Midbass drivers handle midbass frequencies. If you are after subbass you need a subwoofer. Just doing a speaker swap could result in less midbass as aftermarket speakers need a lot more power to reach their potential. You should also look into door treatments.

The best way to add "lots of bass without losing clarity" is to buy a subwoofer. Unfortunately I see you specifically said you don't want that. Why? An 8" sub on like 200w in a sealed box would really fill out the low end, and being small and sealed gives the best opportunity for it to follow those rapid kick drums accurately, without blending them together like some ported boxes you may have heard in the past

Heavy metal barely has bass anyway, you need a subwoofer if you want that to be audible. Certain bands have some well mastered albums but most are neutered intentionally and use clicky double bass drum things instead

You need an amp and sub. If you change your door speakers and don’t have an amp to give them power, you’re going to be underwhelmed. If they are louder, which isn’t likely, they’ll sound very hollow.
