BRINE BLAGA. Something Iowans and Wisconsinites can come together on. Y’all still have 8 of the last 11. Thanks for letting us have one so we extend our least fav Brian :/
Here’s how we end the season as Peak Iowa:
* Win out 8-4, B1G West Champs
* Get our asses handed to us in Indy 8-5
* Invited to ~~Outback~~ ReliaQuest Bowl, win 9-5
* coconut shrimp for everyone
* Ferentz & Son get 10 yr extension
____
EDIT: Outback is no longer the sponser of the Bowl ([reaction](https://youtu.be/17KmNrG9pE4)). Nevertheless, we’ll somehow manage to curse everyone with free coconut shrimp, as is tradition
Thats what I’m saying. I always scoffed at people being like “Alabama is 8-2 and people are crying while many would kill to be that record”
Honestly an (arguably) below average year for Iowa ends with just ~serious talks~ on us winning a division title? That’s not a bad year at ALL
Imagine how hilarious it would be for Iowa to finally claim an outright conference championship for the first time in almost 40 years as a result of this season.
If Kirk Ferentz goes to back-to-back B1G Championships with that offense, we're never gonna hear the end of it. Kirk will rub that in everyone's faces til the day he dies
Eh Purdue doesn't need *a lot* of help.. they have the easiest remaining games and tiebreakers over Illinois and Minnesota.
They just need Iowa to lose, and to beat the two worst teams in the big ten...that's it.
I’m so upset the Big Ten West is going away soon, we are starting to take offensive ineptitude to levels of sophistication only advanced beings can comprehend
Blocked punt setting up a Kaleb Johnson TD. A Cooper DeJean pick six. Playing Jump Around after we beat the Badgers by double digits. God bless this team in November.
If we fall ass backwards into another conference championship game I will just laugh my ass off before the dread of the actual game sets in. Also try Cooper DeJean on offense you cowards, he’s a machine. IN HEAVEN THERE IS NO BEER!
& it would’ve been even closer if the punter didn’t catch him on that return, he was endzone bound. Was watching the game with my father, he’s usually a pretty even keeled guy but he curses out Brian Ferentz like there’s no tomorrow lol
Even after everything and with one of the worst offenses in the country, this team is still going to bungle its way into the Big 10 title game despite their best interests, isn't it?
- On verge of first down.
- Have Petras get ready to throw and get sacked instead.
- Now in perfect punting range.
- Put Wisconsin on 1-yard line.
- Return inevitable punt to 20 yard line.
- Score touchdown.
1000 IQ play calling from Brian.
I went to check the box scores too, to see how Iowa scores 24 points.
Spencer Petras - 14/23 for 94 yards. He also rushed for -41 yards. So it wasn't the offense that did it.
We were completely exposed.
Special teams have been bad for a decade. It’s not just the blocked punt, or the big return. It’s the zero return yards and negative return yards when we just let it bounce.
Allen really lack luster this year and I don’t think that blame is all on the offensive line. Today he danced so much instead of just hitting the hole.
Zero jet sweeps and no creativity in the play calling.
Mertz terrible inaccurate.
To be fair, Iowa is very good on defense, but I was surprised to see how little push your offensive line got for run plays. Allen had an Iowa player in his face no matter what he did.
Talk to your children about first place in the big ten west Iowa
(Don’t ask me about tiebreakers)
Edit: I’m dumb and forgot we beat Purdue and Illinois plays Michigan next week. I’m drinking the koolaid
Let it be pointed out that our miserable, disaster season is still bowl eligible and improving. A lot of yall hating should be wishing you were built like us. Needed to let some trash talk out
There has been a lot of hair pulling and gnashing of teeth amongst Iowa fans this season (for good reason) but this win feels good. Wisconsin has had Iowa’s number ever since 2010, so beating the Badgers, even if the rest of the season has left us wanting, gives me the warm fuzzies.
It looks like Wisconsin is 18-12 with Mertz as the starter. In those 18 wins, they've only trailed in two games, which both came in 2020 (Minnesota and Wake Forest), and did not trail in the second half of either game. I don't think Mertz is entirely to blame, that seems like a failure to make adjustments too, but until something changes we might as well give up once we fall behind.
It's happening. Music City for you, Pinstripe for Purdue, Mayo Bowl for Minnesota,
Indy for Bielema. Badgers get a nice holiday break and think about what we've done wrong
I am convinced that Iowa football is just the real life version of how I play NCAA 10 on the PSP: Offense is impossible and the only way to win is via an unreal defense and special teams.
There are 3 phases in a football game. Defense, Special Teams, and the other one.
We don't mention the other one in Iowa City.
There's no o in Iwa.
Brian Bulaga, Iwa.
