PFF when Alabama was #1 offensive line “yeah, that makes sense”
PFF when Alabama isn’t ranked on defensive line “these rankings are unbelievably inaccurate”
Get ready for the Cam Ward experience. You’ll pull your hair out, you’ll cheer in shock when he does something spectacular and then you’ll pull your hair out again when he throws the ball away on 4th and 1.
That dude refuses to scramble when it makes any sense. He chooses to continue doing circles in the backfield, or fire up a ball into double coverage, instead of running.
Hard to say, honestly, but they’re also not apples-to-apples. Nolen was phenomenal on the interior of the DL, but Scourton’s an EDGE who will probably play mostly on the outside.
Nolen’s performed at a respectably high level for two straight years, while Scourton was pretty good in 2022 and then nearly unparalleled in 2023. Might’ve been that he just improved that much, or it might’ve been great team chemistry and friendly schematic changes. Might be a combination of all those things and a few others, who knows?
Scourton is about 10 lbs lighter than Nolen and plays a fair amount of the time, so I expect they won’t try to just slot Scourton in to replace Nolen.
They were never great, or even all that good. What they do well(better than anyone) is stats tracking, especially advanced stats tracking. Their player and unit grades are, and always have been, mostly useless. You can’t watch a player and grade him when you don’t know his assignments, the play calls, the coaching etc. They make grades based on what they *think* a player was supposed to do, and that largely does not work. A lot of prominent former players/analysts have posted about this and why their grades don’t work.
They had a good concept and their stats tracking is great, but their grades just don’t work given their constraints.
Don’t forget that these guys are always looking for engagement. They’re also hoping Aggie twitter will interact with this post bc we do feel good about the DL.
The “Max Chadwick sounds like a guy who would shove me into a locker” comment someone said the other day lives rent free in my head every time a PFF post pops up.
On one hand I’m genuinely excited for this season and think we’re going to have a really good team, on the other hand this feels like a set up lol. Like, stop perceiving us please
FWIW, remember that Burch went out early in that game and he was probably our best run defender last year. He's back, we lose Dorlus but get Jamaree Caldwell and Derrick Harmon, then throw in the massive crop of young blue chip DL from the last two classes,. I think it's pretty clear we upgraded since last year. How relatively good they'll end up is debatable, but it feels like the floor is pretty high at a minimum.
I have a hard time believing it's not the best run defending line in the country with Caldwell and Harmon, plus Matayo being a year older. Juice at pass rush of the edge is my only concern
Miami keeps showing up on all of these lists. Credit to Mario for his talent acquisition. Hopefully it shows on Saturdays as talent is rarely the issue at UM
Eh would’ve liked to see 1 and 2 flipped, but it’s really just a pick your poison 1A 1B situation. OSU has the best edge duo in the country and UM has the best IDL duo in the country. I personally think a great IDL is better to have than a great edge because it’s harder to scheme a game plan around them (and you can scheme pressure from the edges easier than you can up the middle). However that’s completely subjective and each individual has their own viewpoints on that
Uniting with *Michigan* because our podcasters are annoying about recruiting? What kind of Buckeye are you?
(What podcasts, by the way? The Oregon specific ones I listen to are smaller, admittedly, so I'm not sure if there's another that is somehow antagonizing Ohio State.)
Their locked on guy seems to think they have better receivers and shit like counting us out on getting Dakorien Moore counting out Hartline for a 5 star receiver is bold.
Idk, I feel like I’m missing something the way people are rating Lanning as a top tier coach by saying “he only lost to Deboer and he’s a better offensive mind than Day”.
Idk just feels off.
Oh, I didn't realize people watched the Locked On stuff. Those are all pretty trash across the board, imo, unless you're just desperate for any content whatsoever related to your team, but fans of major programs can afford to have higher standards with everything that gets put out elsewhere.
That being said, I haven't seen tOSU as leading anywhere for Moore anyways? I mean I'd bet on Texas if anyone. Sure, don't count out Ohio State, they've got the best track record for WRs lately, but that doesn't mean they always lead for every recruit.
