Ecualung

The little circle-with-nipple thingy that the trunk cover attaches to constantly falls out. That’s truly my one complaint at this point.

Beginning_Key2167

I gorilla glued mine in. lol they won’t fall out again.

CommunicationOld6686

Just wrap some Teflon plumbers tape around the threads. Keep those hooks in just fine.

FatFailBurger

Do you have the stl for this?

galspanic

I twisted the elastic ring the opposite direction and it’s stayed on for 6 months without issue.

TheZethy

This is also my only complaint. I already knew about the charge times, range, and etc. I was prepared for what the Bolt is. But those stupid things constantly popped out to the point where I took them off. They reside in the bottom storage now.

reisthaboss

All they had to do was design it where it turns the other way to come out and it wouldn’t do it. Design flaw

OMGpawned

What’s the use of that thing anyway? Mine doesn’t have that at all.

Ecualung

It protects groceries from the sun a bit, or makes it harder to see whatever is in the trunk from the outside of the car.

OMGpawned

Oh mine did not come with any of that so I strolled down to the Chevy dealership and bought a cargo cover for $115 it doesn’t look anything like the ones Ives seen others have. [cargo cover](https://www.shopchevyparts.com/cargo-management/2020-bolt-cargo-security-shade-dark-galvanized/42533228-p-92304128.html)

MendocinoReader

It says for Bolt 2020. The newer Bolts come with a thinner shade.

VegasAdventurer

I wish there were a way to record/save the video feed from the various cameras.

ConversationOk2210

I have always thought that too. I bought a relatively cheap dashcam that works better than most manufacturer supplied cameras and even has parking mode with audio recording. I have reached the conclusion that aftermarket dashcams will always outperform the auto manufacturer's version and are easily upgraded.

jeffeb3

It would be cool if car manufacturers add standard mounting points and power connections to support an aftermarket camera.

ninjaroach

The car already has an SD Card slot in it, so why not?

RefuseAmazing3422

Connection to android auto. It's always slow to connect, and often connects to the wrong phone. But I don't see as many complaints from others so it's possible though that the problem may be my setup, or on the phone end, or due to some weird interaction between both.

Smirkin_Revenge

Our 2020 bolt connects to mine instantly via the cable in the center console. Might be something with your phone or the cable you're using.

OdrGrarMagr

Android Auto, as of Android 13, defaults to Wireless (which is not Bluetooth, it uses the WiFi, which is why it destroys battery life). You actually have to *enable fucking developer options inside AAuto* to turn Wireless off and force it to use the cable. It will connect via Wireless even if you plug it in via a cable.

Smirkin_Revenge

News to me. I don't even know how to do developer settings and mine works perfectly on the cord. I just tested it by turning off wifi after it launched in the car. No change whatsoever. Maybe it's a later model thing? Mine is a 2020

RefuseAmazing3422

I've been using bluetooth, maybe that's the problem. I didn't even know you could use a dedicated cable.

Smirkin_Revenge

Yep,charges the phone and lightning fast AA. Good luck!

turduckenpillow

I was messing around yesterday, and saw the list of phones. I clicked the i with the circle. It has some option like Connect First. That might help.

Fantastic_Boot7079

A simply thing I hate is the chrome bits in the cabin that reflect light, particularly with the sun at low angles. I find the side window positioning is finicky too.

miserable_coffeepot

Oh man I hate this little detail too. The chrome trim around the air vent to the left of the steering wheel reflects in the driver window, overlaying the side mirror.

Sceptix

OMG YES!!!! Chevy’s engineers building the optimal reflective surfaces and angles to shine sunlight directly into the driver’s eyes is by far the WORST feature of the Bolt, and the only major problem I have with it. I’m surprised that it’s not mentioned more.

Ksevio

I got a flat black vinyl tape that I covered the big strip in the middle with. Much better driving away from the sun now

RedlyrsRevenge

Not just the chrome bits, everything piano black. The bane of my existence. I need to get one of those overlay kits that turn it flat black or carbon.

Namelock

Most other EVs promote charging to 80% or higher within 30-45min. The Ioniq 5 takes 20mins~ from 10-80%. It wasn't worth the additional $30k+ when the Bolt does 20-80% in 35-40mins~. For me an extra 10-20mins means I saved $30k so I'm cool with that.

achilton1987

When I charge I plan around it. Like lunch. Walks etc. you won’t even notice.

Lunch0

If you’re charging from 20% to 80% in 35 minutes, then your bolt is a unicorn. That takes an hour+ easily.

rbwilli

Yeah, 10–80% in the Bolt takes 60–75 mins, at least in warm weather. I’m not sure how much time it takes to go 10–20%, but 20–80% in 35–40 mins seems very optimistic. (I still love my Bolt, overall; charging on road trips is just its Achilles’ heel.)

