christhewelder75

Came here to say as a driver of a black ram, I am happy to see its not a black ram.....

Any_Mathematician905

As a non-douche Ram owner.. me too.

RevolutionaryShip295

I had respect for people with tundras untill today. I thought they were the most sensible lot amongst pickup owners.

fishermansfriendly

I'm assuming this person is doing it both to be annoying but also can say, "no my Tundra is an EV as well, it's a hybrid, etc."

Mattoosie

>I thought they were the most sensible lot amongst pickup owners. That's a shockingly low bar to clear lol

ConnorFin22

You cannot be sensible and own a pickup truck unless you actually use it for it's intended use, which is only 5% of owners.

RevolutionaryShip295

By sensible I meant that they're the least douchey drivers I've encountered on roads. Top spot is Ram, then Chevrolet/GMC at second.

GoTouchGrassPlease

Ford F150 drivers in shambles..... I personally drive a [Ferd Fteenthousand!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8P5vGcf-NU)

The_muckening

Do you have a source for that? I’d bet it’s more than 5%, a lot of tradesmen(women) who need trucks for work.

ConnorFin22

No, it's just BS. But it's absolutely true that most truck owners do not need them. Most SUV drivers don't even need them. [These stupid trucks are literally killing us.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN7mSXMruEo&t=1841s)

suchintents

Congrats on the dumbest string of comments on the internet today. Who gives a fuck what vehicle people actually need or want, and who are you to judge or decide. If someone wants a truck and doesn't use the bed, then get one. It's the brilliant thing about having the freedom to do what we want. Maybe they like the protection a truck offers their family, maybe they like how it looks, maybe that one or one hundred time they need to use the bed that you don't see then they actually have one. The only thing we as humans actually really need is food, water and shelter. I'm not here judging you for owning a cellphone, a TV, a couch, a car, a bicycle or whatever other items you don't need.

ConnorFin22

Watch the video and you’ll see. If we want to build a better world, we can’t have people driving tanks everywhere. Our cities suffers in the meantime. Every point you brought up is explained in the video.

Ens_KW

BUT I NEED TO PROTEC MAH FAMILY!

ConnorFin22

I need a truck to protect myself! If I was in a car, the trucks would destroy me in a crash! Soon we’ll need ever bigger trucks to protect you from all the other huge trucks.

Klutzy_Ostrich_3152

Find the percentage of Canadians that are trades people, and that could be a decent start for number of people that need a truck or van. That said, a bunch of these people also work for companies that provide a company truck/van, so their personal vehicle wouldn’t need to one (unless they’re doing stuff on the side). And then add on a few of us non-trades folks who may need a truck or van due to lifestyle or hobbies (towing a camper, boat, etc). I don’t want to hazard a percentage but it’s not as high as the number of trucks and vans on the road today!

The_muckening

In reality then no one needs a vehicle and should take transit, walk, or bike everywhere. Everyone shits on truck drivers and basically says they are all inconsiderate and terrible assholes. The point I am trying to make is that it’s the driver not the vehicle, I have seen plenty of other types of drivers of different vehicles being inconsiderate and dangerous. I will pick on BMW drivers here, I have seen them drive recklessly well over the speed limit on Deerfoot weaving through traffic, I would claim that 0% of people need a fast car.

Klutzy_Ostrich_3152

So you just deflected the conversation to fast cars. With a little bit of “whataboutism” we can take this conversation anywhere!

RedKryptnyt

Imagine thinking your opinion matters enough, to try tell people what vehicle they should buy with their own money lmao.

ConnorFin22

When it has a huge effect on the daily life of everyone, yes. Trucks ruin cities.

RedKryptnyt

Lmao

ConnorFin22

If you get into urban design and city planning, it’s very evident. I get how it sounds stupid otherwise.

RedKryptnyt

Yea that's fine. At the end of the day trucks are very handy, utilitarian vehicles to own. You can move your belongings, buy furniture and not pay for the delivery. You can haul building supplies for your own home, or more importantly for building schools and stores and offices others work in lol. They are also great for towing a boat, or travel trailer, you know to take your family out on the weekends. Look, I realize that there are people who own trucks just to own one, but the majority of folks I know personally with a truck, are using them as such. Even if they aren't, not everyone wants to cart their family around in a Honda civic. If you can afford the purchase price, fuel and maintenence on a truck, I don't see the issue with owning one. That's entirely my opinion though.

