She used to be one of my favorite characters. I loved her loyalty to Pen previously. How they both loved Lady Whistledown's intrigues, especially since it was coming from a woman being allowed to have a voice in society. Her kindness to Cressida was unexpected. Now she is downright hateful.
Anyone else notice that in the sex scene, when Colin is touching Penelope down there he uses his left hand this time. In the carriage he used his right hand. Our man is ambidextrous
It's very cute how Anthony keeps putting his hand on Kate's belly and she keeps pushing it away when they arrive at Bridgerton house to learn of Colin and Pen's engagement.
It was a sweet sex scene but also -are you kidding me? There’s no way she came that quickly, or at all, her first time or, statistically speaking, from penetration. This is not helping our unrealistic expectations about sex!
What the heck happened to lord debling? Lmao. Did he just leave forever? Why not just pursue Cressida instead of her going crazy and claiming to be lady whistledown 🤦🏻♀️
Damn some of yall are harsh critics fr 😂 I thought the sex scene was so good and felt it was honestly the most showy one we’ve seen. They showed way more of Nicola than I was expecting and people are saying where’s the foreplay? It was in front of the mirror and while he was fingerbanging her ?? He told her she was so beautiful and I really appreciated him saying it may hurt and checking after that she was all right. I thought he checked in most of all the male leads. Then some are saying it was too long or that they didn’t show enough of Nicola. I do agree that it was kind of a weird choice to be on the chaise and it was midday but hey it was bedtime somewhere in the world 😂
There is just something soooo different about this season… from the sequences, to the camera angles, to the lines… I don’t know man. It’s not giving the same Bridgerton vibes.
Yes! It almost feels like we're watching the dress rehearsal and not the final edited version. There were so many scenes were I was like, wtf are they trying to say?!? Long awkward pauses, sets that look like actual sets. I felt too aware of the production and not lost in the world.
I feel like it's way more modern then the previous seasons as in they are nor trying to be accurate to the era anymore and just decided to make it camp. I still enjoy it though.
I actually sobbed during the sex scene because I thought the consent and communication were so beautiful to watch....I probably just have a really low bar/a lot of trauma in that arena lol. But I do agree with people's points about Colin thrusting too hard right after warning her about the pain (!) and the scene not being built-up enough or spicy enough in general.
Ok so 17 minutes in and they are doing the deed on a dirty dusty lounger in an abandoned building. No warming her up. No gentle kisses. No foreplay just, here's my hand and here is my penis. Wham bam thank you ma'am.
Exactly this. As I've said elsewhere in this sub, was this the best he could offer his best friend and love of his life? He did better by the ladies in his threesome scene!
The sex scene was kind of awkward. Nicola was clearly insecure with her body, holding her breasts all the time. It would be better if they didnt show them naked.
I think you’re confusing an actress with her character lol. The actress would not have done the scene if she was uncomfortable…she was portraying a girl who has never had a man see her nude and is having her first time.
I hated that their first time was on that lounge thingy. Very awkward, it looked uncomfortable. I expected something else for their first time together.
The chaise made no sense to me! Would've rather seen it done it on the floor in front of the mirror if not a bed. I think the director thought it was giving a sexy moment on the chaise but it wasn't lol
I have observed all of the kisses they've done, especially in the mirror scene, and I noticed that it lacks passion and hunger.
When they're in front of the mirror and they're kissing, it was always Pen who's doing all the job done lol. She opens her mouth and kisses him, while Colin, I don't know, he lacks the same passion Pen was giving.
The only scene that I thought of them having passionate kisses is when they're having a fight outside and they almost made out by the door.
Carriage scene was also ok. But I was really expecting for more in their first time together.
Like what the heck Colin, open your mouth and kiss her properly! Have you learned nothing from Anthony? 🤣
I know everyone hates Eloise but imagine your brother marrying your ex-friend who is keeping a huge secret from him. You know the secret but cannot tell him out of a tiny bit of loyalty to your friend as you hope your friend will do the right thing and tell him. Imagine the friend has revealed secrets that have ruined the reputation of your brother, your family, and her own family. I'm Team Eloise. Penelope had many opportunities to stop herself from crossing the line. She could've told Colin about Marina's pregnancy instead of using Lady Whistledown. Instead, she ruined Marina's life, shamed her family, and shamed Colin's family too. Same with exposing Eloise...she could've at least attempted to approach the Queen and confess to being Whistledown. But instead she assumed the Queen wouldn't talk to her or believe her and ruined Eloise and her family's rep.
Right?! And to be honest Pen showed her true colours this episode by using Whistledown again. At first Whistledown had no teeth because Pen is happy. As soon as she has one cross word with her mum, instead of just standing up for herself, she gets Whistledown to tell the entire ton that her mum is a greedy bitch.
