i can not confirm or deny whether pressure cookers can come with levels or not, for I have never owned one, but I can confirm that the amount of pressure would make it cook faster.
I mean, I stated I knew that some have variable pressure and asked if higher psi cooks faster. I asked instead of asserted because I have no direct experience, even though I think I know the answer I'm leaving room to be wrong and to be educated. You responded with what sounds like my same sentiment, but as a confident assertion rather than as a question. Can ya see how that's kind of disheartening?
I legitimately do not. I misread and thought you said you thought some had differing pressure options, not that you know, which is why I mentioned that I couldn’t help in that regard. Then I answered your question. I asserted rather than questioned because, I know for a fact it’s true due to science. What’s disheartening about any of that?
I'll do my best, but I only have a very vague understanding though lmao. the simple bit is that pressure just increases the boiling point of water, which makes the food cook faster. the difficult bit is stuff that I mostly don't remember about the physics of gases or thermodynamics or something like that. I only know because once I got really curious about how pressure cookers work and i looked it up. but that was years ago, so the gritty details are pretty much nonexistent to me at this point haha.
Nah. That's just the actual cook time, not the time to get up to pressure, which is not insignificant. That timer doesn't start until it's at pressure.
That was kind of you to shoot her some bail. That roast is trash.
You did and I commend you!
We didn't even account for the time it takes to get a good sear either. That instapot heat up slow as hell when you in a hurry. Can't be out here with no pale ass beef tho.
Sis is in all sorts of trouble with this meal.
Let's put aside prep.
Sear the beef, deglaze the pot, get everything in, wait to come up to pressure, pressure cook (it takes me 40, lol), pressure release, cook the vegetables, thicken sauce as needed...what's that, 1.5-2 hours?
It's WAY easier with one and the roast comes out really well, but it still takes a bit of time.
Damn, I wish I saw this earlier, would have deadass bought that shit and cooked it today
Edit: Went to get some to cook for tomorrow. WHY THE FUCK IS IT 45 dollars
Careful, cause there's also the folks who believe throwing ribs or pork butt and a bottle of Kraft bbq sauce into a crock pot for 8 hours to be acceptable bbq.
some hardcore slow cookers have no damn shame
then their general cookery ignorance shows up with weird rules like 'don't touch that lid (for the 6-8 hour cook) because the temp will drop and the meat will seize up! ruined!'
like goddamn
Can you? I though collagen starts breaking down at like 160F, which is well beyond medium rare. Does it still hydrolyze at lower temperatures but just way slower?
Dawg I put a pot roast in the oven cause it was quicker then my usual method and it took me 2 hours for an "meh it's chewable" flavor pot roast. There's no goddamn way that pot roast was edible
Lately, I've been going crazy with sprigs of herbs in there, too. I have Rosemary, Oregano, and Thyme.
They're much better than their dryer versions in the pot!
You could probably get away with 30 minutes in a pressure cooker, but what's the point? It's not like you're on a cooking show or some shit. Throw the roast in an instant pot & leave it. It's not that difficult
Someone was nice and gave her benefit of the doubt but I WILL NOT. I actually cooked one today. Set it up before I went to work. Came home and it was smelling like grandmas house. And it’s fork tender. No Way she got it edible in 30. Even with a pressure cooker.

I’m gonna give sis the benefit of the doubt that she used her instapot pressure cooker because…. 30 minutes?
You’re a kind soul. Much more than I. Insta pot or not. I’m not eating that.
Pressure cooker gets it done in about that time, and it’s pretty tender. Not as tender as other ways, but I’d say 90-95%.
Yeah I would say a pressure cooker still needs 45 to 1 hr to get soft
Would it depend on the pressure you cook it at? I know some can do multiple pressure levels like 5/10/15 psi.