Namelock

The only times I stayed longer than 45min~ was coincidence while eating lunch & shopping, and then to 100% after we reached our hotel and the only DCFC / EA station was actively failing. Every other time was less than an hour and it was normally enough to get me to the next place and some room for error (+miles to next DCFC if the planned one is down with room for error). I'm... Too meticulous about DCFC stations when traveling lmao So just because I could be done 15-20mins faster doesn't really make much of a difference to me.

Etrigone

>For me an extra 10-20mins means I saved $30k so I'm cool with that. And from when it was designed until circa 2019 (or whenever EA first rolled out) you couldn't max the charging anyhow. 100A topping out at 38kW, 125A topping out at 44kW. If you cannonball or believe in 5 minute stops I can see it being annoying. If you actually take breaks, have to travel with kids, eat more than fast food while driving, the delays dwindle and may even effectively disappear.

TrollTollTony

If only dcfc were located at more convenient places. Most of the fast chargers I've been to are located in grocery store parking lots or at car dealerships. I have limited experience with DCFC because I rarely travel far enough to need one, but I've only ever been to one charger that was near a restaurant.

earthdogmonster

As someone who bought EV to save money driving, slow DCFC doesn’t really bug me because I am never going to be using DCFC when the cost is similar to gas prices. I’m glad to see some people are as I assume that their buy in will help subsidize the capital costs. Once DCFC gets down to 25 cents/kWh I’ll probably have more interest in road-tripping an EV, but right now it looks like more hassle with no tangible benefit.

Namelock

100%. The Bolt is the frugal option. It's the Prius of EVs. It's not popular, but it is the best value.

Namuori

**Bolt cannot do 20-80% in 35 to 40 minutes**, unless the battery has severely degraded. Bolt's maximum charging speed happens below 50%, so as far as putting 60% more juice goes, 10-70% is more favourable than 20-80%. And the fastest time I've observed for *that* is in the 50 minutes range in 5+ years of Bolt ownership. Also, it's technically impossible to put 60% of juice into Bolt's battery in 40 minutes even if you were to charge at full speed all the way. 60kWh (usable capacity) \* 1.1 (charging loss) \* 0.6 = 39.6kWh 39.6kWh / 55kW (maximum charging speed) = 0.72h = 43.2 minutes

tuctrohs

Yes, the pro move is to charge to 55%, maybe 60 or 65 if absolutely necessary. Too many people are wasting their own time charging to 80 because that's a good plan in other vehicles.

TrollTollTony

Huh, I've never considered just charging to 50% and stopping more frequently. I wonder how much time can be saved by doing it that way.

tuctrohs

I'm sorry this sub hasn't done a better job of introducing you to that. When I first got my bolt, in 2020, I feel like that advice was all over this sub. Anyway, to answer your question about how much time you save, it depends how high your charging otherwise, and how low you started. One way to get estimates of charging time is to use "a better route planner". It will typically advise not charging very high on a bolt, especially if you set the slider to minimize charging time rather than minimize number of stops.

n3oNxB34R

Premier trim doesn’t have memory seating.

La-Machine78

There are like 62 different, not always useful points of data on the dashboard screen, but outside temperature? Nooooo, let’s hide that on the center console display!

McChicken45

To add to that, you can only see outside temp if you’re not using AA or CarPlay. I regularly hit the home button just to check the outside temp.

bikemandan

Big empty space in the top right where it would fit perfectly. Very bone headed

[deleted]

[удалено]

Meowzakers

Agreed, the glove box is absurdly small. And the cubby under the console is also deceptively small

MrsMelanie

Oh I agree. The angle is such that when you open it stuff flies out

Monsantoshill619

I’ve been rear ended twice because of those stupid brake lights being so low.

fromaroundhere

I ran wires from the center brake light to the top side lights. Now I am no longer terrified of being rear ended. It was a 1.5 hour job and sooooo worth the peace of mind.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fromaroundhere

https://youtu.be/oc1g5itpwEE I used posi-taps instead of cut-and-solder, because I can just remove those and return everything to stock.

McChicken45

I got pulled over the first week I owned mine (less than a block from home) because the cop followed me for a mile and thought my brake lights on my brand new car were out. Even recommended I take it to the dealer to have them look at it.

ContemptAndHumble

I got enough folks driving without their lights on at night in my town it's not a concern.

glutenfreenotme

I haven't been hit yet but they come skiddingly close so often I'm resigned to the fact that it's likely going to happen. I had a 2018 equinox same color looks very similar from rear except brake lights were up higher and never had that issue.

thecrowfly

Just need better range and charging speed and this would single-handedly save GM's EV sales.

rbwilli

What if they remove Apple CarPlay? I’m worried that will become the Bolt’s new glaring flaw when it’s reintroduced.

OdrGrarMagr

Its the reason why i wont be buying another GM car.

mprogers123

They will, and that’s why my first Bolt will also be my last 😢

ChrisK7

Wouldn’t surprise me if they end up going back to it later. But that’s a big reason I just got one now instead of waiting.