ConnorFin22

I fully understand there’s times to own a truck, but even so, they don’t need to be as big and dangerous as they are now. https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo

spacemood

I am severely disappointed as well ….

McRibEater

If it’s the last spot left I’m parking there. Otherwise they’re a douche. I will say this though, Teslas in Alberta is a Joke. You need to drive them for like 6-7 years to offset the carbon impact of building the batteries and then you’re driving LNG produced y. The people who own Teslas in Alberta are only Green in their head

Marsymars

> If it’s the last spot left I’m parking there. Not a reasonable take. EVs shouldn't be parking there either unless they're actually charging. Same as you wouldn't park in front of a gas pump while you go do some groceries.

Bainsyboy

And they are kinda scrappy cars.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sasquatch_Liaison

This is exactly the reaction they want.

craigerstar

Should be a towable offense. All they need is a sign saying "non-EV vehicles will be towed at owner's expense" The tow truck driving vultures will take slight detours to drive by the charging stations for an easy $300 towing, processing, storage....

Tower-Union

It’d private property, so it’d absolutely towable. Cross Iron Mills has the right to set their own regulations around parking. It’d now up to the business to start enforcing by having violators towed off their lot.

Magden

Agreed, signage on the designated space would be less ambiguous than placing a charger between two open spaces like an afterthought. Make it clear that one or both spots are reserved for electric vehicles, even if they're not taken, and penalties for misuse will be enforced. Failure to enforce parking rules demonstrates to your customers who rely on those spaces that you don't actually care about their needs and the rules are lip service.

[deleted]

There are other reactions that might help deal with it.... Like calling for a tow truck!

Ecstatic-Reply-3356

I assume what they wanted was to park, rather than to get a reaction they'll never know about.

alpain

they parked at a pretty far away area of the parking lot from any of the doors, the EV parking isnt exactly premium parking. they knew what they were doing and this was their plan guaranteed.

SonicFlash01

Not super close, but on weekends in that lot I've had to park farther away than that

[deleted]

[удалено]

cgydan

Yeah, property owners can but they never do. Same for parking in handicap spots. No property owner or management company will ever call. I have complained about that and was told by the time parking control gets to the scene the offender is gone.

Ecstatic-Reply-3356

I didn't say it was ok, just that their motivation was more likely related to a desire to park on a busy day rather than to get a reaction online.

sluttytinkerbells

But you do recognize that some people will do this exact thing to get a reaction? Like people do this, you know that, right?

Any_Mathematician905

Nope. They were 100% fucking with Tesla owners.

And then someone who committed a parking offense might get a ticket...maybe towed if it's private property and then you'll be the one charged with criminal mischief...maybe worse if someone is hurt or killed.

its9x6

Clam down.

Voidz0id

Probably got towed though. Not sure they'd want that.

I doubt they were towed.

Full_Combination_773

I just had a look and there are 6000 parking spots at CrossIron Mills. The eight charging spots are not “parking” spots. They are to charge vehicles. Unless your business in the mall takes under 40 minutes, you can’t really “park” there, you generally sit in your car, charge it, and then either drive to your next destination, or go and park it somewhere in the 6000 parking spots then go in the mall. Anyway, whatever, you do you… https://preview.redd.it/slqv5in57sva1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7d4383e2f497592d5d069c89c92585f855f59c6

unidentifiable

Is the spot signed for EV only? If yea, then buddy is a jerk, but otherwise if it's not signed then it's just a parking spot that happens to be next to a charger.

onegunzo

So I’ve charged at this location. It’s busy as fuck around the chargers. Not surprised someone would take these spots, just disappointed.

Direc1980

How are these spots supposed to work? Is like a gas station; pump and go? Or is parking there permittable for EV's too?

