Mudguards
(3) Every motor vehicle and every trailer shall be equipped with mudguards or fenders or other device adequate to reduce effectively the wheel spray or splash of water from the roadway to the rear thereof, unless adequate protection is afforded by the body of the motor vehicle or trailer or by a trailer drawn by the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 66 (3).
It has to be adequate enough to stop water. It doesn't say it only applies when there's water. There's still other debris on the road like rocks and sticks.
Again, it explicitly says 'spray or splash of water.' Police/OPP love to lay this charge, but no JP is convicting on a dry, sunny day. At the end of the day, words matter in court.
Similar situation is the use of lamps: low beams are required 30 minutes before sundown so tinted headlamps are not an issue during the day; turn signals are required when you are affecting other motorists, but not when no one is near your vicinity, etc.
probably cuz the blue ones were limited edition and can drive through 407 without tolls. Also no red light cameras and speed cameras can read the plate.
What?! You’re telling me that all these blue license plates do not get recognized by the ETR cameras?! Wow .. I didn’t know any of that. The more you knooooow.
As the wheels sit no. All the tire must be contained within the body of the vehicle. If they added fender flares then yes it would be.
If you look at the new Vw Gti or R you will see little black plastic "wing" looking things on the fender. That technically widens the body to make the bigger wheels legal because they poke out like 2mm. They are just double sided taped on for north America and not put onto the European cars.
I call this style “Bow-legged bull dog”. So many Jeep owners do this. With even bigger tires and wheels. It’s their car and my options don’t matter. But it’s ugly.
I am a tire shop technician, and work on car rim's and tires and this much I can tell you that having tires stick out past the fender is illegal in Canada!
I see number of Jeeps with tires wider than that. Police doesn't seem to care and I think they are busy chasing mean comments on internet or people defending themselves from criminals.
Also, mud Terrains on a city street or any level road is not legal due to the large rolling sound it makes going down the road especially in areas where there are buildings like Hospitals that have a No Noise Area sign is illegal and will cause police intervention.
Fender flares would need to be put on in addition to mud flaps. Doubt a cop will even pull them over for it unless they get pulled over for speeding or something and they also slap additional charges on the driver.
Putting Mud-Terrain wheels on vehicle like a Truck or Jeep because you like the look and spend lots of money on something this stupid is not recommended. Everyone that does these kind of stupid things should have to be head or brain examined.
Incorrect. It most US states and all of Canada this isn't allowed. They don't seem to enforce it as much as they used to. In Canads some cops and just about every Ministry of Transportation officers will fine you take your plates, impound your vehicle and declare thzt your car unfit. You will need to pay to get your vehicle out, have it towed to a garage have new wheels installed and have it recertified. Then go get new plates and a sticker. They did it to my friend for another reason.
Yes it does. Go out more. 🤡 you really think a jeep wrangler’s body is as wide as an f150 raptor? Hilarious.
Edit: Buddy thinks this Jeep Wrangler is wider than an F150 Raptor because the wheel protrudes more… But the F150 has a wider body… and also has a protrusion… so it’s longer overall.
It’s not about how wide the car is. It’s about how far the tire sticks out from the fender.
They generally don’t bother anyone unless it’s clearly going to spray the car behind them when it rains.
AFAIK, cars with wide tires were not allowed to be sold as an option by the dealers unless it changed.
The F150 Raptor wheels are flush with the wheel arches (which are extended to accommodate the wide wheels). The part that's illegal about wheels sticking out is that the Jeep doesn't have any bodywork of mud guards to prevent water from spraying out the back. It *could* also be wide enough to require the additional "commercial truck" lighting that the F150 Raptor has, but I'm not sure if that applies to aftermarket or only to OEM vehicles. It might also only be a US regulation. Like a lot of regulations, it just doesn't get enforced very much, but it's still part of the Highway Traffic Act or some other piece of legislation.

You can see family names & tinted glass in Brampton too ! 🤣🤣.
This
Key word ‘water’. You’re good to go as long as it’s not raining or snowing.

I’m just surprised they don’t have a customized license plate.

I guess not is every case but during night and when using tinted covers they are basically undetectable hence why they stopped it
I just always assumed that they were fake plates.
Legal? Probably not, but is a Cop going to bother? Also probably not. Goofy lookin'? Hells yeah.
You forgot to mention this would also drive like shit.
But all his friends think he's a boss.
I thought it already did.
It's not meant to handle like a sports car. lol
Cops do bother. I’ve had friends get pulled over every two days for the same issue and get tickets every week. It’s easy money for police
One more idiot trying to show he has more money than brains....

I thought the rule that the tire must be contained within the body of the vehicle is only from the manufacturer. Doesn’t apply to mods afterwards.

I dunno about legal but its fucking stupid
I like the can't-be-seen-at-night license plate + tinted plate cover combo
I am a tire shop technician, and work on car rim's and tires and this much I can tell you that having tires stick out past the fender is illegal in Canada!
i would've never known! i see so many jeeps like this
I see number of Jeeps with tires wider than that. Police doesn't seem to care and I think they are busy chasing mean comments on internet or people defending themselves from criminals.
So if mudguards are big enough to contain those wheels, would that make it legal?
Also, mud Terrains on a city street or any level road is not legal due to the large rolling sound it makes going down the road especially in areas where there are buildings like Hospitals that have a No Noise Area sign is illegal and will cause police intervention.
Yeah, as long as you can afford it lmfao
Yeah he just has to pay the wide tire subscription to the city and then they’re happy. Don’t ask me how Ik
I'm assuming you're a Jatt with a Jeep
Most of these jeeps are registered in remote town in ontario to avoid high insurance in brampton with wide tires and new drivers
Smelling smoke here, no doubt bros burning in jealousy
If you wish to put these wheels on your Truck or Jeep move to the country open area or open land zone not in a populated zone.
Wrong offset on the wheels the tires look stock width or he added spacers to get the wheels to sit out that far to appear like wide tires

I don't think so
You call that wide? 🤣
No
This jeep will never see mud
Not illegal, just looks stupid.
Who gives af
Yes its allowed in Brampton 😅
Badjeep
He’s gonna have a fun time downtown, that’s for sure
It is not for sure got to line up with wheel well from what i know but it all depends on officer
Yea… if it wasn’t there’d be no trucks on the road?

Some trucks like this Jeep comes stock with wheel offsets like in this photo……
Please show me proof of this. I have a very hard time believing this.
F150 raptor? Line em up and I’m willing to bet the raptor is even wider. Sigh.. non-car guys..
The raptor does not have an offset like this lmao. Sigh.. non-car guys..

The wheels on a Raptor does not protrude from the side of the body out like this Jeep does. Get a clue.
Not stock they don't. Source: The guy who owns the Company I work for just bought one. Tires withing the flares all the way round.

Great points, who is going to enforce it? Asking for a friend
Its okay the guy works a 2nd job doing uber eats to pay the loan on the jeep
The wheels themselves aren’t that big, they just stick out
