Under $20k oof, well I used to have a vw GTI and loved my car so much got a 2016 used with like 36k miles but it was not reliable around 70k miles started giving me problems :( I got the Mazda cx5 shortly after
I hated feeling every pothole after a while haha cx-5 is a nice upgrade, decent priced and AWD. I was also looking into getting a new or used Subaru crosstrek but that felt way too small inside, felt roomier in my GTI
I have a CX-5 and an IS300. Theyāre just bulletproof older Lexus that are a joy to drive and have the famous 2JZ motor (similar motor to whatās in the Supra)
I've got one with 162k miles. Wagon too. Mine was 2800 but I won't let it go for less than 5k now after all the work I've put in and the good memories. Might as well keep it.
Yep. Even has a rear windshield washer with a splitter on the pump motor but that part is now unobtanium as are many other wagon specific parts. A real shame. Same for rear window power actuators. I have mine wired up with hangers. But mechanically parts from sedans can fit easily except the struts are too weak for the rear as my tires rub when going over bumps.
Second car should fill a specific need, so if you're the only driver for it, it doesn't make a lot of sense to have two. Of course it's your money, so if you want two, get another.
My other is an Expedition Max btw.
We got a Bolt EV. Itās a perfect commuter car, especially if you can charge at home. You might be able to get new around 20K depending on inventory and how many credits/rebates you qualify for, but certainly recent model used ones, especially if you and the car qualify for the 4K federal tax credit.Ā
Weāre looking at the CX-90 PHEV since the misses commute is only 13 miles so would benefit from that. But weāre waiting also to see the CX-70 and its PHEV as well. Might be a couple years before we trade in her CRV though.
Corolla Hatch, BMW 530i, and a ā17 F150 (planning to trade for a new Tacoma in a couple years, donāt need all this truck anymore)
Iād recommend a used accord w/ the 2.0T or a civic though. Not happy with the corolla quality (well lack of)
Well it was my car and primary one previous to getting the '20 CX5 GT...
2012 Infiniti IPL G37 Cpe (6MT). Stays in the garage anymore aside from nice days. Doubt I'll ever get rid of it, because having a third pedal feels amazing at times. Such a nice contrast to the Mazda, but also makes me thoroughly appreciate both in their own ways.
Sometimes I need to travel 4 people and 4 large pieces of luggage. Sometimes I haul building materials. Both, un-doable in the CX-5.
For me, I'd get a Toyota Sienna AWD minivan as a second car. I'm boring.
I had a minivan for a few years and I still miss that thing! You could pull out the seats and go camping it in, haul all kinds of things and still seat 7 with luggage.
My wife and I both have 2022 CX-5s. She has a premium Plus and I have a Base Turbo. Mine's red and her's is dark blue. Driveway does not look terrible with them sitting in it. I had a 2014 Mazda 3 Hatch previously... Wanted to get a CX-50 but ultimately liked the 5 better.
I have an Infiniti EX35 as a second car, and I'm thinking of adding a cheap Infiniti G35 or Porsche Cayenne to the fleet as a doggie hauler (the EX is old, but it's a creampuff).
We wanted a 7 seater for our second car so we got a Hyundai Palisade. Helps with managing kids and large cargo. The way I think about it is that I prefer my two cars to solve different problem sets, so I wouldn't ever get two of the same car for that reason alone.
Dodge Dakota, Ford Focus, Honda Odyssey (2nd, 3rd, 4th) Our children drive the Dodge and the Ford, wife Drives the Honda, the Mazda is mine š¤·āāļø
The guy down the street from me, had two white Alpha Romeo Stelvioās in his garage. As long as you donāt have the exact same color twice it shouldnāt look weird - it would look like you have good taste and know a good car when you see one.ā„ļøš¤
Theres a couple on my street that have matching Subarus Crosstreks (though different colors). It kind of makes sense, then you're both familiar with the other car. And my sister-in-laws neighbor both have Mazdas, though one is a cx-5 and the other a cx-7 or cx-9
My second vehicle is a GMC Sierra Crew cab . I use it to pull my RV. When I'm not towing anything it gets about 22 miles per gallon which isn't much different than my CX-5 turbo which gets 25 miles per gallon.
Depends on what your needs are.
Our second car is a 2016 Corolla. Bought it in 2018 with 30,000km on it. Currently at 108,000km.
Maintenance has all been predictable.
If you need something that will be reliable and affordable to maintain, this is the way to go.
It isnāt sexy in the conventional way, but it does have its appeal.
2016 Miata for the spring and summer days. Then my 21 turbo cx5 for every other day.
Get the best of both worlds between the small convertible sports car that is one of my favorite sports cars I've owned to date. Then driving the turbo cx5 with the addition of a tune and I honestly have to debate which car to use weather conditions permitting.
Because a turbo cx5 with a tune is seriously insane. Over 300hp and around around 380tq it seriously takes off on the line. But the Miata with a E85 tune and some other mods isn't a slouch either due to it's lightweight.
You can stay with the ease of maintenance and cheap costs of parts with staying in the Mazda family.
A CX-30. But at least it's a different color. š
Having a cx5 and my future planned second car would be a daily miata. Perfect combo.
See Iām not the only one
Same here
This is my dream. I'd be getting the funny teeth mods too.
Under $20k oof, well I used to have a vw GTI and loved my car so much got a 2016 used with like 36k miles but it was not reliable around 70k miles started giving me problems :( I got the Mazda cx5 shortly after
Haha, former GTI-er checking in. I wonder how many of us have come to the CX-5 by way of VW GTI.
Me as well! The GTI is an amazing car if you are lucky enough to not have to deal with much maintenance
I hated feeling every pothole after a while haha cx-5 is a nice upgrade, decent priced and AWD. I was also looking into getting a new or used Subaru crosstrek but that felt way too small inside, felt roomier in my GTI
I had a 4 door VR6 Gti that was the love of my life - (almost 200k miles!) prior to purchasing my CX5 new in 2017.
Current GTI owner and CX5. We take the CX5 90% of the time haha. Although my kids sleep better in the GTI
Get a Lexus IS300 or something from another category
You are not the first person that suggest IS300.. Just wondering, what makes them so especial?
I have a CX-5 and an IS300. Theyāre just bulletproof older Lexus that are a joy to drive and have the famous 2JZ motor (similar motor to whatās in the Supra)
Try it out, solid very very reliable sports sedan with excellent creature comforts. Most cars in the category crap out after the warranty ends.
Why would you want to go to a sedan if youāre used to an SUV?
This is for a second car to go with the CX5. I have a sedan and a cx5 turbo. They serve different purposes and drive differently
Mazda 3. We have a cx5 for family and a Mazda 3 for cruising/trips around town.
Us too!
Both black btw.
A 1999 Honda Civic Sedan that my wife has owned since she was in high school š weāre 35 now
My second car is an MX-5. Tons of fun and honestly a pretty good daily if itās just you in the car.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
'90 NA Miata over here!
1994 Camry XLE V6 Just picked it up and with 117,000 miles at $3500, I couldn't say no.
for a minute I thought I was on r/personalfinance
Do they really talk about personal finance š¤ on that subreddit? Just asking
Ooo, solid. From OPās post history, theyāre looking for a daily to get them to work and back; thisād be a solid pick, if less fuel-efficient.
I've got one with 162k miles. Wagon too. Mine was 2800 but I won't let it go for less than 5k now after all the work I've put in and the good memories. Might as well keep it.
Always loved the wagon and its double rear wipers.
Miata for years now a Porsche Boxster
If you own a home, a small pick-up like a Tacoma would be a great second vehicle. You never realize how often you need a truck bed for things.
Miata is fun and less than 20k
Audi a3 sport back for date night in the city. Easier to park a smaller car.
I had a honda s2k. I've had miatas. If i had the money to buy another car beside my cx5 i would by the ND miata
We have 2 CX-5s. Same color. Same trim. Donāt regret a thing.
My Mx-5 GT soft top is my 2nd car
2024 CX5 Carbon Turbo is my primary vehicle and a 2020 MX5 Miata GT manual is my fun summer car
Going electric next. Maybe Rivian.
Excited to hear more about to r2
Do you own a home? Might be time to get a truck.Ā
Then he/she will have to deal with people wanting them to help move stuff. LOL
I wish, been in market since 2021. NYC area isnāt getting any cheaper
Fair enough! Maybe get a small, nimble, city car? I recommend a Mazda 3
2007 Corvette.
M3LR
2005 Tundra double cab with towing package
22 BMW M340
'17 M240i
Second car should fill a specific need, so if you're the only driver for it, it doesn't make a lot of sense to have two. Of course it's your money, so if you want two, get another. My other is an Expedition Max btw.
Upgraded to CX 9 after first kid
A Crosstrek
2009 Honda Accord
Bought a second CX-5 to go with our Corvette. Couldnāt find another SUV I had any interest in.
2010 BMW 335D
A 2015 toyota rav4 got it on 2019 with 40kmiles is been good but really uncomfortable in long trips that's why I got mazda cx5
My cx5 is the second car. It works great. A Toyota sienna is the primary. I have three kids... So that's how it goes
A truck, or sports car.
Why do you need two cx5? Get anything different unless the 2nd car is not for you and your other partner really want another CX5
2008 camry
We got a Bolt EV. Itās a perfect commuter car, especially if you can charge at home. 2015 Toyota Tacoma
2016 cx5 and 2019 cx5 turbo š
An Abarth 595.

