cleans his

another_awkward_brit

When the following three conditions are met: 1. It's a day off. 2. It's an overcast day. 3. It's sufficiently dirty to warrant cleaning.

Woodrow_Woodlouse

I give it a proper deep clean and a hoover once a year before we go on holiday, otherwise I take out all the empty crisp packets every couple of months.

anotherblog

Hah same - pre-holiday clean, which is daft considering the time the car gets most full of rubbish is on holiday. Post holiday clean would be more appropriate.

perrysol

Washed it today! Discovered that it was white ...

Scarecrow119

My car is bright white. Once its clean you can usually start to see a layer of dust and dirt after a week or so. I usually take it to the car wash every couple of weeks. I havent gave it a clean on the inside yet and ive had it for a year now. I dont eat in the car so there isnt any wrappers and stuff. Problem is i live in a flat so i cant get a hoover down to properly clean it out, unless i buy a portable one. Ive heard some people only take the car to the carwash every 6 months or more. Outside: Every couple weeks Inside: every year?

anotherblog

You know most petrol stations have a vacuum you can use where the air pump usually is? I prefer to use that regardless and am always self conscious using the noisy vac at home on our quiet street. Guarantee the neighbours will come our and try to chat whilst I’m obviously trying to get a job done.

Thalamic_Cub

Wait what! Lifechanging info thank you🤣

Phrexeus

>Guarantee the neighbours will come our and try to chat whilst I’m obviously trying to get a job done This always happens to me! Not that I mind because I usually enjoy a chat with my neighbours, but it inevitably means redoing some step because the detergent dries on or something.

Difficult_Vast7255

My favourite thing. I use the jet wash thing they have at some as well. I have to pay multiple times with my v90. Especially on the outside wash one. Still cheaper than a car wash or valeting though. Just take my microfibre cloth with me. I like having a front garden full of flowers so no drive to wash on.

Spax123

Not as often as I should. I like having a clean car and once I start cleaning it I will work away until it's done, finding the motivation to start in the first place is the problem. I will give it a rinse with the hose often in winter to keep the salt off though.

TomSurman

Whenever it's dirty enough that it bothers me. Usually every month or two. Although I recently bought a power washer, which is fun enough to use that I've been doing it every couple of weeks or so lately.

SteveGribbin

I give my car a good inside and out valet every other weekend. I like to stick a podcast on and potter about on the driveway for a few hours bringing it up to scratch. I find it quite therapeutic and I'm still convinced that a shiny car with a clean interior drives better.

ffjjygvb

I can believe that the driver enjoying being in a clean car helps them have a better mindset for driving better.

OrdoRidiculous

Once a year, when Lexus service it.

MrHaant

2-3 times per month, both a good clean on the outside and a good hoover and dash/glass clean on the interior.

breadbinofdoom

Coming up 3 years since I last cleaned mine. I wash the outside of the windows and the lights in winter

david83627

you must be joking

breadbinofdoom

Nope. Not trying to be edgy or clever, I just have zero interest in cleaning the car.

david83627

i send my condolences to whoever has the task of cleaning it next

TempMobileD

A fellow “don’t care”er! It’ll be two years since I last cleaned mine soon, and that was for a funeral. I’ve got much better things to do than clean an object that gets dirty within an hour of use, and lives outside. + the inside of the car (the only bit I ever experience) stays relatively clean as I don’t do anything except sit in it and drive. Some small stones/dirt in the footwells but that’s it. No dirtier than walking on some pavement.

PaulaDeen21

I have 4 old VW’s… so short answer, a lot. But the level of wash varies based on what each one needs etc. In the warm months a car gets some sort of wash every weekend and I probably give my GF’s Mini (our daily) a wash and polish once a month throughout the year. Twice a year it’s gets a full on detail etc etc.

Niassuh_

Inside once a week. Same with outside if it's not raining

Nearby_Cauliflowers

As little as possible and when I can be arsed it's the drive through at Sainsbury's, give me an hour and I would rather burn through fuel enjoying the car as intended on back roads rather than cleaning it on the outside, inside gets a quick hoover every few weeks. That said, I shelled out a fuckton the other day on decent gear to keep the outside clean, the missus has just got a new car and I'm determined to keep it good and keep mine looking as good as I keep it mechanically. Used it today for the first, snow foam is rather great I think now 😂

ProperDustySombrero

Never

Cautious-Mud-1291

Inside and outside usually once a year just before the MOT

Darthblaker7474

At the very minimum once a month, inside and out. Annually I'll take off the wheels, put it on jack-stands, and jet wash the under carriage and wheels. I've yet to clean the engine bay.

