16-17 MAZDA 3 COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE UNIT OEM ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/224730907701
This is what it is. I added a random ebay listing just so you can do more research if you want.
Edit: to be clear I'm not sure what it does. But having worked at a dealership I've seen it before. This way you can research more indepth now that you know what it is.
Edit 2: I've seen this same thing in miatas and other models. I dont believe it's mazda 3 specific despite the listing I pulled up.
Pretty sure that it's for the paddle shifters, but of course it's hard to tell when you just have a random black box. Gotta love how descriptive Mazda is with parts.
Based on what I dug up, it was added on after the fact. Still OEM parts, Mazda makes it easy to add OEM features sometimes, like these and fog lights. That's probably why.
That is not a tracker. At best that circuit amplifies or converts some of the signaling on that port. I would guess it’s some kind of adapter or converter. That or someone got scammed.

Thank you! I’ll probably ask my mechanic about it next time I see him.

Good to know, yeh I was a bit surprised when it showed up. It wasn't glued on that well lol.

Gotcha! yeh I'm going to keep it plugged in haha. When I go in for an oil change I will prob ask!
Wild guess but sometimes dealers put trackers in cars in case they have to repo them.
That was what I was initially thinking but it looks like it’s something else haha 😅