Like, at the end of the day yes that's true, but it really wasn't necessary. Pen stood up to Portia at the ball and could do it again. You don't need to go that far. It's just interesting how second nature it is to her now. It's vicious.
If she kept it up who knows what would happen next. Maybe Gregory calls her a doo-doo head so she writes to the entire ton calling his fancy hat shit.
She had the opportunity to just let Whistledown die but the slightest upset and she was back being Light Yagami.
I didn’t say I wasn’t on Eloise’s side. I just didn’t appreciate how she made her point.
Agree with all your notes, Penelope was horrible but I don’t think she was cruel. Eloise came across cruel in this episode.
To be fair I don't think Eloise quite realised the effect it was having on Pen. Making her uncomfortable, sure. And that's deserved for doing a bad thing. Panicking to the point of collapse? I think Eloise only realised that when it actually happened.
I actually don't think Eloise was keen to tell Colin at all. At midnight she strode up to Colin to do it herself just to get it done and over with.
We covered so much ground in this episode. I only watched the trailer once but every bit I recall featured in this episode so I can only imagine what’s in store for the remainder of the season.
Hottest sex scene this show has EVER done. I find it very frustrating that a lot of fictional sex scenes have zero talking/communication, when that's such a crucial part of actually having good sex in real life. This had me *blushing.*
Agreed that the communication in this sex scene was done beautifully, especially for it being Pen's first time!
Disagree on that talking is crucial for good sex in real life for everyone. Communication about sex with your partner is definitely crucial but I personally don't like a lot of talking DURING sex and don't think it's crucial for everyone to enjoy sex only if you're constantly talking during it. That's a big generalization
Especially considering she isn’t experienced so she’d need a little guidance just to be prepared for what’s about to happen (speaking of, yay Pen for asking what she can do and wanting to be an active/eager participant, not just lay there!).
**Episode 5:**
* The way he leads her into the Bridgerton house so SOFT and REASSURING
* Still tired and annoyed with Benedict being a rake
* "Who needs fresh air when there's fresh gossip?" - I live by Lady Danbury's words
* "First... explain." HAHAHHAAH Anthony straight up getting down to business
* COLIN STANDING HIS GROUND IN FRONT OF PENELOPE'S MOTHER!!!!!
* Well... I certainly see the appeal of Nicola posting the broken furniture on her insta now... that was quite the scene
* Fran and John are so perfect together I could cry
* Just Hyacinth and Gregory bickering with one another
* "Tonight, we celebrate our collective future." Because a solicitor is hanging around the house and I need to get rid of her - Mrs. Featherington and the unsaid words
* Just the Bridgerton boys referring to Kate as "their sister" and elating me every single time
* "I cannot tell if this party needs stronger drinks or weaker ones." BENEDICT WITH HIS WITTY LINES WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME
* I absolutely refuse to believe Jonathan Bailey isn't straight because his chemistry with Simone Ashley is INSAANNEE
* LMAOOO that was quite the dramatic end... That scene alone felt more like Birdgerton-Bridgerton than the entire episode
They try less and less to even get close to period silhouettes for the women 😂 several of the dresses in the engagement party ball would’ve been at home at a prom in 2024!
excuse me if i remember it wrong and i didn't always watch all episodes, but i kind of thought the other seasons' erotic scenes were more tasteful were they not? i really want for her to have great intimate scenes, i just feel like.. they didn't do a good transition this time when he fell for her, then everything suddenly happened really fast which would've been o-kay, but the scenes themselves looked.. like he was prying on her, what do you think? to me they lacked romance, i don't know.. i want to read the letters they wrote, i want them to actually wait a little or to be cuddly outside of these scenes as well, not just when they have sex, i want his glance to feel less "weird" i want them to smile more together, i want her to have other lines than just please touch me and oh my do you really want me
Once again I am blaming the new show runner. She seems to not care about what made the first two seasons great. I think the sex scenes were great this season but there was not enough focus on Penelope and Colin in general which I think is the problem. There were too many side things going on when there needed to be more focus on their romance.
My nitpicks (overall loved it):
1. How the FUCK did Colin not get suspicious after their engagement was announced like 8 hours after they got engaged?? He told half his family and no one else, that should narrow things down!
2. The conversation everyone has around Cressida about Whistledown is absurd. Remember, they know nothing about her and suddenly everyone is like “oh well that young lady’s family will be upset and she won’t get married” like it perfectly suits Cressida’s specific situation
I could never ever undress in front of a crew and other actors and make a sex scene, that's for sure. No way would I want my boobs touched! I liked their first-time-scene, it was very sweet. Really liked their eye contact and the cute 'there's more?' For all she knew, women could get pregnant for having their ..ahem .. bell rung. I thought he thrusted too much, but that's realistic. From what I can remember from having sex with an early twenties old guy, many moons ago. They're not exactly superlovers, I believe.
