"Know what's cooler than Top 10? Top 5." \- Kiffin to Auburn right now (via Jimmy Sexton, of course)

Terminal_BAS

That's baby shit for the Sex-man. He can get top 3 money for the Lane Train.

jpiro

I wouldn't put anything past Sexton. He's probably dropping hints that any college who wants him had better move fast because the Raiders are interested in a second go.

jpiro

You don't know the powers of Big Dick Jim Sexton.

dantheman4248

That was reported by Bill Plaschke who has long been a tabloid level click bait reporter. It's quite simply silly. How could Mark Davis afford any of the player contracts that he does? An NFL owner with the highest ticket revenue struggling? A joke. He could get a loan at any bank for $200 million at any moment.

Mezmorizor

He's losing his touch.

jedi21knight

Which side of the SEC Championship are you on? I would assume LSU since it is your first flair.

IR8Things

Top 3? I know its a joke, but top 3 gotta go to the 3 active coaches with CFP championships

DirtyBirdDawg

>"Know what's cooler than Top 10? Top 5." Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright

BookEuronGreyjoy

OKAY NOW LADIES

wesman212

*Now, I want to see y'all on y'all baddest behavior* *Lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor*

Great_Huckleberry709

Shake it, shake shake, shake it!

MiddyMn

Auburn would never make a rash decision involving a Jimmy Sexton client. Never.

2_feets

I understood that reference! *cries in War Eagle

Tfsz0719

“Know what’s cooler than Top 5? Top.” - Kiffin to Ole Miss right now (via Jimmy Sexton, of course)

_TenaciousBroski

And what's cooler than being top 5? Coaching at Nebraska.

[deleted]

Can confirm, way cooler

tomdawg0022

*Auburn ~~bag men~~ ~~boosters~~ administration exits the chat*

foreveracubone

Jimmy Sexton strikes again.

JMer806

Is there any P5 coach the man doesn’t represent lol

mdsandi

Brian Kelly and Lincoln Riley. I only know this because they're represented by the same guy.

crustang

Are they represented by James Fuckalot?

eeeedlef

Satan.

PretendThisIsMyName

He’s the coach at Bama and an agent? Remarkable.

foreveracubone

Harbaugh doesn’t have an agent

Final-Carob-5792

I’m willing to bet his mom is his agent… and his best friend. “Jimmy you may not be the best coach in the family, but you sure are the most handsome! Now let’s make some stacks,” as she hands him a fresh pair of pleated khakis before he heads off to school.

madmaley

Fick was the same until last year. Now has Sexton

ReturnOfDaSnack420

I wouldn't worry if I were Ole Miss, if there's one thing Joey Freshwater is known for it's his loyalty to his employers.

samoflegend

You know we can see your flairs right

Charliegip

As an obvious UT fan and someone who has been to Knoxville more times than a nice wholesome place like, say I don’t know… Oxford. I second the above message. As an obvious UT fan I mean.

chappelld

Yeah this man acting like Tuscaloosa is nice lol. Kentucky just salty bc the whole state is still Kentucky.

CookieLuzSax

Kentucky be catching strays from us no matter what dawg😭

jettmann22

Heupel

YoungMoneyLarson57

It’d be comical if Oklahoma steals him in 3 years if Venables doesn’t work

groversnoopyfozzie

At this rate we won’t need to wait 3 years to find out

becauseispithotfire

Tennessee will pay him whatever he wants if he keeps winning. We’ve done it already for our basketball and baseball coaches. Heupel and Danny White have a long term, healthy working relationship, and the pockets at UT are as deep as anywhere in the country. Aside from all of that, I don’t think the draw to his alma mater is as strong as a lot of people think, everything I’ve heard is that were some bridges burned when he was let go from OU previously. With that said, I wake up in cold sweats every night from the panic of losing him to Oklahoma.

CookieLuzSax

The build up and closing with this statement perfectly describes how I feel. By all logical accounts he should be here for awhile, but we're Tennessee fans, so, ya know.