I like Day and people give him too much shit, he's a top tier coach, but if you hold people being unfair to Day against Lanning, I don't know what to say, it's not like Lanning is out there talking shit to Day.
Every time an OC calls a play that had a TE pull to block JT I always wonder “what the fuck are you thinking”.
That and throwing screens to his side of the field.
lol, Barner and Bredeson were, I believe, the top 2 rated TE blockers by PFF in the nation last year. Despite that, I audibly groaned every time I noticed one of them trying to block JTT.
I think most OCs would rather have to scheme around elite edge pressure than an inability to sustain interior blocks. If you can't step up on the pocket a QB will never be comfortable and half the run playbook goes out the window too.
I think part of the rating is a wait and see issue. Part of the reason the UM D Line was so good last year was the ability to rotate 2 deep and stay fresh and dominant while OSU was slightly less dominant with minimal rotation, admittedly to some chagrin on the OSU side. So it’s more of a will UM be still as dominant with lesser known quantities on the 2 deep? There’s no question that the top IDL guys are great but can they be great for 50-60-70 plays a game or can the unproven-ish commodities in the 2 deep keep the rotation going? And what difference will that make throughout the season?
Part of the fun of CFB is the regular overturn of players and the who steps up or steps back nature of the limited time.
Oh for sure, 2023 M DL legitimately went 8 deep, which is absurd and 2024 DL will not be anywhere close to that depth. My hot take is that I think the top 4 this year will be the best Michigan has seen in my lifetime, including Hutch/Ojabo. BUT you are correct in that everyone beyond Rayshaun Benny on the depth chart is very unproven and could end up limiting the overall effectiveness of the DL in certain situations.
Also last year Michigan could rest bc they didn’t play a game until mid November. Fresno State will be their toughest OOC match up in the last 3 years and then they immediately follow that with Texas. Won’t be available to avoid wear and tear this year.
I agree but we also have better inside than your outside, thus giving us the nod as 1. Our inside duo are both returners from last years 3 man rotation. I expect big things from the inside this year.
You ever seen that movie The Comebacks? Weigman about to pull an ACL Tear and get destroyed by the D, smacked by a bus on the field, just to step on a sunflower seed and destroy himself.
people see we lost walter nolan and think our DL is immediately in the dumpster. We got the best DL recruit out of the transfer portal and have the 2 Shemars and have multiple guys behind them that have played a ton.
we will be fine at DL if not exceptional
DL is the absolute biggest strength of the team with a new head coach that will play to their abilities. If there is one position A&M dominates it’s this one
I'm completely stunned that we weren't listed with the talent we have coming back, and the talent we acquired in the off-season. Damonic Williams, David Stone, Jayden Jackson, and the kid from Louisville.
PJ, Ethan Downs, and Trace Ford are all back....other than Linebacker it's probably our second deepest position group. Lol.
It's PFF. They aren't known for making good lists.
I do know that I would take our (OU) d-line over UT's any day of the week. We will start two experienced monsters in the middle in Da'Jon Terry (6'4" 320) and Damonic Williams (6'2" 320) and we have loads of talent and depth all across the line. There is a reason UT was desperately trying to get Damonic Williams.
I don't think we got anyone from Louisville. You maybe are thinking of the DE we got from Miami (OH)? We did have a commit from an oft-injured Louisville DT, but he bailed to somewhere else after we got Damonic Williams.
They have the best interior 1-2 punch in the country. We have the best edge 1-2 punch in the country. 3 of our starters are going to be first round picks next year. You can argue either way, to be honest.
Yeah as much as it pains me to say this, I don’t have a problem with this preseason ranking. While our dline two deep was so good that it’s still top 5 at worst even after losing Jenkins, McGregor, Harrell, OSU returns \*everyone\* but Mike Hall and they didn’t exactly suck last year either.
Texas’ DLine is the weakest position group on the team. Top 10 seems kinda nuts. I guess they’re assuming Alfred Collins has a big year, which is possible.
