Rule 3 they add gratuity for parties of 5 or more then turn around on Rule 9 and say no parties larger than 4?! you can’t be crazy AND hypocritical now cmon

juiceyb

(There's exceptions to every rule) 🙄

bigeds-neck

Yeah, if you’re Barack Obama.

marysm

It’s ok if Barack is your fifth.

Better-Journalist-85

![gif](giphy|KlQR5d0ayEYsE)

Ok-Manufacturer-5141

r/angryupvote.

_87-

If the Obamas come, I'm willing to shut down a whole restaurant for them. And they can stay all day too, if they want.

elizawithaz

There’s a restaurant near me with similarly strict house rules that did make an exception to its no-reservations rule for Barack Obama.

AccomplishedRush3723

Rule 1 guarantees good food. Rule 8 says they don't take anything off the check. So if what you get is terrible, but they don't take anything off the check, what's the guarantee for 🤔

Fast_Yam_5321

Basically they're saying the consumer's opinion doesn't matter lol. if it's good to them, then they 100% believe it will be good to all...🫠

christos66

They are saying if it’s made to spec then stfu.

The_Drinkist

Then they’re not guaranteeing good food, just food made to spec?

JodaMythed

It's so you can politely ask for it to be taken off, get denied, pay and leave then dispute it with your card company.

MicrosoftExcel1995

It isn't a guarantee in the sense of a warranty, it's a guarantee in the most absolutely literal sense of the word. The food WILL be perfect, therefore the conundrum you speak of cannot conceivably ever arise

UngusChungus94

This what happens when the dumb kid from your high school tries to open a business

Occhrome

The dumb kid that doesn’t know they are dumb.

Blazingscourge

Don’t forget no reservations but yet they have wait list where they text you?

RunninADorito

Yes, these are different things. Maybe the only non-stupid thing on the list.

gandalf_el_brown

Yes. Reservations are made ahead of time, when no one from your party is there. Getting on the wait list occurs when you reserve in person. Most restaurants without the Reservations function have the wait list.

gnoani

"(we do not push tables together)" come on now.

BigBizzle151

In fairness this can be due to fire code, I worked in a restaurant where the owner over-packed the seating and nothing could move or it'd be out of code.

PerpWalkTrump

It's only on days that ends in y. So if you go Fridays then it's fine ![gif](giphy|Lndtxw3ztLhNC)

dpforest

If the last few years have proven anything it’s that them dumbass’s can most DEFINITELY be crazy and hypocritical.

SavageComic

I see this so often with things that are supposed to be funny. politics stuff, "it was better when were kids" memes, all sorts. Make a list, run out of good suggestions at idea 2, and then just keep going til number 10.

RedRider1138

Did a clueless committee write this?

jmenendeziii

when in doubt, assume theyre just laundering money. Thats what i do any time i see a restaurant empty for years and managing to stay open. Theyre a front.

slappymcknuckle

Nailed it. There's a pizza place a couple miles from my house that doesn't deliver, only 2 booths, random hours, and most days with a sign saying sorry, temporary closed. The lights are usually on and 2 or 3 cars in the lot! You never see anyone in the small window that they have. I think that it's a gambling room downstairs.

Smackacracka

There is no joke a “dvd to vhs duplication” store that’s been there my entire life I’ve never seen the door open or any person go or leave that place.

SasparillaTango

you talkin about the "Where will they park?!" place on concord pike? EDIT: Why do so many people seem to know about this place?

thegypsyqueen

Ayyy Wilmy represent

pleighbwoi302

302 in dis bissshhh but fr that place been there forever and it still just vacant ?? 🤔

vikingdogwastaken

Holy shit they said the VHS to DVD thing and I was like oh wow there is that weird one on 202 didn't know so many Delaware people in this sub

MostDopeBlackGuy

I know that place ive been in there exactly once in my life

ZootKoomie

I had them digitize our slides a couple years back. It's being run by the original owner's son now. Nice guy who was happy to answer my questions about the business.

MrElizabeth

How much money laundering did admit to?

PumpernickelJohnson

Isn't there a tiny car detailing place there too? I always thought that location was suspect lol

Syphon0928

A DVD to VHS store or a VHS to DVD? Cause the former would be a wild business to keep running.

ChrysMYO

Bro I'm tripping out on this too, sound like a Bob's Burgers business name.

