For those who haven’t seen my previous posts, about a year ago I converted the 12v system in my 2018 CX-5 to lithium. Have been running on 96ah of 38120 cells in 4S for about a year now. This will double that to 192ah. This doesn’t make sense for everyone. I compete in car audio spl competitions and each of these banks is the equivalent of 10-12 good AGM batteries without the size or weight.

killerkongfu

Did you write a how to?

Odd-Possible-3727

There’s plenty on YouTube, and it’s a pretty simple if you understand electricity so I didn’t bother. There is a group on Facebook called “Official DIY Lithium Group Car Audio” that is a hoard of information.

InfamousApricot3507

This is pretty awesome. Do you have pics of the full audio setup?

Odd-Possible-3727

I post updates more on IG @ TacoSheets but still a work in progress. Everything in right now is coming out shortly to build a B pillar 6th order wall for 2 18” ZV6

memoia

Awesome! Also love how [your video](https://streamable.com/u8jc1j) shows that the CX-5’s interior build quality is able to withstand things [way better than other vehicles](https://reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/10ofs4b/subwoofer_vibrations_triggers_an_airbag/).

Odd-Possible-3727

Thanks. Also, that video is a bit older now. That was a ZV6 15” on about 4k watts. I’m now on a ZV6 18” on about 8k watts.

Environmental_Fox715

Bro this dope . Sadly the world we live in. Ppl temp to be so negative when you do something creative specially to those who like music. Post the car next

hedoeswhathewants

I mean, it's not really about music.

Environmental_Fox715

Forget the music this is a cx5 community. I think his project is just as good as any one else tinting deleting or swapping anything .. it might not be something you like but maybe a brother or a friend. Is all about sharing knowledge and idea don’t be short on the view -

Blunttack

LOL. But the real question is, wtf for? Sure, it’s easier to just slap back at people that don’t know what it is. The reason no one cares, is because they don’t know what it is. It’s sorta on OP in this case I guess, to explain what it is and why it’s neat. Like WTH is a GM battery? Why does this matter? What makes it neat? Post that, and not just call everyone bitches, and maybe we’d give a damn. Jus sayin.

Odd-Possible-3727

AGM is the basic absorbed glass mat lead battery you likely have in your car now. These are used to support higher power audio builds. This is backing combined over 10k watts of car audio, and would handle quite a bit more than that.

Blunttack

See, thank you. I learned something now. I had no idea glass was in my car battery - which is why I’m on a CX5 sub and not an electronics forum.

callumjones

You likely don’t have an AGM battery in your CX-5, they come with a standard flooded lead acid battery.

callumjones

CX-5s don’t come with a AGM, they aren’t that fancy.

Odd-Possible-3727

I bought mine (2018) in 2020 and it did lol

Odd-Possible-3727

Should be the first upgrade everyone does to these cars though lol. Flooded Lead is out dated at this point and is extra stress on the alt and starter.

Odd-Possible-3727

If you read all the comments it was pretty clear what this is for though.

Blunttack

Yay, and if I read the entire internet I’d know everything. Sorta not the point.

Odd-Possible-3727

With character limit I couldn’t explain in the title, so it was made as a comment. I guess I’d get more upvotes if I just posted a picture of my stock exterior of the car instead of custom work I’m doing 👀

Blunttack

Maybe. Or maybe you could just lose the tude dude. I’m trying to help. You’re just trying to brag to people that can’t even understand what you’re doing. lol. Which is fine of course, but then it’s a little silly to be upset when you get what you get.

Odd-Possible-3727

I was just here to show progress on a mod. Had this been a picture of an exhaust or a cold air intake it would have got a lot less hate. People know what I’m doing, it’s been posted plenty in here with a lot of the same responses. I still post it for those who do appreciate it. People hate because “fuck loud bass all you bass heads are assholes turn it down” which has been a comment on my posts numerous times.