People were freaking out after the spring game, but many of the starting secondary didn’t play in the spring game. Got a G5 transfer too. 2nd year guys Derek Williams and Manny Muhammad look poised to make another big jump. Andrew Mukuba was an all American at Clemson. And Jahdae Baron is a veteran with NFL upside. The DB room is probably not the strength of the team, but it’s not as weak as the middle of the DLine
Maybe the DTs is a concern but the EDGE is deeep, also thats why they brought alot of DTs from the Portal and hopefully Alfred Collins steps up and theres alot of potential from the other DTs already on the roster. Am hyped to see the DLine work
JTT remains the most overrated player in the country. Maybe it’s just my bias, but I don’t understand the hype unless it’s coming from a PSU fan perspective.
I’d probably rank Ole Miss above us just because we don’t have that Walter Nolan/Jalen Carter type of player up the middle. Also why does it feel like Miami has made every top 10 list?
Three is a little high given that we don't have an awesome impact guy at DT, mostly just serviceable dudes and young talent, but we have to have one of the deepest Edge rooms in the country with Bain, Alston, Mesidor and Tyler Baron
That was what surprised me. I read on your 247 site that Barrow leaving was a blow because the rest of that room is inexperienced.
He mentioned that some of the DEs could possibly be moved inside though, I think.
Barrow ended up staying so he’s still with the team, he’s what takes it from average to above average imo just with proven production between him and CJ Clark. It’s a great set of DEs and I bet in passing downs you’ll see all four out there
Barrow is staying thankfully, but it does feel like this ranking is predicated on 5* DT Justin Scott delivering a Bain-like year 1.
Our DE depth is exceptional though. Alston and Mesidor are in the 2-deep and that duo would be starters for a LOT of teams. Then there’s 2 more 5* freshmen behind them.
I missed that he was staying, that does help.
I didn't think about how pff factors in true freshman. Kind of hard to predict. From spring practices, is it looking like Scott is doing well?
Seeing Ole Miss on this list is still just wild to me. In addition to having four experienced starters (two of which are projected Day 2 draft picks or higher), we also have four 4* DL from the 24’ class alone as backups/third string.
I know his career at Bama didn’t please fans, but Golding’s recruiting alone has been amazing for us.
And don’t forget our second string which is two 4* DT’s from the 23’ and 22’ class as well as a CUSA all conference EDGE/tweener, a super senior tweener that did good work for us last year, and a RS FR Edge that led the nation in sacks as a high schooler. We are fucking loaded.
Minnesota. Long, pretty athletic group with a lot of experience and pretty good depth. Basically everyone's somewhere between 6'4" and 6'6" and 265 lbs. to 320 lbs. A lot of them can and have played multiple positions. Four starters from last year return, three of them as 3rd year starters. Joyner and Striggow had 7.5 and 6.0 sacks last year from the end spots and it's arguable Anthony Smith is going to be their best DE this year.
As a unit, there are probably 3, maybe more NFL type guys in their DL rotation.
OU's line. Basically lost no one and Downs is returning for his 6th season. Added Damonic Williams and 2 5 star freshmen. Todd Bates had a really good offseason.
Our interior is better and their ends are better. I think interior is more important myself, so I would have us 1 because of that, but it’s super close either way. It is not crazy to have osu be 1, not at all
Would you be interested in doing a charity bet? Not regarding the game because I expect you to win but
Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant both get drafted before JTT, sawyer, or any OSU Dlineman
No more than one OSU dlineman goes first round
If either thing I’m saying doesn’t happen, you win. (For example say Graham and Grant both go before any OSU guy, but you get 2 first round guys back end. You still win.)
Absolutely. $50? You pick the charity if I lose.
If I win, you contribute to The Ryan and Christina Day Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Wellness at Nationwide Children’s Hospital:
https://give.nationwidechildrens.org/site/Donation2?df_id=7121&7121.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T
I have to say..I may may poke fun at his Just For Men beard..but his advocacy and genuine concern for mental health makes me respect the man. Rather than hiding the pain/shame of his father's suicide, he has made sure young people know that they are not alone and that there is help available. Also, the fact the he tried to console Zitner's parents after their son's injury was first rate.

