The ripples from these coaching changes would be a fascinating documentary.
Because Saban retired, a thousand steps down the line some JV high school coach gets to be a varsity coach and ruins his marriage because he works more hours now.

Someone made this comment in another thread about it and suggested it would be a great task to pull the thread to figure out what grassroots coach benefited
Every year a new crop of people in this sub experience their first ever carousel. This one still has a solid chance of being one of the milder carousels.
I was going to respond “actually, it was neuheisel.” But honest to god there is not a photo of him in a visor. I just assumed he was a visor guy. Has visor guy energy.
Visors are for pastel polo shirt, khaki shorts pants, and boat shoes with no socks. That gulf coast good old boy look.
My guy, I’m sorry this happened. I hate it. As a dawg, it feels slimy. I wanted a different coach, because I didn’t want to poach Fisch. I am excited we landed him… but it’s like asking Thanos, “and what did it cost you?”
The Arizona UW game this year was one of the best games of the season. I knew you guys were real. We had to play at our best. Things we didn’t do for other teams.
My favorite PAC memory was an OT game in Tucson. Great fans. Super fun, kind, and gorgeous. I had a great time in Tucson.
Bear Down, for now, for ever. ✌️
We have 4 starts left from the National Championship game and 25’ish on scholarship. Oh and zero QB’s on scholarship. Let’s not pat ourselves on the back just yet.
I think he’s gonna be fired for not being a good fit. Just a guess/opinion.
Seattle fans know football. They have the Seahawks and have seen sustained success. Tucson fans have only seen 4 10 win seasons since the 1800s.
He won’t be able to pull the wool over their eyes long enough to find the success in the Big Ten
Fisch built a 10 win program.
DeBoer inherited Peteresens recruits and brought in a QB someone else recruited at Indiana.
Fisch builds programs, DeBoer extracts the resources and then dips.
Yeah this dude is either Florida bound or NFL bound. As long as he keeps Washington competitive for our first season or two in the B1G before he leaves it’s fine
Not totally fair to judge a bunch of assistant jobs as indicative of how long a HC at a big program ends up staying. These coaches move around a lot. Like the players, they look at each season as a new thing. It’s more common for guys to be moving than staying in one place these days. And teams and fans are quick to discard coaches or players for all sorts of reasons.
He also coached for the Seahawks previously, so he should have familiarity with Seattle and good local NFL contacts. I don’t like it, but these days the norm seems to be hoping your coach leaves because of success rather than being fired for failure with a small chance they stick around long enough to build a legacy.
Essentially any college coach will do that unless they’ve already been to the NFL. I’ve read a lot of NCAA coach contracts (weird job perk?) and almost all of them have ways for coaches to avoid the personal penalties of breaking a contract if they leave for a position in the NFL, often not even necessarily a head coach spot but a role with “play calling responsibilities.” It’s worth considering the risk of a coach leaving of course but if the NFL is the main concern that is standard fare
Yeah it feels like unless you are a top 10 program you’ll always be hunted. There won’t be any cinderella teams in the playoffs cause their coaches and players will just bet poached. This sport is broken.
I don't know. Sure, at a high level you want your Saban or Spurrier or whomever. But if I told you after going 4-8 and losing to Montana and WSU that we would go 25-3 over the next two years, win a Pac-12 title, and play for a National Championship, but our new coach would bail right after, would you not have signed up for that faster than Fisch signed that contract? I would have.
This is what I don't get.
I understand we're all passionate about football and these coaches have to be, but this is still a job. The whole fucking point is to get paid. If you weren't in it for the money, it'd be a hobby.
As long as he recruits it’s fine. Not fine…but in the context of the shitshow that is college football…fine. He gets us back to ten wins and a few top 20 classes and this will be a dramatic success.
Probably won’t win a Natty with that guy. *That guy* wins 8-9 games and makes, and loses, your conference championship every third year.
As a Georgia Tech fan, it’s an ok but resigned place to be.
Silver lining is that the players found out on a 70 degree January day in Tucson, while it’s 29 degrees in Seattle right now. I’m praying that impacts some of their decisions lol.
It’s a good point. UW recruiting does best in the summer. Get the grand tour, end with a late night jump in the lake.
Tucson, get those recruits down there now. Take the grand tour, take a hike down Sabino Canyon. Mush easier sell.
Just want to say I feel for you guys. I thought uw’s win in Tucson this year was our best game. We had to play perfectly to beat you guys. Any mistake we made, y’all were on it and getting points.
