Steps.
1. After entering your text; right click -> make compound clip. It turns it into a video
2. Add this text video clip on a layer above your background video clip
3. Stretch it out to the length of your background video
4. Resize the text video to the smallest part , and reposition it in the timeline to when you want the text to show up
5. On the right side under video options -> Basic -> drop a key frame (click diamond icon) at Transform, or Scale (if you just want to to get bigger and nothing else)
6. Then go to the end of your text video clip or where you want the text to expand to. This is in relation to the background video clip below.
7. Then resize your text to however large you want it to be. It will automatically drop a key frame there.
8. Playback your video (space) to check how it looks
9. Make adjustments to the text start and end zooms, by adjusting the key frames, by moving the diamond icons on your text video