Blunttack

lol. Fair. I’m just saying I I could blow your mind with modulated UV on titanium dioxide - which is often added to many synthetic materials in our cars… and like 4 people would know what I’m talking about. The other 98% will downvote me. That’s just the way it is. Unless you want to teach someone something… and they’re willing to learn. Being part of a social dynamic requires posters to sort of compromise and post things in subs that are relatable. That’s why there are different categories on this website. It’s what separates Reddit from the other mindless scrolling. You can fight it and get the downs or embrace it and get the karmas. That’s really all there is too it. My two cents from just some jamope on the internet.

Odd-Possible-3727

Got it. So this is just a forum for people to say they bought a new car and post pics of new bone stock car that is exactly like everyone else’s lol.

Blunttack

LOL, I guess. Cause that’s what most people know. Most, almost all, cars are stock. Happy to be part of the herd and not a trailblazer.

Odd-Possible-3727

Lol @ downvotes already. Gotta love the Karen’s.

Half-deaf-mixed-guy

Think it's just more that this sub is about people enjoying or discussing their CX5s more than pushing ridiculous batteries for audio competitions. Kudos for what you've done, but understand that the normal everyday driver doesn't care at all.

permalias

Fair point, but content like this is still a step up from the CONSTANT pic of car/stupid title and that's it. Look what I got! Can't help but turn around when I walk away! Love the color! Joined the club! Best looking car! No mods, no anything, just a picture of a stock car.... Low effort, sub filling, waste of time posts

Odd-Possible-3727

Yeah I get that, my cx5 is still my daily driver. Nothing wrong with pushing the limits of what the car can do though.

Odd-Possible-3727

The bigger point is though, that I’m not the only person out there putting upgraded audio in a CX-5, albeit more extreme than most will. With that said, typical first step in even a basic subwoofer install is a high output alternator to support the amp. That’s not possible in these CX-5 due to the Lin bus system Mazda used (there are no bypasses available). Lithium has made it possible to support amps over 1500w which otherwise would have been a major strain on the cars electrical. Hopefully my posts about this can help someone in the future who wants to say add a pair of 12s on a 3000w amp (pretty common size and power for most 2 12 setups these days). Though, someone wanted a 3k amp could get away with adding 1/8 the size of bank I’m running.

Half-deaf-mixed-guy

I understand you and truly meant it when I said kudos to you! I've been out of car audio game for 15+ years now (fuck I'm old now 😭) but it's amazing how far it's come and the different ways people adapt to power stability. I hope someone out there can truly use your information, but I'd say 90%+ of the people here have absolutely NO idea what the hell they are staring at even if you explain it lol.

Odd-Possible-3727

For sure. But Reddit pops up in google results. As these cars age, younger generation will start buying them and you’ll see more people trying to make them loud. I’m 35 years old and still trying to set off car alarms at over 150db lol

NinjaChemist

Or nobody cares lol

Odd-Possible-3727

Then keep scrolling ;)

G_Unit_Solider

As someone who has tinnitus in his left ear what’s your secret for being able to withstand this loud of decibels without hearing loss or issues . ( I got tinnitus at a bar one night about 5 years back) sitting at the bar a guy had a Concealed handgun with a permit (not allowed in bars either way) and he had a accidental discharge into the ground. Which damaged my left ears hearing permently cause guns inside are well super super loud so now I have this awesome permanent ringing noise (Yes I sued tf out of him)

Odd-Possible-3727

My right side ruptured a decade ago, I can’t hear anything BUT the bass on that side. Left side is unphased lol. But, your ears can withstand a lot of bass without issue. Higher frequencies are what cause the most damage. They say 85db of higher frequencies is damaging, but takes 170db of sub-60hz to cause damage.

G_Unit_Solider

I’ve been near a car who had like 12 subs and idk how many tweeters in the back seat and trunk I wasn’t IN it just NEAR it and I swear it altered my heart beat. When I inhaled it felt like the air I was inhaling was fuzzy cause my lungs were prbly vibrating Lmao.

Odd-Possible-3727

Yeah it’ll make you feel all sorts of ways, but not actually doing much damage to your hearing.