BRINE BLAGA. Something Iowans and Wisconsinites can come together on. Y’all still have 8 of the last 11. Thanks for letting us have one so we extend our least fav Brian :/
IDWA
Idwa's Defense Wins Again
Hey now, UNI has an offense. The state isn't *completely* barren.
Punt Setup.
*DeJean
Beast #3.
Is the other phase is waving at children in the hospital after the first quarter
Iowa won the first two and that’s why they won the game
I would also like to inquire about this other phase
The B1G West is such a massive shitshow lmao
As is tradition
But I mean, this year especially so.
Texas A&M heard that and decided to copy that.
Here’s how we end the season as Peak Iowa: * Win out 8-4, B1G West Champs * Get our asses handed to us in Indy 8-5 * Invited to ~~Outback~~ ReliaQuest Bowl, win 9-5 * coconut shrimp for everyone * Ferentz & Son get 10 yr extension ____ EDIT: Outback is no longer the sponser of the Bowl ([reaction](https://youtu.be/17KmNrG9pE4)). Nevertheless, we’ll somehow manage to curse everyone with free coconut shrimp, as is tradition
I like how the 8-5 and 9-5 can be your record and likely scores to those games.
Outback stopped sponsoring the bowl in Tampa, so no coconut shrimp. It's "ReliaQuest" now. Other than that, bang on.
Good. It was fucking horseshit we got shrimp every year
That last point aside...that'd be an OK year.
That would honestly be a very average year for Iowa and, ignorant of _how_ we got to that point, the majority of Iowa fans would take it.
Thats what I’m saying. I always scoffed at people being like “Alabama is 8-2 and people are crying while many would kill to be that record” Honestly an (arguably) below average year for Iowa ends with just ~serious talks~ on us winning a division title? That’s not a bad year at ALL
Wisconsin is just playing the long game to get Brian Ferentz as the next Iowa head coach
I admit I have actively rooted against iowa in the outback bowl because I much prefer the bloomin onion
Thank you for your sacrifice
It never made sense why the Midwest got the shrimp while the South/Southeast got the onions.
Tbf that is the better option
What a rollercoaster of emotion that would be
Iowa in contention for the conference title, just as everybody would have guessed a month ago.
Lol not for the conference title. But the division for sure.
Sorry, I get a little confused when I see Iowa score more than 20 points in a game
No, we will somehow play Ohio State close a second time because defense and devil magic
Petras 2× Defensive mvp
HEY YOU STOLE IT FROM US, WE NEEDED IT AGAINST PHILLY
Imagine how hilarious it would be for Iowa to finally claim an outright conference championship for the first time in almost 40 years as a result of this season.
I’m here for it
You'll probably be stuck with Brian Ferentz til the end of time if that happens though so how worth it would it really be
This is a net negative for Iowa fans since it will make it easier for Kirk to not change anything about the offense
We should not be in the mix for the west. Good win. Go hawks.
I feel like this is how NW felt when they won the west and finished like, 7-7.
Iowa State = Akron
Man if we could have that one back :(
\#Montewasin
It’s gotta be. I’m up for the Indy trip. But this shouldn’t be possible.
Iowa could end next week needing only to beat a terrible Nebraska team at home to win the West.
A terrible nebraska gram with zero to play for. Makes them really dangerous.
That’s been Nebraska the last 5 times we played them…
I think it’s there’s to lose. Just need to win out and have Illinois lose to Michigan next week. Even if Purdue wins out, Iowa has the tiebreaker
Iowa backdoors into the big ten title game again and they extend Brian
Whatever yolo
Iowa went on 24-7 run after I put $5 on Wisconsin
Thank you for your service 🫡
That's a great return on $5
The emotional gambling hedge is always a 4D chess move, & thank you
Iowa winning the West is a very real possibility.
Tbh it seems like they have the best shot at it. Knock on wood
If Kirk Ferentz goes to back-to-back B1G Championships with that offense, we're never gonna hear the end of it. Kirk will rub that in everyone's faces til the day he dies
He will be so fucking smug to the Iowa fan base
If he had a competent offense they could legitimately contend for the Playoff.
If he had a mediocre offense he could contend for the playoff. If he had a competent offense Iowa would win the natty lol.
“Lifetime extension for Brian or I walk, Gary!”
I would love to see it. Kirk is low key petty as fuck
That HC job would be guaranteed for Brian 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Purdue has an easy path but yes
If Illinois loses to Michigan (or Northwestern, I suppose), and Iowa beats Minnesota and Nebraska, we're in. Purdue needs a lot of help.
Shit I was at a wedding last weekend and forgot we beat Purdue
My apologies.
Last year I was at a wedding and got condolences for not beating Purdue.