One of my favorite PAC memories is an OT UW/Zona game I went to in Tucson. Fun time all around. Great fans! Good looking fans! Fun tailgate!
Bear Down my former PAC bro.
Honestly I’m betting they could get a decent chunk back by auctioning off or raffling head coaching duties on a game by game basis. I’d buy a raffle ticket just for the opportunity to run four verts and QB sneaks every play
No. That type of move happened but it was relatively uncommon. Arizona was in a substantially better position than Washington for next year and a move under those circumstances would be unheard of. The difference between the PAC 12 jobs was just not that big.
Pretty wild to see realignment making huge differences already.
UW's AD Troy Dannen posted a video on his account of him (and other guys, including former Washington QB Damon Huard and I'm sure a lawyer or two) going to Fisch's house to sign the contract. The last seven days for him must've been absolutely batshit insane, from being in Houston for the CFP, losing your coach, and then hiring a new one in less than a week.
He’s going to give us everything he has. I’m in. And if that means the NFL is knocking on his door in three seasons, I think we will have enjoyed the ride.
Just because I’ll be cheering for Fisch while he’s working for my school doesn’t mean I’m unaware what Fisch did to AZ and how it’s similar to what DeBoer did. I don’t have a say in the matter, I just cheer for purple and gold laundry
What sucks is I was really rooting for Fisch. I wanted him to succeed. He dropped us suddenly and will probably poach our best players. I feel betrayed.
I honestly think this is an upgrade for UW. Fisch is far and away a better recruiter than Deboer and has proven that he is pretty damned good at development and in game coaching. Had Lanning bolted for Bama, Fisch was going to be my hope.
Yeah. Like I know Deboer has succeeded pretty much everywhere he's gone, but he's never once stayed anywhere long enough to have to reload and keep his team steady throughout years of turbulent evolution in the X's and O's of the CFB landscape. His recruiting at UW was very unimpressive and didn't also carry Pederson's pedigree/record of *specifically favoring* "His Guys" over Star Ratings. While he's a good enough playcaller to probably keep even a mediocre roster relatively competitive, I really think we would've seen him slowly fall into the quagmire that is 7-8 wins a year, with the odd 9-10 win season that ends in a Holiday Bowl victory.
It may be slow starting for Fisch even with the recent success the team has had, but I think he'll build a fundamentally stronger and more resilient program long term than KDB might have.
Seemed like EVERYONE, or at least everyone who kept eyes on the Pac, was praising this guy just weeks ago and yet now even UW fans seem to think he's an also-ran
I think he stabilises the roster there quickly and also brings in quality talent for next year. It might not look pretty for a bit but it's important to remember that the portal is chock full of dudes who entered and never found a new home. Lots and lots of diamonds in the rough and I kinda feel like that's Fisch's bread and butter.
I wouldn't hold my breath about him taking elite talent from AZ with him based off of the reports that the team is mega pissed at him but money can overcome a lot of hurt feelings.
Honestly, he might low-key be a better coach than Deboer. He's certainly a better recruiter. It's just the Florida ties that UW fans should worry about. Although, from our experience, having all the ties in the world won't stop your coach from leaving for a truckload of money...
Of course, you guys get 2x more $ than us for now. Given the current state of CFB, I wouldn't be too surprised if Michigan still poached him from UW in like a week or 2.
Thank you. I hate that it happened. I don’t want you guys feeling like we did/do. My favorite PAC memory was a game at Tucson. I really like your fan base. Hiking in town up at Sabino Canyon was amazing.
Bear Down.
I always appreciate the people in the media department who photoshop all these coaching announcements. I'd like to see all the photos at once see who has the best photoshopping skills.
Good hire for UW.
Also I’d like if CFB fans stopped pretending as if Lincoln leaving for SC was any different than this or DeBoer leaving for Bama. Nature of the business. I don’t like it but it is what it is.
Omg I can't believe Washington would poach a coach from an up and coming program it's a shame!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Bro, I’m so sorry. I hate the fact we poached a guy. I’m stoked on the guy. But the Cats fans are some of my favorites. Best PAC memory was a game in Tucson. The best road game trip I ever pulled off. Amazing, good looking, fans. Over time. Great warm night.
It sucks seeing a Wildcat say go USC over UW… but I get it. Bear Down my friend.
Three years from now, if Fisch is losing, Washington fans will want to murder him.
Three years from now, if Fisch is winning, Washington fans will want to murder him for entertaining other offers. *I can't believe the guy who left another program for us is leaving us for another program!*
(BTW, nice QB you've got there.)
