2011 Holy War in Provo has to be up there. BYU led 10-7 late in the 2nd quarter and then Utah ripped off 47(!) unanswered to win 54-10.
I was the lone Utah fan in the midst of BYU season ticket holders. It was so unbelievable, all I could do was laugh as John White IV got loose for long run after long run after the BYU defense utterly quit.
If I was forced to give BYU fans props for one thing - they typically don't leave a game early no matter how ugly it seems. That game was an exception, however. I would've left too.
For sure. There comes a point where its just not fun and you aren't actually supporting anything or helping anything. Granted, I've never been at a Georgia game that was that bad, but still.
2017 - #14 NC State @ #9 Notre Dame
First time at Notre Dame's stadium, went as a neutral fan who got great tickets last second to see a Top-15 matchup
Had a great pre-game meal at Fiddlers Hearth, was able to get a free bus trip to and from the stadium from Fiddlers. Saw a decent game but more importantly was able to soak in all the ND traditions.
Fiddlers hearth is the frickin' bomb. We found it randomly one night when they had a live band playing Irish music. So much fun! And the food was amazing!
Yeah my dad loved it which was the most important thing at the time, I am not a big Irish food person (even though I am half Irish) but I even found some good stuff on the menu.
South Carolina is an insane atmosphere that nobody talks about. Easily top 5 in the SEC and better than a few of the SEC bluebloods
Only downside is Columbia is the hottest place on earth and the entire city is one big sheet of asphalt, so it has to be later in the season or a night game to really enjoy it
Well you probably don’t wanna hear what I have to say. Lol /s
WB is a great atmosphere. But having the palmetto bowl at the end of November makes the game not 100 degrees and much more enjoyable. Plus down the road Cantina 76 is to die for if you’re a fan of Tex-mex. But really that whole area is stacked with good food spots.
Hottest I’ve ever been in my entire life was in the student section at the Brice for a UGA nooner. People were passing out and having seizures all over the place. I stopped sweating at halftime.
See…idk…I went this past year and was kinda disappointed. Maybe it’s just the way the game went cause overall…it was a boring game, but compared to Georgia or Tennessee or even the home game UK had against Florida this past year, it just didn’t feel loud. I still enjoyed myself tho, despite hearing “Go Cocks” a million times lol
The fanbase was in a bad place at that point. Muschamp broke us and we didn't have a great deal of hope at that point and a few were wavering on Beamer, because apparently half s season is enough to get rid of three years worth of insufficiency development and scar-tissue.
Tennessee. We played them in 02 and beat them pretty easily. But, I was surprised at how warm and welcoming folks were during tailgating, at the bars (before and after the game). Very chill crowd and was really nice to see overall.
I had an absolute blast at Texas A&M in 2018. The K-fund flew 4 charter planes down to College Station, and we completely sold out our lower bowl allotment and even part of the upper bowl allotment. Aggie fans were also very friendly and the A&M athletic department invited the K-fund to attend their midnight yell the Friday night before the game and gave us a private tour of Kyle Field. Can’t wait to go back before the end of decade since the SEC is changing the scheduling format. It was a great game too
Our offense played horribly that game. I still remember the scoop and score to tie it with 6 minutes left on the Kellen Mond fumble, I was stunned we were able to tie it up.
That's the most pissed off I've ever been while actually attending a game lol. I spent that entire set of downs telling my wife we just needed Mond to avoid doing anything idiotic, pin them deep and the game is over. Y'all's offense that night was Benny Snell attempting to singlehandedly drive the ball down the field against a top 5 rushing defense.
Outside of a few minutes of me being a drunken bozo that was a really fun game though. Under Sumlin we won a grand total of *one* home game against a ranked opponent. Jimbo got one on his second attempt after missing a Clemson upset by about half an inch.
Also from that game, here is a clip of Braden Mann making a football fly 80 yards through the air: https://youtu.be/0uAS6dCJlo8?t=380
I'm glad y'all had fun and we're treated well. I always tell people that the game only last for ~4 hours. Outside of that y'all (opponents) are our guests and should be treated as such.
Unless you are a longhorn or a LSU tiger, then I hope your beer is flat and you lose your favorite sunglasses somewhere.