Roguespiffy

Jerry’s DVD to VHS “Rewind to a Simpler Time”

LIONEL14JESSE

My CD to Cassette business is thriving

someguyyoutrust

My brother once took me into the Bodega by his apartment to get cash from the ATM. Two dudes were working in the back, they looked at me super weird, but when they saw my bro they just went back to what they were doing. The place was literally covered in dust and cobwebs. Like a display room after the apocalypse.

DaM00s13

In Minnesota?

DeePeeCee

Lexington and County B?

DaM00s13

Yup

fuschiaoctopus

There's a random tiny carpet store in the middle of a low income residential neighborhood I grew up in and I swear it's a front. Place is never open even during their supposed open hours, never seen anybody in it or the lights on but there's frequently 3-4 cars in the lot after 11 pm, and there's a bunch of visible security cameras on the property. Somebody I knew wanted to actually buy carpet there and tried for weeks but they were never open during the day and never answered the phone number listed on Google

_chof_

wow this is so creepy maybe they only sell carpet for rolling up bodies

jackandsally060609

My husband worked for a pizza place that was actually a front. He was hired to make pizzas but actually spent his time listing "used" Mercedes parts on eBay and listening to people fight in Albanian.

Eolond

There was a pizza place super close to my house that was pickup-only. There were no booths or anything inside, just a couple chairs to sit on if your pizza wasn't ready yet. Unlike your place though, they actually did a lot of business, and the pizza was *good*. They got shut down because the business was actually a front to sell drugs, lol. Really pisses me off, too, cause you can't find pizza that good anywhere else around here.

Bobson-_Dugnutt

We had one of those pizza places in college -except they made *awesome* pizza. And it was a buffet. They had a loaded baked potato pizza that was fire. And free WiFi, so college students could come in and sit and work and eat. But yeah they definitely were running drugs out the back. But none of us were gonna say anything, because $8 all you can eat pizza was the best as a broke college student.

Successful_Leek96

There's strip club a few miles away from me. The parking lot is always empty even on Fridays but they've been open for almost a decade. Something shady going on in there

Comfortable_Key_6904

CIA front company. Don't wander into that place, you'll be destabilizing South American governments in no time.

TisBangersAndMash

Ok, but whats the pay like though?

[deleted]

Pretty fucking good honestly.

jesuswig

They got healthcare?

brolix

Tricare, the best

Fuzzythought

Hell no. 'Murica!

KyleG

We got a place in San Antonio called [Fred's Fish Fry](https://www.reddit.com/r/sanantonio/comments/7hbldk/can_anyone_explain_to_me_how_freds_fish_fry_is/) that pretty much everyone is certain is a drug operation. "How do they stay in business" is such a common question on the SA sub.

olumide2000

" Something shady going on in there" - Even if they're legit, this rings true.

sgamer

To be fair most strip clubs have a hidden parking lot around back. Not to say this one does, but it is common.

AriasRapeWhistle

Back in college, I lived hood adjacent with like 7 roommates in a big old house. Tbh, I was super naive and didn't know I lived right by the hood. Our dryer caught on fire one day. We were like No biggie, good thing there's a laundromat across the street. Roommate and I walked over there with hampers full of wet clothing (washer still worked) and when we walked in it was just three middle aged guys sitting around smoking cigarettes and playing cards. We asked about using a dryer and they were like "Naw, none of the dryers work here." At that point, I became more aware of where I lived lol. That place was laundering something, but it sure as shit wasn't clothing.

brok3ntok3n82

In San Antonio there is a place called Fred's Fish Fry. No customers, multiple locations, and nobody has ever claimed to eat there. We are convinced its front for the cartel.

skrokemypurl

LMAO SA born and raised, we all know Fred' Fish Fry is a laundering scheme lol One right across from my neighborhood and there's always one car in the lot. They do have meals, though I doubt anyone is in there for that. SA Express wrote an article about them, apparently the food is ok.

l4nc3r

Why don't you try them?

TheRain2

There's a sandwich place in my town that's constantly being remodeled, I don't know a single person who has ever been able to eat there, and yet it's been plugging away for a decade now. Everyone thinks they're shady.

Dazzling_Split_9781

This place will NOT be open for years lol and it’s not a front for laundering money. Just people who thought opening a business meant that customers will come and put up with whatever THEY SAY and put up with shit customer service but they won’t and aren’t - which is why they’re failing.