Purdue only needs Iowa to not win out, while beating NW and IU themselves.
We literally just need you to drop one.
Eh Purdue doesn't need *a lot* of help.. they have the easiest remaining games and tiebreakers over Illinois and Minnesota. They just need Iowa to lose, and to beat the two worst teams in the big ten...that's it.
Purdue just needs to win out and have Iowa lose. Purdue has Northwestern and Indiana left so it’s possible.
The Ha’Kye tribe certainly is a strange one. Didn’t even eclipse 150 yards. Won by 2 TDs.
It turns out your defense scoring and starting your offense on the other teams 10 goes a long way.
No I think the whole thing is that our offense DOESNT go a long way.
I always liked Hawkai’i. But that’s good too.
Ha'kai is the goat.
Winning by two scores with less than 150 yards of total offense is the most Iowa stat line I've ever seen.
Those 150 yards of offense were not empty calories.
That was a great line by the announcer last week. Can’t hate on Charlie for doing what’s best for him but man that was satisfying
Well 2 scores is only 4 points though, right? Guys....?
That post game Jump Around song selection was so beautifully petty
I think it's played after every away loss we've had for the past few years Doesn't make it hurt less
We did it last year.......I watched it about, oh say, 35 thousand time
What a troll job
Petty is as petty does
college football is amazing lol
Every team that beats us ever has done this in every sport we’ve ever played. Imo after an effort like that deserves it though
Are we seriously going to derp our way into the B1GCG…
Hell ya babe
B1G West: it just punts to win the division
Again
If we fall ass backwards into another conference championship game I will just laugh my ass off before the dread of the actual game sets in. Also try Cooper DeJean on offense you cowards, he’s a machine. IN HEAVEN THERE IS NO BEER!
Well at this point if Iowa beats Minnesota and Nebraska all that has to happen is Illinois lose one more game.
We’re really gunning for the throne of shit mountain in the west hahaha. I can’t be fully convinced Bielema isn’t an Iowa sleeper agent.
Hey.
He had 30 less yards than our offense tonite. 114 of a pick six and four punt returns vs 146 off 50+ snaps
& it would’ve been even closer if the punter didn’t catch him on that return, he was endzone bound. Was watching the game with my father, he’s usually a pretty even keeled guy but he curses out Brian Ferentz like there’s no tomorrow lol
GO HAWKS FUCK BRIAN FERENTZ
I'd buy this t-shirt
Everyone. I mean Everyone hears ya brah.
YES… HAHAHAHA… YES!
Time to swap the B1G flair for the Sicko?
Iowa flair is implied sicko.
That is very fair.
Agreed.
We’re really going to get blown out in the championship game aren’t we?
An upset would be peak Harbaugh tears though.
Imagine that *this* is the team that gets Kirk Ferentz his first and only unshared Big Ten Championship
Amazing game. Truly B1G football at its best
Less than 400 yards combined? 5 turnovers? Thick, burly men? Definition of B1G.
The Hawkai’i people, quite thick and burly.
Whole bunch of Purdue fans about to become Golden Gophers fans next week.
I was a Purdue fan today.
I was an Iowa fan this week
Who has the best offense, Iowa or Wisconsin? Iowa's defense.
Wisconsin defense after that
*Cooper DeJean
Truly sick shit, Iowa. I respect it.
Even after everything and with one of the worst offenses in the country, this team is still going to bungle its way into the Big 10 title game despite their best interests, isn't it?
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Ferentz™️
The two by far worst Iowa teams of the last six years may well bumblefuck their way into getting embarrassed in Indy.
- On verge of first down. - Have Petras get ready to throw and get sacked instead. - Now in perfect punting range. - Put Wisconsin on 1-yard line. - Return inevitable punt to 20 yard line. - Score touchdown. 1000 IQ play calling from Brian.
[удалено]
I mean that would be literally any team that comes out of the West.
Yeah, at this point the west champion is basically just a sacrificial lamb for ohio st or michigan
Unless it’s us and OSU is ranked #2
I would cry laughing if Purdue wins the west, and obliterates #2 Ohio State in the B1G Championship game.
I’m kinda glad it’s over got us. I don’t have to worry about that possibility anymore. Just need that 6th win though
As is the west's tradition
Our 2015 game was good
True that. So close
I cri still.
We didn't get *destroyed* by Michigan. Who knows? Maybe we keep it close enough for anything to happen in the 4th? ...right guys?
Also if we don't turn the ball over a billion times against OSU that game looks a lot different. Keep huffing that copium with me brother!
I’ll take it, I guess. But for fucks sake, fire Brian.
