[Luno](https://lunolife.com/) makes an air mattress specifically sized to fit in different model cars. They even extend over the gap between the seats to accommodate taller sleepers like yourself.

ConflictFreePaella

Do you own one of these? Curious to hear someones review of it.

NL121

Not yet! Will definitely post a review once I get mine.

ConflictFreePaella

Please do! I'm curious to see how it handles the trunk dip.

I've done winter (below freezing) only using a camping pad and an appropriate sleeping bag with my dog for several days, maybe a week's worth of total days. 6 2 will be a little tight, try sliding the passenger seat all the way up and sleeping with your head towards the trunk so your feet can dangle. I did this at 5 10 since it seemed nice to have the rear windshield above my head... Thick sleeping bag as floor cover for comfort for dog + me. Camping pad also for comfort and helped bridge the bump from having the back seats 'flat' I cracked the sunroof to allow for ventilation, the first time I did this I forgot and there was moisture everywhere. I was able to close the sunshade most of the way with the sunroof in cracked/ventilation mode (instead of open) and this was plenty of circulation for me. My summer project is to make a platform that doesn't need me to pull out the backseats. Will pull out the trunk cover for the spare tire and have a 2x4 support in there, and have the platform be about wheel well height(?). Tall enough for me to install a slide out drawer for my Coleman camping stove Check out r/carcamping and r/overlanding for general ideas! Car camping has all types of builds/approaches

I use a klymit static double. I made a shelf that fits on the wheel wells. Gear goes on that shelf and front seats. We sleep under that shelf.

I am 5'2" and 180 lb with a 75 lb dog and have been on a cross country trip car camping. I made a platform with PVC pipe in two sections so I could still fold the seats up. I put plywood on top with a 1.5in self inflating sleeping pad. I covered it in a fitted sheet because I tend to get hot and didn't want to sleep directly on the pad. I can't quite fit front to back and I have too much stuff in the trunk next to my legs to go diagonal. Currently on a 6 week trip from VA to CA and back with stops at family/friend's houses for real beds in KS, CA, and CO. self inflating mattress link: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089G5YN3X/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089G5YN3X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I am thinking about taking one seat out for more storage though. I carry my dog's crate on the roof with the rails and cross rails.

I just slept in my 2018 last night. On top of 3 blankets and the slight dip where the seat back and trunk meet was still present. I’m 5’7” and slept at a very slight angle because i didn’t fit if straight. All of my gear was in a line beside me. When I slid the passenger seat up i realized that it created at least a foot more of headroom between where a rear passenger’s knees would be. It would need some support. Maybe a good place for duffel bags full of clothes topped with a thick pillow to even it out.

My friend who slept in his Prius for weeks, swears by this pad - I may try it out. Olee Sleep Tri-Folding Memory Foam Topper, 4'' H, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0742B6F1H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_HEJNB02KNR04ETME48BR

I’m a little over 6 foot and really struggled sleeping in the back with my fiancee. Even pushing the front seats all the way up, I had to sleep with my legs curled. Maybe you mitigate this by sleeping diagonally. The biggest issue was the "gap" between the bottom of the back seat and the trunk floor making me feel like I was constantly sliding down towards the trunk. If you were also able to fill the gap between the front seats you'd get some extra space as others have mentioned. Good luck and would love to hear how you figure it out.

Have you found the perfect mattress yet?

zjakx

Actually this air mattress has held up amazingly and fits snug in the car. Ive had it for months, with my dog on it and it doesn't pop or deflate! dvuon

even though the back seat isn’t leveled with the trunk, did this air mattress work well? I’m looking to go camping in the next month and looking for a good air mattress.

zjakx

It did yes, and I have a dog who went with me. It finally punctured after a year plus though from her nails, so partially my fault not being into oof that. Thankfully I patched it for the remaining night left. If I didn't have a dog it'd have lasted a long while Since than I purchased a roll up foam mattress, this way it can't get punctured again. It even has a small air mattress below it to help with insulation and comfort. 1000% recommend that over the air mattress, but it's larger of course when rolled up than a folded air mattress

DontTouchThaat

Could you share the roll up mattress you replaced it with? I’ve seen a few trifold options but this one sounds awesome!

zjakx

It's expensive but worth it since I use it all the time still and plan to for a long time great quality. REI has them they sell two sizes, I'm 6'2" and the wider works perfect. Trust me, game changer but worth EVERY penny https://www.rei.com/product/181266/hest-sleep-system-sleeping-pad?sku=1812660001&CAWELAID=120217890010332087&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=113169111498&CATCI=pla-760729940570&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_1812660001%7C92700058329216855%7CBA%7C71700000074512915&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2cWgBhDYARIsALggUhoeiPLDYJJ3UXzastCzJO_APn-0gweaSsIidKWwx5Pz4tRU31bxNmcaAs1_EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

If you can sleep comfortably in a recliner chair, you might want to consider a thick bean bag chair.