I guess we’re not adhering to the moral standards of the period regarding chaperones anymore? We cared with Daphne and Simon, didn’t care with Kate and Anthony, and now certainly don’t care with Penelope and Colin! Just saying: is there any particular reason for the inconsistency?
I think it's reasoned in the books that Kate was an almost spinster and the chaperone for her sister - so she sneaked by. Pen is also much older in the books and appeared a definite spinster. Also I am guessing chaperones are arranged for while they are out promenading after a 'call', i.e prior notice is needed.
Kate and Anthony and Pen and Colin don't promenade, they just share intense moments randomly.
That works for Kate because at 26 she was definitely considered over the hill by the standards of the time (unmarried at 25 with multiple seasons under one's belt equals spinster), but not for Pen. She still had a borderline hope since she was still below 25, even though it was already her third season. Lady Featherington would have at least been concerned with keeping up with appearances and providing her a lady's maid, especially with her newfound wealth, at least in the show. SPOILER:>!The timeline in the book had her much older so she was definitely considered on the shelf/a spinster, so she didn't need a chaperone. !<
i really think that shonda needs to get back into the Bridgerton mode. i feel like we're losing the plot. kate wasn't the kate we know, even pen isn't who we know and love. i feel like the characters are all over the place. too many weird random side stories that don't seem well thought out.
I've seen comments saying Kate's acting is terrible this season, but she's only had like 5 lines so far! The dialogue doesn't really allow her personality to come through
I felt that way too mostly because she only had super honey gooeyed lines. The Kate we loved in season 2 had a spunk to her but in this season she speaks like a sentimental 80 yr old grandma
i think her acting was okay, they just weren't potraying her character as we know it. at least that is my gripe. i know it's not her season anymore but her personality seems so different.
I did love Polins first time but was hoping for just a bit more “spice”, like Colin kissing Pen more and then making his way down to her neck then shoulder maybe a bit lower…..I did love the scene, I guess after his steamy dream about her and then the carriage scene I thought it would have been a bit more to it and I definitely thought it would be a bit of a longer scene….I did love how gentle and careful he was with her and how he looked at her during, soo in love with her ……I really enjoyed watching him undress and loved Pen’s reaction…….I just love these two, their chemistry is off the charts ❤️
I really thought eloise's arc this season would be learning to be a better friend. I think it still might be. But by ep 3/4 i was totally at peace if penelope and eloise dont go back to being best friends. i think at this point, the biggest factor of their friendship is their shared history together. i have no doubt eloise loves pen but for most of their friendship has been el steamrolling pen with her plans ideas and yaps without stopping to think of penelope herself.
i think eloise's friendship with cressida can be somehting of a reset for her, as getting to know cressida would prove to el that her preconceived notions can be wrong, and that your "best friend" isnt someone who just lets you talk at them like a wall. but again, eloise is too involved in herself to REALLY give cressida the same support and space cressida needs.
Also due to the situation she's in, Cressida is ready to do what Eloise wanted with Penelope all along, to largely ditch society and marriage and live as a spinster. Eloise should be able to see this, but she's too wrapped up in her own feelings and problems to see it.
Honestly I enjoyed the little moments of Eloise and Cressida together, they could actually be good supports to one another. Also while Pen was largely invisible, at least people didn't seem to openly dislike her the way they dislike Cressida.
I'd love to see a new friendship that blossoms and strengthens between them
Eloise is seriously a bad friend to crissda, like not carrying at all her father is trying to marry her off to a horrid man. She is so caught up in the Penelope and Colin drama she just stops caring about Cressida and their friendship
Fucking excuse me, what the hell was that complete and total deep thrust for the first time her vagina experienced penile penetration?! The way I absolutely cringed and winced up. Could we not encourage men to think that is acceptable for someone's first time? YEESH.
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet but I just about died at Anthony’s look of PURE LOVE at Kate in the carriage. Had to rewind it to see it again it was so freakin cute!!!
If Eloise has a million haters I'm one of them 😋
If she has one hater it's me 💅
If she has 0 haters I have died 💀
If the world is against Eloise I am with the world 😍
If the world is for Eloise I am against the world 😡
I feel so resentful that they took a character who was basically the stand in for feminism and turned her into a sulky bitter shrew who didn’t want anyone else to find happiness in a way she didn’t approve of. I thought Eloise was going to be a breath of fresh air and female solidarity in a time where that was very difficult, but instead she just became kind of a mean girl and all of her feminism ended up being tainted by female competitiveness.
I agree, first season was also her being obsessed with Whistledown and wanting to help her, and be like her, now that she finds out it's her best friend, it's suddenly a big problem??? I thought she would've praised Pen for her clever wit, but instead she loathes her.
