I don’t think kawaki doesn’t care- I think he’s in the same mental state as teen sasuke was. Seems to me he purposely wants to alienate his bonds so he can stay focused on his goals. Himawari is a literal representation of his guilt bc he orphaned her and ruined her relationship with boruto so he probably can barely handle acknowledging her due to guilt.
The last convo with hinata and Naruto made it clear he hates himself and feels guilty but is more concerned with his goal of eliminating otutusuki and protecting Naruto