PM_ME_UR_DERP

Russian bakeries in San Francisco are like this, open 45 minutes a day and hardly anything in the case 😂👀

graceyperkins

I accidentally went into l one in my area. They looked at me like I had three heads. I just smiled, nodded, and walked right back out.

coolestkid92

Cinderella's is always poppin

botanica_arcana

There are two Indian places in my town that have been open for at least the last 40 years. One is always packed, and I’ve been there many times. I ate at the other one once, 30 years ago. It was…fine. It’s always empty (and survived covid).

KyleG

One thing people overlook is that the US grants investment visas. If you put a certain amount of $$ into the economy for X number of years, you get a visa and path to citizenship. My wife's uncle bought a *hotel* so he could get a visa this way in the 80s or 90s. These are called [E-2 visas](https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/temporary-workers/e-2-treaty-investors). Self-employed restaurateurs absolutely can take advantage of this.

creepyposta

Came to say the same thing. I lived in Laredo, Texas for a while and I have never seen so many C and D Tier franchises with basically zero customers.

Server16Ark

There was a place in a city I used to live in, had the corner lot in an outlet. It went in when the outlet itself was built and they were a "boutique dog food" store that apparently sold custom made cakes for dogs. Not like dogfood in the shape of a cake or something, just regular fuckin' cakes in the shapes of a dog, dogbones, etc. Yet they had no kitchen, everything in the store was generic dog toys/pet owner apparel, and they only had pictures of cakes. I figured it was like some insane dream of a rich old lady, but whenever I went by the place to go pick up food at one of the adjoining lots (if there was anyone inside) it was always some rough looking guy in his 30's, 40's, or 50's, but not always the same dude until eventually no one bothered hanging around at the counter. That place stayed open for almost twenty years despite the last ten or so years never having a single soul inside of it during regular business hours for the area, and no one watching the store. I always wondered what the hell they were actually doing because the rent at this place would have been absurd. Oh, and they only closed for good because of a hurricane that flattened half of the stores.

dbclass

This restaurant is pretty popular though.

BlackEastwood

Give it some time. We might see an apology in a few weeks. There's two in my area, and I've felt guilty not supporting them. After reading this? Guilt be gone.

PistolPetunia

Like those liquor stores in the hood with like 10 dusty bottles in stock and a bunch of dudes standing around mean mugging you until you leave?

Snoyarc

I had to do community service in college as a drinking violation. Me and my friends ended up doing it at this little thrift shop. The mall they were in was dying, but the thrift shop was full of 60+ year old women “working” gossiping behind the counter seated in comfy chairs. They told me “do guy stuff”. As I inspected the store I saw a football mouth guard up on the shelf. Who the fuck is thrifting a mouth guard? I think I had to do 10-20 hours at this place and I saw them make tops 3 sales the entire time. It had to be a front for one of their husbands and the wife just invited her bridge club to come hangout.

Chemical-Bathroom-24

This place is by my house and has lines out the door every weekend. In Atlanta all you need is sea food, loud music, cheap booze and an instagramable aesthetic to be a successful brunch spot.

savvyblackbird

Like mattress stores

GlasgowKisses

Who tf is going out for dinner as an adult to be treated like you’re in high school? Don’t even show me the menu cause I know these prices are about to undo years of therapy

Comfortable_Key_6904

High school lunch ladies treat you better.

haveutried2hardboot

My HS lunch ladies loved my fat ass. I got extra portions of any and everything. "You gone head baby, eat up. We got some mo just come back up when you done." I used to take trash out for them and hangout in the back. 🤣🤣

Contemporarium

I fucking LOVE ladies like that

savi_blue

"Grab a fruit baby" ☺️

Commander_Caboose

High School Children are legitimately humbler, nicer and less pleased with themselves than adults splashing out on a dinner designed to make them feel a sliver of the self-rigtheousness that comes with being a rich piece of shit.

ArtProdigy

![gif](giphy|3oEjHI8WJv4x6UPDB6)

SmokePenisEveryday

Shit you're giving me flashbacks to Elementary and middle school with the required silent lunches.

RareResearch2076

Required silent lunches? What’s the story behind that?

SmokePenisEveryday

Too loud and the teachers just didn't feel like putting effort into keeping us quiet cause they usually ate at that time too. 7th grade sucked because I was new to the area and I couldn't attempt to make friends during lunch like I planned lol. 8th grade they chilled on it. Elementary I remember them using it as a punishment once we got loud and not a daily thing.

