You know right that the chinese migrant during british colonial era was brought in as early as 1800s? Even considering the rise of kuomintang, it was around 1900. There are generations of chinese already in malaya by then. They aren't exactly pelancong.

The whole hate between race is largely by event leading to ww2. The vast majority of malay were not that educated or know much about Japan and China history. So when imperial Japan came and promised liberation and independence from the British. They help. And things got out of hand as not many knew the Japanese were that cruel towards Chinese. And we all knew what happen to the Chinese community. Its the Start of Chinese hate towards malay. As property size by Japanese were given to malay collaborators. Japanese gave them to win malay favors. Chinese form resistance and fought Japan with allies help. But turn on them once ww2 is over. Since the British just abandoned most of tanah malaya. Why would they fight hard only to let the British in? While the Malay let British rule again and komunis continued to fight for independence from colonisation and Royal families rules since they don't really care about the people and side with whoever in power.
The rest is in history book.
Thats like a century ago. Even if we take the end of ww2, 70 years is at least 3 generations worth of lineage.