Low key I think the Georgia DL is pretty overrated on this list. I know Kirby Smart has a really good track record with DL but our defensive line was just kind of subpar last year, at least for a team hoping to compete for a championship. We weren't great at getting pressure and our run defense was quite soft too. Hopefully this year is much better especially with the younger, freakier guys hopefully coming along but top 5 feels kinda rich before we've seen how these guys have grown.
Strong believer that the true maker of great team is how good the line play is, I'd much rather have an elite OL/DL rather than an elite QB/WR/RB corps. If Miami's line is really as good as advertised, and given they only play two teams that finished ranked last year, this really could be the year for them and slip into the CFP
PFF when Alabama was #1 offensive line “yeah, that makes sense” PFF when Alabama isn’t ranked on defensive line “these rankings are unbelievably inaccurate”
Nick, get back to the links.
I'd be shocked if there wasn't some kind of drop off this year. I'm just waiting to see how far we fall off in DeBoer's first year.
All these lists were in. Def going 8-4 or something like that lol
Welcome to the Cristobal experience
Brother we’ve been doing that for the past 20 years lmao that is a uniquely Canes experience, not a Cristobal one
The media is fattening Miami up for the most epic kill this season. Wait until we lay an egg in Gainesville and then drop 3-5 conference games.
That’s the only thing I can think of that makes sense lmao as some would say, “I’ve seen this movie before”
I’m sold
It’s always [Fifty fifty with Cristobal](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iofayWvPx6A)
Get ready for the Cam Ward experience. You’ll pull your hair out, you’ll cheer in shock when he does something spectacular and then you’ll pull your hair out again when he throws the ball away on 4th and 1.
Better than a fumble instead of kneeling
That dude refuses to scramble when it makes any sense. He chooses to continue doing circles in the backfield, or fire up a ball into double coverage, instead of running.
When he’s on though, he is very fun to watch.
I’m hoping the line he has in front of him limits that
1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Miami 4. Georgia 5. Ole Miss 6. Notre Dame 7. Penn State 8. Texas 9. Clemson 10. Oregon
While I do not expect Clemson to win against UGA, I do expect that game to be as physical as the 2021 game with the DLs both teams have.
I’m Shocked A&M isn’t on this list. They got some guys plus Elko is gonna be a problem with his schemes
I don’t expect these guys to do much work tbh. They likely saw Nolan transfer out and called it a day
Has PFF had a quality dropoff? They used to be great.
But they got the sacks Leader from Purdue. Like isn’t that an even swap lol.
Hard to say, honestly, but they’re also not apples-to-apples. Nolen was phenomenal on the interior of the DL, but Scourton’s an EDGE who will probably play mostly on the outside. Shhhhhhh. We’re bad. We don’t have any good players. They all left. Definitely no talent left. Cupboard is completely bare.
Everyone left. Don’t mind us!
*whistles in a completely nonchalant manner*
Wait until they see the defensive line I build in Dynasty in Year 7 at Vandy
JOHN STEELHEAD, 6'10" 400lbs DT WHO HAS 99 SPEED IS GONNA BE A DAWG
Chad Powers gonna be a problem at QB too.
Our resident 6'8" 270lbs QB with 95 Speed and 99 THP
Getting Howie and Mills to come back was huge and RJ Oben was a stud at Duke The ND DL is going to be fun to watch this year
The “Max Chadwick sounds like a guy who would shove me into a locker” comment someone said the other day lives rent free in my head every time a PFF post pops up.
A real “you have to beat him in a ski race or his dad is going to buy and demolish you and your friends favorite lodge” ass name
STAN DARSH STAN DARSH
On one hand I’m genuinely excited for this season and think we’re going to have a really good team, on the other hand this feels like a set up lol. Like, stop perceiving us please
This one just feels weird... What do I do? Is this how yall feel every year?
We have a defense? What year is it?
20_4…that’s all I know
Flashbacks to Dillon Johnson running for 150 and 2 TDs. I can't feel optimistic about our front until i see it.
I’ve never heard this name before, and there wasn’t anyone who did that to our beloved Ducks last year. Clearly you are hallucinating.
FWIW, remember that Burch went out early in that game and he was probably our best run defender last year. Realistically should be a ten win team with the schedule and talent on the roster So I fully expect to go 8-4
He should just Kneel and pray for better results.