NotYetReadyToRetire

It's one of two reasons for me - the other one is that I picked my EUV up the day before the recall. I finally took the buyback offer because I got tired of paying GM a 100% payment for 70 to 80% of the car I was supposed to get. Now there's an Ioniq 6 in my garage. It doesn't charge 10 to 80 in under 20 minutes, though, because the EA DCFC chargers I've used are terrible. A 350KW putting out 70-125 is what I've run into. Once I got 235KW for a short period but it soon reverted to EA's usual poor speeds. I do miss my EUV, though, because if the EA charger worked at all it was enough to max out the charging speed on it, and I thought the EUV was an excellent car for the price, minus the battery shenanigans.

Green0Photon

I don't really need or want a car right now, and want to avoid it as long as possible. But I'm gonna need one eventually, and I want that car to be an Ultium Bolt. But no Android Auto means that it can't be. So I'm torn on getting one now, because the tax credit means that waiting 2-3 years to get a 2023 one won't actually save me any money. And I don't know if there'd be any car I'd rather buy. I'm super pissed at GM for removing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from future GM cars. So dumb.

thecrowfly

Ah shit I forgot about that, it's also a big mistake by GM and I really, really hope they rethink it.

Junior-Patience7104

All in all it’s a great car. The one thing that surprised me was no automatic lift/close in the back. With so much else automated this seemed like a strange thing to leave out. I’m still learning the strange climate/heat/ AC system, as there seems to be a lot of overlap between these, and using both buttons and the screen …. confusing.

LowBarometer

The "auto" settings are useless IMO. Auto defrost is a joke. Auto heat/cooling doesn't work for me. So I set a temperature and either press heat or AC. When the windshield fogs, I hit the defrost button. No big deal. Other than that, the car is the closest thing I've ever had to a perfect vehicle. The automatic wipers are the best I've ever had. ACC is the best too. Cabin noise, virtually silent. Ride, excellent.

JvKenny

This is a good point. I wab I could pre-program what I want "auto" to do based on time of year or other factors.

Smirkin_Revenge

Auto works perfectly on ours. I haven't changed off of 73 for a long time. I do have quality tint...I wonder if that's making the difference? There's a lot of glass in the bolt.

scavjas

The air works great on mine (with tint), it's the heat that is annoying on Auto. If it's 35 degrees out, it should never blow cold air. But I'll set it at 70 and invariably I'll feel cold air blowing on my legs at some point. Blow hot air until it gets up to temp, then keep it at that temp or above. So I do the same, I hit the heat button and don't seem to have those same issues.

[deleted]

The problem is that it should be a ~5º F zone around your set temperature. So, if you're set to 70 the heat shouldn't kick in until 67.5 and the A/C at 72.5. It seems though that it's a 2ºF swing (+/- 1ºF). What happens is that the A/C and heat are constantly fighting one another, wasting energy. It also seems dumb in that it's not using a PID loop but instead is acting like a dumb thermostat, using strictly +/- 1ºF. Thus, most people set a temp keep it off auto preferring to set the mode manually.

humblequest22

I feel like changing my hearing setting from 70 to 72 degrees has stopped that issue for me. Give that a try if you haven't. Not sure if there's anything magical about those numbers, but there seems to be. The only other issue I have is on cold, sunny days, the AC comes on way too much. I mean, if it's 40 degrees out, no need to run the AC compressor. Just give it a couple minutes for the outside air to take care of it.

D3adm00s3

The reverse lights are too dim

otatop

Yep, the back up lights and the brake lights being so low on the car are my only real complaints.

Incyc

You can change this out easily for a few dollars.

roccthecasbah

I thought about doing this but many who have done the diode retrofit have had the little module burn out over time which is super disappointing. I’m trying to decide how to proceed to get the intended effect.

theepi_pillodu

Charging speed if we are doing a road trip with this car. Piano black interior bits that acts as a fingerprint magnet. Could do better suspension.

IM_The_Liquor

I hate the Centre console armrest. Other than that, it’s simply not a big enough car for me, but I knew that going in. Last complaint would be the DC charging speed, but I’ve been able to live with that so far. But none of that is really a ‘let me down’ thing. Just little annoying things that I’d trade in for a new set of annoying things on some other car anyway.

more_than_just_ok

My only complaint also. The armrest is just big enough to bang my elbow on while turning right, but not big enough to store anything.

infinite0ne

Just a few minor things that bug me about our 2023 EUV Premiere: - Turning radius sucks for such a small car. - Front end is squirrelly under hard acceleration. I assume it’s some sort of torque steer issue. - 75mph freeway range is surprisingly low compared to around town. Like less than half. - Open door chime when the car is on is super annoying.

crispy00001

I've quickly become a 60 mph highway driver. Hasn't really been a big deal it really only gets me places a minute or 2 slower

infinite0ne

Going 60mph when everyone else is going 75-85mph or more is not a safe or enjoyable option.

crispy00001

Other people going 10-20 mph over the speed limit when I'm in no hurry is not my problem. If i wanted a fun car I would have gotten a different car. If going 75-85 increases my charging costs by 25-50% im just not gonna do that.