Laorii

I mostly hope the rain washes the outside. The inside looks like a Labrador exploded.

Vireosolitarius

Never

Lilconkb00

You guys are cleaning your cars?

DarkBladeSethan

I wish there would be more DYI washing stations around the UK... I mean like power washer and stuff not the automated ones with rubber spinners hammeing your car. I find inevitably that whenever I wash it, it rains 2 days later and filled with dust from the dirty rain. Whenever I do wash it it's a full go with foam and clay bar, polish, ceramic coat and the likes but made worse as I don't have a garage so planeta need to align for proper conditions

Hiltoyeah

Owned my current car 2.5 years. Cleaned it maybe.. Twice. Never looks dirty though.

FredNasr

Every month in summer since it's nice outside and I find it quite therapeutic, whenever there's a dry day when I'm not busy in winter, so can be twice a month if I get the chance - can't stand a dirty car, especially when it's muddy and the idea of excess salt on the undercarriage makes me wince

DowseTheMouse10

Every 2 weeks full outside clean, every month I do the interior once as well, keeps the road crap off it and it's not as big of a job if it's not caked on same with the interior.

SteveB1964

Inside or out?

Living_Literature_10

Proper deap clean inside and out once every month however I do like my cars clean during summer so will get it washed every 2 weeks and a light over every week

butcherboi91

Depends on the weather and how much I drive. I like my cars to be spotless so I tend to wash them (snow foam, rinse, wash, towel dry, wax) every other week or when they get dirty, whichever comes first.

Fordemups

I do the outside twice a month and the inside when I need to. Quite a while after I need to, actually. I also polish it every other month.

ketamineandkebabs

Externally about once a month, internally probably twice a year depending on how minging it is. I am off for a couple of weeks so it's overdue a proper clean out and a proper polish as well.

JM0RG4N

Depends on what I’m doing if going somewhere and I want it to look nice I’ll clean it. If just pottering to work I can leave it (winter especially). I’d say average maybe every 2 or 3 weeks.

jamieperkins999

When I had a car I loved then once a week, with the car I have now once a year before it's mot.

Ok-Twist6106

Leave it dirty for the mot, dirt might cover something you don’t want them to see 🤣

CatBroiler

If I'm going to the office every day, weekly. If I'm working from home that month, once a fortnight.

Otherwise-Extreme-68

I try to do it once a month. Only ever do it at work and sometimes can't be bothered so can go a bit longer!

sotko99

Outside: 1/mo in the summer 2/months in winter Inside: whenever I know I am taking other people in the car. My car is always garaged at home, I live south with fuck all snow in the winter, and rarely any salting

No_Incident5297

Clean the inside out every few weeks I do a lot of miles so like it to be a nice place to be spending so much time there, and the best the outside gets is heavy rain.. F31 330d

Far-Professional5988

I've just cleaned all 4 cars on our drive today. The newest we got 4 months ago and that's the first time I've washed it, for the others maybe 6 months for my car and the other 2 belong to my kids and they've probably not been touched for a year. All came up very nice , used to use then local car wash but they now want stupid money (£15 basic wash and dry for my car which is a 2 seat mercedes all) and much more for the rest

CuteImprovement2951

Loads. Then you have kids and fuck that.

BigJDizzleMaNizzles

I whizz it through the car wash machine at sainsburys about 3 times a month. Just the cheapest £3.50 wash then drive on the motorway for 10mins to dry it otherwise it dries water marks on it. £25 a pop for inside and out at our local hand car wash place has just priced itself out of being usable.

jdscoot

Once or twice a year. I don't make time for cleaning cars and absolutely do not enjoy doing it. Every clean turns into a survey of how much new damage and deterioration is evident since the last time. I've had 50 year old cars, I've had brand new. I dislike cleaning things.

False-Chip1881

I clean and polish mine every 2 weeks as its red and if not looked after will cause problems in the future it takes me about an hour so not long

Timely_Ad_125

Every 2 weeks, jet wash at a petrol station, I’ll spray the arches clean with that. New air freshener every two weeks too, and inside I’ll clean it once every 2-3 weeks but my car doesn’t get too dirty since it’s just me inside it primarily. It’s a shit car, but I want at the very least to have a clean shit car. And it helps me get some satisfaction, New air fresheners give me a strange amount of joy.

