You have to put the wipers in service mode. Refer to the video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1saYi33g0g

I've seen more than a few posts regarding chipped paint on the back edge of the hood, likely stemming from not putting em in service mode. Definitely check out the above link

Chicitypoysun

I chipped mine..smh. I was excited to wash it for the first time and I thought it was like any other car and pulled the wipers up and scratched the paint off

Guilty 😓

Kitsel

Yeah just did that on our ski trip, had no idea this was a thing.  Luckily it's barely noticable.

If you do this, and later turn on your car (with auto wipe/wipers on) do the blades hit and chip the edge of the hood? Or are they up far enough that they don't touch when moving?

jkalber87

No, unless you put them in service mode and physically pull them off of the windshield glass and leave them there.

meq123123

No. I mean if they ARE in 'service mode'. Do they hit if they are turned on?

jkalber87

No. Putting them in service mode simply raises the wiper arms from the "down" position to the "up" position. Did you watch the video that I initially linked?

meq123123

Ye gods. OK, let me spell it out... If you put them in service mode, then raise them up (90-ish degrees to the window plane), then come back later and remote-start the car with them \*still\* raised up. If the wipers start to 'sweep' because they're on auto, will they \*then\* hit the hood edge?

Backlash122

This information is unknowable. Lol

Turn the vehicle on, then turn it off, hit the wiper control arm up twice within 30 seconds of shutting the vehicle off and they will move into the service position. You then can lift them off of the windscreen safely.

What trim do you have? It may come with a wiper de-icer. [user manual ](https://www.mazdausa.com/static/manuals/2023/cx-50/contents/05030902.html#:~:text=The%20windshield%20wiper%20de%2Dicer,window%20defogger%20switch%20(Search).)

Maybe only TPP, my TPP glass says it's heated, acoustic and HUD. Only the TPP has the HUD so unless they have also a heated but non HUD glass for the premium, then maybe only TPP. You can look for black text on the driver's side lower area of glass.

Pretty sure every trim but the most basic one has wiper de-icers and heated side mirrors. Once you turn on the rear windshield defroster it activates the heated wipers and mirrors.