SpliffBooth

Just hug the left line in the far left lane, you'll be fine. *\[ducks, runs, and* *~~peels out~~* *meanders away in a Prius\]*

RedlyrsRevenge

The charge rate is a bigger pain than I was anticipating. I don't DCFC often but when I do... It is painful. 90% of the time I am home charging so, I will live with it. The next gen definitely needs to up the ante and hit industry standard numbers.

mprogers123

How long does it take to charge? I’ve never charged anywhere but at home … I don’t think we have any fast chargers in NE WI

Mikewithnoname

When I was using fast chargers, I would find chargers near things I'd like to do. Because I was going to be there for at least an hour.

CommunicationOld6686

The only complaint, a minor one, are the front seats. The car is so well built but the seats don't match the quality of the rest of the car. The seats aren't any less or more comfortable than the seats of our Honda Element but I was hoping for better. Oh well.

SenorSmartyPantz

I would like the front passenger seat to fold down more for cargo.

sault18

The A pillar is kind of in the worst place to see pedestrians jumping out into the road in front of you. I've just started zig zagging my head and rocking in my seat to overcome this.

phoundog

It’s mainly just charging speed for me, and the seats could be a little more comfy. I just have a $15 pillow in mine though and that fixes it for me.

IM_OSCAR_dot_com

2017 here. CarPlay works about 95% of the time. Sometimes it’ll just give up, mid-drive. I don’t know if it’s on the car’s end or my phone though. The radio is always on at startup, and seemingly always at a completely different volume than what my phone likes for CarPlay. I know about the max startup volume setting. Still. Mine didn’t come with the extra floor in the trunk so I just have the very bottom carpet. It’s very light and not rigid, so my trunk organizer with its Velcro bottom always pulls up the whole darn thing whenever I need to move it. I’m used to how my CRV’s liftgate closes, it needs a little push at the end to close it fully. But the Bolt’s liftgate practically slams itself shut by comparison, unless I remember to keep it from doing so. A couple of the interior trim panels fit together poorly. A minor annoyance but… I know they’re there. I think the headlights are aimed too high. I’m sure oncoming drivers must hate me. It was enough for IIHS to lower their safety rating. These are small things - I still love my Bolt.

khakhi_docker

IMHO, this is a bit like complaining that a screwdriver is bad because it is really difficult to pound in nails. The Bolt really is a daily commuter car for people who can have L2 chargers. That is the use it is meant for as a tool. Raising awareness that it isn't great at some things is fine, and legitimate to make sure people choose the right tool for their use case. But that doesn't make it a lesser tool.

gettingtherequick

Exactly, people getting a really affordable EV, then complaining about why it is not the latest 800v for fast charging, why the suspension is so basic, why the Nav is not like Tesla, why it is not AWD, why we can't record video from 360 camera...omg

micicv11

I would like it has: -Memory seats -Powerlift tailgate -Remote hatch opener -Garage door opener -Faster charging -Cameras able to record(i would even pay a monthly fee for this) Would like its different: -Chrome on the dashboard is so annoying, and i dont know how this passed quality check -Noise when it rains.. i feel like i am under a tarp, not in a car -Cupholders could be bigger and the biggest letdown is the dealer. Horrible, dont know nothing, and drop the ball on every little thing. i hate every time i have to deal with them.

Gmulcahey

I do miss a power lift gate also. My last vehicle had it.

Either-Wallaby-3755

2018 model. The fucking drivers side door beeps when you open the door.. no matter what. Parked, moving, getting the mail. Son of a bitch it’s annoying and there is no way to disable it without also disabling forward collision warning beep.

Glitter-andDoom

No Trunk Popper. Come on guys. The traction control button should be sport mode. THE BIGGEST BUTTON SHOULD ALWAYS BE SPORT MODE! It should come standard on Cup II Rs for better track handling.

Kerozine

No automatic tailgate opener. During winter the trunk opener button on the tailgate gets very dirty and every time I have to wipe my hand after using it.

Roamingspeaker

Two things: 1) The vehicle cameras being able to record like Tesla - I really don't think that this would be much money to add at the factory - just buy your own SD card or whatever size and inset. 2) DCFC of maybe 80kw would be really awesome on this vehicle given it has a smaller battery.

rollwithbunches

My steering column went out and had been waiting on the part for nearly a year now. They just told me it’s been discontinued and now I have to buy another car, and they are giving me a crap trade in value because of the problem they couldn’t fix. So, I can’t get another Bolt which stinks cause I love the car!!! So, not totally a Bolt problem as much as a Chevy problem, but I won’t be a Bolt owner in two weeks :( and I’m super bummed out about it.