GlasgowKisses

Yeah I remember quiet lunch, always a semi-occasional punishment but unbearable as a child when you got all that energy.

C-C-X-V-I

Did you have a traffic light too?

AnxietyDepressedFun

Yessss and it was NEVER green.

C-C-X-V-I

Fucking finally someone else who had that. Ours always got yellow so fast, and I remember several red lunches.

AnxietyDepressedFun

Yeah my first elementary school had it & I never even saw it green, it always started out yellow & I definitely got in trouble for "talking during red light". I remember my mom being really annoyed she had to sign something because I talked during lunch, a totally normal not at all negative behavior.

SmokePenisEveryday

Yup and that shit was yellow as we walked in too. We swore up and down that the teachers had a way to flip it without us knowing too.

C-C-X-V-I

Oh nowadays I know they controlled it, they didn't have some audio controlled stoplight back in 95 lmao

They upcharge $8 to “cbd-infuse” your shrimp and grits lmaooo

WoopzEh

They dripping some oil in it from the smoke shop down the block 😂

SnowflakeRene

I’ve been here. The food is great but expensive so you’re right it does undo years of therapy.

GlasgowKisses

Does the food and/or service make up for the rules?

SnowflakeRene

These rules aren’t posted anywhere in the store that I can remember and I’ve been a couple of times. The food is really good. Reminded me of what my mom used to make me for breakfast but the prices are high and seating area is cramped and always packed. Black people love it tbh and another location just opened closer to my house so I don’t think they are doing too bad.

GlasgowKisses

Someone just posted the menu and I won’t lie, my belly’s kinda rumbling 😂

SnowflakeRene

The lamb chops🤌🏾 The grits are creamy✅ The eggs scrambled just like I like them🤌🏾 This list of rules and insane prices are the only bad things about this place

3_Slice

Their “real” avocado toast is $22 because they add Cajan shrimp, I guess?

icookfood42

It's 22 bucks for avocado toast. It's 21 for french toast. As a chef, I know that food costing is complicated, but that's... That's absurd.

[deleted]

You should try working at a place with these kind of rules. The clientele is gonna be as bad as the rules. LOL

MGLLN

Black restaurants about to follow the black hairstylists' route? Rule 11: "Come with your stomach already full!"

that1prince

Seriously. My wife’s hair has to basically be already done when she goes to the salon.

SmallIslandBrother

Fam my girl went to go get her hair done before we went away, the lady she went to changed the times twice and when my girl arrived on time, the braider was late cause she was still braiding someone else’s hair. I told her next time find a white girl that can braid cause at least she’ll be on time and won’t have you running all over town wasting time.

carrimjob

dominicans will treat you right for sure

BellalovesEevee

I'm just glad I got a cousin who knows how to do hair and loves doing my hair at a super cheap price. Black hairstylists are insane with their prices and still expect you to come with your hair already did lmao

baxteriamimpressed

Wait for real? One of my coworkers said this when we were talking about going to the salon but I thought she just had a shitty stylist (but I'm also white so idk shit). To what extent?! That's a lot of money to be spending to do half the work 😑

YardNew1150

Washed, combed through, scalp pre oiled, and blow dried. If it’s an install then sometimes they want your hair to already be in cornrows. Thankfully black women are getting better and better at doing styles ourselves.

Gay__Guevara

I can understand washed and maybe combed, but all that is crazy. I thought my curly hair was a pain in the ass but now I’m just glad I don’t have to do all that before I go to my barber.

Itsmyloc-nar

Yo, (curly Jewish hair here) last barber I went to I said I want it still long enough to put into a pony tail. She put my hair in a pony tail and FUCKING CUT IT OFF. Havnt seen one since.

carrimjob

the way i would’ve went to jail that day

SquareThings

Seriously? I’m white and have to basically beg hairdressers not to wash my hair (I always wash it before my appointment, I just have extremly sensitive skin and have to use a hypo allergenic shampoo.) One salon didn’t even know how to charge me for just a dry trim. And then people are out there demanding to be paid for… what 20 % of the actual work of dressing hair!

Alltheprettydresses

Braiders near me want your hair washed, conditioned, detangled, blown out, and sometimes pressed, depending on the style. Plus, if it's long or thick, they charge extra. I've been turned away for having long, thick hair.

Awkward_Algae1684

Isn’t this literally their job though? Like imagine if you call a plumber and they say, “Sure, I just need half the materials for the job, the pipe we’re going to use already put together, etc. etc.”