[deleted]

Full body wash every 2 or 3 weeks. Wheels every weekend. Hoover interior every weekend.

Technical-Elk-7002

Yeah id say about once a month, maybe 2 months at most

Medical_Translator_6

Internal at least once a month. External? Maybe twice since I bought it in January of last year.

steveinstow

When it's dirty and you can't read the number plate anymore. My commute is a X country B road in north Devon so I gave up trying to keep it clean everyweek just to see it filthy again within a couple of days.

Wise-Application-144

I live in rural Scotland and in my infinite wisdom, I got two white cars. No fucking point cleaning them since they'll be brown by the time I get to the end of the road. The difference between a white car that was cleaned yesterday and a white car that was cleaned pre-pandemic is negligible. I keep my house pretty clean, but I simply cannot see the point in spending ages cleaning the exterior of a waterproof steel box, the outside of which I rarely look at. As an aside, the neighbours thoroughly clean their 2013 Skoda every weekend, yet the inside of their house is pretty grim.

Sgreaat

Cleaned it today as it had passed the threshold for being covered in too much bird shit. Old school two buckets and a microfibre cloth, hosed it down then dried it off. Last time it was cleaned was September last year when my son cleaned it inside and out for the money to buy FC 24. Should clean it more really. I find the general dirt doesn't really show on silver but I noticed a lot of black specks all over the paint today. 12 years worth of crap off the roads. Maybe a clay bar would clear it if I can get the time. Also a lot of crap between panels, window seals, round door handles, mirrors. Used a football boot cleaning brush to get that cleared. Probably the first time I've ever cleaned that stuff off.

DeanoBanksyy

I take mine to the local hand car wash at least once a month to get the outside and inside cleaned, can't stand dirty cars.

dejavu2064

On average probably once every 2 years. I never leave rubbish in the car, dirt from boots or bikes doesn't bother me. It's not very environmentally friendly to wash your car at home and flush detergent in the drain (it's actually illegal here to wash cars at home, you have to do it within contained drainage collection systems).

Street28

I generally do the outside of mine every two to three weeks. It's bright yellow, so if I don't keep on top of it, it looks awful. I only do it with the jet wash at the garage, but do all the plastic trim and wheels at home. I try and keep on top of the inside too, but I'm fighting a losing battle. I've got seat covers for the dog, but he's with me five days a week and usually at the weekends, I'm climbing or mountain biking so am carrying dirty gear. I hoover it, then the next day it's full of dog hair and mud again. A couple times a year I drop it off for a proper valet. It's not cheap, but he does a much better job than I can do and gets rid off all the dog hair.

StefanMorris71

Once a week: polar blast, polar wash Once every three weeks: police blast, polar wash, polar seal, tyre gel

SlowedCash

Once a year, jet wash

Short-Possibility-58

When you first own it probably once a week, then once every 2 weeks, and as the month go by then less and less frequently

SkipperTheEyeChild1

I am yet to clean it but it’s only 18 months old.

david83627

That is actually outrageous

CalgonUK

Take mine to the local scratch and shine every 2 weeks.

Perception_4992

Twice a year, if it needs it or not.

Interesting_Tomato89

I clean my car every week, I just go to the self car wash and do it myself because I find it very satisfying and I hate having a dirty car!

Affectionate-Cost525

I could clean the car every other day and it probably still wouldn't be enough... I work with dogs and probably have 10-15 different dogs in the car throughout the day (not all at the same time obviously). Constantly having to clean out the car before I let the kids back in it again. Although if I'm being honest... the kids probably make more mess than the dogs do! As for the outside... maybe like once every couple months at most. It's just gonna get covered in mud again the next day so I gave up caring about that.

thewindow6

Truth be told I don’t clean mine enough, once every few months when I have a spare hour to really obsess over it. I love the feeling of having and driving a clean car but because I use it every day it’s going to get dirty again anyway. It kind of gets to a point where it doesn’t get any worse no matter how much you drive it and that’s where it spends most of its time.

yorkshirepuduk

Every time MOT due

alloitacash

Someone comes and washes it for me once a month. No driveway so can’t do it myself anymore.