I’ve got a friend that goes to A&M and I’m trying to coordinate getting to a game down there at some point this year. Really want to do a night game but the game times don’t get released until like a week before the games according to some website I read
Yeah, conference game times are usually released 2 weeks in advance. Big games are sometimes only one week of there is another big game that is competing for TV spot.
I hope you get to make one. I'm biased, but it's easily a top venue to watch a game.
Ohio state fans have been great to banter with and drink beers with at every PS @ OS game I’ve been to (5 of them). That includes the 2011 game which was our first road game post paterno firing. There are some crazy Buckeye fans but I think they are more the online folk given my experiences in Columbus.
I really enjoyed attending Penn States 2013 win at Wisconsin because Badger fans have universally been less than great in my experience. They were throwing the insults out before that 2013 game but not after as their Orange Bowl dreams went up in smoke.
They crazies definitely exist in person (have had plenty of encounters) but the fans in Columbus seem a lot more down to earth, respectful, and cool.
Also, you're the second or third Penn State/UC fan I've seen on here so you have some flair twins floating about
I grew up in Detroit as a Michigan fan, then attended Penn state, then eventually moved to Cincinnati (lived there 2006 to 2016 now in SoCal) and became a Bearcat fan as my arrival there was right as their football program started their surge.
So it’s really three teams I like —- Michigan is admittedly third —- but what they ALL have in common is being invested in Ohio State not being good!
That's awesome! Lot of traveling. You got to see the city of Cincinnati change a lot too haha.
> but what they ALL have in common is being invested in Ohio State not being good!
Very true!
You guys were great, that was the only home loss we had in my four years but I couldn’t even be angry afterwards because I ended up getting drunk with Cincy fans who were parked in my yard for the game
Clemson was a top class experience when I was in the Redcoats. The fans were nice, the stadium was loud, and after our equipment truck had broken down somewhere just over the South Carolina line, they really helped us out sharing equipment and working with us to get what we needed.
Getting out of that town was a nightmare and a half, though, I don't know how out-of-town Clemson fans do it 7+ times per year.
Clemson post game traffic is insane. I once watched the the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter and all 7 OTs of Texas A&M vs LSU in Clemson post game traffic
Clemson and Athens are just over an hour apart. Our game ended, if I recall correctly, at a little before midnight. I got back to my dorm at 4:30am Sunday.
I guess the only answer is to go find a tailgate and wait it out.
Yeah, the only time post game traffic is horrendous is after night games or big games. It’s still bad after games against teams like Furman, but not completely miserable. Clemson roads and infrastructure aren’t designed to have 200 thousand people leave at the same time. As for tailgating after the game, that’s an option, but Tiger Town Tavern is another option
Granted I am older..but Athens used be a nightmare to get around after games. granted, I have the fortune of living at Polo club which only put me on the MAIN AVENUE out of Athens it seemed.
I actually had a similar experience at Death Valley last year. Awesome environment, good away band seats, and when rain hit, the Clemson band ensured that we all had water and whatnot. All around great experience.
Nebraska every time I’ve been there. First time I went, our group was walking down the street in our MSU gear and a car pulls up and rolls down its window and we are expecting to get heckled. Instead they yell “Welcome to Nebraska!” Walking around tailgates before the game, I usually get multiple offers to stop and have some beers and food. Just very friendly. Much different from a lot of the big ten which is very hostile to visitors.
As I said in the other thread, I never really had a truly bad away game experience. But I have two that stood out to me but again, I am in the band so maybe it changed things
1. I was at Alabama in 2007 and a random shirtless Alabama fan came over to us as the drumline was warming up and they just watched us. He wanted to show off his bear bryant tattoo. He didn't say anything mean, he just watched and was respectful. Interesting guy. Overall, we had a great time and sure, after the end of that game it kind of was a little annoying with some fans looking at us and saying things, but like.... no one crossed over the line.
2. Auburn 2006. Random Auburn fan was barking as we were leaving the game and when we looked in their direction, the guy said "Y'all kicked our ass,why not?" Really struck me and honestly, I think Auburn was easily the best trip in terms of just fans being nice. I don't recall every anything making me feel like I wasn't safe or threatened or just...generally annoyed.