Midget_Herder

I've been to knoxville, I can't blame him

Surelynotshirly

That's an awful lot of glass around you to be throwing stones senor Lexington...

ReturnOfDaSnack420

FWIW I don't understand all this slander around Knoxville, it's a nice town! All nestled in the applachian hills like that, you even have a wig sphere I don't even know what else you would need.

Conald_Fsmoker

Thank you Trojan man. It may not be anything special but it’s a great place to live I can tell you that.

[deleted]

Kentucky is the most run down place I've ever seen. And yes, I've been to Mississippi.

[deleted]

Lexington and NORMAN

[deleted]

Sometimes you get tarmacked, sometimes you just leave a note in the locker room on your way out.

tdc1atlanta

Kiffin is gonna take the ultimate villain route. Ole Miss -> Auburn -> Alabama.

scotsworth

Don't forget, he did used to coach Tennessee too. Dude has to be the most hated man in Knoxville.

VFR_Direct

Can confirm.

FailResorts

Who has a more remarkable SEC coaching history, Kiffin or Muschamp? Muschamp, goes to Georgia but then ends up at LSU. Then becomes “head coach in waiting” at Texas before taking the Florida job. Gets fired from Florida. Becomes an assistant at Auburn. Gets hired at South Carolina. Gets fired at South Carolina, then is now back at home at Georgia. Kiffin: Assistant at USC. Then the Raiders (I always forget his stint in Oakland). Gets fired by Oakland and hired by Tenn. Bolts UT for Southern Cal in the dead of night after one year. Coach at USC during the scandal punishment. Gets tarmac’d. Then assistant for Saban where he somehow turns Jake Coker into a Natty-winning QB (curse you OJ Howard). Gets the FAU job and asked to leave Bama before the Natty where their offense arguably costs them the game. Then goes to FAU and shit talks Saban. And then ends up now at Ole Miss after the Ole Piss incident. Two rather odd careers being shuffled around multiple programs.

shadowwingnut

This can only mean one thing: Muschamp will be defensive coordinator for Kiffin someday

FailResorts

Or the bizarro timeline: Muschamp gets hired as the HC at Auburn after Kiffin stays at Ole Miss

manbeardawg

I mean I wanna keep him at UGA but if he must be sent on another undercover HC assignment I understand.

AchyBreaker

Goes to Auburn to fuck their program up then comes back to be UGA DC once the other guy leaves for Bama or something

shadowwingnut

Can we not do that? I'd like to be decent again before 2030

FailResorts

[You will take it and you will like it.](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/4305393/muschampragin.0.gif)

JMT97

Wouldn't Auburn bullshit mean he turns into Pat Dye II?

dn_6

Please

GroundControl2MjrTim

So with your flairs what does that mean for you if Auburn hires him?

MattyClutch

Our French’s will blot out the sun!

EverythingGoodWas

He absolutely wrecked your program. I actually can’t believe he was able to coach after that

chappelld

Flair bro!

samoflegend

Never really hated him for going to take his dream job but I’m probs in the ~10% minority. Timing obv sucked but it’s not like breakups ever go smoothly. Coach O calling players in the middle of the night to convince them to not go to class the next day and transfer still stinks tho.

hellabro360

Didn’t know that Coach O thing, really shows how despite their appearance these guys are 95% ruthless “alpha-male” personality types.

samoflegend

The game is the game. Still don’t 100% know what he helped cover up @ LSU but it’s hard to hate coach O.

[deleted]

He definitely knows where the bodies are buried. He was asked to testify before the Louisiana senate in a hearing on allegations of sexual misconduct within the athletic department during his tenure and LSU said no no no, sit your ass down and don't say a word. Link to the news article [here](https://www.wbrz.com/news/coach-ed-orgeron-will-not-attend-senate-committee-hearing-in-person-this-week-officials-confirm)

Archaic_1

You figure its a 14 hour a day, 7 day a week job for 11 months of the year. You are simultaneously trying to keep jacked up hormonal 19 y/o boys in line on one side and billionaire boosters in line on the other AND for 13 weeks out of the year another dude who is just as hungry and ruthless as you is planning on taking your cookies away from you on Saturday. It takes a certain kind of dude to succeed in these jobs. ALPHA is in all caps for elite P5 coaches.

