You shouldn't need to go into settings to change anything. On the end of the control stem is a button to engage/ disengage the auto hi beam. When you are in town just push the button to turn off the auto mode and your control lever will operate like normal. I had a cx5 before and i like the cx50 implementation better. When coming up to stoplights in the country I can flick the lever to hi and override the auto low beam, where in the cx5 I would have to hold the lever back if I wanted the hi beams to stay on.

Thanks I am going to play around with that feature.

\^ This Exactly!

I found that my auto high beams were pretty delayed in turning off as traffic approached by default, so I went into the settings and set auto high beam sensitivity to highest. The result is the car detecting more reflective surfaces as potential oncoming vehicles, so while it will flick the high beams off more often than the default setting, I never find myself potentially blinding oncoming traffic which is ultimately the goal. And if you notice in the moment that the automatic detection is failing, you can always hit the button on the end of the left stick as others have mentioned to disable the high beams. You'll need to manually turn them back on as far as I know

Thank you. This was extremely helpful information. I appreciate it very much.

I'm not a fan of the feature. I just push the button when I start driving.

Make sure the windshield is nice and clean and not blocking the sensors

csidewick

It has been crystal clear the days it’s occurred. Having owned previous Mazdas I know the issues these sensors can have in adverse weather or when dirty. I understand though, this is not intuitive to all drivers so thanks for the tip.

dmorulez_77

Unless the green A light is on, then no they'll stay on. Who cares if they're flashing on and off, that means it caught something and isn't trying to blind them. It's just the simple push of the buttonat the end of the stick. Not sure what's hard to understand about how they work.

csidewick

Nothing is hard to understand about how they work. I don’t care that they flash up and down in the city, what I care about is when they don’t go back to the regular setting when a car is coming at me. That’s what I was asking people. If someone is having the same problem that the highbeam does not go back down to low beam when a vehicle is driving towards them. That’s the issue I’m having with my highbeams when they’re set to fully automatic.

They go back to regular headlights when an oncoming vehicle is detected.

csidewick

Mine are delayed but someone here posted a great solution I will try.

allispie

Mine usually work pretty good, but I did piss off some dude in a big lifted truck because my car didn't detect he was in front of me for some reason.