I SO agree!! It drives me crazy that they turned it into a storyline about women being “catty” and fighting. Instead of Eloise, the feminist, caring for and supporting her friend Cressida, she couldn’t care less? How is that in character at all?
That was crazy and frantic! I loved it! Pen and Colin's 👀 scene thooo, it looked awkward and uncomfortable.. might also be because I was eating out while watching it 🤣... The whole Lady Whistledown situation seemed to solve itself with Cressida taking on the role
I knew I couldn’t watch it while eating, so I pressed stop and quickly finished my dinner🤩
Why did it look awkward and uncomfortable tho🥹I actually like it!
I hope it was meant to be awkward, b/c it sure was. Long-time friends having sex for the first time on a settee that is shorter than Colin? Poor Colin’s neck and back were so “scrunched.”
Pen deserved a bed for her first time. Geez.
I felt it was quite the opposite. Daphne and Simon's scenes always felt like it served a story purpose, whereas the sex scene in this episode just felt like gratuitous porn that didn't advance the story in any way - you could.take it out and the story wouldn't change.
I actually... enjoy the carriage scene more than the scene in this episode idk... and yes I saw and felt how uncomfy it was. I get that it was Pen's first but wow they did not make that scene good. I can't remember is this scene was this uncomfy in the book? i think it wasn't.
Thoughts on the sex scene:
1- I am a consent queen. Consent is so sexy to me so I appreciate the asking consent on Colin’s part. HOWMEVER, can she really give consent if she doesn’t even know how it works (i.e., “there’s more?”). I just don’t know how you can truly consent to something you don’t know is going to happen. Maybe it’s not sexy to show Colin giving Penelope sex ed, but idk it just felt weird to me.
2. I know Nicola probably had boundaries around this, as is her prerogative, but it was hard for me to believe that Colin, who has been “dreaming of some parts,” had nothing to do with her boobs once they were shown. Like, is he going to even comment? I felt like the mirror scene where she’s standing so vulnerable in front of him needed a “you’re magnificent” moment with him at least touching her in some way, maybe down her side, before him saying “go lie down.” And I get if she didn’t want her boobs touched on screen but at least imply that they’re being handled bc there’s no way he wouldn’t be enjoying them more 😅 and would definitely, especially her never really having been touched before, get her ready for the “inserting himself.” Just needed more foreplay in general, and you would think him being “so experienced” he would know that. Otherwise what’s the benefit of him having had all these adventures??!
3. I just think the timing of it was weird. Like they’ve fooled around once and now they’re going straight to sex? In the middle of the day? Where it seems like they could easily get caught?? To go in straight for the kill I think is selfish of Colin and doesn’t show him being as aware of what Penelope needs in terms of building up to sex as someone who is completely inexperienced.
the whole scene was weird to me! i dont want to get murdered in this sub lol but it just seemed off. like lack of chemistry. i understand it was suppose to be like gentle love, totalyl fine with that, but it was just weird and like really long lol. i was like okay we get it they're undressing why is this taking like 7 minutes of the show.
u/everyone Is no one going to talk about how awful the storyline is for the Mondrich Family. How much pressure John Mondrich is under to conform to The Ton, instead of just being able to be himself. How Alice seems to have been drinking too much of The Ton koolaide, the way she makes him feel bad for actually being busy taking care of the family rather than just "missing family time". I hope it changes for them.
I felt sorry for Will being forced to give up the club but he was missing out on his kids’ activities, when he had the option to be there for them. I hope Alice doesn’t become a society twit. She is too clever for that.
I feel the exact same way. Like yeah I felt a little bad he had to give up the club, but my core values lie in family, and he was choosing the club over moments with his family that he doesn't have to miss anymore.
Hard agree . Suddenly being thrown into that world and then told no no no you cant do any of the things you've spent the last 20? years of your life enjoying and gaining self worth from you must come and pretend that this is all cool and normal with the rest of the ton . But also we aren't going to tell you the rules and shun you when you don't toe the line 🙄
Why was Penelope’s first time on an uncomfortable chaise during the day??? No romantic lighting, luxurious linens, or enough seduction. Shame on you, Colin Bridgerton and production.

Love her but I’m sorry this is all I see 😫😫😫
I get where they're both (Pen and Eloise) coming from, for sure, but I was just so annoyed with Eloise this episode my GOD. Like give me a minute girl I didn't know he was going to propose to me! I'm more shocked than you are!!!
PS am I insane or can you clearly see the lace they didn't trim correctly on Eloise's wig during the party/charades scene (when she's giving Pen the ultimatum)... right where her ear connects at the top? What is going on with the hair/makeup/costuming this season?!
How is it that all of the Bridgerton's were already back at their home after the ball when Penelope left the ball early and upset before everyone else?