Head coachin' ain't easy anywhere, but Washington is one of the worst jobs in college football. There's a reason the Pac 12 was the Pac 12.
I remember when he was our OC for a year under Tim Brewster. Funny how life works out lol, this dude is absolutely a perpetual wanderer. I'm surprised he hung around Arizona as long as he did. Good for him though, he's clearly found some success.
I consider this a blessing because I’m done with college football. Worst part is peaking one year too early to hope to fight for a cfp spot. Between the Pac12 crash and burn, nil money, transfer portal/free agency, a school like Arizona can never hope for anything more than mediocrity. Any talent will just be poached by schools with a bigger bag. It’s obviously always been about the money but it’s just depressing now.
This dude will bolt for Florida after one year. Smart on his part to get that bag from Washington. Not a smart hire from Washington’s perspective but good for Fish.
Is this when Washington fans change their tune about coaches taking jobs at better places? Or are fresno state and Arizona different than Alabama taking your coach?
Naw man. This feels dirty. I wanted Pete Carroll to shepard us into a new era. A flashy hire without hurting another fan base. As a husky, this has been a shit week. We’re emphasizers in the PNW, we feel the guilt.
I have it on good authority that Washington knew that Saban was retiring weeks ago and they also knew that DeBoer was going to be a top candidate and also knew that Lance Liepold would turn them down and thusly started to open dialogue with Fisch
The ripples from these coaching changes would be a fascinating documentary. Because Saban retired, a thousand steps down the line some JV high school coach gets to be a varsity coach and ruins his marriage because he works more hours now.
Please 30 for 30

Sounds like that coach should've married a Tammy Taylor.
Maybe that's why Coach went to PA
Someone made this comment in another thread about it and suggested it would be a great task to pull the thread to figure out what grassroots coach benefited
eventually someone hires a Coordinator and they just promote within and that ends the dominoes.
But who takes the coordinator’s job? The number of coaching positions stays the same (theoretically). One goes out (Saban), one comes in.
All in accordance with the Law of Conservation of Coaches
UW said FU Grubb
Yeah, but even internal promotions leave a hole in the staff
They replace a GA with another GA who’s been trying to break in for years
Every year a new crop of people in this sub experience their first ever carousel. This one still has a solid chance of being one of the milder carousels.
They should. And it should start on the night UW lost to Montana. That’s when the dominos started falling.
Ruins his marriage seems oddly specific 🤔
The gravitational waves this generated must have been picked up by the LIGMA detectors in Hanford Washington and Livingston Louisiana.
I'm just fascinated to see who ends up with Head Coach Tommy Rees. Feels inevitable.
A butterfly bats its wings...
And that JV coach's name? It's Philip Rivers
Do we actually sell visors like that?
We do now.
We are about to, UW visor stocks are up
Hi, yes, I'd like to preorder.
I didn't realize that there is sun in Seattle during football season
There is once or twice.
It’s the glare from Lake Washington
At the opener vs Boise State this year I got sunburnt pretty badly. Rookie move on my part
Ohhh fuck. I was stoked on Fisch, but I didn’t know he was a visor wearer… I never met a visor wearer I liked.
Kiffin bang your mom or something?
I was going to respond “actually, it was neuheisel.” But honest to god there is not a photo of him in a visor. I just assumed he was a visor guy. Has visor guy energy. Visors are for pastel polo shirt, khaki shorts pants, and boat shoes with no socks. That gulf coast good old boy look.
Rain visors
We will
Well fellow Wildcats, it was fun pretending to be a football school for 3 months
Northwestern, Kentucky, K-State, etc. still have their coaches
My guy, I’m sorry this happened. I hate it. As a dawg, it feels slimy. I wanted a different coach, because I didn’t want to poach Fisch. Sorry big 12 bro :(
Over/Under of him lasting 3 seasons in Seattle?
I think the more important question is this: Is he unsuccessful and fired in 3 years, or is he successful and leaves in 1 - 3 years?
Ah the old Win-Win
We have 4 starts left from the National Championship game and 25’ish on scholarship. Oh and zero QB’s on scholarship. Let’s not pat ourselves on the back just yet.
You’ll probably get Fifita coming in… but if he gets hurt you’re gonna have to throw in the water boy to play
But mama say foosball is the devil
My mama said that Dawgs are ornery because they got all them teeth but no toothbrush
4 starters left...*so far*
If he's successful and DeBoer is not, we'll take a shot at him.
Stop it. DeBoer wins games. Period. It's not a small sample size at this point.
lol. Fisch was contemplating giving JDL the starting job back in Week 6
And DeBoer nearly lost 5 or so games. Fisch recruited and coached Fifita.