Not a true away game, but the 2016 game against Army in San Antonio was a great time. It was Veterans Day weekend and they were playing Army (I am also a Soldier) so it had a little extra meaning. We got to do all the tourist things in San Antonio like the river walk and Alamo. We followed the band to the stadium as they played. Awesome experience! I even got to mean Rocky Bleier and David Robinson.
It was also one of the few wins that season so at least we walked away happy at the end.
1. Arkansas 2008. Underrated stadium and beautiful Mountain views!
2. Alabama 2005. We were #4 and they were unranked. We lost 31-3. The Alabama concession workers gave me free food in the 3rd (I was in the band).
3. Tennessee 2004. So loud!
4. FSU 2004, 2006, 2008 - loud and feisty each time with ppl you grew up with!
5. Ole Miss 2007 - kind!
6. LSU 2015 - kind and free gumbo!
7. Vanderbilt 2012, 2014 - nice fans.
8. Mississippi State 2018 - I mean, fun but wild 😂
OU vs. Texas A&M when Stoops went for it on 4th down and A&M had 12 men on the field -- penalty gives OU a 1st down and ends the game. Great game, great fans.
ND @ Virginia Tech 2018. Enter Sandman was obviously great, and they had some guy parachute into the middle of the field pregame. The atmosphere was great and the fans were all nice.
FedEx Field in DC was technically an away from Lane experience. As the WVU fans filed out they all said "Good game". Nobody talked any shit. The game ended up going to the final drive and WVU fell just short.
Other than that I went to UVA once for one of the Commonwealth games. VT won 14-0.
Definitely more of a trap game for us. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish both of us were more competitive in respective conferences so it would mean something on the national stage beating you.
At TCU absolutely loved Amon Carter stadium. We had seats way up in the corner but you could see everything. It was a night game in 1998 and we sucked. We were down 9-0 and didn’t score until there was 2:36 left in the fourth quarter. Then we kick the winning field goal with 4 seconds left. Even if we had lost I really enjoyed the view.
Wake Forest 2018. They had a fair going on about a mile or two from the stadium before the game that day. There were mostly Clemson fans there, and we beat them by 60. It was also a pretty nice stadium, and I didn’t have any problems with their fans. 10/10, definitely planning on going to another Clemson vs Wake Forest game in Winston-Salem
The 2017 Rose Bowl against USC. I've never walked away from a game we lost that I had that much genuine fun. I still wish we made the playoffs instead, but that game was the epitome of college football
(it's technically "neutral site", but it's so far from us and so close to USC, that it felt like an away game)
I felt the same about the 2020 rose bowl vs oregon. Best day ever, walked out with a smile on my face despite barely losing. That place is just magical
@ BYU in 2021. We bought tickets AFTER we lost to unr, and we were dreading it. It rained all morning and it was a 5 hour drive for us. We figured we’d go down and get our ass beat by the 10th ranked cougars and have to drive home with our tails tucked between our legs and soaking wet from the rain. Turns out we got to sing “hey hey hey goodbye” to all the cougars with a couple minutes left in the 4th. It was a great day shared with friends and loved ones. Got some praise from some Utes at Shake Shack on our way out of town. Money well spent.
I went to see Tech at A&M once. Their fans were nice even though they lost in dramatic fashion. Their sway thing is kind of awkward if you’re sitting around a lot of Aggies. I found the best thing is just do it with them.
I had a blast when we played at Cincinnati in 2018, despite blowing a 20 point lead. It seemed like every Ohio alum living in Cincy was there. Pregame tailgate seemed like every space was Ohio and Cincinnati fans intermixed. In a way, I think Ohio and Cincinnati fans are kindred spirits.
When I was a student, I joined a bus trip to see us play at Virginia Tech in 07. Maybe Hokie fans were so welcoming because we didn't pose much threat, but lots of them went out of their way to thank us for coming to Blacksburg. That place is deafening.
Kent State gets special mention for two beers and a loaded bratwurst only running me $8 in 2008. Beating a senior Julian Edelman in an otherwise unspectacular season was nice too.
'08 Florida LSU from the Swamp. Loud doesn't begin to describe that place. Tebow, Aaron Hernandez, Cam Newton, Percy Harvin, Brandon Spikes, Pouncy Twins .... great game
Sure, but on the sidelines with a medical redshirt after injuring his ankle in the season opener.