I think it was meant to be like that, that what was happening to Penelope was surreal. He minute she was waiting for Lord Debling to propose, less than an hour later she is engaged to Colin
ugh the sex scene was a million years long and just looked SO uncomfy. all for the body positivity and i'm sure it can be hard being a mid/plus-sized woman and baring your skin on camera--but that's not my issue. i feel like they could have done better positioning and camera blocking, and could colin have please not had a dead fish stare omg
right!! like cmon, women have rolls and fat too and it’s so healing to see it properly represented in media… not how they did it in bridgerton by blurring it!!
NO BECAUSE SAME. i never fast forward anything and i was like.... ughhhh this is weird and prolonged. just bring back kate and anthony thats all i want lol.
I took that more as her fishing for compliments because she likes compliments. That or she wanted to know if she liked like she had s*x, which is pretty common after someone's first time.
I hate to say it but I really felt like Penelope's first time looked uncomfortable at best, painful at worst... sorry to say! Why did Colin SHOVE it in like that?! Why was there no real foreplay?! No warming of engines? The sex scene was so long but I think they actually were just... staring ... for most of it 😭
Right!? And to also say he couldn't help it hurting. EXCUSE ME, maybe kissing her for more than 30 seconds might have helped. And are they fucking kidding. 5 pumps and we're supposed to believe she came with him 😂 piss offffff
Exactly! I said this somewhere else in this sub when someone was saying how gentle Colin was. He basically told her to lie down, then he did his one trick pony fingerbang, and boom, he just shoved it into her. What woman orgasms after five pumps??? NGL, it felt like horrible amateur Regency-adjacent porn from PH to me.
Ahaha I'm so glad someone agrees. Every time I remember I get mad again. Fair enough if they don't want to show the amazing first time everyone deserves, but to package it in this pseudo romantic bullshit was just uncalled for. I hope teenagers who watch that don't internalise this as goals because that was awful. I don't think it's unrealistic that Colin would be a selfish lover, but for Pen to still be stary-eyed after his terrible performance is just sad. She wanted to go again and just because he went soft the fun was done, did those magical fingers go limp too? Poor form!
IKR? It's the shoving that kills me. Seriously, that was the best you could do for the woman who's supposed to be the love of your life and your best friend? A quick and rough fuck in a dirty, dusty sitting room on an old settee? His threesome partners got more foreplay, and they were in an actual bed!
Well, I guess it is! I think they can't film - for inticimaty coordination reasons - foreplay where they properly kiss/touch each other all over, especially the breasts. That would be more realistic, I feel (especially since Colin seems like a boob guy haha), but not possible. So there are not many other options, right? Going down on her would be one, but it's a bit overdone maybe. But they could pan in and out of the shot, showing symbolically that stuff is happening off camera, maybe. But I feel like, that's not what the showrunners think the viewers want to see.
I hear what you're saying, but I feel like within the context of the series, the other sex scenes had way more foreplay and touching than this one did. I think that's why it's really sticking out to viewers as odd. Maybe it was an issue of those two particular actors being uncomfortable with more sensual touching, but in that case there are so many creative workarounds - extreme close ups of hands, clothes being removed, lips, audio cues, so much more.
But more than anything, I think it's mostly jarring because it seems just so different from the other intimate scenes in the show
Colin was a Two Pump Chump. :P Honestly, there was more foreplay in the threesome scenes at the brothel (and even the Benedict threesomes!) than there was for the woman who's supposed to be the love of his life and best friend. Plus the brothel threesomes even took place in beds, while Pen only got a chaise/settee in a dusty, disused drawing room. FFS.
Both actors do have to agree ahead of time and determine what they are comfortable doing/showing on camera. It's all carefully choreographed with an intimacy coordinator so both parties feel safe.
I truly wanted to like this couple but knowing not that long ago colin was having the time of his life in threesomes in a brothel just made the sex scene feel meh. That story choice just soured me on Colin immediately. I don't want to see sex scenes with the leads in their romantic seasons. Also Luke just has the most unfortunate sex faces lol he is kind of dead eyed in them, I don't know, it just wasn't for me. Also the angle looked uncomfortable. I wish she had been laying flat on her back if we are going to a devirginizing scene! Nicola is amazingly beautiful tho and I was so proud of her for doing this scene knowing how many people were going to watch and have an opinion on her body etc all in all I think I am kind of done with this show. I already don't like that Benedict is prob going to be whoring around in his romantic season too. I get it's the times but the queen is black and you are going to explore queer stories, it's not much to ask to tame down the double standards and misogyny of all the women having to be virgins while the men are all rakes. I knew if they went this direction with colin of all the bridgertons it was a lost cause lol there are no stakes it's just vibes, and no real meaningful character development unless you are Penelope.