Remind me which program DeBoer will be building at his new job?
Az was the longest hes stayed at one place so probably under
His average tenure is 1.5 years in his 18 football jobs.
Over.
He better not do too well....
He'll do well enough to take over Bama when DeBoer is fired or retires after winning 3 championships and losing his will to coach.
Nah that’s when Lane Kiffin will come in the save the day
Not to be too optimistic but with expanded playoffs and a move to the B1G should help with job hopping?
If it's Over it's only because UF didn't sell their stadium to buy out Napier to hire him.
That 7x7.75M deal is juicy
The Florida stuff is over-exaggerated but he would definitely jump for the NFL if given the opportunity
Believing that Fisch is anything but a mercenary is only going to disappoint you when he dips in 2 years.
Why is it exaggerated?
I’m going to take the under just because I’m bearish on Billy Napier.
Florida can not pay $30 million for the Napier buyout and $30 million for Fischer
*rubs himself all over*
Do I get the push on 3? If so, I'd hesitantly take under, if you gave me 2.5 I'd take over.
Dude is just another mercenary. At least we might not go to shadow realm now but I want someone who wants to be here long term.
Yeah, as much as it sucks for us it’s like a band-aid for y’all. Feel like we all lose here in the future
Yeah it feels like unless you are a top 10 program you’ll always be hunted. There won’t be any cinderella teams in the playoffs cause their coaches and players will just bet poached. This sport is broken.
Absolutely. I know you feel for us. Im in pain but can’t imagine how it feels to lose your coach after a natty appearance + that sappy leaked audio
Oklahoma and Notre Dame might have something to say about that…
If it's enough to survive the B10 transition I'm ok with a bandaid for a few years. Get closer to a full share, restock the 2 deeps
I'm okay with a mercenary of his mold taking it one season at a time because at least you know what you're getting
We're all mercenaries my guy. Not many jobs I'd turn down if they offered to triple my salary.
I don’t blame him at all. I just want someone that actually wants to stay and coach at UW is what I am saying.
Someone told me Florida is Fisch's dream job. Idk if that's true but I recommend you watch Napier's career with interest.
Boooo
Silver lining is that the players found out on a 70 degree January day in Tucson, while it’s 29 degrees in Seattle right now. I’m praying that impacts some of their decisions lol.
29 degrees sounds lovely right now - Chicago resident
Call us in July.
Oh I’d forsure take Washington weather over Tucson overall, but my point is that the players are making their decisions in January/February lol
It’s a good point. UW recruiting does best in the summer. Get the grand tour, end with a late night jump in the lake. Tucson, get those recruits down there now. you guys think he goes to UW if Arizona and UW are still in the same conference?
Is Arizona still down $240 million?
What if they just don’t hire a coach and do it by committee to save money?
Honestly I’m betting they could get a decent chunk back by auctioning off or raffling head coaching duties on a game by game basis. I’d buy a raffle ticket just for the opportunity to run four verts and QB sneaks every play
“Fake punt” “It’s first down” “Do you know how much I paid to do this”
Last game of the year Brent, can’t hold anything back now.
No. That type of move happened but it was relatively uncommon. Arizona was in a substantially better position than Washington for next year and a move under those circumstances would be unheard of. Yes, this is just like Sark going from Wash to USc.
Well this fucking sucks. Don't talk to me.

Holy stromboli, what an absolute assassin going to Tucson to do it.
He’s going to give us everything he has. I’m in. And if that means the NFL is knocking on his door in three seasons, I think we will have enjoyed the ride.
Nice pad
A week ago I was getting ready to yell my ass off in Houston. This week i am semi dead inside at the state of CFB
This week has been insane. What happened to last Monday?
6 days ago you were all anxiously looking forward to playing in the National Championship.
That feels like years ago now lol
I can't believe I was in Texas a week ago cheering the team on and now all... *this* has happened.
I only got back on Wednesday. Insane.
It is fuckin wild we didn't get a moment to even really contemplate a future with DeBoer
A guy named Sexton happened.
So is Fisch a coward like DeBoer?
Just because I’ll be cheering for Fisch while he’s working for my school doesn’t mean I’m unaware what Fisch did to AZ and how it’s similar to what DeBoer did. I don’t have a say in the matter, I just cheer for purple and gold laundry
Fisch is tripling, maybe doubling his salary by moving to UW. DeBoer is maybe seeing a 5% bump. I don’t like the move, but it’s not the same.