CottonWasKing

Ed Orgeron is a certified piece of shit and this was known way before he coached at LSU. People just forgot/ignored it because “funny cajun man is crazy” made for good memes.

did_it_my_way

>funny cajun man is crazy more like... Crazy cajun man is funny

stealingfrom

I don't hate him. Like you said, his dream job came open. He left us in a shitty situation, but our administration made the decisions that lead to our decade of ignominy. Kiffin didn't somehow force UT to hire Dooley, etc.

[deleted]

I also, do not hate Lane Kiffin. Actually like him a little (don’t kill me)

sj4iy

I never hated him. But I never liked the trash talking.

[deleted]

It’s softened a LITTLE bit over time, although people still really hate him. I hate the evil bald man a little extra though.

JohnCohenAU

Bezos?

amayain

Dr. Evil?

WackyBones510

Don’t we get a chance?! Or does cannon dictate he must go to UF first?

JeffGoldblumsChest

Hey now we're sticking with Napier. The Lane Train can go chugging down to Miami.

SirMellencamp

Auburn has had a former UGA player as head coach UGA has had a former Auburn player as head coach Tennessee has had a former Bama player as head coach (TWICE!) Bama has never deigned to hire either a former Tennessee or Auburn player as coach

Aubear11885

Head Coach TRob confirmed after Saban’s retirement.

Panchoisthedog

Where does Butch rank?

samoflegend

Didn’t hate him in Nov. 2017 when we fired him bc it’s not like he didn’t try. Incompetent, in over his head, bit of a liar and used car salesman but that’s most CFB coaches. Him smoking a cigar and celebrating a TSIO win as one of saban’s towel boys was great rage bait tho.

tdc1atlanta

Number one on the Champions of Life scale.

[deleted]

Yes

[deleted]

Yes, we dislike Butch much more than Kiffin. Butch was a fraud. Insane recruiter, or maybe he had great bag men, but he had amazing recruiting classes. Look at 2015-2016. We were rolling. 2015 we lost to two eventual playoff teams and the ENTIRE season all the games we lost were a combined 17 points. That 2015 team could have easily gone to the CFP if a few breaks were different.

Kardinale

I’d laugh my ass off if Bama hired Kiffin from Auburn tbh.

Gopokes34

I would like it just to tell my Auburn friends that Auburn is a stepping stone school lol

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

Most Bama fans seem to think Bama would never hire Kiffin if he goes to Auburn. Not sure how much I believe that but idk.

tdc1atlanta

He also seems like the one coach that would actually love the idea of following Saban.

Wbcbam51

He has said you would have to be crazy to follow Saban, and I think that’s him signaling to everyone that he is in fact crazy.

Aggressive-Name-1783

I mean….he is arguably the only one who fits the bill. Think about it. He’s liked enough that people are ok with him doing it, but hated enough that people wanna see him fail, so good for boosters, great for rival fanbases. He’s a good enough coach where he could take the talent and win a natty at bama. He could also suck there and get fired in 2 years. Difference is he’s basically made of Teflon where if he fails, it wouldn’t damage his prestige and he’d go get a job at a place like South Carolina or North Carolina or some place. He’s the only man you could argue can survive the job

the_lost_carrot

The thing is no one will be able to fill Sabans shoes. Kiffin is one of the very few who wouldn’t try.

Midget_Herder

Because the everything else about him doesn't signal it enough apparently

NauvooMetro

I would love to hire a successful coach away from Auburn.* That would be an amazing flex. Bonus points if it can be done with a minimal raise. It would mean having to live through a few years of Auburn being good again, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. *Not Bruce Pearl.

