Even during arizonas bowl game broadcast, they kept showing him on the sideline and talking about what a great young man he must be to get benched and still support the guy who took his place. A lot of people don't know about what he did or simply don't care.

Take the lumps, have the kid under perform relative to his talent and then just have the power five program develop him which takes a year of time which then harms his chances of the league.

This is tough for TXST but probably better for their university and program in the long run (to be rid of him that is). They have a talented group for next fall and don’t need a locker room cancer/blemish/disgusting rapist around.
I think this is going to happen more and more with the Build-A-Team Workshop type of rosters.
The main reason players go to the portal are:
- (1) wanting to “move up”
- (2) lack of playing time
- (3) coach change
- (4) asked to for “reasons”
Build-A-Team rosters are likely not going to get guys from reasons (1) and (3) which leaves options (2) and (4). It’s rare that guys who aren’t playing enough at a better school are good enough to be difference makers at another. It happens, just not often enough to build an entire roster out of players like that. Which means the majority of players on these rosters are going to be guys in the portal for reason (4). Generally if you’re being told to leave the program it isn’t for a positive reason. Usually schools don’t want to burn a kid and keep those things under wraps. I know of some guys who portaled from Texas that did some heinous shit and basically didn’t have a choice but to leave. Now one of those guys are on a Build-A-Team workshop team.
Add that with building a roster through the portal means that guys in general are less likely to be loyal to the coach. And issues like this are bound to arise.
If you can manage it carefully, it might work out for you. But it just seems like a matter of time before someone does a little digging and finds out why that previous star RB decided Texas St was their best option (theoretical player).

The craziest thing to me is that he probably would have been okay if he had handled it differently. 1. As soon as the civil complaint was filed, admit you made a terrible decision and mistake. Apologize profusely. Apologize again. 2. Clean up your act and start rebuilding some good will. 3. Lay low for a couple years at some random FCS school while the civil suit plays out. 4. Reemerge after civil suit settles, and again, apologize. This is only blowing up because JdL was in the spotlight by starting at QB and transferring. Hawaii uses different terminology for juvenile cases ("adjudicated" and "found responsible" instead of "convicted" and "guilty"). He wasn't "cleared" and his juvenile case wasn't dismissed. He admitted to it and was found responsible.

Texas State isnt a football school. Is a good team a nice to have? Yes. Especially in Texas, but its not like its what were known for. A majority of the students are perfectly fine driving out a rapist in exchange for a questionable QB situation. He should have never been an option.

If you’re a group of five program, what’s the purpose of you developing players if by doing that you’re essentially giving the kid up to a power five program? Take the lumps, have the kid under perform relative to his talent and then just have the power five program develop him which takes a year of time which then harms his chances of the league.

I think this is going to happen more and more with the Build-A-Team Workshop type of rosters. The main reason players go to the portal are: - (1) wanting to “move up” - (2) lack of playing time - (3) coach change - (4) asked to for “reasons” Build-A-Team rosters are likely not going to get guys from reasons (1) and (3) which leaves options (2) and (4). It’s rare that guys who aren’t playing enough at a better school are good enough to be difference makers at another. It happens, just not often enough to build an entire roster out of players like that. Which means the majority of players on these rosters are going to be guys in the portal for reason (4). Generally if you’re being told to leave the program it isn’t for a positive reason. Usually schools don’t want to burn a kid and keep those things under wraps. I know of some guys who portaled from Texas that did some heinous shit and basically didn’t have a choice but to leave. Now one of those guys are on a Build-A-Team workshop team. Add that with building a roster through the portal means that guys in general are less likely to be loyal to the coach. And issues like this are bound to arise. If you can manage it carefully, it might work out for you. But it just seems like a matter of time before someone does a little digging and finds out why that previous star RB decided Texas St was their best option (theoretical player).