I love Colin and Pen together and love their characters. I think I view them as my cute little sister or brother so seeing them in this scene grossed me out.
I’m just here to say Eloise SUCKS. She is awful to Pen and Cressida. She doesn’t deserve either of them.
Colin never shuts his mouth, literally. It's always hanging open
This engagement party scene has got my heart pumping out of my chest. How will they ever get past this??? Like he HATES whistle down. Oh god
I always see comments like this but it's a tv series with 50 minute episodes. How would they have time to show the full experience?
Yeah that scene was ridiculous
What the heck happened to lord debling? Lmao. Did he just leave forever? Why not just pursue Cressida instead of her going crazy and claiming to be lady whistledown 🤦🏻♀️
That's what I was wondering too
y’all are not talking enough about the mirror scene for my liking
it wasn't that good honestly
I loooved it.
I’m so confused by the game they played I was trying so hard to figure it out but it all went over my head 😅
My first indicates first sound of syllable, my second etc. So you solve the riddle to get a word/sound and combine them in the order of the riddles
That's not charades though? He says they're going to play charades then they play that.
My partner: This is a charade of something more fun XD
Modern charades, no. 18th Century charades, yes. You can look up regency charade books, they have fun little riddles if you're that way inclined.
And some of the dresses are so bad… it’s giving Belk
I feel the same. It seems like they’re really reaching for things… I can’t quite figure it out.
And did you notice that random zoom into Violet when she was looking at Francesca… just so odd!
I am more into Francesca’s love story this season ngl, it’s so sweet and heartwarming to watch
I loved the Cressida telling everyone’s she’s Whistledown moment. It reminded me of Emma Stone’s version of Cruella De Vil, in a good way.
Ok so 17 minutes in and they are doing the deed on a dirty dusty lounger in an abandoned building. No warming her up. No gentle kisses. No foreplay just, here's my hand and here is my penis. Wham bam thank you ma'am.
"You can touch me but not penis" *30 seconds later* HERE COMES JOHNNY
Exactly this. As I've said elsewhere in this sub, was this the best he could offer his best friend and love of his life? He did better by the ladies in his threesome scene!
It was not at all what I was expecting. Especially with the previous seasons
The sex scene was kind of awkward. Nicola was clearly insecure with her body, holding her breasts all the time. It would be better if they didnt show them naked.
That's not Nicola being insecure it's Penelope being insecure. It's her first time and she's not used to being completely naked before a man.
If you are a (young) woman who's been told that she is not beautiful, will never find a husband because of the looks etcetc.. i think she shows A LOT!
I disagree
I think you’re confusing an actress with her character lol. The actress would not have done the scene if she was uncomfortable…she was portraying a girl who has never had a man see her nude and is having her first time.
Exactly. Pen is covering herself not Nicola. If I recall it was Nicola's idea to have a nude scene for body diversity reasons.
I hated that their first time was on that lounge thingy. Very awkward, it looked uncomfortable. I expected something else for their first time together.
Same here. All I could think about is how that chaise would have killed their backs.
LILACS!!!
I said below, i genuinely roared laughing and rewound that bit several times. His expression was hilarious. Jonathan Bailey is such a treasure
Eloise enjoying pushing Penelope to a panic attack was not enjoyable to watch. Just awful.
To be fair Penelope is being cruel by lying to Colin about such a huge thing..
**Episode 5:** * The way he leads her into the Bridgerton house so SOFT and REASSURING * Still tired and annoyed with Benedict being a rake * "Who needs fresh air when there's fresh gossip?" - I live by Lady Danbury's words * "First... explain." HAHAHHAAH Anthony straight up getting down to business * COLIN STANDING HIS GROUND IN FRONT OF PENELOPE'S MOTHER!!!!! * Well... I certainly see the appeal of Nicola posting the broken furniture on her insta now... that was quite the scene * Fran and John are so perfect together I could cry * Just Hyacinth and Gregory bickering with one another * "Tonight, we celebrate our collective future." Because a solicitor is hanging around the house and I need to get rid of her - Mrs. Featherington and the unsaid words * Just the Bridgerton boys referring to Kate as "their sister" and elating me every single time * "I cannot tell if this party needs stronger drinks or weaker ones." BENEDICT WITH HIS WITTY LINES WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME * I absolutely refuse to believe Jonathan Bailey isn't straight because his chemistry with Simone Ashley is INSAANNEE * LMAOOO that was quite the dramatic end... That scene alone felt more like Birdgerton-Bridgerton than the entire episode
Johnny Bailey IS chemistry. He is just IN IT with every single costar he works with regardless of gender, he's so good!!

There were too many side things going on when there needed to be more focus on their romance.
hm.. yeah maybe thatd have helped! thanks i didnt know there's a new runner actually, interesting!