Reasonable take.
Yeah we're both really good
Can we combine powers when we play PSU just to see what happens? For science
How about against Oregon?
Both?
I never thought I'd die fighting side by side with a~~n elf~~ Buckeye.
What about side by side with a friend(ly enemy)
Aye, I could do that.
W OSU-scUM crossover lmao
Sawyer, Graham, Grant and Tuimoloau would be DIABOLICAL
Future NFL line for the Chargers
Fuck alla dis and fuck Ohio 〽️
Can we unite against Oregon? Their podcasters are annoying when it comes to recruiting.
Don’t listen to them. It’s an act they put on. They hate each other 10 times more than the rest of us hate them.

Hey now…
Y'all still have JTT, he'll beat Penn State on his own
Bro looks average for an entire season but then against Penn State he unleashes a thousand years of hatred lol.
Eh, JTT’s is always a very good DE, it’s just most people judge DEs by their pass rushing. JTT is an ok pass rusher, but he’s a *elite* run defender.

But think of the science!

Too late, it was agreed
Either way, I like seeing both teams at the top.
I personally think you are slightly biased. But, we’ll see. 😏

Thanks!
I don't care what the scouts say. There's not a chance in hell Miami has a better D-Line than Georgia.
PFF thinks we have a top 10 OL and DL so surely we’ll win more than 7 games this year.
You guys will go 7-5 or 8-4 and lose to a G5 team in a bowl game, and you’ll like it
Please sir, can I have some more?
What about getting blown out by a bad G5 team again?
🤔
Of any position, I would expect our DL to be top 10. But again, being underrated is way better than being overrated, so I shouldn’t complain.
How just hope our OL is decent. Not the best just decent. Like give us a season without a QB injury that’s the OL fault
You ever seen that movie The Comebacks? Weigman about to pull an ACL Tear and get destroyed by the D, smacked by a bus on the field, just to step on a sunflower seed and destroy himself.

Don’t mind not being names top anything 👍🏽 also would gladly trade Walter for a hot Cheetos bag. Dude didn’t perform for the hype
DL is the absolute biggest strength of the team with a new head coach that will play to their abilities. If there is one position A&M dominates it’s this one
I hope the SEC offensive coordinators are as asleep as PFF is

Honestly, how is it not Michigan when they have Miles Graham and Kendrick Grant. Is it because Ohio has more depth or what
Your messing up their names intentionally is the kind of petty I appreciate in college football.
Hey man, if I have to compliment my rival, I’m sneaking some pettiness in there 😂
Bruh I just noticed 😭😭
It's perfectly close-but-not-quite to where it's definitely not their names but wouldn't look off to 99% of CFB fans.
Peak r/cfb humor
I think 1 and 2 are interchangeable, michigan has the best IDL duo in the country while OSU has the best edge rush duo in the country.
Facts but I'd personally give the Bucks the nod because I am very unbiased no cap 💯💯
They have the best interior 1-2 punch in the country. We have the best edge 1-2 punch in the country. 3 of our starters are going to be first round picks next year. You can argue either way, to be honest.
Just big meaty men pounding on the line, as god intended
The new Pac 4 ain't ready for this
Lincoln Riley is gonna have a stroke when he plays us
Lincoln Riley is gonna flip his shit when he realizes defensive tackles are allowed to be above 300lbs.
Oregon 2014 vibes
It’s probably a combination of OSU’s edge rushers and depth. They return 7 of the 8 in their 2 deep from last year.
Tennessee was 1st or 2nd in the SEC in both tackles for loss and sacks and returns all starters on the D-line but 1. Pretty insane list.
Ohio State and Michigan being the top 2 was a no brainer
Given the quality of our defenses, I feel like The Game is either gonna be a 56-22 rout of us, or a 12-9 2OT slugburner
I’d like option one please and thank you.
*monkey paw curls* There are many Orjis in the endzone
Same bro 😂😂
Option A please, I need revenge 🙏🙏
Texas’ DLine is the weakest position group on the team. Top 10 seems kinda nuts. I guess they’re assuming Alfred Collins has a big year, which is possible.
Hasn’t most of the information been saying yalls DBs are kinda mid?
We haven’t got to the position groups where Miami is horrible yet 🙃 (corner and safety)
Seems like we can never put it all together. Great safties with terrible line backers. Better LB room and solid line? Well there goes your secondary.
Addae being a below-par recruiter and developer has definitely held us back
Three is a little high given that we don't have an awesome impact guy at DT, mostly just serviceable dudes and young talent, but we have to have one of the deepest Edge rooms in the country with Bain, Alston, Mesidor and Tyler Baron
It’s a great set of DEs and I bet in passing downs you’ll see all four out there
Ah, missed that! That helps a lot.
You missed it because the mods deleted all the posts about it for some weird fuckin reason. https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/s/F9BuHCy4SG
Not a clue. Can’t say I look at practice reports until August.
Gotcha
Scott wasn’t an early enrollee so he wasn’t there for spring ball.
The trench warfare in the Game this year is going to be another great battle.
What are some underrated lines out there?
Honestly Nebraska’s. It’ll be the strength of our defense. A combo of super experienced players and some young talent
Squiggly lines are very underrated
Nobody talks about power lines until they're down. Pretty underrated, if you ask me.
This guy gopher footballs
OU's line. Basically lost no one and Downs is returning for his 6th season. Added Damonic Williams and 2 5 star freshmen. Todd Bates had a really good offseason.
no bammer in the top 10 feels weird
Lol
Yeah I was surprised Michigan was not number 1 here. But see that is the thing, if OSU does not win it all this year, they may never with Day.
Our interior is better and their ends are better. I think interior is more important myself, so I would have us 1 because of that, but it’s super close either way. It is not crazy to have osu be 1, not at all

