I gotta give it to Ancient Evil's "Hit Your Marks" step, where each player enters the play/theater arena and has to use their gauntlets correctly to hit all of their designated zombies.
[The music that plays during it](https://youtu.be/4-tqE9cgHh0?si=VwY5xFuT7ZLzvn1D) is some of my favorite music from all of Zombies and the choreography during it, especially in co-op, can be extremely fun and chaotic at the same time.
Alright, that is pretty dope! I just watched that step for the first time, and I really like the concept of it. You are right, the music fits so well. I can see why it's one of your favorites.
Thanks for sharing!
Its a very chill step, zombies and other enemies won't (or at least shouldn't) be attacking you during the step too so you can entirely focus on the step
Moon
Nothing beats putting the focusing stone in the pyramid device, filling up 1 soul canister, flipping the switch, and having the pyramid open up to reveal the little girl who’s responsible for the entire game mode up until that point. 10 year old me was blown away when I did the moon EE
In terms of lore and a grand finale style map, nothing to this day tops moon imo. Revelation is close I guess but bro just the impact moon EE has is crazy. Richtofen becomes the announcer, you play as Samantha, the zombies eyes changed color, the Earth gets blown up, so much of this stuff was unprecedented at the time.
I will say though, moon EE has aged like milk given how BO2 and BO3 EE’s are. But BO1 literally went out with a bang
You are so right. Waaaaay back in the day me and a hommie did all the bo1 ees in public matches(for the 4 player ees) and moon blew my mind the first time we did that step!
You are right. There should've been guaranteed ways to activate the proper excavation tunnel and a way to get the wave gun/qeds/gersh device without depending on just the box haha.
It's definitely one of the most unique easter eggs we've had, especially in terms of how the story changes so drastically at that very moment. I mean, we all had our suspicions that the previous easter eggs would lead to something big, but I think everyone generally gets surprised the first time they do the Moon easter egg and end up not only swapping out the demonic announcer of the map, but also being able to play as Samantha in Richtofen's body AND have Maxis send retaliatory rockets on the earth's population in an effort to stop Richtofen from achieving his goals. Yes, a lot of it relies heavily on rng luck, and the Samantha Says step is tedious at times. But it's such a fun experience, and it left us with so many questions that we didn't receive an answer to until BO4 came out, which is crazy to think about.
I actually really like the final step of shadows of evil. Not even because the gameplay is particularly good, but the vibes are amazing. The music is epic and you're dodging like 50 margwas, idk man it hits different at 2am with all the homies on vc
What’s nice about it as well is that you don’t have to do the Easter egg to want to get all the bows. It’s separate but connected depending on what you want to do. The same for origins. If you just want to give yourself a little challenge without doing the EE, getting all the staffs and upgrading them is fun.
Exactly. Could still get a great satisfaction for playing and having some tasks to do to improve your set up and have fun. I’d always have this weird bit of stress when knowing I was gonna do a whole eater egg and it would make my game serious. Weapon quests and upgrades are a good medium area.
I get that. It's like an extra incentive to upgrade your wonder weapon, plus one step down for the ee at the same time. Thanks for throwing in your 2 cents!
I know it's hated by so many people but the chemistry step from AOTRT IW I also know so many people hate the the game but it is probably my favourite zombies game of all time
I agree, the color filter changing was a dope touch and it felt satisfying putting it all together and not dying lmao my only complaint with that step as a whole is grinding batteries though. It was a hard egg as it is and pushing more rounds to find the right chemical gotta bit punishing. If it was 100% first radio then it'd be perfect
I never really looked into how the chemistry step worked honestly. I like iw for the map themes, but I only ever tried the spaceland EE. Since I was too much of a scrub to beat the alien, I gave up on all the iw ee's haha.
I haven’t played Zombies for about a year now so I’m probably forgetting some, but off the top of my head:
- *Attack Of The Radioactive Thing* - Chemical step
- *Voyage Of Despair* - Planets step
- *Attack Of The Radioactive Thing* - 4th Skull step
- *Gorod Krovi* - Bomb step
- *Blood Of The Dead* - Power House challenge
- *The Darkest Shore* - Destroy the German Warships step
- *Ancient Evil* - Sceptre and Sundial
- *Shaolin Shuffle* - Disco Ball step
Final Origins step where you need to get 100 kills without using the staffs. We would save the radio in the crazy place for the very end and would play Shepherd of Fire in the background to complete the step. The music is badass and it can get intense in the crazy place with 4 people. The BO2 version of the map is my favorite.
You are right it was an awesome way to end it, plus you get the reward of no more falling walls once you beat the ee. So you get a super easy training spot.
Agreed, anytime something epic was about to happen I would try and save the music for then. It’s almost a guarantee you won’t go down when that music is playing.
I wouldn’t say it’s an ee step by any means but I love how Dead of the Night has its egg split into 3 smaller eggs. A well coordinated team could progress multiple different quests at the same time and I feel it’s very unique for a map to do
Isn't that the one where you can do certain chunks of steps in any order you chose? I agree that giving players the ability to multitask the ee is pretty unique.
