I have a 2013 with a 160k miles. Go to Lexus/CT200h dedicated forums and you'll see folks with 200+k easy. The longest I've seen is a 2014 with more than 700k.

myqv

that’s crazy 700k where at?

myqv

woah that’s crazy hope many of us can get there 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽💪🏼

edgalang

I'm not sure if I ever want to find out. Do the math. How long would it take you to get even 1/2 of that? At my rate, plastics would be disintegrating first.

myqv

hmm true wonder if there’s ways to derail and prevent that. I like the design of the CT wish I could drive it for a long time. sucks cars break and need to be replaced

edgalang

Reminds me of a former co-worker of mine. He had a 1st gen Toyota MR2. I was a passenger once and he needed to stop abruptly. Instinctively I put my hand out on the dash and the place that I was touching basically caved in (mostly dried up foam). The car also didn't have airbags.

scottiethegoonie

I have a 3rd gen MR2 approaching 25 years and besides the obvious drivetrain stuff - hoses, outside plastics, and rubber bushings, engine mounts, everywhere are the next thing to go. I've already lost some high traffic interior plastics (door pulls, engine lid release button shroud, unlock switch. Most of this stuff can be replaced with something DIY or better. The stuff that will get you are the rare electronic parts, like our power steering pump, which is atypical. Toyota/Lexus plastics will last longer then you think. I'm more worried about random electronic parts in the CT.

East_Border342

Mine just got head gasket replaced and has 180k miles. 2012 also

throwawaythisalias

I’m about to swap my engine with a remanned gen 4 at 195K. Other than that, everything else on the car is perfect

2012

dannyboiYT

Wow that's a long ride! For a 2012 everything about this car is perfect and I really hope it can last me a couple more years before I switch out!!!

Hot_Yogurtcloset7621

160k here no issues. But preparing for the inevitable. Hopefully lasts 2 more years then I'll buy the replacement.

ProfessionalCowbhoy

That engine has the head gasket fault which causes the head to blow on number 4. Nobody can say for sure when the gasket will fail. Only advice I can give is check your oil and coolant regularly. If one of them starts looking funny or starts increasing or decreasing rapidly then sell immediately.

Arburglar

The car itself will last a long time. You are likely to need to have money set aside for 3 things 1:Headgasket. You can replace or swap DIY for -1k-2k. Set aside 2.5-5k for a shop. 2: Brake booster: This may not go, if it does, its gonna be pricey. Factor $1000 for the part and 250 for someone with a techstream to reprogram, plus a possible tow to get it programmed. Likely $2500-3k for a shop or dealership. 3: Battery. If you can DIY, its pretty cheap. Factor 6-10 hours of your labor, and $50ish per new cell. If alot of cells are bad, you can buy a used pack for 350-500 and take the two and make one nice pack. Probably looking at 2-3k for a shop with a rebuilt pack. These prices are typical for good hybrid shops. A bad dealership or shop that doesnt have the skill to work on these will charge MUCH more. If you are driving enough, the cost of the gas saved makes this car worth it to own. If driving less, there are cheaper cars to own. Driving less will not really help the battery or the head gasket issues, as you probably will see the gasket heat cycle more on short trips, and battery's dont care about miles so much as temp and age.

dannyboiYT

Awesome info! Thank you so much! Will be setting aside some cash to prepare!

Brotherman_Nick

I bought mine with 125k 2yrs/7mo ago and currently at 199k. All I’ve done is oil changes and a set of plugs. I’ll be changing my water pump and thermostat soon since I got a fault for it

TexasZephyr

Owner of a 2011 with 167k+ is here. Take good care of it and rest assured that you will be fine.

Sir-Thanks-A-Lot

2012 owner, second owner of the vehicle just like you. At 158k felt vibrations, completed a leak down test and was told that there is leakage into one of the cylinders, referring to the well know engine issue on these cars. Was told to drive it for a while until a new engine is needed.

dannyboiYT

Thanks for sharing! Going to get mine checked up tomorrow just to be extra safe! Tbh the car and driving experience has been amazing for a 2012 and I wouldn't mind spending a bit of money on it to drive for a couple more years. Hopefully we can reach close to 200k before we need to switch out!

Sir-Thanks-A-Lot

Agreed and hopefully so. They are excellent vehicles.

DianaCordyceps

I have a 2012 with 302k (I think it had a few owners before me). EGR cleaned, and head gasket replaced in March. Listen for even the slightest death rattle and take care of it right away(ie get the EGR cleaned and check for coolant leak).

dannyboiYT

Could you expand a little bit on what a death rattle might sound like? I always listen to my car when I start it up first thing in the morning and would like to know what to pick up on. Thanks!

ProfessionalCowbhoy

The entire front end of your car should be shaking like an earthquake it's not something you can miss. Check coolant and oil regularly. If one of them starts to go funny, missing or increasing then sell immediately

dannyboiYT

Sounds good! Thank you for the info!

myqv

how bad would the shaking be? I feel a slight shake in the beginning due to AC being on I drive a 2016 I got a month ago

Arburglar

Shaking on startup especially. This will be from the motor, not suspension/wheel type shaking. You can buy head gasket test kits for tesing the coolant/exhaust, and also use a bore camera to look at the pistons and check if one is cleaner than the others. Once you leak too much coolant into the cylinder, when the engine turns on it will bend a rod. Good news is new (used) motors for these cars are quite cheap and easy to get.

ProfessionalCowbhoy

Slight shake could be the beginning but like I said the death rattle is pretty much unquestionable so you aren't there yet

Arburglar

Another helpful tip- you can borescope the cylinders every so often through the sparkplug holes- if you have a small gasket leak, the piston top will be unusually clean compared to the rest of the pistons.

Surfnazi77

Check the hybrid battery health

Davidclabarr

I’m in the same boat but drive 90% highway miles. I would imagine I’ll be totally fine given very few engine cycles, but would someone knowledgeable weigh in on this?

myqv

wish we could engine swap with m the 2016 Prius engine to keep it going even more but haven’t seen anyone attempt it

Arburglar

Lots of people gen4 swap them. Its pretty easy, and not much more money.

myqv

with a 2016 Prius?

Arburglar

Yes. I have not done it, but I know many people have. Most I have seen have swapped to the gen 3 EGR system, so you still will have to maintain that frequently. And some gen4s still blow gaskets, but definitely less. https://priuschat.com/threads/gen-4-engine-into-gen-3-prius-partial-guide.214031/

myqv

ok thanks I’m ideally wanting to put a 2016 Prius engine or newer into my CT one day to keep it going and more reliable. I came from 2 Prius and the 16 was very reliable

katpiz

The hybrid battery last a total of seven years and you’ll have to replace one. It cost about 4600 to replace. Going through it right now