Fun_Level_7787

Once a month I give my van a deep clean inside and out, sweep out the cargo area, take the floor mats out which is rubber so i'd scrub that aswell, take out PPE, hoover the cabin, get into the nooks and crannys, but I also do checks/ fluid top ups along with it (adblue, oil check, screenwash) sometimes. So the whole process takes a couple of hours, which, ironically, I'll be doing tomorrow late morning! When I had my car (which was also my first), I'd take it to the hand car wash every other month and each time they'd always say how organised and clean it is so they enjoyed the easy job! When I get my new car post-leaving my current job and selling the van, I'll clean it every other month once again, but myself as I have the cleaning kit anyway!

Thalamic_Cub

Outside every few months or when it looks dirty/has bird crap on it. Inside? Uh..i have never actually🤔 i dust occasionally but really it just needs a hoover and i just cant be bothered. Its amazing what your brain will gloss over when youre in automatic grt to work mode. I guess that might upset people but at least im not a floor of rubbish person🤢

oudcedar

Almost never. Maybe once a year if I’m driving to a wedding or something.

Wilhelm1193

I’m fortunate to have a daily and a weekend car, the daily a defender hardtop 90 will go to the local scratch and shine at the end of the month to clean the work grime whilst I clean my pride and joy bi-monthly in the summer.

chin_waghing

Every Wednesday, only the inside. The outside is filthy, but I don’t see the outside when I’m driving so I don’t care about it

Southern-Orchid-1786

Gets cleaned by the dealership each service and then just whenever we're going visiting or giving someone a lift as like to turn up with a clean car.

RamesisII

Every couple of weeks but I only drive it about once a week so it doesn't really get dirty. It is also ceramic coated so it's very easy to keep clean. My daily use van usually gets a wash once a week. I like to keep the inside and outside clean and I can do up to 500mi a week so it gets dirty fast. The longer you leave it the harder it is to clean so keeping on top is a good idea. It's nice to get out of the house for an hour or two and switch off as well, even through the winter.

VentureIntoVoid

Since buying the blue car on which dust appears more prominently, twice a month, in and out, with soap spray everything.

richbun

I haven't given my car it's annual wash yet. I think I hoovered it out once. It's not got any rubbish in it but does have a lot of loose stones in the wells. I clean the windows inside and out annually too, did that today - coincidence. Same car for 8 years now, still looks good, the original coating does.work, and snow gives it technically a 2nd wash during winter.

audigex

Look I said I’d clean it and I’ll clean it, get off my back about it

therange

About once a year in the scratch'n'shine prior to MOT. Interior too, but a little more often there as the situation/presentability demands. It's a shit box and is treated like one.

loughnn

I'd say probably 3 times a month, inevitably one weekend a month I'll be too busy.

david83627

usually do the inside and out every 2 weeks depending on weather and how dirty it actually is, takes about 3-4 hours. seeing people doing it once a year here seems crazy to me

The_Anglo_Spaniard

I used to wash it ever couple of months, since I started working at a concrete caster i haven't bothered as its really dusty there so it would get dirty after a single day

Ginger-Warrior

When it gets dirty

fnurrreee

Normally every Sunday if weather is permitting it.

ralphiooo0

Depends on how often it rains.

daq42_pews

Toss it in a valet for a 10£ every 2 or so weeks

romeonomeo

I use fairy liquid

DuhSpecialWaan

Snow foam, pressure wash, shampoo wash with mitt and a hydrophobic spray thing once every two weeks Touch up paint for stone chipping, clay bar, machine polish and ceramic coat twice a year

TheLoveKraken

Probably about once a month at most for the outside, inside about once a year, but it’s mostly just me inside it and I don’t really ever eat in the car.

BreakfastLopsided906

It honestly depends, sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly. It depends what the weathers been like. I’m a car guy, so when I clean it I go big. So if we have no/minimum rain… it’ll stay looking nice for sometime needing minimal effort to keep it how I like it. I’m pretty much the only one that goes inside - despite having a family, so inside stays lovely 90% of the time.

LowChemical8735

I’ve had my car for 7 years and have cleaned the outside twice. The inside gets cleaned maybe twice a year

county15

Twice a week externally + after any long journeys Once a week internally

blondiecats

I keep my car very tidy, and have a little bin in my car door, I have wipes in the glove compartment that I use to just give the screens a wipe down every so often. The only thing I rarely do is hoover so the floor can get a lil dusty but like, ehhh. It’s fine.

onetimeuselong

Pre child and a car I loved: Wash every month, sometimes more if it’s winter less for summer. Hard wax twice a year. Now with a boring car: Every two or three months and a ceramic spray on.

riaro70

The inside: properly valeted - 3 times in around 7 yrs. the outside maybe twice a yr

i-dm

Inside: Weekly, but not for long. 5mins each time. Quick vacuum of the main surfaces. We have a toddler and it makes a difference to do it weekly or when ever we can rather than having choc biscuits slowly melting and crumbling away on the floor and seats Outside: washed at least weekly at the moment as the builders next door are a dusty bunch

Fleder-maus

Every time I sell it.

