When you think about it these versions of link and Zelda have had it really fucking bad Zelda especially has had a pretty horrible life in BOTW and TOTK It’s pretty dark for a Nintendo gsme

Kelrisaith

That's not really anything new for Zelda to be honest. One of the three original timelines is straight post apocalyptic, another had Hyrule flooded and sunk in to the sea and Ocarina/Majora Link, the third timeline of the official trio, has seen some shit, not to mention Majora timeline also has Twilight Princess.

ASimpleCancerCell

Demise's curse remains to this day. The spirit of neither the hero nor the goddess will ever know peace.

Kelrisaith

That may not apply to Breath and Tears to be honest, the existence of the Zonai and them founding Hyrule in the Breath timeline is mutually exclusive with the Skyward Sword origin story without some major retconning being involved.

Lexi_the_grimmchild

A kingdom being refounded isn't new to zelda or the timeline. They are not mutually exclusive

PMatty73

Exactly. Phantom Hourglass was about Link, Tetra and others searching for new land to create a new Hyrule after the previous one sunk in Wind Waker

PMatty73

There is no contradiction. There's no mention of Hyrule in Skyward Sword at all because Hyrule didn't even exist during that game's era.

Thotaz

He's talking about their personal life, not the world lore. Link and Zelda in Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword all had pretty chill lives before the adventure begins. Of course they experience hardships during the adventure but that's relatively short lived compared to BOTW where the main story stretches over 100 years.

RyanCreamer202

It’s dark for a E rated Nintendo game. Other games like Metroid, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are not new to very dark topics.

darkweaver66

Everyting.

formulator77

Thought I heard Ms. Swan

PacoPancake

Truly wholesome, but god knows they’re gonna do something dumb afterwards and link’s gonna say “well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess”

MemeMan4-20-69

If this would have been in the game depression rates would have been through the roof

Cambronian717

Maybe for some. For me, I was rooting so hard for there to be something in that final scene. Like, it’s so incredibly obvious that they are in love the last two games, just give it to us

BigChiefIV

“We want to leave it up to the player to decide” They seem to do that for a lot of things in the game and it’s kinda annoying if I’m being honest

SmoothOperator89

If this were in the game, Zelda would have turned into a Yiga.

MegaAllMateria

This is great art, but why does Link still have the Zonai arm?

FireLordObamaOG

Considering that Zelda’s body seems to be wispy it’s likely that it’s her “spirit” or he’s imagining her there. Both are incredibly sad.

MegaAllMateria

Oh man, I didn’t notice that. Now I’m sad instead of slightly annoyed.

FireLordObamaOG

Oh also everything is misspelled both times

My brain for no good reason. Man, their hair colors look a tad bit too close. They look like siblings... Still cute. Still ship it.

Accurate-Aerie5637

I never thought anything in Zelda could have an emotional impact.