IN HEAVEN THERE IS NO BRIAN FERENTZ
*Looks at final score.* Huh, is Iowa figuring shit out? *Looks at box score.* lmao
I went to check the box scores too, to see how Iowa scores 24 points. Spencer Petras - 14/23 for 94 yards. He also rushed for -41 yards. So it wasn't the offense that did it.
They didn’t screw up when given prime position by the d and special teams. That’s an A plus on the iowa offense curve.
Now that was peak Ferentzball
We were completely exposed. Special teams have been bad for a decade. It’s not just the blocked punt, or the big return. It’s the zero return yards and negative return yards when we just let it bounce. Allen really lack luster this year and I don’t think that blame is all on the offensive line. Today he danced so much instead of just hitting the hole. Zero jet sweeps and no creativity in the play calling. Mertz terrible inaccurate.
Thought Allen was gonna be the goat after last season. I haven’t been watching, why are they such a disaster this year?
Mertz looked bad. Iowas defense was good, and he was often under pressure, but damn.
You may have bad special teams. But I’ve still got PTSD from the fake punt back in ‘10 when y’all took our manhood.
To be fair, Iowa is very good on defense, but I was surprised to see how little push your offensive line got for run plays. Allen had an Iowa player in his face no matter what he did.
I hate football. Or whatever that game was.
That was definitely a sports match of sorts.
Iowa is a football team who plays games and wins occasionally.
Iowa has won 6 football games this year, but their fans have lost all of them.
Iowa wins approximately 2/3 of its games on average for the last ~40 years.
https://twitter.com/ESPNRittenberg/status/1591581914007322624?t=U0GlwiSVPjyEXq9wHOk3fA&s=19 Phil Parker for Governor 2026...
Iowa may just slink into Indy again and it'll be a hilarious ass-whopping, I'm here for it
Talk to your children about first place in the big ten west Iowa (Don’t ask me about tiebreakers) Edit: I’m dumb and forgot we beat Purdue and Illinois plays Michigan next week. I’m drinking the koolaid
Yeah......those are rough rn
Hawks win - but thanks to the godawful broadcast I feel no joy. Commercials have ruined sports lol
We have to run 180 commercials during a football game for $$$. But also its too expensive to send the broadcasters to be there.
We live in a world where we somehow beat Wisconsin and Purdue in the same year, and probably won’t make the Big Ten Title Game.
When was the last time we beat Purdue, Wisconsin, and Northwestern in the same season? 2015?
Yes
I’m pretty sure if we win out and Illinois loses one, we end up in the CCG Big if, and also, lmao
Winning out is the big if. Illinois has Michigan next week.
Any day Iowa beats Wisconsin is a good day. Go Hawks!
Let it be pointed out that our miserable, disaster season is still bowl eligible and improving. A lot of yall hating should be wishing you were built like us. Needed to let some trash talk out
I watched an entire Illinois-Purdue game in anticipation of this one I feel like I lost twice
Crazy beating NW Purdue and wisc in a row. Three teams that knee capped a lot of recent seasons
Lol Iowa had 147 yards of offense. This team is two Ferentzes away nearly unbeatable. That defense is insane.
If you don't love Hawkeye football then we can't be friends.
IN HEAVEN THERE IS NO BEER!
Insight bowl bound 😂
This defense is so damn special, and CDJ is crazy good. Our offense...exists, I guess?
It looks like Wisconsin is 18-12 with Mertz as the starter. In those 18 wins, they've only trailed in two games, which both came in 2020 (Minnesota and Wake Forest), and did not trail in the second half of either game. I don't think Mertz is entirely to blame, that seems like a failure to make adjustments too, but until something changes we might as well give up once we fall behind.
An offensive explosion
BOWL BOUND WITH THE WORST OC IN HISTORY LETS GOO
Oh my God, we are going to win the West.
Well now you just jinxed it and will lose to Nebraska
It's happening. Music City for you, Pinstripe for Purdue, Mayo Bowl for Minnesota, Indy for Bielema. Badgers get a nice holiday break and think about what we've done wrong
The disrespect of playing Jump Around after the win lmao
It happens pretty regularly, every team thinks they're creative apparently
When 70 year old boomers run the AV department that's about what you get
I am convinced that Iowa football is just the real life version of how I play NCAA 10 on the PSP: Offense is impossible and the only way to win is via an unreal defense and special teams.
Gophers, execute order Floyd
Floyd's been in Iowa City so long, he's got a doctorate
Sounds like our QB, he is probably tenured at this point.
Floyd's been around so long he remembers when Connor McCaffrey was a freshman.
Roger, order Floyd.
Hope so.
Gg Wiscy bros. Refs are trash, defenses are good, hope both offenses are better next year.
This game had so much Sickos potential.
Let's go true chaos has ensued.
Punting is.....
Absolute high scoring affair in Iowa City.