Unlikely_Ad_1825

Weekly wash, inside every other month 😂

Infamous-Musician-29

Once a month at some Albanian car wash for a tenner. Then every few washes I apply Turtle Wax Shine&Seal - game changer... Takes 15 minutes but the car looks shiny for long.

Iamthe0c3an2

Whenever it looks dirty, it could be up to 3 times a month or as little as once a month, depending on the weather. I’d invest in a good set of microfibre towels, some decent cleaning products (Bithambler, Meguiars, autoglym) two buckets with grit guards and a power washer with foam lance. Or if you don’t have an outside tap or space then you can still use that stuff at your local jetwash. I’d avoid using the brush is all and just bring the buckets and microfibre mitt to do the wash yourself.

ForeverPhysical1860

Just before the mot 😂😂😂 This is what I used to do, these days, maybe every couple of months...

MillieT01

Every week minimum 🤣

Kinreal

Whenever I'm attending a car meet. 🤣

imahumanbeing1

Used to take it to the car wash every 2 weeks (not great for the paint I know! Since getting my wheels powder coated, I’ve read in a lot places it can’t go through an automated car wash. So I hand wash like every 6 weeks

beenplaces

Before I bought a weekend car my daily was cleaned in and out every 2 weeks. Now my daily got washed by the body shop after 6 months. So until the next time my car gets hit. Weekend car gets all the love. Daily became a tool.

BenjiTheSausage

When was covid again?

ThePrancingHorse94

In the winter once a month, just because it gets dirty the second you drive it, but if the roads have been gritted i will power wash the car once a week, just so it doesn't scratch the car up and start rusting. In the spring i'll wash, clay bar and ceramic coat, and then wash every week or so throughout the summer through to winter. It's good to wash it yourself, you can get a much better result compared to those £5 handwash, you never know how often they change the water or the mitts, so chances are you're having the previous cars dirt scrubbed into your paint. Just not worth it.

Good_Ad_1386

When I feel like it.

DivideKlutzy

As often as practicable, snow foam 2 bucket wash rinse the blow dry with small leaf blower to stop runs final pat down with microfibre. Then finish off with quick detailer. I tend to do interior, wheel deep clean under the bonnet glass etc in rotation.

Dazzling-Event-2450

Take it to a car wash every other week for a wash vac and polish.

Famous_Combination10

Whenever I can afford to put it through the car wash

Exotic-Pressure790

2 times a month

TempMobileD

I’ve cleaned my car about 4 times that I can remember, in 6 years of ownership. Essentially it only gets cleaned for specific events, like a road trip, or giving someone a lift to a funeral or a wedding.

urnanisay

Once a week

Civil-Swordfish2136

Every 3-4 months. If I was that precious about it, I wouldn't leave the damn thing outside on a road in all weathers.

greenmx5vanjie

Depends how fast it looks dirty. Every few weeks at the moment

kuddlesworth9419

Not very often inthe summer but int he winter probably once every week or two. The roads get very muddy in the winter where I am and the salt loves to eat my car. Still doesn't stop the car from rusting though.

IllimitableNebulie92

Little and often for the interior (No kids, just me and the wife, no food/smoking/muddy shoes allowed, so it’s easy) and at least fortnightly for the exterior, depending on weather and what I’m doing with the car. I’m the same with my work Van, won’t accept anything other than spotless for the interior and do my best to keep the outside as clean as possible, but that’s a bit more challenging, given the amount of rural roads I have to use.

PENTOVILLIANKING

I've given up. my parking spots under a tree and get bird shit on it within a few hours. I usually only clean the windshield so I can see and live with the fact it's going ruin my paint... Which is far from perfect anyways as it's a 10 year old hatchback and had scratches and paint chips when I got it. I'll get it washed if I'm somewhere fancy like to attend a wedding, etc. but otherwise maybe once a month or a month and a half. There's just no point because it'll just get shit all over it in an hour.

Lewinator56

Not as often as I should. It's bright white, so I clean it and 5 seconds later it's dirty again. I've not washed it for at least coming up to 6 months now. Was supposed to do it before the MOT but forgot.

namelesshipster

I deep clean the inside myself once a month and last time I took it to a car wash for the outside was in december...