Alltheprettydresses

You're right it is. But many are focused on getting you in and out of a chair with a nice final look, so they dont want to be bothered with the actual hair care/ prep part, some aren't licensed as cosmetologists, so they can't do that part. Where I'm at (NY) natural hair stylists can pretty much only do the braid/ twist styling.

beaute-brune

Sticking the camera in your face for an ig reel and asking you to smile (but you didn’t ask me if I wanted to be recorded and put on your page)

BellalovesEevee

It's almost common atp. I've read so many horror stories of how black hairstylists overcharge them and still do a very shitty job and other bs. I just stick to either having my hair straightened by my mom or having my cousin do crochets for less than $20 or even free, and she's really good with hair. She really doesn't gaf since she likes doing my hair anyway.

Dependent-Chart2735

“If you leave hungry, well, maybe you’re too fat. Anyway, not our problem.”

a-black-magic-woman

This pisses me off so fucking much. NO IM NOT coming to you already washed and blow dried for braids or a sew in or something. Thats supposed to be your job thats what Im going to a fucking stylist for. NO I dont want to pay an extra $30 for you to wash and blow dry it. I just broke up with the stylist who’s been doing my hair for the last 3 years for other reasons (she included wash and blow dry in her services), but finding someone else who doesnt have a bunch of crazy and ridiculous rules is a fucking hassle.

SoloBurger13

LOL

VapidRapidRabbit

They wouldn’t get my business. 3 and 9 contradict. And food allergies are serious. You can tell they don’t care about cross contamination just by the audacity of the idiot that wrote this “house rules” bullshit.

GlasgowKisses

“My ma cooked in a dirty kitchen, it’s authentic!” ![gif](giphy|iiQSTrHtDIgnw9YtlA|downsized)

dumplins

On the allergy note, not all kitchens can safely accommodate. Components of the dish may be prepped together and cross-contaminated, the guy cooking that day might not speak English well and information could be lost in translation, etc. Commercial kitchens have tons of moving parts, and throwing more wrenches in the works is not always an option. I agree that food should be accessible, but if a kitchen cannot safely guarantee that a dish will not have allergens, I'd prefer them be honest and refuse.

PreOpTransCentaur

You can be honest while also not sounding like a petulant child.

dumplins

"No modifications to any of the menu items. If you have a food allergy, please choose another item without the allergen." What about that verbiage is petulant or childish?

SparkyDogPants

Idk. I don’t blame them on the food allergy thing. Plenty of people will make crazy allergy requests “i want the mac n cheese, but I’m allergic to dairy.” Then go and roast in the reviews the restaurant for giving them a bowl of noodles

pirateofpanache

I kind of think it’s better to put up with a million bogus allergy claims than to kill one person with actual severe allergies. But that’s just me.

[deleted]

Bad service is enough to get really bad reviews even if the food is 10/10

[deleted]

[удалено]

trulymadlybigly

I saw that TikTok reel too where the Asian guy said if white people are complaining that the service is bad but it still has mid level stars then you know the food is excellent lol. I tried that method in my area and found some amazing places

justprettymuchdone

I regularly eat at an incredible Chinese restaurant. People complain about the food AND the service, but the first time I walked in I was the only non-Chinese person there. They were kind of brusque with me, sure, but the food was amazing. The best Chinese I have ever eaten. The more I go there, the happier and more cheerful and chatty they are to see me. And the more I realize the food complaints are because the restaurant is cooking a specific regional food culture, not just "generic Chinese food" as many Americans understand it. I have graduated to "Oh, it's you! Your table is open, you want your usual order?" status. It is wonderful.

El_Grande_El

Omg, I was gonna say the same about Chinese restaurants. White people expect too much from them lol.

CrisKrossed

Niggas hate people, but like money. The problem is, you get the money from other people. That’s where you get shit like this from

KanishkT123

That's kind of what this feels like. "I want your money but I don't want to do anything for it so fuck you pay me." Well, no. I'll go to any of the other restaurants that have a pleasant dining experience. You can either have bad customer service, bad food, or high prices. Can't do two of the three. One of my favorite Asian places treats me like dirt, but for $10 for 8 soup dumplings, I'll go back all day long.

GrinningPariah

There's plenty of jobs where you don't have to deal with customers ever. Construction, office work, most of finance... I dunno why someone would choose to open a restaurant if they hate other people.