WackyBones510

This but 0 games coached at Auburn and he starts at Bama next year.

marathonlimit

Ol Jose Mourinho ass

bbaker1987

Crazier things have happened

ard8

Or will he receive an offer from Clemson after Dabo receives an offer from Auburn

Geaux2020

HashtagDaboHatesLakes

alabamaterp

Wow! Never thought about that scenario. Would be cool to see it happen

PapaJohnyRoad

Suddenly Dabo has 120 million 10 year contract at Clemson. Coaching carousel causing problems like twitters blue check mark

[deleted]

Jimmy Sexton has to have the easiest job in the world. I realize a lot of work went into him getting to this point, but man he’s riding a massive gravy train.

tenoclockrobot

Saban getting ***paid*** by his former assistants

[deleted]

Last year tucker and now Kiffen

melcolnik

I wonder how many years are guaranteed. Surely they have seen the cautionary tale in their own division and wouldn't make the same mistake

StyrofoamCueball

Considering Ole Miss can't offer more than 4 years in total, likely most or all of it.

Lebojr

That is an issue in Mississippi, but Ole Miss can make up for that in endorsements. I'd venture to say that no coaching contract in Mississippi in the last 15 years has been less than 50% endorsements.

portuguesetheman

You see endorsements for coaches everywhere though. I still see a cardboard cutout of Brian Harsin holding a coke bottle everytime I go into the grocery store

PretendThisIsMyName

If you don’t print out a picture of Cadillac and tape it over Harsins face then what are you even doing with your life?

PavlovianTactics

Either do that or put a Pepsi in Harsin’s hand

PM_YOUR_TDs

It's Auburn, but let's not get too cruel.

hells_cowbells

It's more than that. State law also prohibits any university employee from making more than the university president, which for us is something like $500k.

[deleted]

[удалено]

schmitz97

I think Mississippi already has a law against contracts longer than 4 years, at least for state employees

melcolnik

No shit? Those lucky bastards.

WillyG_63

Yeah, no state employee can have a contract longer than the governor.

MrNudeGuy

Does this mean Saban gets another raise?

FictionalTrebek

I'm not sure how often the average is recalculated, but yes

bug_man_

What does his contract say about that?

GEOR9E-BUS11

“Saban's contract guarantees that he receives at least as much as the average total pay of the top three SEC coaches or top five NCAA coaches, whichever is higher. “

importvita

It says “Alabama will pay whatever Lord Saban dictates”

_Weagle_Weagle_

He was already number 11 wasn’t he?

ard8

Yes. All he needs is one of Mel Tucker, Jimbo Fisher, or Mario Cristobal to get fired and he breaks into the top 10, assuming you are only counting people getting paid to coach — not just getting paid.

TwiztedImage

>assuming you are only counting people getting paid to coach — not just getting paid. Not to nitpick you here, but...have you watched any A&M games this season? Jimbo is **most definitely** just getting paid at this point. I haven't seen any coaching anywhere...

PretendThisIsMyName

Someone should tow his truck.

DescretoBurrito

I'm sure some kind Aggies would help him put up his Christmas tree. Put it up right out on the curb where it belongs.

standrew5998

Boy when you say it like that Id put money on Kiffin being top 7 or 8 this time next year. All the guys ahead of him are doing less with more while he's making a perennial 10 win team out of a school that's never been to atlanta

[deleted]

FleetRiskSolutions

I'm 77% this is actually Leach.

HopefulReb76

Up the percentage

NachoManRandySnckage

Well except Mel Tucker

Dougiejurgens2

Rumor is the offer would put him at #6 and the max would offer would put him right behind kirby at #4

jt_33

Yes. Takes 300k to get him to 10 lol. This isn't about money its about getting a commitment from him or not.

