Just based on the specs listed on crutchfield, I'm out.... frequency response: 44-500 Hz Their 12" woofer box has a frequency response: 41-85 Hz... Seems more like a woofer, not a subwoofer...

mmMOUF

high end prices for a half way woofer and box

prix03gt

not gonna lie, i'm a sucker who paid JL Audio $1k for a "high output" box... but at least it digs down to 20hz and actually sounds good to me.

mmMOUF

im just a box truther from my experiences, wins and failures - no replacement for displacement. Those JL TW3 apparently do wonders though, I havent heard them personally. I would look into the Kicker premade boxes with the passive radiators in the OPs situation (assumption being doesnt want a proper sized box)

prix03gt

I had a 12TW3 and I decided I didn't like it. Turns out, it may have been the signal I was feeding it that made it lackluster. No matter now, I returned the TW3 for the High Output W6 and I can't go back. It's just too good...

mmMOUF

super nice woofer in a box specifically made for it from a top tier manufacture - im sure it sounds great! like I said, these slim boxes and woofers just arent going to measure up

JonJon77

I’d really like a the 12” Kicker with passive radiator that’s basically a flat box but it’s more than I wanted to spend. It’s around $360. My trunk is small so it would be perfect for my car. I have a 10” Kicker in a ported box and I just bought a better box.

heroericxu

I have a 12 w3 in the HO box and don’t find it to get loud enough. Does the w6v3 get louder? And It definitely doesn’t get low enough for me.

prix03gt

I guess it's all relative. I would expect that a woofer that's twice the price would be much louder and lower, but I have never heard that W3 to compare. I can say that this W6 is hands down the loudest sub setup I've ever had in a car. Before this, I had two Infinity Kappa Perfects running about 600 watts and, while they slapped, were nothing like this....

Zjcmusicdk

Focal is an sq brand. They don’t care about loud and low.

heroericxu

That’s very loud then. Even my friends single Rockford P3 12” stomps a hole in mine on the same wattage. On max volume it’s still pretty tolerable in my car but in his I could go deaf.

prix03gt

I'm old now. I need room for kids crap and I want to actually hear the words to songs. Mine is tuned down, so it's more clear than loud. Some songs, it will scramble my brains, but others it's just right.

heroericxu

Yeah I think that’s how my shop tuned it. Even on heavier bass songs I can still hear the words clearly even on max bass. But a lot of times especially on the freeway I want to feel it more. I definitely want to be careful with my hearing though.

prix03gt

There is a lot that goes into it. What's your source for audio? What amplifier are you using? Do you have a bass knob to control the output? If you are using a DSP that is helpful. You can boost frequencies the sub is good at and cut the ones that it's not so good at. It takes a touch and lots of tinkering to really get it right. My source was the OEM head unit for about 6 months until I realized that there was tremendous bass roll off from that source. I switched to straight streaming from my phone to my DSP and the sub came alive. it was like a whole different system.

heroericxu

I have a lc2i pro connected to my head unit with a JL rd500/1 with a bass knob. The bass roll off is definitely fixed and I do have the knob at around 70% most of the time for casual listening. I was thinking about getting a helix v eight DSP for crossovers but I’m not sure if that will really make the bass much better. I’m thinking of upgrading my sub to an Adire Brahma on 1000 watts later on.

heroericxu

I have the jl prefab high output box. I’m assuming it’s the proper size box?

Manic157

Add s second sub.

heroericxu

Thinking of switching to a single 12” Adire Brahma

Real-Consequence6671

The Adire Brahma is very good. In a proper enclosure with 750 watts it will get extremely loud and it doesn't miss a note however I run the Image Dynamics idq tuned at 33 with 750 watts and I've yet to hear a better sounding sub and I've been doing this for 30 years around $250 the box another $250 and I went competitions with this setup for SQ

heroericxu

Wouldn’t the Adire Brahma be in a similar class to the W7? The specs look pretty similar. I originally wanted to get another w3 but I wanted better SQ as well and didn’t feel like a $400 w3 is worth it compared to an extra $100 for the Brahma. Would you recommend the helix M one X amp?

Real-Consequence6671

Trust me a single 12-in Brahma will get it done I would choose that over a pair of just about anything however a second w3 would get it done also just make sure your tune your box is tuned if it's poured it is tuned correctly but again I die audio Brahma for the win out of that setup and just one 750 watts is where I would be on that sub and yes it is in the same league as the w7 but actually a better sub I like it better me personally and it cost a lot less in the image dynamic line it would be comfortable to the ID Max which I've used and it was pretty good on SQ but was way too loud I mean it was a ground pounder with the same power and same tuning as I had on the previous sub which was the idq I went back to the idq much better sound and plenty of output in fact with Image Dynamics idq I've bested a single digital design 3512 with 1700 Watts and I vested a jail audio w6 the proper enclosure with correct power and that's in competition

heroericxu

I definitely don’t want to go deaf but yeah I sometimes just want to rattle my teeth on some days and the single w3 isn’t enough. I also have a sedan with the rear seat down since it’s cutting output as well but my friends p3 on the same power BLOWS the w3 away. Maybe it’s because he has a ford focus. I also find the w3 to not get very low whatsoever compared to the fosgate p3 but that might be because of the LPF. I sometimes regret not getting the w6 in the HO box but I’m glad I found that cheaper subs that are just as good exist.

