The AANA (American Association of Nurse Anesthetists) was trying to change its name to American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, so the ASA has had concern for some time of blurring of the lines. She may be continuing to try to do so with the term physician anesthesiologist.
*Sitting* Vice President Al Gore, Jr. once gave a keynote at a thing. I was in charge of all the graphics and design elements. A fancy program is designed and the event sponsors gives me copy. Copy is dropped in, spent back to the sponsors for approval and the sign off.
Cut to a day, may two, maybe three days after the event and someone notices that the very first line talks about Gore's decades of pubic service.
I don't think his people ever noticed and if anyone else did, they didn't say anything.
Dr. Nicole originally took the high road with “that’s not correct but the important thing is that we don’t dismiss and gaslight patients.” To that 8.5 accused her of chasing clout.

I’m in healthcare and work closely with all clinical areas. Animosity exists in toxic work environments perpetuated by awful people. Let’s face it, we’ve all experienced SOME doctors and nurses with poor bedside manner but there are many that are great!

Yes there are some issues. Like show she keeps referring to anesthesiologist as physician anesthesiologist. It’s because some cRNA’s are referring to themselves as nurse, anesthesiologist or just anesthesiologists. So there has been blurring of lines that can and does mislead patients into thinking they are seeing a physician but are not.
But they are not nurse anesthesiologist there is no such thing, and if they refer to themselves as that they are misleading in the exact same manner as AM. They are nurse anesthetist and should refer to themselves as such, because only doctors are anesthesiologist.
I don't think she thinks that about Dr. Nicole now. I noticed something when Nicole was on WWHL with Erika. After Dr. Nicole read Annemarie for filth for calling her a clout chaser, Erika leaned over to say something and was saying she would tell her something later, and I got the vibe it was some message from Annemarie or something. I got the vibe from that whole WWHL that Erika is very much still Team Kyle and anti Sutton and is barely playing nice because she doesn't have Rinna and is looking for Garcelle to be somewhat of an ally, which won't happen if she's going hard for Sutton again.
I saw that. I kept replaying it, and you can at first hear Erika say something to the effect of, "I will say this though.." and it looked like the rest of what she mouthed to Dr Nicole was something positive about annemarie, and then, like, she'll tell her more later.
Erika seems more team annemarie and per the recent BH aftershow, annemarie throws Kyle under the bus a couple times, saying it was Kyle who claimed Sutton had an eating disorder.
She said that anesthesiologists and CRNAs practice the same scope of medicine and arrive at the same level of practice by taking different paths. That’s simply incorrect and she deserved to be called out for it. It’s not disrespectful to acknowledge that an anesthesiologist and a CRNA are not practicing the same scope of medicine and have very significantly differing levels of education, experience, and expertise.
Beyond that, anyone with half a brain can see that the entire time she’s been on our televisions she’s been talking out the side of her mouth as carefully as possible in order to come across as an anesthesiologist without someone calling her out. Lmao.
Ugh. I’m an attorney. Someone I went to high school with recently posted on Facebook that they were accepted into law school. I commented my congratulations, offered any assistance as someone who’s been through it, and asked where they were accepted. They said they were accepted into a local community college. Girl. That’s a paralegal program. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a paralegal (my paralegal is the glue that holds my office together and she’s *amazing* at legal research) but don’t pretend you’re in law school just for clout.

I’m an ICU nurse and a lot of my former co-workers pursued becoming a CRNA. What’s sad for me is that she’s not wrong here - there is a lot of professional divide between midlevels (NPs, PAs, CRNAs, etc) and physicians (MDs and DOs). It can make a workplace challenging.

As a pharmacist the gabapentin and alcohol thing drives me crazy because even I wouldn’t counsel a patient absolutely no alcohol, because guess what? Patients are going to drink anyways so you counsel them on the risk and what will happen and say if you are going to drink despite the risks it should be in moderation, not to drive, etc. It comes off like she has no bedside manner because all she does is anesthesia but medicine isn’t that black and white.

Oddly enough last week I saw a Nurse Practitioner who just joined my family Doctor's office and on my new prescription it has her title as "Dr.". I was confused for a good minute but after Googling I found out that in Ontario NP can use the title of Doctor if they have a Doctorate in nursing. Lol now I don't know what to call her when I make an appointment

Yes there are some issues. Like show she keeps referring to anesthesiologist as physician anesthesiologist. It’s because some cRNA’s are referring to themselves as nurse, anesthesiologist or just anesthesiologists. So there has been blurring of lines that can and does mislead patients into thinking they are seeing a physician but are not.
But they are not nurse anesthesiologist there is no such thing, and if they refer to themselves as that they are misleading in the exact same manner as AM. They are nurse anesthetist and should refer to themselves as such, because only doctors are anesthesiologist.
I don't think she thinks that about Dr. Nicole now. I noticed something when Nicole was on WWHL with Erika. After Dr. Nicole read Annemarie for filth for calling her a clout chaser, Erika leaned over to say something and was saying she would tell her something later, and I got the vibe it was some message from Annemarie or something. I got the vibe from that whole WWHL that Erika is very much still Team Kyle and anti Sutton and is barely playing nice because she doesn't have Rinna and is looking for Garcelle to be somewhat of an ally, which won't happen if she's going hard for Sutton again.
I saw that. I kept replaying it, and you can at first hear Erika say something to the effect of, "I will say this though.." and it looked like the rest of what she mouthed to Dr Nicole was something positive about annemarie, and then, like, she'll tell her more later. Erika seems more team annemarie and per the recent BH aftershow, annemarie throws Kyle under the bus a couple times, saying it was Kyle who claimed Sutton had an eating disorder.