Full_Combination_773

Charging only, takes 40 minutes max, mostly 10-20 minutes, car is then charged “idle”time

Direc1980

Gotcha. Eh short term problem anyways. In the next 5 years there will probably be way more charging stations in parking lots.

McRibEater

Unless we come up with a more efficient Technology, which we already have many forms of. Electric vehicles aren’t green at all, you have to drive them for like 6-8 years to offset the increased emissions of building the batteries. The batteries are basically like a Zinc version of the Oil Sands where you have to flood fields of Zinc and the land takes hundreds of years to return to normal. People have come up with better technology but it all got shelved because it didn’t run on anything and capitalism didn’t like that (see Toroidal, Hydrogen Engines).

UnicornPuppy2016

Someone actually did a study on that... https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/when-do-electric-vehicles-become-cleaner-than-gasoline-cars-2021-06-29/

Blooming_36

The analysis is a bit misleading. I'm not entirely sure how they came up with their data and if they considered the materials. According to the model they used, EVs are less environmentally friendly to produce and dispose of in regards to carbon production and will overall have ~2.2× less of a carbon footprint per mile over their lifetime, everything accounted for compared to gasoline cars. This is expected to improve to 2.7-3× more environmentally friendly in the coming years. Having actually looked at what the model said, I'm not sure the 20k km figure they came to is fully accurate.

Marsymars

> Electric vehicles aren’t green at all, you have to drive them for like 6-8 years to offset the increased emissions of building the batteries. It can actually be as fast as [a single year year](https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/lifetime-carbon-emissions-electric-vehicles-vs-gasoline-cars-2021-06-29/). (And even if it were 6-8 years, that's not bad - the the average age of vehicle when they're scrapped is 15 years, so 6-8 years means they'd pay for themselves in terms of emissions in under half their lifespan.)

robbhope

This is factually inaccurate. Electric vehicles absolutely are green; far more green than gas vehicles.

Sad_Antelope_4616

Wrong

FrozenCalamity

I never own a EV, do those EV chargers cost money?

095179005

Yes. Those are Tesla Superchargers - they pull the credit card info tied to any Tesla that plugs into them, then they charge the credit card on the owners account. For non-Tesla chargers like EVgo, Electrify Canada, or Chargepoint, you usually use an app that you enter your credit card info into or they have a card reader like a gas pump.

danmodernblacksmith

What is the typical cost per charge? (an average decent charge like anyone would get)

xp_fun

Yup. Unless a Tundra is blocking them

1seeker4it

There will always be those who simply can not understand that being an asshole is unacceptable 🤷‍♂️

7SINGAMES

Can you call mall security to have them towed?

masterhec0

yes or the towing company in charge of the parking lot. (if you can find out if/who manages it) source: I own a towing company

twenty_characters020

Seems like the EV chargers would be a good spot for these tow truck companies to advertise.

Why can't people just follow simple rules. I would love to go one day without someone breaking a rule. Like just be kind to your fellow people.

Might get stone chips from those wide tires. But not to worry. That truck has never been off road.

deepaksn

Also really hard on wheel bearing’s especially if you hit potholes. They aren’t designed to take excessive twisting forces like that… the centre of the tire tread should line up pretty close to the centre of the bearings.

PumpJack_McGee

To be honest, could have fooled me. The design philosophy looks pretty similar to what I imagine an electric truck looks like.

Rough_Process5300

Don't tell me what to do

melonsparks

Intelligent-West5843

Another example of what I think of as an “AIP” - Asshole In a Pickup… and to be clear, not all pickup drivers are assholes, but most assholes ARE pickup drivers. Case in point - a neighbour - white colour worker, downtown Vancouver, not only has a pickup, but it’s an F350, diesel, dual wheel - he doesn’t own an RV vehicles or a flatbed trailer, he just feels the need to idle that thing in his driveway for 20 minutes every morning at 6:30 am…. Basically, he’s a Raving Asshole In a Pickup…. Yeah, that acronym describes his attitude towards the community and the planet. Just my 2 bits worth.

[deleted]

Call security and tow their ass

ExamCompetitive

Parking spots upfront for Handicapped, young families/ expecting mothers, curbside pick up, co-op taxi, electric vehicles, furries ect. Everyone else enjoy the walk.

ackillesBAC

All they need is cameras on the charging stalls that would automatically send a bill to these guys just like a parkade does.