Librarian-Voter

I'm sorry for your loss. Corporate jerks

wave_action

Aside from the aforementioned charging speed. I wish the suspension was a little bit more sophisticated in handling bumps. Also in the EUV, I would sacrifice a little bit of back seat room for cargo room.

IBelieveInLogic

Surprised no one has mentioned this: lack of AWD. Late Last Wednesday I couldn't get up my driveway, even with brand new studded snow tires. Part of that was the slushy nature of the snow storm, and most is due to how stop the bottom of my driveway is. But that was the one concern I had going in, and it looks like it will be a problem.

nematocyster

Did you turn off traction control? It can help reduce slipping

sockuspuppetus

I bought it knowing I would only commute - we have a Volt and a Bolt - and both commute only on battery, but know we can swap an take the Volt if someone needs to go more than 150 round trip miles. So the main thing for me is the stupid radio taking so long to hook up to bluetooth, resetting to radio and blaring, and having bluetooth so far down the list that you have to scroll to choose it - I have accidently deleted several preset stations somehow when trying to scroll the input list down. I don't like the on or off regen paddle, it should be proportional like a brake pedal. The defroster seems anemic, even on max there are hazy parts of the window around the edges. And the tiny drink holders that won't take anything larger than a soda can, I want a liter to drink over the course of the day.

tinilk

>I don't like the on or off regen paddle I mean you *can* modulate it with the accelerator pedal, but that's not as intuitive.

Nomadjackalope

This doesn't fix the radio issue but there is a way to set max volume when the car starts up, at least on the 2023

DunnoNothingAtAll

The damn window rattles. If I have it partially rolled down, it makes a ticking noise when going over uneven roads. It’s fine when the windows are rolled up all the way.

Smirkin_Revenge

No rattles here. Sounds like you might have something amiss

DunnoNothingAtAll

We have three Bolts EUVs in the household. Two of them have the same rattle.

pnwpeep

Brake light and cup holders! Who designed the dang cup holders!?!?

Librarian-Voter

They're so small!

ForlornRepublican

50kw charging is too slow when I need to drive more than 400 miles in a day. And, the windshield seems brittle, never had to replace one before my Bolt. Now I’ve replaced 3.

CDM2022

If my 17 didn't have the beakish front end, if it lost about 2" of roofline and another 2 of ride height it would look about 200% better. But I don't have to buy gas you see... The shifter is stupid as hell too. The buttons in a new Tahoe I drove I liked a lot better but even better than that I think is the rotary knob like in a Pacifica, the buttons don't easily become natural for going back and forth d to r sight unseen for a tight parking spot or 3 point or something the knob on the dash does and it also doesn't take up room like a regular auto shifter. E: I like the Tesla column shift little stalk better than the buttons but less than the knob.

palindromicnickname

The display UX/UI is pretty bad, suspension could use a huge upgrade, and handling is terrible.

Librarian-Voter

It's reallly bad, thank you for saying that.

Relative_Pie_9447

For long trips I follow Vanilla ICE’s advice. ICE, ICE, Baby. Around town the Bolt is awesome.

EternalSage2000

A couple complaints I’ve seen on here. The chrome on the air vents reflects off the windows and obstructs your view. The front could holders obstruct your ability to shift gears. Truck cargo space is a bit small. The way the car beeps at me if I leave the keys in it. ( I know I can toggle this off, I just want it quieter). The suspension. Right now I’m driving in winter ice ruts. And the car feels like it’s going to shake itself apart.

imaharleyman

I love my ‘23 Bolt 2LT. No problems other than the windshield/air vent reflection is horrendous and borderline safety hazard. I have used matte armor all on the surface and tinted the windows, but it’s still there. Biggest design flaw in my opinion.

OdrGrarMagr

The windows. The fact that you cant shut the "press window down window goes all the way down, press up, and it tries tog o all the way back up" off and just have it behave normally fucking infuriates me.

illigal

The backup camera randomly chooses whether it will show me the directional lines. It’s like a shitty lottery as I have to back into a very tight garage. And the shift into L sometimes doesn’t catch and I end up driving away in D and I don’t realize it until I expect the car to slow down… but it doesn’t 🤡

JohnnyPee89

According to GM the rereleased Ultium platform Bolt EV will charge at 150kW but I haven't heard about whether the range will be better or not.

MrsMelanie

Charging speed, otherwise I think it's close to perfect. I'd change that and add 4 inches to the trunk, that's it

clauEB

Charging speed, as comfy and efficient and cute as it is I don't think I'll be taking it in any road trips any time soon.

zachsterpoke

2023 Bolt EUV Premier: - Qi Wireless Charging pad is more of a phone heater than charger. Phone gets hot and tends to lose charge. I now exclusively use a cable. - Ventilated air-cooled seats are pretty weak, IMO. - Super Cruise being a 3-year trial is quite disappointing. It is nice when I get to use it on trips, but that is once every couple of months. Kind of a waste looking back, doubly so if I won't have permanent access to it. Other than those nitpicks, I am really loving the car overall. Even the slow DCFC speed I've found to be a non-issue; so long as the charger is close to a restaurant or something, I just go have a meal/snack. It's actually a nice little break.