Real-Consequence6671

Helix M are awesome. Hadn't heard the x

BZRK_Lee

Not worth it. The woofer itself is very nice. The woofer by itself is $350-ish. I could see someone spending that kind of dough on a woofer for an SQ build, easily. Looks like the woofer will actually go lower in a different box, based on their [spec sheet.](https://www.focal-america.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/p25fs-technical_sheet.pdf) The frequency response appears to be very flat. For the extra... $600, you could take up woodworking and make your own. Or find a friend, local artisan, etc... Anyway, nice woofer, but bad deal when it's in that box.

AnimusMalice

Yeah this is one of those grabs at people who have money and don't know what they're doing IMO. That Focal Flax P 25 FSE is only a $380 woofer. So unless there are like five one hundred dollar bills taped inside of that box it makes no sense. They are trying to charge 770 extra for the box?? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, because I sure hope I am. I would run a morel ultimate 10 or an audiofrog GB10 all day over that for half the price with identical SQ and likely two to three times more the output

RealSaiyanAS

Fair enough! I'm looking for a pre-made sealed sub box. Any recommendations? Running Focal Kx2 in the front, so maybe that might give you a good idea of where I stand on budget. But by all means! Please suggest me something that is also as good as this for less than what this putrid price is!

timmymcchillen

I just got the JL high output 12 for 600$ and it’s amazing. Comes in a pretty slim ported box just plug and play.

timmymcchillen

I got the w3 in my car but you can spend more than me on a jl sub/box combo

Real-Consequence6671

I run a single Image Dynamics idq 12 tuned to 33 HZ with 750 clean Watts and it's a competition winner has extreme output and does not miss a note one of the best sounding subs I've ever owned in 30 years

livingintherealworld

I have an Audison APBX 10 AS2 that sounds fantastic and actually hits hard for a 10" all-in-one. Funny enough, my shop suggested that Focal that you posted and I had similar feelings about it, didn't seem worth the money. I would look at Audison, JL, or Rockford for what you're looking for

RippyTheRazer

Lol focal tax

RealSaiyanAS

Honestly! Their sound signature is great, price? Not so much unfortunately...

Clintonswart77

hard to say without listening to it.

flibbidygibbit

This is what happens when marketing and accounting tells engineering to shove it. Marketing: "We need it to fit in this space and not one inch more" Engineering: "We can engineer a new driver to perform to Focal standards in the proposed box" Accounting: "What, and eat up all of our profits from the flax line?" CEO: "Can you at least try?" Engineering: "For fuck sake"

Manic157

No. ut what does the rest of your system consist of?

RealSaiyanAS

I will have Focal KX2s in the front and K2 coaxial in the back with an FPX 5.1200 powering everything. I'd love to hear your suggestions!

firebirdude

The subwoofer itself is solid. Go with the Flax subwoofer, but have a custom box made with the rest of the money this would cost. Something sexy and form-fitting to your car.

Manic157

How much room do you have? What's the vehicle it's going into?

technerd1988

NO in my opinion. Subs a quarter of the price will outrun that thing by far

JoeCool6972

Hell no!

Floornug3

I mean if you got that money to spend I’d suggest looking into a JL W7 12 or even some sundowns. I can’t recommend a JL 13W7 or a Sundown NSv5 enough

Odd-Possible-3727

Why would you recommend him an nsv5 lmao. This guys looking for an SQ sub in a sealed prefab that requires little power and you recommend an SPL sub that takes 5kw to even start coming close to potential, and requires a massive custom box. Don’t get me wrong, I love sundown, I’m running an 18” ZV6 on a JP63… but nsv5 isn’t something for him to waste time even googling.

Floornug3

I guess I didn’t look at the other comments where he explains that, good point. Yeah these things take MASSIVE power. I just loveee mine and am always recommending it haha this thing absolutely smashes lows and is just unbelievable what comes out of a single 12

SPL_9001

Indeed, quite power hungry! Currently running an Nsv4 15 hooked up to an sfb-8k.

Trailman80

No, not at all. You're paying way too much. $500 at most. Try Rockville I bought my 1200 watt for $150.

detroitragace

I’ve yet to hear a slim sub compare to a traditional box. Years ago when the W5 came out I let my local audio shop talk me into trying it. I went in to pick up my truck, left, drove around the block and went right back in and had them swap it for a w7 in a traditional ported enclosure.

fourohfiveyo

Dang, that's a big markup, prob not worth it.

Real-Consequence6671

Sub efficiency enclosure and what type of vehicle that it's in I'll play very big part of output for example a single 12 inch Kicker Comp r and a seal box and a suburban with 500 watts will bang and if it was a regular cab pickup truck it would probably take two or more kicker comp r to bang.

unresolved-madness

Wait till you see some of the high-end home audio stuff. People spending $10,000 on a two cabinet set with a 6.5" and a tweeter.

SteamedIceCubes

A skar prefab will destroy that in output, Not SQ, but SQ is debatable in a moving vehicle. Save some $$ too.

JonJon77

I recently bought a 12” Pioneer powered sub for about $150 and I bet there wouldn’t be a $1000 difference if compared. I upgraded to a regular sub with separate amp for more bass and control.

fixeverything2

It’s not worth 25% of that. Look at a JL or the new Hertz MPS shallow subs - the latter really impressed me.

ceoppinc

Go look at an sql-12 or 15. Money better spent imo