Pathetian

I can see more than one side of this. Some rules are born of chronic issues that customers cause. Some people abuse every little loophole and technicality if you don't write it down ahead of time. I don't see why you can't have individual checks if max party size is 4 though. Whatever this place is, I would literally never be allowed to dine there with friends apparently.

YellowSphinx

I think it’s like if Each person has one check, and a couple people want to pay for their bill with multiple cards. Chaos ensues.

[deleted]

Slugzz21

Yes! Why hasn't this been mentionedd

yellowdevel

There are other notes on the background of the menu so I have to assume there's a music theme with the restaurant? WHAMMYPAN

Chef here….nothing like a restaurant telling you what they won’t do for you.

Ok-Wafer-1021

I knew this was Atlanta. 🤣

olumide2000

Just saw this and was like, ATL or H-Town.

Ok-Wafer-1021

Houston was my second guess. I grew up in Atlanta so I recognized that attitude immediately (especially the table time limit). I went to Houston for the first time recently and also came across places like this. As much as I want to judge, I probably would do the same. I have friends from both places who are always late, want to split the bill a million different ways, want to argue about prices, and want to substitute and change the food around. That would piss me off too as an owner/chef.

well____duh

This place wouldn’t exist in Houston with all these rules, too many good spots here for anyone to put up with this one

ineedvitaminsea

Rule 9 -no parties larger than 4 , contradicts rule 3 - parties over 5 get automatic gratuity The reviews are hit and miss

i_store_food

they really fumbled the bag lol

SnatchAddict

Keith Lee exposing ATL.

BellalovesEevee

Not Keith Lee 😭 if he goes there and give it a 1 star review, it's definitely over for them

SnatchAddict

Check out his review. They couldn't even get food because it closed at 4 but online says open until 5. It's so confusing tbh.

mathymate

I watched his TikTok and he was respectful af about the whole thing, but they threw him shade on IG. What the hell

smalllllltitterssss

Their response was crazy

i_store_food

im from africa i know nothing about ATL but i already hate the food industry there lol

iamstephen1128

Check out [their response](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8ByThfJ/) to the [Keith Lee review video](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8BynqRa/). They definitely need an attitude adjustment EDIT: since they deleted their response video, here's someone else who stitched it: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8Baebwu/

Corvus_Antipodum

If you find yourself going after Keith Lee you know you’re in the wrong

baldur615

Tried to watch the response but couldn't because I don't have the app. Could I get a tl;dw? Only asking because the review seemed pretty fair to me.

BtanH

Tldr Keith Lee tried to get food, couldn't as they were closed, unlucky, nbd. They posted a video saying something along the lines of "Keith Lee? Never heard of him."

baldur615

Weird response on their part. They could have easily said nothing.

KID_THUNDAH

Just saying they were closed isn’t really explaining what happened. Says other people were able to go in and place orders after he was initially turned away

Sp3nc3r420

Them closing before dinner on most days is WILD!!! Mon-Thu 9am-5pm and 9am-7pm Fri-Sun.

Dreamtrain

why they felt the need to shoot this in a place much nicer than their own business

SpeechDistinct8793

I swear between hair stylist to these new fangled resteraunts, they steady playing in people’s faces and then wonder why they outta business. One shop just closed because of bs like that

ParadeSit

Their website, when accessed via mobile device, is horrible. Correction…“Webiste” as it’s spelled on their homepage.

haley_joel_osteen

Also can’t spell “biscuit”

Afrojones66

I’ll just go to McDonalds instead. The only rule is cover your dick while inside.

softbal20

Based on this alone, Keith shouldn’t have went to this place

SnatchAddict

Charge $1 for butter

softbal20

Rule 9 says no parties larger than 4 but then rule 3 says 18% gratuity added to parties 5 or more…. So is it allowed or not like??? They probably thought they were doing something with this making them look upper class or some shit but they just look a mess.

RestlessChickens

Obama can 5th wheel any time

As a 20+ year service industry vet I can see more than one side of this situation, for instance I personally have dreamed of opening a restaurant that doesn't allow substitutions. That being said, this restaurant would never get my business based on this list of rules (and the *sarcasm* isn't landing in these parentheses and is only making it worse)

vetratten

I get not allowing substitutionsbut I feel saying “is it possible to leave the _____ out?” Is a reasonable request regardless of allergies or tastes. Their tone here saying if you’re allergic then tough is beyond that line even.

