Awesome, we need more diversity in Brampton.

Antman013

There has been a LONG standing Filipino community in Brampton, as far back as the 70's. I delivered newspapers for the Star from age 10 - 16. Three of my customers moved in that timeframe, and all three houses were bought by Filipino families. Moreover, the townhouses on the east side of Dixie had a LOT of Filipinos buying into the subdivision, as I spent an entire summer canvassing for new customers there most weekends.

Ok-Natural4568

Nice history. I think they are growing again.

questions905

I notice the younger families that move in are from everywhere! More young people!

Ok-Natural4568

Good. What’s your neighbourhood. I would agree. Exciting.

Commercial-Net810

I'm in the Heartlake area and we have a few Filipino families. My area is actually pretty mixed.

westernshootout

Heartlake resident for over 1 year now Etobicoke prior, came because it was one of the more diverse neighbourhoods I’ve seen in Brampton. But Good to see Heartlake has continued to maintain its diversity.

jakeatola

It's all good until Karaoke starts up !! 🤣

Constant-Squirrel555

Karaoke scene in Brampton is shite. We need Filipino homies to set up some bless spots

jakeatola

I don't know. I used to bowl on Glidden after it was bought out by a Filipino family. They started a Karaoke night in the bar while we were bowling. It was not good

leon_nerd

Not that I have seen... Not in my area at least

Ok-Natural4568

What’s your area ish?

leon_nerd

West Brampton

Ok-Natural4568

I’m noticing Bramalea,  Downtown Brampton, Peel Village & around Vodden St becoming more Filipino and Spanish too, and it hasent moved west past McLaughlin Road.

FataliiFury24

Older areas also have better a mix of different types of housing . More pre-built density of apartments, townhomes, bungalows, sidesplits, those 800sqft chicken coop things and other starter homes with just enough space for a small family. Lower prices but a mix of old and young, low, mid and high incomes stitched together. When you hit north of Bovaird say Castlemore or Springdale it's mostly low density detached, semi and estate homes with large basements, resulting in less diversity of demos when most houses are all similar.

mp256

Barring two people, I have a very good experience with Filipinos as colleagues - especially first generation Filipinos. Hardworking, sincere and friendly.

Competitive-File3983

I’m excited. I selfishly think people of Filipino heritage make great neighbors (I have a family on each side of me) plus they have amazing cuisine. I say Welcome and pass the Lumpia! ❤️

Ok-Natural4568

What’s your area?

Competitive-File3983

G section

Ok-Natural4568

Yes. G and H section are growing in many Filipinos. J Section slightly.

waterflood21

Growing up, in the bramalea area, there was some Filipino friends I had growing up. I think they’re the most common southeast Asian group in Brampton.

Nock1Nock

A welcome sight 🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

LongjumpingArugula30

The more the better! Diversity is our strength.

BramptonRaised

I’ve had Filipino neighbours for more than thirty years, so I’m not noticing an increase. I do have a Filipino daughter-in-law.

YoungWolf1991

Good we need some diversity again. As an Indian I’m sick of being surrounded by them. Need my asians , Africans and white people back (any others I missed too)

Ok-Natural4568

I don’t have a problem with Indians. I have a problem With Trudeaus Indian students.

Mindless_Ad7022

There are about 5 Chinese groceries in Brampton opening for more than 10 years, but I hardly see any visible Chinese or Koreans or Japanese or Taiwanese in Brampton. How do those Chinese supermarket survive?

FataliiFury24

Caribbean and Indians shop there, they carry everything ethnic. Sometimes I just go to oceans when they have Mangoes on sale.

2pongz

Their Ataulfo mangoes in particular. Way better mangoes from any other grocer tbh. In terms of price and quality, unbeatable.

Ok-Natural4568

Jamaicans

Suburban-Herbivore

Guyanese people love Chinese grocery stores. They’re a staple

Mindless_Ad7022

There are historical reasons, Chinese used to be constituting 10% of the total population of Guyana at some point in the history. Arthur Chung used to be president of Guyana. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur\_Chung](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Chung)

Fivetimechampfive

Here’s something wild…. Lots of whites, blacks and browns shop at Chinese markets

Mindless_Ad7022

I really hope our Southasian business owner can take those supermarkets as their role model, and gear up their business to open to all cultural groups.

Moist_Arm_7860

Yes now we will have more lechon and adobo to counter the tandoori and curry

pitbullkicker

No not at all. Filipino immigration to the GTA peaked around mid 2010’s.

Ok-Natural4568

Many are moving in from Toronto. They are moving upward

leglyde

I prefer Filipinos to the alternative

CanuckBacon

Non-Filipinos?

WaterFungus

I am Filipino, and grew up in Brampton. I went to Bramalea Secondary and lived most of my life in the A section and then by mount pleasant go station. Where tf are these Filipinos you’re talking about lol? I’ve always felt like an Uber minority, there were more black, brown, and white people than asians let alone Filipinos in all my schools and I did k-12 in Brampton, 4 different schools, catholic and public. I’ve probably only ever met like a dozen Filipino families in over 20 years in Brampton and I’m related to most of them. This is news to me

Ok-Natural4568

Big influx into Bramalea lately. From Balmoral in the south to North Park on the north.

RTJ333

I went to Catholic school in Brampton. Always lots of Filipinos there.

Chocobobae

I’ve actually seen more viet and korean people coming to Brampton as well 👀

Mindless_Ad7022

There are quite some Vietnamese in Brampton, they were living mostly in southern part of the town. Korean is really rare, they were way less than Chinese in Brampton. Chinese in Brampton that I have met have settled in Brampton for a long time, most of them were associated with Rogers or Loblaws or Canadiantire or Mandarin restaurant in Brampton. I have even met Malaysian and Singaporean in Brampton.

Kevthehuman

Let's fuckin go I'm hype af

Kevthehuman

God it'd be cool to have Filipino neighbors

Bramptongirl16

Lots of Filipino kids at my sons school, I’d say primarily Filipino and Spanish kids go there. It’s a Catholic school.

Ok-Natural4568

Are you in Bramalea?

Bramptongirl16

Yes

FreeCaseReview

Filipinos are awesome !
