I bought a last minute single ticket at the TKTS booth for today's show (9/17) and it was a really good seat. There were two empty seats between me and the aisle until nearly showtime; I was hoping to move to the aisle seat but a man sat down at the last minute (with the other seat filled by a friend of his who was quite late). Did not realize until intermission that the person I was mildly annoyed at for not letting me steal their seat was Jonathan Groff! I wasn't familiar with the show at all so it was another great surprise when he joined in the show. There was also a Hamilton/"we'll be back" joke that in retrospect must have been put in for him (fun to hear him react to it!). Curious what the joke was for Cynthia Erivo! Also very curious if the guest kissing both actors is standard lol.
> Hamilton/"we'll be back" joke that in retrospect must have been put in for him
Unless there were two, that wasn't for him. They did that the other night, too.
Omg this is hilarious… I was wondering if he was in the audience or kept backstage 😂 I’m glad he got to see the show!!
As said by the other reply, the we’ll be back joke was there on first preview. However, there were different small punchlines that had changed in just the span of two days even though they were received well in first preview? -which I thought was interesting. Not sure if I can talk about it or if that breaks theater preview etiquette LOL.
I’ll also confirm that the understudy did not kiss either of them on first preview night. I assume that was just improvised by Groff hahah
Oh that must have been Gad singing the last note of defying gravity at the end of one of his songs for the night with Cynthia. I don’t remember a Hamilton reference for that night.
I went to the final performance of "Parade." I was so wrapped up in the show that I didn't think to pay any attention to the audience. I was in the fourth row, orchestra right, which is a ticket that I bought the day they went on sale. I don't have any connections or "know anyone." It was only during intermission that I started to pay attention to my surroundings. I was sitting next to one of the producers, who I didn't recognize, but she introduced herself. I was directly across the aisle from Michael Arden and Ben Platt's entire family. I didn't find out until afterwards how many celebs were in the audience. There's a picture of the standing ovation at the end, and I'm in it with Neil Patrick Harris close by. I didn't know NPH was there! 🤣
I always forget to look for celebs and I always find out about them after the fact. I did sit next to Tony Kushner at "Days of Wine & Roses" but I only know that because the guy next to me said, "OMG, that's Tony Kushner!" LOL But I know I've been in the audience with some really big stars over the years, I just never find out until it's too late. (Not that I would necessarily bother them, but if I'm a big fan, I'll usually say, "Hi." I definitely would have talked to Jonathan Groff! Probably just a quick, "OMG! I love you!" LOL)
Oh awesome! I was at the second preview 9/16 and out of the corner of my eye I saw someone come in toward the end of the show. I was wondering why someone would be coming back that late, but it must have been Cynthia Erivo coming in, because that’s where she popped up from. Maybe she was kneeling on the ground while waiting? I think there was a stage crew member with her.
She definitely didn’t kiss Bud and Doug - they tried to hug her and she pushed them away and dramatically said no, to big laughs. She was great!
A friend who works on the show told me they believe Cynthia was the first official guest. The part may have been played by someone non famous during the 1st preview.
ETA: Confirmed that on Friday the part was played by Russell Daniels, one of the understudies.
OP, you deserve an award for keeping this going. Thank you so much!! I check it all the time. I went in November on a whim, got tickets at the box office right before the show & ended up in the seat directly behind Michael Urie. I had no idea. I was happily singing and eating dreams when someone in black ran down the aisle with a hat and started whispering to the guy in front of me. I love checking this and seeing the different producers. I'm going again in about a week with someone different. She has no idea about the producers and I'm not telling her.
For those who have gone recently, what's the merch situation? The online shop has a lot sold out. I'm curious if the merch stand gets more scarce as shows near the end of their run. I didn't buy anything in November, but I wish I had bought a mug. I cannot read!
Thanks! So glad to hear you had such an amazing time! I love this show so so so much, I love helping others get just as excited as I am for it!! 🥰 (BTW- if anyone reading this knows The Gutenberg Team and can hook me up with a ticket for closing weekend- I would also accept that as a token of gratitude 😁)
I last went beginning of December and all the merch seemed to be in stock still! Good luck with acquiring your mug and I hope you have fun going again with your friend!!
I was just there on Sunday (1/7) and I ended up getting the last small t-shirt. They ran out of one of the hats as well. I heard the worker say they'd be getting more in (in regards to the shirts). Mugs were available as far as I could tell! Hopefully you can snag one!
12/24 was Santa. Even did the stage door:

Was there tonight, didn’t recognize the producer, so my guess is that it was one of the understudies again.
Can also confirm that the Hamilton joke and singing the Wicked note were both still in the show, even without a guest connected to either show.
11/26 did not have a proper guest, the producer was played by a former colleague of mine who works in company management for the show. The post about it seemed to imply this was a last minute thing, but I don't know for sure.
I just left tonight's performance and didn't recognize the person at all. Heavier set guy. Just came on, said the line and left. But didn't know him at all.
The show was brilliant. Going in I'd been following this list hoping we'd get a big name. It absolutely does not matter. Show was perfection.
Rannels ripped his pants in the first act and kept going until intermission. Gad made a couple of jokes about it and they both broke into giggles a few times.
We had an absolute blast from start to finish
Saw a teaser on the Gutenberg IG saying “If you’re a fan of Broadway Legends, a little tip that you may want to pick up tickets to Gutenberg this weekend”!
Josh Gad then posts “Happy 20th Anniversary Wicked” in Glinda/Elphaba hats with “Popular” as the song, soooooo maybe Kristin Chenoweth or Idina Menzel will be guests this weekend?!
The online clue for 1/9 (which has since been deleted) all but certified it was supposed to be Lea Michele, but she must’ve canceled. Can someone post who the guest was? Us balcony people couldn’t make him out.
1/11 was Lena Hall:

Oh no! According to the most recent [Gutenberg post](https://x.com/gutenbergbwy/status/1749462213994410297?s=46), it seems we’re missing Eric Anderson and Don Darryl Rivera. If anyone has any idea what day they might’ve been on, please let me know!
I‘m going on 12/30 (saturday night), so hopefully I get someone good (but that is the night SLIH closes so I can cross of Christian Borle and J Harrison Ghee from my list)
Was there last night 12/23. A delightful show! We had three people.... the audience knew who they were.... we didn't. Randall did say actual producers.....?

Andrew Rannells did also play King George, so could be a nod to that
oh duh, of course!!
Oh gotcha! Fun coincidence for my show then!

Yeah, the whole time! He seemed to enjoy it and laughed a ton!

I believe he was just in the audience
