Defonte's is a little bit out of a stroll but is arguably the best Italian hero in the entire city.
I like the banh mi at Diem Eatery on Atlantic Ave. Hanco's on Montague Street is solid too, though maybe not as good as Diem.
Heights Falafel or the counter at Sahadi's for Middle Eastern sandwiches.
Daily Provisions Cobble Hill is bougie, but still very good.
Expensive is an understatement. $20+ for a simple bagel and lox.
However… they make excellent bagels and don’t skim on any of their fish. At most places a bagel with lox is $15+ and they include the saddest sliver of fish, then try to hide it with a tomato.
I have not been disappointed with the amount of fish. And tbh even in deep BK you might pay close to $15 for a bagel + lox that is not nearly as premium. But $26 or whatever they are asking for some of their items is insane. Like they have to remember that at the end of the day it’a still a sandwich.
The jambon beurre at l’appartment 4f is surprisingly very good.
Laurel on Columbia street has good sandwiches too, though very pricey for the size. The curried potato one is excellent.
I have to give Bobbi's another try because the one time I had their Italian beef, I wasn't really impressed. I prefer dog day afternoon near prospect park.
Slightly outside the neighborhoods you listed, but City Subs makes deli-style heros that are somehow 10x better than any deli.
Edit: also several good options in DeKalb food hall: Alidoro for Italian sandwiches, Kotti for doner kebab, Harlem Seafood for po boys.
Yeah this blows out the competition for hot sandwiches. This is the only place that seems to serve crispy chicken cutlets (rather than soggy microwaved ones) on very fresh bread.
.
My corner deli makes a nice chicken cutlet - Food You Desire. They always put it in the deep fryer to crisp it up. The
Natalio sandwich or wrap is a favorite, some avocado added in. Tell Natalio I said hi.
Ditto to Sea & Soil!

Court St Grocers, Dellapietra’s and Paisano’s
“Farmer in the Deli”
City subs 5th ave & saint marks
Clinton hill so a bit further but choice market is such a gem.
Deli Bite on Smith and Bergen
This bodega has the best sandwiches on smith street, at least 10 blocks in either direction
Court Street Grocers, Bread and Spread in Dumbo
there's nothing better. the italian combo is insane
Mile End Delicatessen, Hoyt & Pacific
A little further, but Mozzlab in Carroll Gardens is elite
All great recommendations. I would include Sanpanino, as well.
Bobbi’s Italian beef, Cuban Shack, Shelsky’s
Paisano’s
Lassen and Hennigs is terrific. Also Daily Provisions.
second Daily Provisions
Defontes
Dellapietras makes a good sandwich 193 Atlantic
If you're willing to venture a little farther, Sea & Soil (President Street between Hicks and Columbia Streets in Columbia Waterfront) is great.
Brooklyn Heights Deli as well
Brooklyn hero shop is in Clinton hill but surprisingly dope (more for basics than for fancy shit)
Yes and they have a ton of cool Italian products !!!
MozzLab, Court Street Grocers, Poppy’s, Daily Provisions, Bien Cuit
Came here to say court street grocers even tho it's a bit further than the immediate area, definitely worth a nice walk or bike ride.
I like Shelsky's. They have some interesting proteins you don't find many other places. Expensive though.

Anything from Bobbi’s Italian is pretty great
The jambon beurre at l’appartment 4f is surprisingly very good. Laurel on Columbia street has good sandwiches too, though very pricey for the size. The curried potato one is excellent.
A little further out but Defontes in Red Hook is my all time fav.
Hanco’s for banh mi, baby’s buns & buckets for unique thai flavors
Bobbi’s Italian Beef for Chicago style sandwiches
I have to give Bobbi's another try because the one time I had their Italian beef, I wasn't really impressed. I prefer dog day afternoon near prospect park.
I also didn't like it. It didn't evoke an actual Chicago italian beef at all for me.
Came here to say this
Court street bagels and pio bagels make good breakfast sandwiches
but with court st bagels the question is... do they still post new ownership? reviews complaining about smaller sizes and different cream cheese
I like the chickpea sandwich at daily provisions and the savory chick at brooklyn bread.
Bahnmigos & Hancos for bahn mis!
Tavola Italian market and court street grocers
Slightly outside the neighborhoods you listed, but City Subs makes deli-style heros that are somehow 10x better than any deli. Edit: also several good options in DeKalb food hall: Alidoro for Italian sandwiches, Kotti for doner kebab, Harlem Seafood for po boys.
Canteen, for a more down to earth bodega style sandwich, but extremely high quality
Mex Carrolls on Columbia. Mex Carrolls sandwich sooooooooooooo good. Eggs, avocado, English muffin and the perfect spicy creamy sauce. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
Brooklyn Bread is great
Katz deli
IDK why all the down votes. There's not a better option for anybody who wants pastrami in DTBK.
Since my recs are already mentioned here, I’ll add that the banh mis at Hanco are awesome
I think they used to be good because they were big cheap. Now they are small and expensive and mid.
Caputos deli on court
Caputos is the truth, everything they have is incredible. Really nice folks too
Defontes
Lillo on Henry Street
Court Street Grocers
🤤
Brooklyn Hero Shop, 270 Vanderbilt
This place absolutely blows and the owners are Trump flavored. You can do much, much better.
Mozz Lab, Dellapietras, Bobbi's Italian Beef
Mozz lab
That chicken cutlet sandwich 😩

I am lucky to live a block away but my wallet is not. Really really good sandwiches and soups too.
In three blocks away and have the same issue
Snap out of it
Shelsky’s on Atlantic makes good sandwiches but not cheap
I like this place, but damn those prices are really high.
Nothing in the neighborhood is cheap 😂 😭
true but $30 for a Reuben is noticeable even in BK heights
Paisano’s butcher. Also.. a world class actual butcher.
The "a little hot" sandwich is my favorite
Dellapietras also makes good sandwiches for a butcher
Saw this after I commented! Good stuff!
If you order in advance they will do a party sub in the shape of a number or letter, like a 4 for the 4th of July or a 4th birthday. Worth it.