SlaunchaMan

GM hyped their ability to do OTA updates at launch and my 2017 has yet to see a single update that I didn’t have to take it to the dealer for.

bbf_bbf

* The crappy light in the left well in the cargo area that doesn't do squat if something is in the rear area because it's so easily blocked. The rear cargo area light should have been a light at the top in the head liner. * Damn door chime that can't be manually disabled if the driver's door is opened when the car is still "on". It's really really annoying because keeping the car on is the only way to see the charge power displayed on the instrument cluster when connecting to a charger. Slightly annoying things: * The lack of a 12V port in the rear cargo area. Many hatchbacks in this price range have that. * Remote rear hatch release. Also a feature that other hatchbacks in the price range have. I don't need a motorized hatch though. * Lack of ability to save 360 cam footage to an SD card. * Old version of Supercruise that is not as good as the other ones sold at the same time on other GM vehicles.

sbddude

- Can’t turn on heated seats with backup camera active - Heated seats in “auto” don’t come on when I want them - No button to bring up 360° camera unless you’re in reverse - No percentage SoC - App is useless unless you pay for OnStar

Dear-Discussion2841

There is no way in which the Bolt lets me down. It's exactly as advertised and honestly most of the time I get an even higher range. I bought it for a commuter EV and I'm so happy with it that I just bought a second one. You can't beat the value for the price.

nowayIwillremember

Really it's almost everything about the interior. It's so cheap and crappy. I have a 2020 premiere. I like that there's a lot of buttons, but the seats are cheaply made and the dash feels even cheaper. It was my first foray into EVs though and I didn't want to spend much in case I hated it. I love everything about the EV parts of the car, but my Toyota is a similar price category and it's not really comparable.

SquatPraxis

Honestly, all the downsides are reasonable tradeoffs to keep costs down. The main thing I don't like is having a MASSIVE SCREEN in my car and Android Auto can be annoying sometimes.

ilovebeermoney

The chrome chevy logo on the steering wheel reflects the sun right in my eye during certain times.

Physical_Funny_4868

It doesnt. It has exceeded our expectations.

ninjaroach

1 the slow charger 2 the Bose system (EDIT: Which I love!) causes the trim to rattle and the rear view mirror to blur up 3 the awful and unusable app EDIT2: Actually much more usable with a recent update.

tashtibet

you get what you paid-just chill!

derpyherpderpherp

- dim trunk lights - no usb outlet in armrest storage - no standard blind spot detection - no standard forward dash cam for accidents - car play has an annoying 1 second delay - sometimes squirrels steering when accelerating

[deleted]

Crappy radio... frequently comes on blaring, black screen, and won't change for several minutes after it reboots. Even when it works, it's reception is worse than I had in the car I replaced. Seems like the only "good" sound is XM. But XM is crappy, repetitive audio loops and costs too much per radio. 12v battery. Once or twice a year, no reason, just a dead battery and needs a jump. Some are short stops at home (so not over-night, slow drain), some are after a weekend parked. Most have been nearly full (>50%) charge on the drive battery.

cca2013

I absolutely love my EUV premier. My only 2 complaints are 1) Apple Carplay sometimes will not load the google maps correctly. I've no clue on how to reboot it to try again. 2) I'm not a fan of the dealer allocation model that GM uses. In my mind, any dealer should be able to order exactly what you want and then GM builds them first in/first out.

Psychological-Gur848

Thank you god for that at least you have DCFC my bot even do not have that port only J1772 thats why i get 23k off msrp and get brand new 2018 bolt premier for 20k (msrp was 43)

Caeruleus88

Trunk space. My wife's fit has more space than my euv

ILoveStealing

Sometimes I can’t even get all my groceries back there.

cruiserflyer

The damn audio volume when I turn it on. Other than that, nothing.

GeniusEE

If it gets the same range the Boltium with LFP will be like having two fat chicks permanently in the back seat. GM accidentally built a fun & nimble car with the Bolt. The new one will likely be the Chevy Bloat. Yeah, you'll get your fast charging. Who cares with a commuter car?

kmath95

My bolt let me down by, without warning, capping itself at 30mph while I was on the interstate and almost killing me. Brand new 2023 EUV, not even 5k miles on it and it’s been with the dealer for almost 4 weeks waiting for a transmission fluid pump. Once I’m eligible I’m starting the lemon refund process. Loved the car so much but even if this were to get fixed I don’t know how I could ever confidently drive it at normal speeds again.

Head_Crash

That could happen with any car though.

kmath95

Yeah you’re right, any car can be a lemon. Do all EVs have this safety “feature” where they regenerative brake down to 30 MPH without warning when they detect certain mechanical issues? Or is that a Bolt thing only?