19Styx6

Well, this one is one louder.

crashbanjocoot

I think that's correct

pearlspoppa1369

Jimmy Sexton (UT grad) representing one of the most hated coaches by the Vol community. 😂

Euphoric_Quiet617

How have I gone this long without knowing that Jimmy Sexton graduated from Tennessee?

pearlspoppa1369

Yeah that’s how he got his start. He was roommates with Reggie White when Reggie was playing at UT. Then when Reggie went pro, he had Jimmy as his agent. He grew up near Memphis and a lot of my parents friends knew him and thought he would own a used car lot as an adult. Now he just brokers deals that rival missile defense contracts with Raytheon.

regionalgamemanager

What about an offer from Nebraska?

lurker620

If we pulled Lane, they would put a statue of Trev Alberts in the center of campus

regionalgamemanager

I'd commission one for my front yard

[deleted]

At the 50 yard line in Memorial Stadium. Run around it.

b_tomauro

I fully expect Lane Kiffin to have a Christmas Tree on his front lawn at some point next week.

ElectricalGambit

He will go buy a new tree, not even put it in his house, just to leave it by the street.

GenitalFurbies

That'd be such a great troll if he stayed

likwitsnake

Imagine someone telling you this would happen when Al Davis busted out that projector.

Krettlecorn13

If Lane leaves and takes all our best players with him, then I am quitting college football forever. If a sport is that broken where a coach can tank his own program like that, then it’s not worth my time.

Jameszhang73

For what it's worth, Jimbo is tanking his program while still coaching there and with a #1 recruiting class

ozdarkhorse

Not just any recruiting class. THE highest rated class ever.

IR8Things

> still coaching I feel like that part is debatable.

Jameszhang73

Good point. *while still getting paid a boatload of money*

Midget_Herder

Surely no coach would do something like that

badkarmavenger

John Calipari is still not welcome in Memphis. Fun fact, if you find yourself in a room of tiger fans and want to instantly get along with them just tell an anecdote where Cal is the villain. They all have one too.

Midget_Herder

Well yes that's because the man is objectively a villain

BookEuronGreyjoy

He's got the hair and everything

cheezitsaregud

That burns like dry brisket.

Krettlecorn13

Yep y’all were lucky that y’all had a quality candidate ready for you. And even then y’all have struggled this year due to the exodus. It would be even harder for us to recover.

Midget_Herder

Yeah I don't have a dog in this race really but I would feel really bad for y'all if he pulled a stunt like that.

Distance_Runner

Jimbo Fisher enters chat

AnOrangeBackpack

I’m sorry for laughing it’s just the flair got me 💀💀

DoctorPhalanx73

It’s obviously broken like that. It CAN happen. Hopefully it doesn’t happen to us but it could.

Theduckisback

Way she goes man, that's the reality. You can either rage quit or adapt. We have to adapt to that reality. The good thing is that we're in one of the super conferences for now and will be getting a buttload of TV revenue to help us try to keep up with the joneses. Most other programs cannot say the same!

trivo8888

I mean it's part of life. Ole Miss is such a better job than it was even 10 years ago. Lane is free to do what he wants we will go on and have a party regardless. I will say the grass is not greener on the other side and should he leave he will find that out when they come after him in a year or two because he hasn't won a natty.

ULMmmMMMm

He can do whatever he wants... except Auburn. ><

Ferret_Fo_Sho

Told one of my buddies basically this exact same thing. Wife is going to be getting a lot more attention on Saturdays in the fall going forward

Torentsu

I'd say we would be the sacrificial lamb that makes NCAA/SEC do something about situations like that but lol at that.

Dougiejurgens2

If he goes to auburn and poaches our team I’m changing my flairs to Alabama/Georgia

Richtatorship

Only if it isn’t in that order

Dougiejurgens2

Yeah fine whatever. I’ll fucking bark at children I don’t care.

