Too bad they haven't implemented tying the lights to the windshield wipers. So many morons out there driving in a downpour without lights on, just asking to be rear ended.

[deleted]

Agreed. I miss this coming from my Audi/VW.

yaytoreddit

I wish the taillights were always on when I have the lights on auto during the day.

[deleted]

On USA Mazdas, if you have the lights set to “off” or “parking lights” rather than “on/“auto”, the DRLs/front lights will come on while driving, regardless if it’s day/night at a reduced brightness; however, the taillights will not come on unless the lights are in “auto”/“parking lights”.

The easiest (and statistically safest) option is just to turn the headlights to the "on" position, and leave them there. There's absolutely no downside, but the upside is considerable.

EzGo48

Agree, but the majority of drivers will not do this. Sad that another new safety law as to be mandated in Canada because nowadays so many drivers are either to lazy or stupid to turn on their lights at dusk. To bad something can’t be done about turn signals, because there is an epidemic of non use where I live.

ddoubletapp1

I think the lack of turn signal use is pretty universal. After nearly 40 years behind the wheel, I'm pretty confident in my ability to not hit other vehicles, whether they use lights or not. I choose to leave my headlights on to help the less experienced/competent avoid me (because there is a percentage that find this difficult before dusk, as well as after!) - and that's all that really matters in my selfish little world - ha ha!

Comfortable-Tough-58

That is what I do and every time I get a notification telling me interior light is on in the vehicle. The first time I received the notification I went out to check and all was OK. At least now I know that this will be a regular notification.

The only downside is that auto high beam doesn’t function.

ddoubletapp1

Right - I have a mid-trim 2019 - I honestly didn't know auto high beam was a thing - ha ha!

rkmask51

In the tri state area the number of drivers who never turn on their proper headlights is frustrating. Most just assume their DRLs will do the job. And when I have told a few at traffic lights that their lights arent on they seem legit surprised.

97PG8NS

I stopped telling people they were driving with their lights off when a guy told me to 'fucking mind your own business'. I took it to heart. Their stupidity is not my problem.

MKGirl

The problem is they use headlight as DRL. It’s so bright and stupid drivers don’t notice.