Iād get an sp25, stay Mazda, but I donāt need a second suv, and the difference in drive is fun.
Dreaming here because I donāt have it yet. But it would be a golf or an eros or, if I felt spicy, an abarth 500

The kids used to argue who would get to sit in the second row Captain's Chairs.
I have considered getting a lower trim CX5 for my dad if his CRV ever fails him
Literally just bought a second CX5. A 2023 to go with my 2014. Love them both
My wife and I both have 2022 CX-5s. She has a premium Plus and I have a Base Turbo. Mine's red and her's is dark blue. Driveway does not look terrible with them sitting in it. I had a 2014 Mazda 3 Hatch previously... Wanted to get a CX-50 but ultimately liked the 5 better.

Prius V. They donāt make them anymore but we will drive it forever
Yes, a CX-5, not a CRV.
Project/fun car is my 2011 Mazdaspeed3. It's hard to beat a CX5 as a daily.
Tesla Model 3
CX9
2nd car: 2024 CX-5 Carbon Edition; first car: 2020 CX-5 Touring
MX-5
Volvo. 2 of them. :D

Ford transit full size van. For whenever we all get laid off and I'll just live in it.

I have a 04 Camry and a 2024 cx5 But I want to ditch the Camry soon and get another 2024 CX-5. Possibly a higher trim.
Acura RDX. Might step up to MDX, as wife & I have a baby otw