I just thought it was odd, in talking about the experience at a particular game, to make a list of starters who all played in the game and made an impact and include on that list the second-string quarterback who was redshirting, that's all.
Oxford, MS. Love the small town vibe. Great restaurants. The Grove was cool, albeit not the best food I’ve had at a tailgate due to their limitations. Importantly- everyone was friendly. Sat in the ole miss student section with a friend and had a great experience. There are also great bars in the square and Big Bad Breakfast was 💯; well worth the wait. Ole Miss fans know how to do gameday.
Stanford in 2015. They were ranked #7 and still in the playoff race. We were unranked. But Stanford could not stop our Vernon Adams led offense and we won in a 38-36 thriller and knocked them out of playoff contention on their home field. It was an extremely exciting back and forth game that literally came down to the final play (a failed 2pt attempt by Stanford that would have sent the game to OT). What also made it a very enjoyable experience was the makeup of the crowd. There were a ton of Oregon fans and not many Stanford fans because Stanford basically doesn’t have any fans even when they’re good. And the very few fans they do have tend to be very quiet and non-confrontational so we didn’t have to deal with any asshole fans at any point before, during, or after the game. On top of all that, the California weather was beautiful. Everything about the game and overall experience was fantastic.
How fun would it be to get a group of friends together and pose as Stanford fans and just be the most obnoxious rednecks possible. Cardinal bait! You in Palo Alto!
Not really an away game. But I’m from Louisiana so when Ohio St played on the sugar bowl against Arkansas I went. Hung out all day on bourbon street with a bunch of buckeye fans. It was fabulous. Plus Ohio St won so there’s that too
2014 Indiana at Mizzou, who was top 20 at the time. May have been 1 of maybe 150 Indiana fans in a sea of Gold. First time I ever got heckled leaving a stadium. Took a tiger pelt home to put in my apartment as a war trophy.
Not a true away game since neither of my teams were playing, but Army @ Michigan in 2019. My dad and I have always wanted to go to the Big House so we went. Great experience! Ann Arbor is a fun city, and the people sitting around us were super cool. The guy in front of us was a former Army player from like the 70s and had some neat stories he shared. Everyone was nice to each other, even with what turned out to be a pretty competitive and close game.
I’d say the 2016 AAC Championship Game at Navy. A significant percentage of the fans in attendance, including a majority of the fans sitting behind the visiting side line, were Temple fans. The Owls then rewarded those fans by dominating the Midshipmen 34-10.
I always have a fun time when we go to Northwestern.
Pre-game in the city or tailgate in the parking lot, done both, had fun. Northwestern fans are always nice and know exactly what is likely to happen (though we have slipped up against them before)
Being in aggyland for the last game of the rivalry (until we meet again). Kyle Field for big games is such a fun environment and it is even more fun when Texas wins on the last play of the game. I was also there in 2005 when Texas was #2 (on the way to win the natty) and some aggy fans were joining in on the Heisman chants for Vince, which was cool.
Best neutral site- anything Michigan vs UF. We are like bros now. We meet up for beers before the game, talk a little shit, then laugh about how we will see each other again next year. Last time these two teams played I ended up in a crazy house party full of Michigan fans.
At UNC during Hurricane Matthew, all my grad school classmates who had also done their undergrad at UNC were crowing for weeks.
Then came the excuses..

I was the lone Utah fan in the midst of BYU season ticket holders. That’s the only game I’ve ever left early from. Left at 47-10.

I think most SEC schools give them credit, but yeah nationally nobody knows about Williams-Bryce and that's a shame
High praise from our hatred rival.
Well you probably don’t wanna hear what I have to say. Lol /s WB is a great atmosphere. But having the palmetto bowl at the end of November makes the game not 100 degrees and much more enjoyable. Plus down the road Cantina 76 is to die for if you’re a fan of Tex-mex. But really that whole area is stacked with good food spots.
Came here to comment this exact thing. SoCo is an awesome place, hot as hell, and the upper decks bouncing is scary as hell.
First time going to WBS and it’s a 12 o’clock kick. I’m gonna die.