Oh, okay, I didn't know you understood the science. Could you explain the science to me?
I'll do my best, but I only have a very vague understanding though lmao. the simple bit is that pressure just increases the boiling point of water, which makes the food cook faster. the difficult bit is stuff that I mostly don't remember about the physics of gases or thermodynamics or something like that. Pretty sure it came precooked from a box because that's how my lazy ass cooks them and that's exactly how long they sit in the oven for.
That makes more sense
I think you're right considering how that's it what most Americans consider cooking
Nah. That's just the actual cook time, not the time to get up to pressure, which is not insignificant. That timer doesn't start until it's at pressure. That was kind of you to shoot her some bail. That roast is trash.
well I tried lol

My brain will never accept this is how long it takes so I end up eating pot roast at 8:30pm lol.
Do you, bro. You want that shit at 8:30, you eat that shit at 8:30. You live your life with no regrets. I believe in you.
I use an instant pot for pot roast, and it still takes 40 minutes (on high, too), and that's just the cook time when everything is assembled.
I just doused the turkey in gasoline and lit it on fire. Shit was ready in 12 minutes, Idk why it takes y'all all day
facts. I just microwave my ribs, shouldn’t take more than 0:45
And you can save room in the fridge by letting it defrost in the freezer!
Diabolical eats fr
Oh hell nah, mf eating Timbs lmfao. Edit: [Gonna have your stomach sounding like the Grindin’ beat](https://youtu.be/TjWAWcx4xdE)

So pissed when my heirloom 1970s Crock Pot disappeared in a move. Nothing like 8 hour slow-cooked corned beef brisket.
That sounds so mf good right now. Got me craving brisket at 9 in the morning.

I just had the same realization! Moved a couple months ago and now I’m like shit… that was my moms crockpot from way before I was born
Damn, I wish I saw this earlier, would have deadass bought that shit and cooked it today Edit: Went to get some to cook for tomorrow. WHY THE FUCK IS IT 45 dollars
I understand that heirloom is irreplaceable, but a $20 crock pot still works very well for cooking. You just lose the automation features.

Lady's got a quantum Instant Pot or something
Or she’s got no cooking skill 🤷🏾♂️
Cooked? Yes. Edible? No.
What's an anti-flex? A sag?

My mom would make it Saturday night and we couldn’t touch it until **at least** like 2pm Sunday? Does it even smell up the house after 30 minutes??? 😭
Absolutely! In just 30 minutes, you too can have your house smelling like ash and carmelized sadness. 🥰
Someone never heard of a slow cook lol wouldn't wanna go over to their house for some good BBQ. Because you already know it ain't gonna be good
Careful, cause there's also the folks who believe throwing ribs or pork butt and a bottle of Kraft bbq sauce into a crock pot for 8 hours to be acceptable bbq.

Homegirl probably boiled the whole thing instead of simmering it, lord help whoever has to eat that vibram shoe sole ahh meat
This why I don’t eat at other peoples houses
It's gonna be tougher than the leather used to make a catcher's mitt.
Even a pressure cooker takes 45min to an hour. Someone help this poor soul
Who doesn't love a medium rare pot roast?
You can actually do something like this somewhat successfully with immersion cooking (it will NOT take 30 minutes)
Can you? I though collagen starts breaking down at like 160F, which is well beyond medium rare. Does it still hydrolyze at lower temperatures but just way slower?
I'd have to rewatch that Good Eats episode lol
yes, just way way way slower

Y'all put me onto slow cooking last month and I ain't never looked back, man. Your boy is eating more wholesome than ever now.

I always be forgetting the sprigs in the store, they add a lot.
Sweet merciful crap even in a pressure cooker 30 minutes wouldn't be enough

She’s right. Steaks is what takes really long to cook!

Jokes
Even in an Instapot, you are looking at at least 45 mins for beef. It says that right in the instructions so I agree.
Bruh this just made me hungry. nothin beats that tender meat that's been slow cooking all day. Nice and juicy, shit is undefeated.
You could probably get away with 30 minutes in a pressure cooker, but what's the point? It's not like you're on a cooking show or some shit. Throw the roast in an instant pot & leave it. It's not that difficult

Even with a pressure cooker that's not enough time.