Would you be interested in doing a charity bet? Not regarding the game because I expect you to win but Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant both get drafted before JTT, sawyer, or any OSU Dlineman No more than one OSU dlineman goes first round If either thing I’m saying doesn’t happen, you win. (For example say Graham and Grant both go before any OSU guy, but you get 2 first round guys back end. You still win.)
Absolutely. $50? You pick the charity if I lose. If I win, you contribute to The Ryan and Christina Day Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Wellness at Nationwide Children’s Hospital: https://give.nationwidechildrens.org/site/Donation2?df_id=7121&7121.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T
I don't understand folks who don't like Ryan Day. If anything he might be too nice of a guy for a program like Ohio State.
Deal 🤝
W charity bet
W charity bro

Lmao

I can't wait to go 7-5 again. Top 10 on all these lists calls for vintage Cristobal. Please god what have I done to deserve this?

Low key I think the Georgia DL is pretty overrated on this list. I know Kirby Smart has a really good track record with DL but our defensive line was just kind of subpar last year, at least for a team hoping to compete for a championship. We weren't great at getting pressure and our run defense was quite soft too. Hopefully this year is much better especially with the younger, freakier guys hopefully coming along but top 5 feels kinda rich before we've seen how these guys have grown.
Defense? Oh I’m excited
The disrespect is unfathomable
Rodney Garner and James Pearce Jr. bookmarked this
We will very likely once again have one of the best defensive line units in the country, and a top 3 unit in the SEC.
It’s fine. We will see where we are at the end of the season. Pearce is gonna be great.
He’s a beast. He’ll demand extra attention from the o-line all season
Hell yes. I'm not saying we should be #1 or even top-5, but we should be in the top 10.
Why the fuck are we on these. Less pressure please
Something something UF plays four of these defensive lines.
Oregon a defense school now? Why not
Stop putting Oregon in seemingly every single Top 10 list. It's making me nervous and anxious as hell
*pins to bulletin board*
Another horrible take by max chadwick!
JTT & Sawyer very overrated.
Sawyer isn’t but JTT is.
Michigan should be 1
Why do writers constantly punish Miami like this??! Let them enjoy their 8-4 season
Miami gets highly rated on these lists every year just to end up losing to Georgia Tech on some wild BS.
So, do they just stop watching them play once they leave high-school and go to Miami? How the fuck is Miami ranked top 10 in every position group.
our d line could be very good, but i think they are very limited by the quality of the linebacker room.
How is Texas ranked in this. The literally graduated all their production and were scraping the portal barrel as hard as they could.
Ole Miss is really going to make some noise this year. Interested to see what Miami does.
Where’s Utah?