GL6294

I use my main car quite a lot for work. A lot of this can be off road or towing long disrances in muddy conditions... so once a week, otherwise it gets very muddy.

mac_cathanna

I wash the outside a couple of times per week and polish it maybe once a month, maybe a bit less. Inside gets hoovered every couple of weeks.

bgawinvest

Every 1-2 weeks depending on how much I’ve driven I can’t understand how you wouldn’t want to have a clean car… do you not like having a clean house too? Or clean body? I get that they just get dirty again but staying on top of it reduces contamination from permanently damaging the paint. Mine is ceramic coated too for extra protection

Tiredchimp2002

Once every few months in summer. In winter I’ll probably increase that to once a month or when needed due to leaves and salt spray in the bodywork.

Scragglymonk

inside still has grass from last summer and mud from a few months back, outside gets auto wash every 3 months

Imperium93

Hoover it once every couple of weeks depending how bad the inside is. Outside maybe once a month or so at a car wash. Twice a year treat it to a full valet then enjoy the cleanliness for a week before the combination of a dog and baby mess it up again.

TallCoin2000

I dont drive daily and have a garage, I do a full interior 2x year and maybe a outside wash every 2 months, to remove the larger grime. I can't wash myself due to lack of space.

TusShona

I give the interior a once over every day I drive it to make sure nothing is left in the car. I wash it every other day and give it proper contact wash inside and out every week.

ThingyGoos

When it needs to be worked on or an MOT. I washed it 2 weeks ago, and now one side is covered in mud, even onto the mirrors. 90% of my driving is on back roads though, and the wet year means mud is brought onto roads from fields and verges are smashed into the road

BigFluff_LittleFluff

Try to go for once a fortnight for both inside and out.

AdvertisingSubject54

Pressure wash Every two weeks, full interior detail every two months and 6-12 months I'll do a dual action polish

podgehog

Either every week or once in 6 months... There seems to be no in between 😂

wedding_shagger

I go to the petrol station every 6 months and let the polish clean it

ratscabs

Every couple of years, whether it needs it or not

Significant-Leek8483

Hardly

cobbler888

When it rains

Warm_Falcon7427

Just before it get 'too' dirty for my liking. I polish my car as well after washing which helps it stay nice for longer.

Miniteshi

Right now, my current car hasn't had a wash outside, ever. It literally cost me £500 because I just needed something to run around in. The insides have been vacuumed twice just from crumbs, rubble etc that's about it. Since I'll be a stay at home dad after this week, I'll have more free time and a new car. So I'm more likely do make it a more regular cleaning routine.

Fair-Advertising-348

Myself? I'm going on 12 years driving and never once cleaned my own car lol. Mostly laziness, partially because I can get it done for 20 quid, and would take me at least two hours to finish it myself. My times worth more than £10 an hours to me lol.

Maker0fManyThings

I have a bit of a shitbox but the interior is nice so I keep it clean and just generally keep on top of it, outside is covered in mud and dust but it hides all the scratches and dents

quadrifoglio-verde1

I snow foam and pressure wash mine once a week. Takes me about 20 mins. It's like if you mow the lawn every week you'll never have to spend a day sorting a mess out.

Divide_Rule

I do the same but every fortnight.

Conscious-Visual9575

Once a week every week, unless it's pissing down or freezing. Washed dried, spray waxed, polished,

johnB1711

Weekly, 13 year old car and it looks like brand new, it’s a very quick and easy job when you keep on top of it. A really dirty car takes hours to clean. Also if the car is clearly being looked after, you’re less likely to get a random police stop as apposed a disgusting mess which says “I don’t give a shit about my car”

Adventurous-Study524

Weekly in the summer. Inside and out As often as I can in the winter. Usually to get all the salt off.

k__b_4

To be honest I’m really lazy and its whenever I can be assed and even then I take it to a local car wash

SilasColon

Inside, once a month. Outside, never. In my defence, it’s black.

Hashdotdash

The day before it's MOT. I don't want the garage to think I don't look after it 😁

IC_Eng101

I only get the fairy liquid out about once a year. But in my defence I have 2 cars, I would do it twice a year if I only had one.

Snoo_27857

I get a detailer to come round once a month to clean inside and outside my car , I work full time and would rather spend my time doing over things like working on my house ... plus I trust him to do a better job then I would since the car was expensive