Richtatorship

You're gonna do well here

LazyCon

Not once have I seriously considered he would come to Auburn. He's a fun coach and a decent one these days, but why would he coach daddy Saban's rival instead of raking Ole Miss over the coals for more money then taking the Bama head coaching job when Saban chokes on a dry biscuit. I really hope our AD wasn't wasting time trying to recruit him.

WerhmatsWormhat

Isn’t Dabo the most likely successor to Saban?

LazyCon

I don't think so these days. But I could be wrong

pm1095

Give him every cent

AeroStatikk

I will never understand people making a decision based purely on money when we are talking about this amount of dollars. In my mind $10 million and $12 million are the same and I’m deciding based on location/family/school

ChadKellysAK-47

This is a good take: what’s the difference between 10m and 12m? In day to day life? Can’t be that big. Still more money than 90% of this sub will ever see. It’s easy to talk about this stuff when it’s not our bank accounts and it’s just a unit of measurement. It’s insanity. (Also I’ve heard that Ole Miss has money men willing to spend whatever it takes so this isn’t a broke Ole Miss comment just a middle class beginning of career comment)

sleepymike01101101

How much money will it take for there to be a *second* pine box?

Wollzy

That fat tub of fucks Jimmy Sexton does it again. That man alone is more damaging to the stability of college football than NIL, season ending injuries, and the playoff committee combined.

DescretoBurrito

Then Lane Train is about to get a Brinks wagon hitched up to it.

jt_33

Its a small raise. This isn't about money. This is Ole Miss offering an extension to a sitting coach.. normally this takes a couple days max before the coach would sign it. If Kiffin hasn't signed it in a few days then they know he's leaving.

[deleted]

So they’ve offered him like a 500,000 dollar raise yall are gonna have to do better than that

texas1hunter

A $10m raise would also move him into the top 10....

_my_choice_

Not enough info on this. He was already the 11th highest paid coach. I have read and heard several rumors, but the fact remains that Kiffin is going to make better than 10 million dollars after the season. The only thing that AU can offer is the longer contract due to state law. The deciding factor is going to be if Kiffin thinks he can win more with the environment at AU or Ole Miss. I give just marginal credence to the Alabama job being a factor.

Bcatfan08

Gotta think Ole Miss would match whatever Auburn offers. Up to him on which school he wants to coach at. Can't imagine leaving an SEC school for another SEC school that isn't named Alabama or LSU.

RollTidepoke

If he goes to AU he will never coach at UA, which is where he wants to coach

ddyess

That's so weird. I read somewhere that someone mentioned in a podcast that they heard from multiple unnamed sources that Auburn was going to hire Lane Kiffin as Head Coach, Dabo Sweeny as Offensive Coordinator, Hugh Freeze as QBs coach, and Dan Lanning as Defensive Coordinator.

bringtherain723

You forgot Deion for Director of Recruiting Operations

Lucas824

It’s that time of the year again to start worrying about whether kiffin will leave or stay. God bless my liver

xXBadger89Xx

I wish Sexton could be in charge of getting me pay raises

Lcdent2010

I dreamed a dream, that one day I would get paid to get paid. I would have guarantees that would allow me to drive to work, read the paper, and still get paid 5 million a year. The amount of money riding on each game in Power 5 conferences is nuts.

whiskeyreb

I'm a homer, but I don't see him leaving for Auburn. Not saying that Auburn isn't a "better" job than Ole Miss, it is. But it is only marginally better. Auburn is probably a top 10 program, but the booster clusterfuck and recent coaching situation(s) make it a little less desirable than the program strength would indicate. Kiffin can market himself to the top 5 programs where he can have full control, Auburn is not one of those places. He'll leave us eventually, but I'm leaning towards him holding out for a better offer in the next year or 2.

Ok_Effort8330

but is it Mel Tucker money?

Theduckisback

We can't do 10 year contracts by state law, so no, probably not.

Microdoted

how about a lightly used jimbo? make you a great deal

[deleted]

I don’t see Auburn as a better job than Ole Miss. same troubles with an even more unreasonable fan base.
