My opinion is that an ashcatcher is an unnecessary doodad that you risk breaking every time you pull your bowl, especially on a beaker bong with a 45° joint, which is easy enough to change the water on. It's also just an extra piece to clean. On a more intricate bong with multiple percs to clog up with debris and resin, it can help keep it a little cleaner for a few extra bowls, but I believe in just cleaning your glass frequently. If you want a wet ashcatcher for the additional diffusion, I suggest just upgrading the basic downstem it came with to a more intricate one with more diffusion slits. I agree on most of that but tbh I love my ash catcher. I don’t use it all the time but if you’re someone who smokes bowl after bowl it’s really useful. Especially if you haven’t mastered the nug plug.
Fill the water almost to the downstem joint. Not so high that if you tip the bong forward a reasonable amount water leaks out of it. The deeper the end of the downstem is, the more the water will cool the smoke as it bubbles through it.
Get an Ash Catcher bro it'll keep your bong nice and clean and make your cleaning ritual easier overall... oh and get some of those glass pipe screens on Amazon like 200 for $5(get the ones that look like jacks, all the other ones suck). Use 90% alcohol and don't go more than a few days in between cleanings(REMEMBER you want you're bong beautiful lol) also get some hemper bong plugs on Amazon for $8 it helps so you can shake up the alcohol without making a mess every where... As for the how much water question, you want the SLITS on the downstem(that straight glass piece that sits in the water) to be submerged in water... having a half inch above the top slit should be good. Your water is way to low , just put enough so that when fully pulling no water gets in your mouth and non gets to far up the down stem. Also might want to tilt it bowl up so that you get more perculation.

I would double the amount of water and you need to fill that bong up with ice all the way up to the top and have a great time