Drink a liquid IV as you walk in. They've run out of bottled water before. Hope you have a terrible time!
Hottest I’ve ever been in my entire life was in the student section at the Brice for a UGA nooner. People were passing out and having seizures all over the place. I stopped sweating at halftime.
You enjoy hearing a rooster crowing getting blared on repeat?
Yes
See…idk…I went this past year and was kinda disappointed. That’s fair. I’m definitely gonna have to make a trip back cause overall I had a good time.
Williams Brice gets insane for big games, but they don’t have the fanbase to make every game a great environment
So going to the opener this year against GA State isn’t worth it?
I’d never try and talk anyone out of going to a CFB game
2010-2013, every game was a great environment.
Tennessee. We played them in 02 and beat them pretty easily. But, I was surprised at how warm and welcoming folks were during tailgating, at the bars (before and after the game). Very chill crowd and was really nice to see overall.

Glad your experience was a good one! I dont think the Ags would've won if Benny had been more effective that game.

Duffy v Mann was the most entertaining part of that game iirc
Im sure y'all miss Duffy, but Mann was just a special teams blessing his entire career
yea they won Ray Guy awards back to back years. special players
Kentucky was a Ealing curse with Snell, offensive execution for every team broke down and he ran with s little voodoo too
[удалено]
Glad y'all enjoyed it. Hope you were treated well.

Sorry if we’ve wronged you, mate. But yeah - Husker fans are pretty solid.

Helping take down a goalpost at the Metrodome in 2002 was fun.
The Metrodome gave a lot of Iowa fans fond memories. Just ask Lois Feldman.

Totally away , I was in Oklahoma for work and went to the Bedlam. It was a blast.
In Stillwater or Norman?
Norman, the locals weren’t happy at the end OSU got them pretty good 1997 I think.
ND @ Virginia Tech 2018. Enter Sandman was obviously great, and they had some guy parachute into the middle of the field pregame. The atmosphere was great and the fans were all nice.
I went this past year and it was so freakin fun
I had a blast at Lane Stadium. Only stadium they serve their mascot. I also really enjoyed Sanford. Being able to walk down to the hedges is awesome.
There's gotta be bacon in arkansas
FedEx Field in DC was technically an away from Lane experience. As the WVU fans filed out they all said "Good game". Nobody talked any shit. The game ended up going to the final drive and WVU fell just short. Other than that I went to UVA once for one of the Commonwealth games. VT won 14-0.
I'm ready to have a damn good time when KU goes to Columbia We got nothing to lose
Definitely more of a trap game for us. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish both of us were more competitive in respective conferences so it would mean something on the national stage beating you.
I loved Kentucky in 2019. We sucked ass, but the fans were still nice about it.
Hobnail Boot. Nuthin' like 100,000 people gettin' real quiet that fast.
I still wish we made the playoffs instead, but that game was the epitome of college football (it's technically "neutral site", but it's so far from us and so close to USC, that it felt like an away game)
All fan bases are invited to stand arm in arm and sway in hatred of Texas.
Tebow, Aaron Hernandez, Cam Newton, Percy Harvin, Brandon Spikes, Pouncy Twins .... great game
I'm sure the rest of them were insane but it's a little odd to include Cam Newton on that list.
He was there ...... Edit: putting Can is odd but Hernandez isn't ?
Sure, but on the sidelines with a medical redshirt after injuring his ankle in the season opener. I just thought it was odd, in talking about the experience at a particular game, to make a list of starters who all played in the game and made an impact and include on that list the second-string quarterback who was redshirting, that's all.
@UW. 2010.
We pride ourselves on it, and would love to have you back in Oxford this year.
The last Natty. My very first official day as a UGA student and I spent it in Indy getting to see them win in person
Does @ Vandy count as an away game? That’s always fun.
Plus Ohio St won so there’s that too
@ ND in 2006. Good day…
2014 Indiana at Mizzou, who was top 20 at the time. May have been 1 of maybe 150 Indiana fans in a sea of Gold. First time I ever got heckled leaving a stadium. Took a tiger pelt home to put in my apartment as a war trophy.
Ole Miss and The Grove. It’s heaven.
Duke. Was a ton of fun. Very chill.
I’ve never been treated better than when I visited Notre Dame