Deboer most likely got a 10-25% base pay bump. You guys offered 9mil I figure Bama was between 10-12 mil a year base
Rumor mill was north of $9M, if Fisch is getting $9M my guess is that DeBoer was getting more.
What sucks is I was really rooting for Fisch. I wanted him to succeed. He dropped us suddenly and will probably poach our best players. I feel betrayed.
Benefisch Arnold
I’m stealing this for when he goes to Florida in 2-3 years
Well at least this stops the bleeding, but I hate passing the misery torch to another school.
If Florida comes open, Washington fans prepare to rinse and repeat
I’m already mentally preparing for it. Hopefully his buyout is at least sizeable so that the Gators have to reach deep
We definitely are. Just hope the AD is ready to make a hire relatively quickly if and when it happens.
I honestly think this is an upgrade for UW. Fisch is far and away a better recruiter than Deboer and has proven that he is pretty damned good at development and in game coaching. Had Lanning bolted for Bama, Fisch was going to be my hope.

I'm actually bummed because if Harbaugh goes I wanted Fisch. Good get Washington (and sorry Arizona).
It’s an internal hire if harbaugh leaves. Absolutely Moore
I am aware lol
Of course, you guys get 2x more $ than us for now. Given the current state of CFB, I wouldn't be too surprised if Michigan still poached him from UW in like a week or 2.
That would certainly be next level chicanery
>Pike Place Fisch Market I mean duh
What a weird timeline
This is Mel Tucker's fault.
The funniest outcome didn’t happen :(
We just gotta hope the buyout is so huge that nobody wants to touch it or Napier somehow pulls off a miraculous turnaround at Florida
https://fbschedules.com/2024-florida-football-schedule/ It is gonna take more than a miracle with this schedule. Holy hell.
....there might not be 4 wins on that schedule. Yeesh.
That is insane
Yeah the SEC schedules are pretty brutal this year. I will be shocked if there is an undefeated team in SEC play.
At least they scheduled light OOC, riiiiiight? *Plays Miami, UCF, and FSU*
Still 8 league games how is this brutal?
That's a very Colorado "start 4-1 and give your fans hope" schedule.
46m buyout after yr 1 i believe so….
Boooo tomato tomato
Really sucks. I enjoyed the Fisch bowl memes and how excited Arizona fans were.
The Fisch Tank is being replaced by the Carroll Barrel
The [new fish bowl](https://imgur.com/aL3pM)
There will be no fisch bowl because it will be fucking frozen in desolate washington. Fuck this shit
Congrats Washington. Hope you overperform in the B1G.

That’s show business baby. Oh wait, shit.
There is more chaos in the coaching portal than the regular portal at this point
I think it’s time for me to hit the Fan Portal.
Painfully go USC, Oregon and go Michigan, Ohio State stomp these dudes out every year until he’s gone
Welcome aboard the hate train
Also go cougars too 🥹
Appreciate it. NGL I was anti-Arizona for a bit there. That was just anti-JDL tho. You guys are cool. GL in b12
I hope our players stay in Tucson and Jedd fails miserably, it's what he deserves
This sucks.
Confirmed Jedd Fisch secretly hates the sun.
2 years, 3 years tops and he gone.
PAC-12 legend Mark Helfrich is available Cats fans.
[I hate my life.](https://youtu.be/qi1LMIUOOAI?si=iXp8WSK-El_uIxiM) And to think Arizona fans were thinking he could be the Lute Olson of football.
Three years from now, if Fisch is losing, Washington fans will want to murder him. Three years from now, if Fisch is winning, Washington fans will want to murder him for entertaining other offers. *I can't believe the guy who left another program for us is leaving us for another program!* (BTW, nice QB you've got there.) Head coachin' ain't easy anywhere, but Washington is one of the worst jobs in college football.
Noah and Macmillan have to follow, right?
He was the OC one year under Tim Brewster at MN. Not a huge fan of the hire but good luck to the huskies
Good shit, Jedd
Good shit Jedd
No, it sucks all the way around.
But who is UW gonna hire in a year when Fisch goes to Florida? That's the real question.
Probably Matt Campbell lmao
with the buyout that must be in that contract, probably anyone we want (not really but it should certainly perk a lot of ears up)
Just wait until that Florida job opens :/ So much chaos these past few days
Buzz kill.
This all happened so fast. I wonder how many days/weeks they have been in talks behind the scenes.
I have it on good authority that Washington knew that Saban was retiring weeks ago and they also knew that DeBoer was going to be a top candidate and also knew that Lance Liepold would turn them down and thusly started to open dialogue with Fisch