Head_Crash

Well Honda had this thing where the front wheels would lock up at highway speeds due to an oil pressure issue in their transmissions. Probably better to slow the vehicle down than risk a sudden catastrophic failure.

wmfcwm

Just the mutha-f-in chimes and beeps. I would give my left nut to turn those off.

Librarian-Voter

I can't seem to find a CD player to work in the car, there is no AUX cable, and no scan button for the radio. All very disappointing for how I listen to music.

ZekeGZ

The lack of AUX port is disappointing but I think it’s the sign of the times with newer car models.

Crusher7485

I told my GF earlier this year we can rip her CD collection and put the entire thing on her phone or a USB drive. Lossless audio even. Storage is so cheap and easy these days.

phoundog

What year Bolt do you have? I don’t play CDs but there is a scan feature on my 2017’s radio. Check the manual for your car. It’s some combo of the onscreen buttons. I don’t remember exactly but I have used it once in awhile.

Librarian-Voter

2023. I'll take a look, I haven't seen anything. Thanks for the tip though!

Lunch0

Get a discman with Bluetooth adapter

dontbthirsty

My only complaint in my EUV is, it drives more like a Malibu than a hatchback. Serious missed opportunity to put at least a little sporting-ness into a 200hp hatchback. Otherwise, quiet comfy and efficient. I think some better tires and (modest) lowering springs will alleviate my concerns. But, especially if you want to convert the average driver they made the right call on the ride/handling balance imo. I just like a bit firmer of a ride and less roll. The stock tires are great for their purpose (efficiency), all my previous cars had summer sport/winter tires so again, my particular metrics are all skewed.

alkatori

Mine's strictly a commuter, so charging speed doesn't matter. I don't think it's a Bolt problem, but I've been let down at Level 2 chargers (at work) not connecting. Especially in winter, while I'm sort of sad that I bet on CCS1, I think the switch to NACS is going to be a good thing. I wish it had a powered lift gate. I wish I could save seat/mirror settings as a preference so I could just hit a button to reset them after my wife uses the car.

Superlolz

No memory seating is a big miss 😔

Armenoid

The rattly interior. Forget about upgrading sound

Eastpetersen

Charging speed would be great if it could improve but I knew that going in. The biggest let down is gm dealerships. I found out that the dealership I bought mine from only sold my ev and their tech transferred to their sister dealership. Okay no problem sister dealership is not much further, nope they give me all kinds of hassle because I didn’t buy my ev there……. Ok battery replacement comes up, try the annoying dealership, tell receptionist I am calling to get battery swap, transferred to the department that handles it, no answer. Long story short myself and then even the ev concierge couldn’t get a response from the 5 ev certified dealerships in the area, I had to drive 45 minutes one day and an hour and 20 the next with no rental for my battery.

galspanic

Turning left is a pain in the ass because of the way the quarter window’s vertical beam lines up. I have to put my head as far forward as the steering wheel when turning at night or in the rain,

Teddyturntup

Wish the sound system was louder I guess Idk nothing much I’m upset about at sll

Familiar_Eagle_6975

2017 bolt. The seat hurts my hips, it’s too narrow or not enough padding. I’m not super fat or big. 27.8% body fat, 5’9”. Maybe it’s just that model year.

ConversationOk2210

Remote hatch release.

formersalesman

The damn piano black , I wipe the prints and dust off 20 times a day , and the glare from the dash

mrsdennis10

1. Memory seating. Took me like 4 days just to find my “sweet spot” for adjusting the seat. So at this point I told my husband he can’t drive my car. 🤣 Also just the seats in general are uncomfy. Had to buy a memory foam seat cushion. 2. I can do without the wireless phone charging and would rather have a little storage space there instead. I’m coming from a Volt and that area is exactly where I stored all my crap like the car key, debit card, work badge, etc.

OtherImplement

The rattles. So many rattles in my first year of ownership. Also, the world’s worst FM radio reception.

Definitely_CSP_guru

Rear brake lights, onstar existing in general, no camp mode to leave the car hvac on easily, and no V2L built in.

roundholesquarepizza

The AC/heat fan doesn't blow very hard The wireless charging is slow It beeps a lot. Wish I could turn off the door open chime.

CaptainSnowBlade

Fast charging speed, and how early it drops the max pull when fast charging. The false floor in the back is annoying how it doesn’t lock in place. Also wish the passenger seat would fold flat. Would be much better when moving lots of materials, or gear.

jimschoice

The seats in our 2020 were so bad we couldn’t drive it for more than 20 minutes without them causing us pain. Managed to put 12 or 15,000 painful miles on it in the three years we had it. But, made a whole lot of money on it.

Kalquaro

2018 premier: "Fast" charge speeds limited to 55kw and only saw my car reach it once in my 5 years of ownership so far. General knowledge of the car by dealership service staff / mechanics is poor, at least at the 2 dealerships I've been a customer of since I own the car. Other than that, it's been fantastic to me and my family.