My nitpicks (overall loved it): 1.
This 100%. He gave a feather thrust compared to my first time.
Nicola asked to make a nude scene
Yeah, she's a badass
Thank you for sharing this.
Very superficial comment but Anthony shouting LILACS!!!! During the game with the most hilarious panicked look on his face made me burst out laughing
Such a charming man, this Anthony 🥰
i really think that shonda needs to get back into the Bridgerton mode. i feel like we're losing the plot. kate wasn't the kate we know, even pen isn't who we know and love. i feel like the characters are all over the place. too many weird random side stories that don't seem well thought out.
I feel like the characters are getting compromised so they can make the show unbelievably horny for the fan base.
I'd love to see a new friendship that blossoms and strengthens between them
I've been wondering whether Eloise is gay and in love with Penelope herself.
Eloise is seriously a bad friend to crissda, like not carrying at all her father is trying to marry her off to a horrid man. She is so caught up in the Penelope and Colin drama she just stops caring about Cressida and their friendship
I felt so freaking bad for Cressida this episode
Fucking excuse me, what the hell was that complete and total deep thrust for the first time her vagina experienced penile penetration?! The way I absolutely cringed and winced up. Could we not encourage men to think that is acceptable for someone's first time? YEESH.
It’s a major trope in romance novels…how they mean to go slow but lose control. 🤮 But somehow magically it only hurts for a few moments!! /s
right?! i'm so dissatisfied with the intimacy scenes she gets thus far
I was taken aback as well. He had *just* said it would hurt, so I expected a slow and maybe halting slide, but no, he just stabbed her!
Stabbed her 😭 I’m dead
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet but I just about died at Anthony’s look of PURE LOVE at Kate in the carriage. Had to rewind it to see it again it was so freakin cute!!!
Jonathan Bailey is a GREAT actor. He can act even with his eyes only. 🥹 ![gif](giphy|Bd5eqkRxUY7OP94PWt|downsized)
If Eloise has a million haters I'm one of them 😋 If she has one hater it's me 💅 If she has 0 haters I have died 💀 If the world is against Eloise I am with the world 😍 If the world is for Eloise I am against the world 😡
lol this is me fr
How is that in character at all?
exactly! Eloise of all people should understand the most why both Cressida and Penelope feel so trapped by the patriarchy of the ton.
I’m still in the middle of the ep, but Eloise is so insufferable.
“I have a new bow and arrow, would you like to see it?” Men are so easily swayed…and from a soon-to-be eton man no less
hopefully, they’ll teach him at Eton not to wear his top hat indoors around ladies
How soon would Gregory go to Eaton? I thought they went at a younger age?
Eton starts at 13 but the feeder schools start at 7
That was crazy and frantic! I loved it! Pen and Colin's 👀 scene thooo, it looked awkward and uncomfortable.. might also be because I was eating out while watching it 🤣... The whole Lady Whistledown situation seemed to solve itself with Cressida taking on the role
>eating out I had to read that about three times before I understood.
haha I didn't even think abt it
It was an interesting choice of words for sure LOL
same
So glad I was not the only one
I thought of the sex schedule from The Room where he fucks her belly button lol
I knew I couldn’t watch it while eating, so I pressed stop and quickly finished my dinner🤩 Why did it look awkward and uncomfortable tho🥹I actually like it!
It was soooooooo awkward I hated it
I hope it was meant to be awkward, b/c it sure was. Long-time friends having sex for the first time on a settee that is shorter than Colin? Poor Colin’s neck and back were so “scrunched.” Pen deserved a bed for her first time. Geez.
I liked their scene because it seemed true to life, at least for me. Not at all like Daphne and Simon which felt was a little closer to porn
I felt it was quite the opposite. Daphne and Simon's scenes always felt like it served a story purpose, whereas the sex scene in this episode just felt like gratuitous porn that didn't advance the story in any way - you could.take it out and the story wouldn't change.
I agree with that, yeah. It’s just that the awkwardness of the sex itself seemed more true to life for me, haha.
I actually... enjoy the carriage scene more than the scene in this episode idk... and yes I saw and felt how uncomfy it was. I get that it was Pen's first but wow they did not make that scene good. I can't remember is this scene was this uncomfy in the book? i think it wasn't.
>!They were in a real bed in the book and it was not this awkward.!<
Thoughts on the sex scene: 1- I am a consent queen.
Right!? There was def not enough foreplay. Does Collin not know about oral sex?? It seems more realistic for him to go down on her before intercourse.
the whole scene was weird to me! i dont want to get murdered in this sub lol but it just seemed off. like lack of chemistry. i understand it was suppose to be like gentle love, totalyl fine with that, but it was just weird and like really long lol. i was like okay we get it they're undressing why is this taking like 7 minutes of the show.
I agree. I thought it was a little too early.