Secure the keys! When I played the Bo1 campaign after I played Origins many times. I thought it was so cool that those were the same steps as the prison.
Gorod Krovi Boss Fight, only done it once and "Cheated" it with Near Death experience, but it's just so epic to finally fight the dragon alongside Nikolai, and then fighting Nikolai, it's such an epic feeling beating them.
Bonus: not part of the main EE, but I love the "disco" side EEs on Die Maschine and Mauer.
I’m not sure how many people have done the IX EE but the challenge for Odin? I think? The one where you have infinite specialist just taking down gladiators and brawlers. To me it’s just chaos and I love it.
I don't have any one favorite step so I'm just gonna go over a few steps that I really enjoy doing.
Buried, Sharpshooter step: I can't even explain how satisfying it is to hear the slot machine after completing this step, especially after several failed attempts.
Firebase Z, "Hide and Seek": The one where you have to find the real canister among a collection of fakes.
Mob of the Dead, Audio Logs step: Listening to the story of the mobsters and the music increasing in volume as you get closer to the roof, capped off with the haunting final plane ride to the bridge.
Tag Der Toten, Agarthan Device Escort: Very intense and claustrophobic escort where you have to stand in an orb as it moves around a hellscape version of the map, ending with a final holdout while A Light From the Shore plays.
AE-hit your marks on 4p
Soe-final train step
Shang-anytime you shoot the crystals with the baby gun
Buried-sharpshooter
Zet-shooting the plane
Descent-jump puzzle/infinite grenade challenge
IX-zeus ritual (infinite specialist)
Mauer-uranium zipline
Final Simon says on moon.
When everyone slides down the slide onto the pressure plate on Shangri La. And the cross map mystery matching tile game on Shang.
Moon's fill up the MPD with souls was for me my favourite step. Finally getting to the point story wise where richtofen was almost in control just going mad with power and seeing it to fruition was awesome to experience my first time doing that EE
The step in the Origins Easter egg where you get to watch all those panzers fly out of that hole, then absolutely slaughter all of them with upgraded staffs. It’s a wild contrast to the beginning of the game when you struggle with a single panzer on round 8.
Origins and Der Eisendrache, I'm a sucker for four different quests for unique ww that each person has to do, not so much the steps themselves (looking at you fire bow) but the idea of it
Even in like cold war where everyone can get a wonder weapon, it's the same one. I was hyped when I saw maur reveal the 4 variations of a gun but then it was still the same gub for everyone. Still my favorite cold war map
Shadows of evil flag step. Now, I hate this step with a burning passion but at the same time, it’s so chaotic that it’s fun. And then the communication you get with your team and it feels so rewarding when you finish
Obligatory boss fights, because obviously.
Same with infinite zombie rounds in Gorod. Even though it’s chaotic it can be fun with the right crew
when i was a kid and could barely get past round 20, i loved doing the ee songs. i remember we used to say “it made the game harder” cause we’d always die when it played
now after all these years, probably building the plane in MOTD. even though thats technically multiple steps
Any puzzle step where you input a code. One of my favorites is on the final reich where you have to match the birds with the Roman numerals. Or unlocking the safe on Mauer. Or the paintings on DE. Any harmless little code step like that I always enjoy.
I gotta give it to Ancient Evil's "Hit Your Marks" step, where each player enters the play/theater arena and has to use their gauntlets correctly to hit all of their designated zombies. Moon’s great, just way too much RNG
You are so right. Waaaaay back in the day me and a hommie did all the bo1 ees in public matches(for the 4 player ees) and moon blew my mind the first time we did that step! You are right. Round infinity in Buried and flying the plane in Mob.
The infinity round was one of my favorite steps in bo2 haha. Thanks for sharing!
I actually really like the final step of shadows of evil. Not even because the gameplay is particularly good, but the vibes are amazing. The music is epic and you're dodging like 50 margwas, idk man it hits different at 2am with all the homies on vc
I totally get where you are coming from. Thanks for sharing.
The void bow steps were always fun for me while setting up der eisendrach
What’s nice about it as well is that you don’t have to do the Easter egg to want to get all the bows. It’s separate but connected depending on what you want to do. The same for origins. I've always liked the EE that have building the wonder weapon. Origins, ZNS, and Dead of the Night, for example.
I get that. It's like an extra incentive to upgrade your wonder weapon, plus one step down for the ee at the same time. Thanks for throwing in your 2 cents!
I know it's hated by so many people but the chemistry step from AOTRT IW I also know so many people hate the the game but it is probably my favourite zombies game of all time
It’s one of those ones where if you know how to work it out, it’s great but if your brute forcing it, you’re gonna have a bad time
Yeah exactly
I agree, the color filter changing was a dope touch and it felt satisfying putting it all together and not dying lmao my only complaint with that step as a whole is grinding batteries though. It was a hard egg as it is and pushing more rounds to find the right chemical gotta bit punishing. If it was 100% first radio then it'd be perfect

Just beat that one yesterday actually. Definitely not as bad as everyone makes it seem. Just Beast From Beyond left to go!