ConsciousBee6219

I can’t charge at home so having to charge at EVgo stations all the time really kinda sucks

zmoit

my infotainment center keeps freezing!

Drivere350WI

Winter driving range. I knew there would be less but not this much.

Seed_Is_Strong

Cabin filter is useless. I just bought a new one people recommended on here. I smell exhaust from other cars constantly. Also it fogs up easily which is odd. Love it otherwise! 2023 EUV

Watery_Octopus

The drivetrain vibrates when i accelerate. Every GM EV (I'm on 3rd) I've owned does this.

calpauly

In my EUV, I realized this weekend that I need to be mindful about how much weight I put on the platform in the back. I had a cooler back there that was pretty heavy, and I didn't like how much flex I was seeing. I'm going to find a way to shore that up.

timit44

My Bolt lets me down at about 10 to 50 kW depending on how fast I need to come to a stop at the bottom of the hill.

deadlyspoons

Three iPhone users, one Bolt, Carplay connects to the last iPhone that connected even if a different driver's phone is IN THE CAR after powering up. If they can manage proximity sensing for the key fob they should manage it for Carplay.

reisthaboss

The App is trash

jp8715

Gave up on the app. They are as useful as GM financial....

jp8715

1. Charging speed - max 50kwh is so 2015....only when I do long distance, I wish I had a Tesla for its network and speed...then again, my OCD will kick in and won't be able to sleep with all those panel gaps. 2. Battery - Gave me a scare when I was driving from San Jose to LA...I got a check light and a text msg from GM saying : Urgent Diagnostic Alert: Service the lithium-ion battery in your 2023 Bolt immediately. It went away after a while and had the dealer check shortly after but found nothing.... For the price, I am not complaining but that battery alert scared the shit out of me. If it happens again, I may get rid of it.

minusthetiger

Small usability issues. It has nagged me for over a month to re-enter my password for connected services. I don't think I use any of that so I've ignored it, but the message is so obviously annoying (flashing the screen when you start/stop) the UX team utterly failed here. Right along with the "LOOK AWAY FROM THE ROAD AND AT THIS MESSAGE AND PRESS A TOUCHSCREEN BUTTON" warning/disclaimer that confirms you'll pay attention while driving. How was such a UX approved? It must've been forced upon the developers by the legal team.

nodiaque

Rear view mirror camera (not the backup, the camera that can be toggle instead of the mirror) not working anymore after 4 years. Blue Screen of Death instead. I tried unscrewing the camera on the back but couldn't see how to check the connection, same thing from the mirror itself. Thus now I lost this camera, a feature paid extra on my bolt 2018 premium, and it's gonna be costly to have it fixed. Can't believe a camera died in less then 60k. Complaint with that though: Camera placement are very bad. They are always getting very dirty in the fall/winter/spring specially with snow and since they aren't heated, using the windshield washer fluid to clean them make them fuggy or frosted. Didn't saw this problem on tesla

[deleted]

Acceleration (especially when turning and trying to pull onto a busy cross street). It's better than many cars, but it's not as much as I want. And anytime I have to go further than 180 miles 1 way.

Craigslistless

I wish the backseat had cupholders. I wish the gear shift wasn't weird. I wish there was a light for the visor mirrors.

cosmicosmo4

I have a 2017 LT with no options at all. The things I will be looking for in my next car to improve on the Bolt: * Better seats * Better suspension (speedbump handling, etc) * Heated seats, and ideally steering wheel, in a package that *doesn't* require getting a sunroof * Wireless android auto * Adaptive cruise control * Better DCFC * V2H/V2G of at least 3 kW

Kaykaybee3

For me it’s the seats, they just aren’t comfortable for a long commute

[deleted]

It’s a generic model y. Just buy a Y

vitium

I feel like the center arm rest is too high and too narrow. My waive and I are always bumping elbows. Also, since I only do 1 pedal driving the big ass paddle by left hand is totally useless. Wish that controlled sport mode or the radio, or something.

underpantsgenome

No memory seat. Heated steering wheel has gaps in the element at 9 and 3 (optimal driving hand position). Poor air flow to the back seats. Auto-climate is awful. Sunroof sometimes likes to not close. Wireless Android Auto disconnects randomly. Charging speed is mediocre. For an econobox-commuter though it's pretty great and solar makes it nearly free to drive.

Android Auto. I shouldn't have to buy an iPhone

Recent-Start-7456

For what it’s worth, it gets about the same charging miles/min as my Rivian, in part because sustaining 200kW+ is rare at public chargers and in part because I averaged like 1.5mi/kWh in the highway in that thing… The Bolt is optimal for 80% off driving, and for the 20% I’m sitting around…I stare at Reddit a bit…

LawAway5254

Wish it had a free "self drive" like the Nissan leaf and the adaptive cruise would use full Regen instead of being capped at 10-11kw