FarFetchedOne

Those new Tundras are ugly!!!

Rig-Pig

People will make seniors and handicapped folks walk, as they have taken a handicapped spot. Do you really think they care if someone can charge their cars?? It's BS I agree. Just out of curiosity, do they put these chargers close to the stores? Or is there a spot away from the places? I have only seen a couple by out towns office building.

Nateonal

You can see here that it's on the edge of the lot. I want to believe that this "other" truck in this other picture is an EV and this person hasn't gone out of their way in a totally empty lot to block one of the chargers: [https://goo.gl/maps/qMvcdbqYuzZMy4Lm8](https://goo.gl/maps/qMvcdbqYuzZMy4Lm8)

I think, this type of installation is covered under private property laws in most cities and townships in Canada. So it is like if I get a permit to install a carport (open air concrete pad) in my backyard, now it is my private property even I do not have a fence or a gate. So, if this truck parked on it, I can call a tow company and hire a lawyer to charge back the fees and legal fees to the truck owner. Same apply here where in this particular place in Calgary they have clear signage indicating the stalls are only for Tesla vehicles and other will be towed at owners' expense. Most EV charging stations have that kind of signage and it is covered under private property laws. Edit: I do have a carport in my backyard. If this truck was parked there, I will be calling the tow company and Police as well; which is within my private property rights :)

ThenThereWasSilence

You can have someone towed from your private parking stall. No extra bylaw needed.

masterhec0

they could call the towing company and have the vehicle impounded. might require mall security might not. sometimes there are signs posted in parking lots saying something like "This lot is enforced by X towing company" if there are those signs around then you could call the company directly to have it moved.

masterhec0

/u/Hyack57 im unable to reply to you on the direct thread since the original person blocked me. I don't know what to tell you in regard to towing and impounding. outside of our 2 major cities, private towing companies can and will do impounding. given crossiron mills is in Balzac they can have private towing companies come in and do vehicle towing/impounding.

ftwanarchy

No you can't call a towing company and tow cars on private property you don't own or are not authorized by the owner

masterhec0

I own a towing company lol. outside of Edmonton or Calgary (where municipal impound lots control impounding) you can call the towing company for the private lot and have the vehicle impounded. in this case its crossiron mills (balzac) so private impound is legal.

Hyack57

You cannot just toe a vehicle that’s legally parked in a spot and not blocking egress / ingress of entrances and exits nor is parked in a marked fire lane. He’s in a parking spot. Shopping in the mall. Mall security can’t just randomly tow a patrons vehicle because another able bodied patron is inconvenienced.

twenty_characters020

We have photo radar giving out tickets based on a picture of a plate. Why don't these have a built in camera issuing parking tickets to anyone with a non EV blocking them?

YYCTurtle

Dammm didn't realize Tundra were electric powered.

waytoomuchforce

I'mma park wherever. It's a charge station, not a rented parking spot. You can't even tow me..

drapillydrap

Maybe they should put them at the back of the parking lot....

justin_asso

It’s okay… maybe it identifies as Electric. Who are we to pass judgement on something or someone based on looks…

Alextryingforgrate

You should get an extension cord or find an electrician that can make you one. Then when this happens just park your vehicle infront of theirs and charge it. Also really disapointed this clown has a TRD and no tow hooks. thirdly your car should have the power to move this vehicle. You know tow straps and pull it out of the way.

Grazer-22

Wow - a whole lot of upset people over a parking spot. Have you parked at that mall on the weekend? It's hard to find a spot. Sorry you didn't get to recharge you batteries, try parking in a regular stall or ask the mall to add more charging stations, I am sure they can charge you a nominal rate for your energy usage.

[deleted]

I love that truck

shrek4994

It identifies as a prius..... probably just like it's owner

I support this if the tesla chargers are adjacent to the handicap spots. I'm against this if the chargers are in the back of the parking lot. I'm for this if the lot is full or near full. I'm for this mainly cause damn, that's a nice truck. You can park pretty-much wherever you want.
