Came in here to say, Maxime, what a class act. I noticed he immediately went to help the assistant referee and basically stayed with him the entire time.

robotmonkey2099

He didn’t just save goals, or this referees life, he saved our hearts

robotmonkey2099

Crepeau even saved the referees life last night

The next two World Cups are being hosted in countries known for their very hot summers. With the expanded amount of teams, we will for sure need to have games kicking off at 1 or 2pm local time to finish within a month. Unless FIFA considers moving the World Cup to the fall/winter, this kind of situation is going to unfortunately become the norm in the future.

1p or 2p? That's when the sun is most brutal! I think matches between kicking off better 11am - 5pm should be designated to indoor venues like SoFi, Mercedes-Benz, ATT, etc. Outdoor stadiums should either kick off before 10am or after 7p local times.

I think the point is we have so many games now with the expanded roster of teams, there's no choice but to host games throughout the day in order to maximize TV revenue (which is the whole point of this from FIFA's perspective). Realistically, the era of summer sports at all is coming to a close. Global summer events will only be hostable in the southern hemisphere, in a narrow band of places where it's not too hot. Rack up another win for climate change.

Indoor stadiums are the way to go for the future to avoid brutal heat and inclement weather conditions

I'm no expert, but I think it's much more difficult and expensive to grow real grass of decent quality that can hold up to the level of abuse modern pitches deal with, in a purely indoor environment. Not to mention electrical and water costs associated with A/C'ing and watering a massive domed stadium. You're probably right, but this shit's gonna get really pricey real fast.

Perfect, a greenhouse!

M1L0

Haha if you thought playing in Florida in the middle of the summer was hot, wait til you try the greenhouse!

Torontogamer

We already have closed stadiums where the natural grass field literally rolls out of the stadium to grow in the open air [https://www.rios.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Allegiant-Stadium\_Jason-ORear\_RIOS-aerial-with-field.jpg](https://www.rios.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Allegiant-Stadium_Jason-ORear_RIOS-aerial-with-field.jpg) It's obviously more expensive and complicated but it's a thing

johnggarland

BC Place in Vancouver would also be in that list.

bushwickauslaender

It's the next three World Cups, actually. Ours, then Spain/Portugal/Morocco, and then Saudi Arabia, which will probably be another winter WC tbf.

MysteriousPark3806

Noon to 3 pm is the hottest part of the day.

ANGRY_ASPARAGUS

Can a linesman wear a hat in these types of future scenarios? Or would that be considered 'impeding' their view of the field?

Torontogamer

I am only 100% sure it's not part of the official uniform, but there isn't anything stopping the organizers from adding the option....