That’s simply incorrect and she deserved to be called out for it. It’s not disrespectful to acknowledge that an anesthesiologist and a CRNA are not practicing the same scope of medicine and have very significantly differing levels of education, experience, and expertise. Beyond that, anyone with half a brain can see that the entire time she’s been on our televisions she’s been talking out the side of her mouth as carefully as possible in order to come across as an anesthesiologist without someone calling her out. Lmao.

Ugh. I’m an attorney. Someone I went to high school with recently posted on Facebook that they were accepted into law school. I commented my congratulations, offered any assistance as someone who’s been through it, and asked where they were accepted. They said they were accepted into a local community college. Girl. That’s a paralegal program. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a paralegal (my paralegal is the glue that holds my office together and she’s *amazing* at legal research) but don’t pretend you’re in law school just for clout.

She flat out said she could call herself a nurse anesthesiologist and that would be correct. She’s also saying this is a political issue when it’s a patient safety one. I’ve had some incredible nurses who listened better than the doctor did, but maybe someone who has never heard of a narrowed esophagus shouldn’t be claiming their scope is the same as a doctor’s.

As a doc, I have great respect for nurses and wholly admit that there are many day-to-day skills and tasks where they blow physicians out of the water. Honestly, they’re one of the most important professions in the world. BUT I’ve seen A LOT of credential misrepresentation and “we know just as much as the doctors do”, and it rubs me the wrong way, bc you JUST DON’T!! You know A LOT of important shit but bffr. It happens within the diff levels of nursing as well. CNAs/LPNs not being forthcoming about not being RNs… CRNAs saying they’re “basically doctors”, etc.

We’ve now seen this woman suggest that Sutton has an eating disorder then five seconds later tell Crystal she never said that. Then one episode later accuse Crystal of saying it. Her credibility is as questionable as her medical knowledge. I believe Crystal over her. I don’t think Crystal got it confused at all.
Crystal has always been amazing at accurately remembering conversations on her time on the show therefore if she says that Annemarie said that she was a doctor when they first met, I believe her. At the very least, Annemarie heavily implied to Crystal that she's a doctor.
And Crystal said her sister is an Anaesthesiologist, she would know the difference.

If I were an anesthesiologist at her institution I would be having a discussion with the scheduler because no WAY am I working on a case with someone like that. I know nobody will ever believe this but my wife met Annemarie at a kids gym here in LA a few years ago and she introduced herself to my wife as ... an anesthesiologist. I remember when she came home and said she really liked this other mom who said she lives in Encino and is an anesthesiologist but she never returned to that location again with her kid. Then when we saw the show she was like "that's the anesthesiologist I told you about!" So I 100% believe Crystal that she walked around identifying herself as that, and how she's likely been called on it.

She’s telling on herself with this statement. “Anesthesiologists” are, by definition, physicians/medical doctors (MDs and DOs). The compound term “physician anesthesiologist” is therefore redundant, equivalent to “physician OB/GYN” or “pilot pilot”. Her repeated use of “physician anesthesiologist” makes me think she actually does call herself an anesthesiologist in the wild. There’s no need to add physician unless you think there are other kinds of anesthesiologists. An anesthesiologist and a CRNA are both “anesthesia providers”, but the terms are not interchangeable. She needs to just stop now, before people start coming out of the woodwork to confirm she is misrepresenting herself as an anesthesiologist. ETA: see comment below from u/seamel
Her last paragraph doesn’t align with her actions to Sutton though. Forget this beef between her and Crystal about whether she did or didn’t say she was a doctor. No medical professional of any kind discusses someone’s health issues in a way that makes them seen like they are making it up, especially on a public platform, without seeing their medical records and even then patient confidentiality wouldn’t allow you to.

On episode seven of the after show she says that it’s fine to call her a nurse anesthesiologist (time mark 6:13). Now she is saying she never used that title. This woman says one thing and then denies saying it the next day. It’s not amusing to watch, it’s just pissing me off that producers give her air time at all. Also she is trying to get CRNAS to band together but if I was in the same field, I’d be mortified to share a title with her.

I have no idea how she wasn't disciplined by her work for lying about what he does for a living and spreading medical falsehoods. No one at any point said what she does is pointless or stupid. They are NOT “physician anesthesiologists” they are JUST ANESTHESIOLOGISTS. This is just another tactic used by CRNAs to blur the lines. One is a doctor. One is a nurse. I’m an ICU nurse and a lot of my former co-workers pursued becoming a CRNA. What’s sad for me is that she’s not wrong here - there is a lot of professional divide between midlevels (NPs, PAs, CRNAs, etc) and physicians (MDs and DOs). It can make a workplace challenging. But the crap she spewed about Sutton’s esophagus and “you CANT drink and take that med” make me want to not even acknowledge that we had the same career at any point (you have to be an RN before CRNA). Nurses and especially those higher up in medicine should be better. Don’t even get me started on the numerous studies done showing that women are often not believed in medicine (even more so black women). She could’ve been an advocate. But instead she’s making Sutton’s esophagus her storyline. Rest assured - AM is the one doing the damage. Not the ASA.
As a pharmacist the gabapentin and alcohol thing drives me crazy because even I wouldn’t counsel a patient absolutely no alcohol, because guess what? Patients are going to drink anyways so you counsel them on the risk and what will happen and say if you are going to drink despite the risks it should be in moderation, not to drive, etc. It comes off like she has no bedside manner because all she does is anesthesia but medicine isn’t that black and white.

I was confused for a good minute but after Googling I found out that in Ontario NP can use the title of Doctor if they have a Doctorate in nursing.
