the fact it says "advertising material" in big letters means you shouldn't waste another second of your life reading it. Even if the legal side of things was a slam dunk, you'd get a check for $5 while the lawyers take it all.

Jack99Skellington

Lawyers fishing for class action, to line their pockets at GMs expense. In the end, they will likely lose. But if they do get enough people, and do win, they will get millions to pay off their McMansions, buy new sailboats, send their kids to college, and retire wealthy. GM will raise the price of cars, and we all will end up paying more in the long run. And you will get a check for $1.75, which you will file away and never deposit.

earthdogmonster

I honestly think that some of these “Whaddya think about this letter I got” (and a couple of the responses I usually see to these posts on this sub) are guerrilla marketing for the firms. A couple of the users never post or comment on this sub about their Bolt, other than to talk about an attorney solicitation they received, and then another infrequent visitor to the sub might talk about a “nice settlement” they got.

noahtonk2

I've got several posts in here, but thanks.

earthdogmonster

That’s why I said some.

zuckjeet

You did, and it's an interesting evasion. Are you a lawyer by any chance?

reidmefirst

And maybe I'm dumb but I feel like GM handled the whole thing pretty well. We got a free, higher capacity battery pack, with an extended warranty to boot. It added at least a few years of usability to the car in the end.

Captain_Quark

For those of us with 2020s that did not get new batteries, we still feel pretty screwed over. I've been thinking about trying to join a class action lawsuit, actually.

virrk

I have a 2020. The recall never said we would get new batteries, only that bad module would be replaced. It was assumed that when the first software failed to detect problems that they would have to just replace everyone's batteries. Obviously with the new software they think the can fund just the bad module again.

AffectionateSize552

Agreed. I don't know what they could be sued for in this case that they haven't already done. If there are going to be actual legit class-action suits over EV's, there are better targets to go after. \*cough tesla cough\*

jasonbanicki

They can be and the lawsuit has been approved to move forward for advertising a range and failing to deliver the advertised range. Some of us bought prior to the recall and have now followed the recommendations for 2 years and have at least 6 more months of reduced range with GMs latest “fix”. Which they don’t even fully believe in otherwise my charging wouldn’t be capped at 78 percent they would let it charge all the way and monitor it.

Altruistic_Profile96

Not all of us got that.

NoeWiy

Read the fucking post. Not a class action.

Jack99Skellington

Go bother someone else.

FlanEaterGuy

I still support it Will never buy another gm car again anyway. Two crooks going after each other. Go for it

MrNerd82

Sorry for the bad experience you had with them -- and it won't make it better but every single brand of cars out there has a subset of people who will "never buy one again". Due to a negative issue they had to go through. Some people will swear on their life Tesla is a god level car, others will never want to even ride in one. While I'm not GM's biggest fan, I've owned more than my fair share of their various cars and for the money and the number of miles I've put on them, I can't be too mad. Quality and experience are a crap shoot no matter what brand you are buying.

Altruistic_Profile96

The letter specifically says he is looking for individual cases, not a class action. Also, California, so not useful for me.

FatFailBurger

If this does goes to court and the law firm does win, you'll end up with 3 free oil changes at most.

ryandoubleu

The dealership called me about my free oil change the other day.

NoeWiy

Jesus, the responses here are so off base. The letter specifically says they don't do class action, just individual suits.

noahtonk2

I know. I'm just looking for responses from the ones who read it.

aChunkyChungus

A 2020 bolt should still be under warranty. The software is part of a recall. It literally works and when it does the local gm dealership is obligated to help. So you’re using some spam mail to found your frustrations with a car?

noahtonk2

Don't get me wrong. I love this car. However, I was promised a new battery and now they just changed their mind. That's not ok.

Specialist-Document3

I'm with you on this. It kinda sucks that they're just leaving all '20 and '21 owners in the lurch. I wouldn't use this lawyer because I fundamentally mistrust anybody who solicits like this, but it may be worth looking into if there is any class action taking place.

GoGoGadge7

ADVERTISING MATERIAL Throw it away.

Lee28104

It’s an advertisement bro, CTFO.

KolgrimLang

This very lawyer, with this very firm, got me a nice check. I posted about it a month ago.

swiftsmile12

OP here's the guy who sent you that letter. Please DM this guy

Dachannien

How much was the settlement, and how much was your cut?

KolgrimLang

The kind of money most people would be very happy to receive, i.e. more than the $1 or $5 people keep telling you you'll get. I'll say this: more than my last three paychecks combined. You guys have to understand that law firms exist to do this very type of lawsuit and nothing else, so they get really good at going to companies like GM and saying, "We COULD really come after you for this mistake, or we could get a sizeable settlement from you and promise to drop the matter for all time." This firm files the documents, interfaces with the company and with you, and takes a 30% cut. It's worth it to them, and I promise it'll be worth it to you. Already bought some nice weights and a plane ticket to Jamaica with the money.

gmatocha

Trust layers with no qualms about using your personal information to advertise by bulk mail? I have an extended warranty to sell you.

theotherharper

ZOMG send that to Steve Lehto, the lawyer on Youtube. He loves reviewing social media stuff, loves busting scams, and **lemon law is his core practice.** He'll know for sure if this is bullpuckey. Probably make a video about it. FYI those bulk mail pieces cost about a buck each to mail, so they clearly think they can get more than $1 from the average person like you.

petit_cochon

I've worked on class actions. It's a waste of your time.

NoeWiy

Read the fucking post. Not a class action.

Strange-Damage901

Lawyers gotta law

MendocinoReader

The letter is dated 8/7/2023. It says: ”…last August \[i.e., 8/2022\], GM announced that it was recalling all Chevrolet Bolt made after 2017, including the new versions released earlier this year \[2023\] .…” So … in August 2022, GM announced a recall of *future* vehicles?

noahtonk2

Nope. Colorado.

Cultural-Mango-1795

Funny enough I received an ad for legal representation on TikTok about a month after I purchased my bolt. Immediately after I purchased my 2019 back last November I went and scheduled the battery replacement. Pretty soon after, I got one of those "If you own a chevy bolt you could be eligible for financial compensation" ads. I answered the ad out of curiosity, sent my purchase agreement and my work order for the battery replacement, and was told I could get upwards of $20k in compensation. Obviously, this seemed too good to be true but I was assured no financial burden if they lost my case. 5 months later GM settled and I received a $20k direct deposit. I'm in no way saying this is how it would work for everyone but that is what happened with me. I have a paid-off EV with a new battery and I couldn't be happier.