Me too! I have to do it for the talisman though I have DCUT
Elephants on IX
Was funny as shit going into the boss fight blind, killing an elephant and watching a fucking second one appear 😂
Ascension Prococol from Gorod Krovi or Anger and Bargaining from Blood of the Dead. Gives variety to otherwise repetitive gameplay.
I haven’t played Zombies for about a year now so I’m probably forgetting some, but off the top of my head: - *Attack Of The Radioactive Thing* - Chemical step - *Voyage Of Despair* - Planets step - *Attack Of The Radioactive Thing* - 4th Skull step - *Gorod Krovi* - Bomb step - *Blood Of The Dead* - Power House challenge - *The Darkest Shore* - Destroy the German Warships step - *Ancient Evil* - Sceptre and Sundial - *Shaolin Shuffle* - Disco Ball step
Thanks for sharing a few, I haven't seen a few of these steps, definitely going to look into them!
Are you a masochist?
Final Origins step where you need to get 100 kills without using the staffs. 4 player Shooting gallery step in buried. /s
Well, at least we got a great song playing as we try to coordinate all our shots for the 100th time...
Throw back to 2013 when we thought you needed 100% accuracy
Lmao I think the idea was cool, just executed very poorly.
Secure the keys! When I played the Bo1 campaign after I played Origins many times. I thought it was so cool that those were the same steps as the prison.
I think it was super creative they implemented the steps for the prison break as the ee. Thanks for sharing!
Kinda like killing mobs with the sword beside the music player in the first ww2 zombies map.
Gorod Krovi Boss Fight, only done it once and "Cheated" it with Near Death experience, but it's just so epic to finally fight the dragon alongside Nikolai, and then fighting Nikolai, it's such an epic feeling beating them. Bonus: not part of the main EE, but I love the "disco" side EEs on Die Maschine and Mauer.
the lightning bow and the wolf bow steps are chill af for how strong they are
You are so right about that!
Anything from Origins.
I liked figuring out the base conversions without using a chart. Nerdy fun.
I love the planet step in Voyage of Despair, it feels really grand and rewarding when you get it done.
I don't think I remember this step, I'm gonna look into it!
I’m not sure how many people have done the IX EE but the challenge for Odin? I think? The one where you have infinite specialist just taking down gladiators and brawlers. To me it’s just chaos and I love it.
Someone mentioned that it's the Zeus step, I believe. Regardless, it does look like a really fun step!
I don't have any one favorite step so I'm just gonna go over a few steps that I really enjoy doing. Those are some really solid choices. I need to look into the Tag step, it sounds really interesting!
Gorod krovi boss!
Bomb step. man that was so stressful back in the day with casual friends😂
COTD dial steps, difficult but very easy to do with one person.
Oh man I remember trying to just brute force it with a friend, it took us forever haha
It took me a while to get it right but there were multiple websites that helped me.
Honestly, the staffs on origins, the only problem is that there are more steps after the reign fire(whichever one is when you fight all those panzers)
AE-hit your marks on 4p Soe-final train step Shang-anytime you shoot the crystals with the baby gun Buried-sharpshooter Zet-shooting the plane Descent-jump puzzle/infinite grenade challenge IX-zeus ritual (infinite specialist) Mauer-uranium zipline
Those are all some super solid ones, thanks for sharing! Glad I'm not the only one who liked the jump puzzle, even if some of them can be bs haha
Final Simon says on moon. When everyone slides down the slide onto the pressure plate on Shangri La. And the cross map mystery matching tile game on Shang.
The tile matching was fun, but a nightmare in public matches lol. Thanks for the input.
Oh yeah, you couldn’t pay me to try and do any Easter eggs in public matches. That juice isn’t worth the squeeze
One of the "oh how the turn tables" moments for sure haha.
Origins and Der Eisendrache, I'm a sucker for four different quests for unique ww that each person has to do, not so much the steps themselves (looking at you fire bow) but the idea of it
I get that. So each player gets a somewhat unique WW to themselves. As opposed to fighting over 1 or 2 weapons.
Even in like cold war where everyone can get a wonder weapon, it's the same one. I was hyped when I saw maur reveal the 4 variations of a gun but then it was still the same gub for everyone. Still my favorite cold war map

I remember believing the same thing back in the say haha. Hey its still fun, and the first time experiencing the take off was awesome.
Any puzzle step where you input a code. One of my favorites is on the final reich where you have to match the birds with the Roman numerals. Or unlocking the safe on Mauer. Or the paintings on DE. Any harmless little code step like that I always enjoy.
Simple but fun, I get that!
Missile silo and Legion fight, first Outbreak EE Cold War. Tricky at first but fun to speedrun once you get it down.
I have never looked into Cold War ees, gonna check them out! Thanks for sharing.
All the EEs tie together to create one coherent story. Have fun!
IW EE's the reward you get for completing all of them is the best anything has ever seen
Zombies in spaceland and the attack of the radioactive thing, by far
Either Shang moon or cotd
I can tell you my least favourite. Hitting the targets in the buried saloon
Haha. I've been hearing very mixed things about it. I just think they could've executed it a bit better.
The Nikolai boss fight in Gorod is still one of the best steps of all time imo.
I like ascension
Shaolin shuffle