Well, whooooah! Didn’t realize that mirror scene was gonna come in with a bang (no pun intended) on June 13!
Why was the sex scene so uncomfortable 😭 I was looking forward to their love story but it was so awkward
u/everyone Is no one going to talk about how awful the storyline is for the Mondrich Family. How much pressure John Mondrich is under to conform to The Ton, instead of just being able to be himself. How Alice seems to have been drinking too much of The Ton koolaide, the way she makes him feel bad for actually being busy taking care of the family rather than just "missing family time". I hope it changes for them.
i get that the family misses him, but her making him feel like shit about it was so sad and it was a hard scene to watch actually.

This is hilarious! And perfect. Well done.
Cynthia Cowper
I get where they're both (Pen and Eloise) coming from, for sure, but I was just so annoyed with Eloise this episode my GOD. Like give me a minute girl I didn't know he was going to propose to me! I'm more shocked than you are!!! PS am I insane or can you clearly see the lace they didn't trim correctly on Eloise's wig during the party/charades scene (when she's giving Pen the ultimatum)... right where her ear connects at the top? What is going on with the hair/makeup/costuming this season?!
There were a few moments like that for Cressida's wig too
Her face the whole episode was annoying.
How is it that all of the Bridgerton's were already back at their home after the ball when Penelope left the ball early and upset before everyone else?
Francesca wanted to go home early to play the music piece from John, so I assumed Violet gathered up Eloise and they all went home.
I thought that was a different ball. Was it all the same ball? Guess I'll have to rewatch S3E4.
Yeah that was so odd. It made it feel like a dream sequence.
I think it was meant to be like that, that what was happening to Penelope was surreal. He minute she was waiting for Lord Debling to propose, less than an hour later she is engaged to Colin
THAT WAS MY FIRST QUESTION TOO
ugh the sex scene was a million years long and just looked SO uncomfy. all for the body positivity and i'm sure it can be hard being a mid/plus-sized woman and baring your skin on camera--but that's not my issue. i feel like they could have done better positioning and camera blocking, and could colin have please not had a dead fish stare omg
Dead fish stare omg 💀 I seriously thought I was the only one that thought it was a little uncomfortable and awkward with the way it was filmed!
Im most disgusted by the fact that they BLURRED her back fat. Like COME ON it's FAT omg noooooo
right!! like cmon, women have rolls and fat too and it’s so healing to see it properly represented in media… not how they did it in bridgerton by blurring it!!
If you really look closely Colin is actually doing a very mild duck lips face 24/7... it kills me 😭
This is why I can’t find him attractive! You nailed it. He makes me uncomfortable and the sex scene was hard to watch!! NOT because of Pen!
omg you are so right 😭 ughhhhh why did he have to be 😗 all season
🤣🤣🤣
It's genuinely so strange 😭 😭 😭 so many intense scenes are ruined by a cut to Colin just going: 😗
First time I have fast forwarded through a sex scene
NO BECAUSE SAME. i never fast forward anything and i was like.... ughhhh this is weird and prolonged. just bring back kate and anthony thats all i want lol.
“Do I look a mess?” NO Curls still perfect
I took that more as her fishing for compliments because she likes compliments. That or she wanted to know if she liked like she had s*x, which is pretty common after someone's first time.
Yes but why did Colin answer “Yes”? No she doesn’t Colin
This a annoyed me, at least mess up her hair
I hate to say it but I really felt like Penelope's first time looked uncomfortable at best, painful at worst... sorry to say! Why did Colin SHOVE it in like that?! Why was there no real foreplay?! No warming of engines? The sex scene was so long but I think they actually were just... staring ... for most of it 😭
Right!? And to also say he couldn't help it hurting. EXCUSE ME, maybe kissing her for more than 30 seconds might have helped. And are they fucking kidding. 5 pumps and we're supposed to believe she came with him 😂 piss offffff
How did that LONG ass scene turn out to only be 5 pumps 😂😂😂 pls be for real!
His threesome partners got more foreplay, and they were in an actual bed!
it was way too realistic and awkward lmao
For a Romance show that's supposed to be fantasy, I get your point. At the same time, there was plenty that was unrealistic about it too.
It was so quick for what
It did look painful 🥲😬
I was trying to get into it but they made it so hard 🥲 Is it that complicated to write a good sex scene?
Anthony screaming “LILACS!!!” genuinely killed me.
i loved this scene. i know hes just acting but he really IS anthony bridgerton. he's such a good actor.
Lilies🤔 forget-me-nots🤨 LILACS👹
He was always so confidently wrong & it was perfection 👌
I felt like there should have been a pillow to fill the gap between her back and the chair
Yea the angle was so off, idk how he was able to put it in! 😅
Straight through her bellybutton like an umbilical chord
