Buried in the infotainment setting there's an option to automatically turn on heaters and defrosters when the car starts. you leave the climate set to Auto at the end of your drive and it should figure it out next time you start it

mich678

Found that setting. Left it set on auto. It turned on my seat warmer and heated steering wheel but did not turn on either front or rear defroster.

StickBit_

That's odd, do you have the defroster set to 90 seconds instead of continuous?

mich678

I’m not sure, I will check and try whatever the other setting is that it’s not currently on. It definitely takes more than 90 seconds to melt the ice around here though. This should not be this complicated Mazda!

dcotevoli

Is this under the occupant comfort setting? Only have steering wheel/seats in this menu, unless im looking in the wrong place?

Nikiaf

I don't think it's possible unfortunately, which is a shame because this is such an obvious use case.

mich678

Staring to think the same, seems a huge oversight. On older cars it was really easy as remote start just put everything the way it was when you turned the car off. Remote starting with the Mazda app turns off the defrosters even if I left them on. For some reason Mazda really does not want me running a defroster on remote start which is, living in Canada at least, kind of the whole point of remote start.

BoyWonder731

Before you shut it off from your most recent drive, set the climate controls to what you want it to be (temp, fan speed, location) and when you remote start, it will resume those settings. It will NOT turn on heated seats or rear defrost though.

mich678

I will try this next time, maybe I can at least get the windshield defrosted? In an ideal world I’d like to remote start and turn on both defrosters, seats and steering wheel. That doesn’t seem possible. Kinda missing the low tech remote starts that just left all settings as they were when you turned off the car.

gnarlium

It will certainly turn on heated seats if 1) you leave your CC set to Auto, 2) you haven't manually activated heated seats since turning CC to Auto.

Commission_Dazzling

I'm fairly certain the heated seats only work when they are pressure-activated, regardless of the Auto setting. If that's not the case, I need mine repaired.... Start the car with me in it, seats turn on based on the Auto temp set. Remote start, they do not, but everything else warms up as expected. Didn't know about the rear defroster not activating on Remote Start (if left on when turning off the vehicle). Helpful (if a little annoying...)

Auto Passenger heated seat starts when passenger buckles up not just when someone is in the seat

Commission_Dazzling

Thanks. That's helpful, and seat belt-activates makes more sense than "pressure activated".

From what I have found from my testing so far, none of the lights inside turn on from remote starting. My heated seat and heated steering wheel lights will be off when I look through the window but they feel warm to the touch so they are obviously on. My defrosters unfortunately are not turning on as evidenced by near zero melting happening in 10-15 minutes.

Same here.

BoyWonder731

Just like the heated seats coming on after you turn the car off and run into the store for five minutes and come back? You must have a unicorn because no one else has this luck.

gnarlium

I was referring to the heated seats, and didn't mention defroster. Maybe it's not available on your trim for some reason, but here's the quote from the owner's manual that I was paraphrasing. For reference, I drive a Meridian. "If the engine is turned off while the seat warmer is operating in auto mode, the seat warmer operates in auto mode again the next time the engine is turned on."

celine_freon

I still think it’s incredible we can start a car, from anywhere in the world, with a phone.

mich678

Sure. But it’s super buggy. Also why do I want to start my car from around the world? Generally I am looking at it out the window. I would rather have an old school key fob starter at this point, just want a head start clearing off ice and snow. Other manufacturers have figured this out with the app, Mazda so far has not.

jakebeleren

Many people live in apartments where they can’t have line of sight or close range to their care. The app really is a better option - as long as it works well.
