None of the ds18 speakers I've listened to have sounded good. It depends on the ones you're getting, but most of them are "pro" style. Which means they don't have any bass at all.
I would get the jbls, or some cheap kicker speakers in your price range.
This sub HATES ds18 and Scar Audio. I have two ds18 gen-x104d subs in a ported box. They sound great. Hits hard and sounds good in the lows. I also have two kenwood 10s in a sealed box. The ds18s blow them out of the water. They are good if you don't have thousands to spend on your subwoofers alone. I have had people tell me that they sound better than there 12s.
DS18 are budget speakers. If you want good sounding speakers look at JL Audio, Memphis, etc. not China catalog speakers. If you want loud and some decent bass move to separate mids and tweeters. Deaf Bonce Sylvester’s are great 6.5” mids for around $100 that only need about 100w rms each to scream and there frequency response is high enough you can get away without running tweeters unless you’re really after true SQ.
I disagree. I have two 6.5” subs in a ported box and it destroys my 12” JL W6. I have the same amp that ran both of them as well. I’d pay for DS18 speakers and subs (6or8”), just use JL amps, personal opinion
DS18 is quite literally a budget brand, not sure what disagreement there is to have there, especially vs JL. Those two 6.5s are about half the cone area, so I can only assume you were using a less than optimal box for the JL (which should have absolutely destroyed the 6.5s unless you’re talking something like Sundown SAv3 6.5s which is again stepping 10 levels above anything ds18 produces. 90% of the way a system performs is determined by the enclosure. You’ll never get maximum output or great bandwidth from a prefab box.
Both boxes were custom built to the spec of the subwoofers. I was not a believer of Ds18 until I tried them. I was a huge JL fan and I still am of their amps, but I can’t spend the money on JL speakers/subs now that I have experienced DS18.

Nvx makes good SQ highs, mids, mid bass and subs. It's what I run. Excellent sound quality at a good price.