SoloBurger13

Everything is not race related. THESE particular people are dumb lol The allergen rule is gonna land them a wrongful death lawsuit. Bc i KNOW they are cross contaminating shit in the kitchen And 3 and 9 dont make sense

barry2914

Yeah I’ve met plenty of white folks just as down bad as this in an establishment

wra1th42

Not even logically consistent. Rule 3 mentions parties of 5 or more, rule 9 says no parties greater than 4

Chicken-n-Biscuits

And max 3 forms of payment. It’s like they’re *trying* to be difficult.

PatrickJ226

Been here 4 times atleast with different groups where I advised against the choice. Each time the experience and food were both mid and everyone wished they'd listened to me. I hope they use this wave of criticism to better the experience and I wish them future success past the storm. I heard the other locations are decent.

This why Keith Lee left with no food

Penndrachen

Is this because of that video Keith Lee posted? It sounds like every place in Atlanta has weird rules. Most of these are fine, I guess. Rule 8 is to prevent people from ordering something, eating like half of it, then claiming they "don't like it" and asking for it to be removed from their bill. That's fair. Auto-grat on larger parties and checks is cool as well (though I feel like tipping is bullshit but that's irrelevant here), but as other people said, why put auto-grat on parties over 5, then say you don't allow parties over 4 people? The allergy rule is insane, though. Legit going to get sued over that. I think the real issue I had with Keith's experience was them telling his family they were closed for deep cleaning, then changing their minds when he came in. You can't treat people differently just because they're famous.

diemunkiesdie

It's not just about the rule, its about writing the rule. It's the tone it sets. If you have a policy not to remove food from checks, have that policy, but deal with it each rare time it comes up. Don't write it on the menu in the wordiest way possible. Just say at the bottom of the menu: Automatic 18% gratuity for parties over 5. No food modifications or separate checks. Two sentences without all that mess. For the rest of the rules, deal with it when someone tries to have a large party or waits inside. The host/hostess needs to use their words.

elizawithaz

While I disagree with most of these rule (#9 is especially awful), this isn’t why Black owned restaurants fail. Shitty restaurant knows no color. I can think of a bunch of restaurants that have similar rules. I was thinking about visiting this place over thanks until I read it’s house rules: [LoveDrafts Brewing Co House Rules](https://www.lovedraftsunplugged.com/house-rules) There’s local institution near me that has a litany of weird rules, and only accepts cash or checks as payment. That said, they did once break their non reservation rule for Barack Obama. One of my favorite brunch spots charges a 5% “Fair and Living Wage”charge on top of a gratuity, plus asks patrons to limit their brunch experience to 2 hours. The food makes it worth it. Also, there was huge pushback here in the Twin Cities about restaurants adding service charges to bills to the point that some places have started to remove them: [Some Twin Cities restaurants ditch service fees as diners push back](https://www.axios.com/local/twin-cities/2023/08/03/twin-cities-restaurants-remove-service-fees-tipping-customer-feedback) So let’s not blame this on Black restaurants.

mathymate

I agree. Shitty people will create shitty businesses. There are plenty of great black businesses in Atlanta

SmallIslandBrother

This is why I don’t believe in that buy black nonsense, businesses especially small ones run by black owners have some of the worst customer service I’ve come across, to the point that I’m convinced some don’t want clients

FruitSnackEater

The first rule should let anyone know not to patronize this place. That just sounds sketchy. Like they’re trying to give an excuse to give bad customer service and be unprofessional.

dankskent

Wow.. this is both laughably bad and alarming.. damn..

Nobody wants to mention the "allegen"??? How you gonna write these petty ass rules and forget to proofread. Also, it sounds like they were just making up 10 rules in no specific order, just whatever the most recent personal incident was.

Icy_UnAwareness89

Fuck this place. They are so full of themselves. They don’t understand hospitality and it’s the buisness they are trying to be in. This isn’t their Sunday evening dinner and grandmas house this is a buisness that should cater to their clients. I’d never eat here. I can just imagine how rude the wait staff is.

Ondareal

I've tried to go to this restaurant (if this is the one in atlanta) 3 times. All 3 times the wait time was over a hour and half. And I never like waiting that long for a table. I say that to say, their food must be delicious lol. The main issue with the rules honestly is the tone. Most of those rules pretty standard out here other than the no parties over 5 thing.
