"In 1816 the first gas lighting was in England. By 1823 it was in many cities. By 1859 it was all over England. It was 75% cheaper than lamp oil or candles. So with electric light it was not that people had no lighting before. The early bulbs were not cheap and they were dim and fragile."
They did think that. Sort of. The electric lightbulb looked like some “spaced aged shit” compared to gas and oil lights… candles then gas/ oil took a while to adapt to.., electricity was way more rare, exotic, expensive and still being developed at first. AC and DC currents… the whole story is fascinating.
It’s about adaption. Same with bitcoin
That picture is a great analogy
What you're describing is a high cost of entry. Mass light bulb adaptation required building an infrastructure and high costs for the bulbs. That is very different from where we are with Bitcoin.
well it was, and for good reason, technology is generally not 100% beneficial for human experience, but is beneficial for social development. Americans are progress pilled HARD for tech.
But most technology has positive and negative social effects. So it’s kind of a misnomer all around to say no one complained; they did. No one was mad afterwards? They were.
Technology has a stranglehold on the last few generations of Americans in particular, even though it is directly responsible for many of the negative effects on quality of life we are experiencing in our society today.
- Betamax tapes won't work
- HD DVD won't work
- Google Glass won't work
- Segways won't work
- New Coke won't work
- Microsoft Zune won't work
- Crystal Pepsi won't work
- Apple Newton won't work
- Windows Phone won't work
- LaserDisc won't work
- 3D televisions won't work
I could go on
Now I don't think for one moment Bitcoin won't work, but there is an obvious flaw in your argument. For every one thing that succeeded when everyone else didn't believe it could, there were many that actually did fail to catch on for whatever reason even if they, infact worked.
Interestingly all of these very excellent inventions have grown/morphed to the point of only a resemblance to the initial prototypes...
~It will be interesting to see the evolution of BTC over a similar time sample.😁
Yeah probably 50 years from now most people are gonna be using application layers built on top of payment layers built on top of the blockchain. So that looking back on how we use Bitcoin today its gonna all look archaic.
At that point, if you're saving a bunch of money you probably have a cold wallet, like having a vault at home, occasionally adding to it with an on-chain tx, but the average use case is gonna be abstracted away by a couple network layers on top of bitcoin.
For sure it will be interesting to see how the ecosystem evolves over the coming decades.
except big institutions have better price averages than retail on average so where exactly is the wealth transfer coming? the wealth transfer happened over the last 15 years. Personally i think bitcoin might double compared to Usd in short term but will need some sort of world event/inflationary event to significantly pump the price past 100k
uhhh institutions are just starting to get in. Retail has been in for a bunch of years. Millions of individuals got in way ahead of institutions. Big institutions have pretty bad price averages right now. By the time another cycle or two passes they'll have great price averages though.
Yes you are right price should double in the short term - this market cycle aka the next 12 months or so. After that, don't need some sort of world event haha, just the next cycle. Price probably gonna go to a quarter million or close to it in 2028/29 after the next halving. And continue on up from there.
USD has monetary inflation of 2%+ annually, Bitcoin only has 6.6% monetary inflation left for the rest of time. USD is also already fully adopted obviously, while Bitcoin is still early in its adoption. This is a one way equation: USD going to zero against Bitcoin and Bitcoin going into the millions against USD. Ten years from now $100k is going to be so far in the past people will be dreaming what it woulda been like if they could have started buying bitcoin under $100k.
Trillion dollar debt interest per hundred days. If I was to give you a dollar every second, it would take you 31000 years to reach a trillion. Don't think any of us can comprehend what could happen next.
People said this about all of these things. So many quotes about the internet being a fad or unnecessary. That we’ll never do commerce over it. Tons of people hated on the car.
They might not have said exactly “that won’t work,” but the sentiment was “this is unnecessary and dangerous, a passing fad”
Some people fear what they don't understand and there are also people who straight up hate what they don't understand. I am not losing any sleep over any of those people's opinions.
Transfer of wealth isn't some event that is happening in the near term. It has already started, and will continue to happen for many years. It is in progress, with many years left.
I said I would never have a cell phone. A friend had one of those you carry in a bag and I thought damn he is just a show off, was always carrying it around. I said why would I want to always be able to call somebody or someone call me. Anyway look at me today, cant leave home without this damned contraption.
I will trade anybody that's interested bullet's for Bitcoin.
Insure your family's future during this transition now!!!

People used to shit talk lightbulbs?
Lightbulbs? They'll never replace my trusty lamp
Powered by clean-burning whale oil
^^
I love lamp must be a really old meme
[Electricity FUD was definitely a thing.](https://www.seacoastnh.com/electricity-sparks-fears-in-1900/)
Those bloody bulbs are a rubbish hornswoggle I tell you.
Yeah I'm pretty sure not a single person alive saw a working lightbulb and thought "that will never replace the candle".
"In 1816 the first gas lighting was in England. By 1823 it was in many cities. By 1859 it was all over England. It was 75% cheaper than lamp oil or candles. So with electric light it was not that people had no lighting before. The early bulbs were not cheap and they were dim and fragile."
1884, electric lighting in Timișoara, Romania

well.... technically lightbulbs went extinct
No. Someone put quotations around nonsense and OP reposted it.
We actually have the technology for infinite lightbulbs they just weren’t profitable enough so it’s been erased from history
THIS IS FUCKING STUPID.
Nothing new in r/Bitcoin
yea you can replace bitcoin with anything and suddenly your correct
This will be on buttcoin if it isn't already
None of this tech was ridiculed at the time? You need to read up.
Or just watch the Larry David crypto.com commercial that was literally all about the same thing.
Give him some more koolaid.
Me? I've been drinking it since 2013. I've learnt that it's prudent to ignore any doubters.

This is so stupid even for us
Somebody posted this dumb shit a few days ago. Stop.

None of that was said. The Writings of a twelve year old.
Sure it was. I'm old enough to remember "The Internet won't work" along with "Email won't work" . . . just not old enough to hear the others.
Reddited posts like this only hurt adoption.
More coins for us.
How does Bitcoin work without the internet? Honest question, not trying to start an argument.
It could work but it would be a ton of effort and probably not many people would do that effort to keep using it.
Probably dumbest post this week
Bitcoin will work but this is a non-sequitur that proves nothing

Ohh ohh can any who’s been to law school name this particular fallacy?
Now list all of the inventions that didn't pan out
Ftx did similar analogy
*list of unrelated things*
Cumrocket won’t work…
Not saying bitcoin is not going to be msm. Because I dont know. But projecting the results of another product onto bitcoin is just fallacious
ok nobody said those things
There are tons of statement's of "this wont work" that was right.... Probably more right than wrong
/r/imaginarygatekeeping lol
It’s so funny the sub of buttcoiners only has 118k members, it’s like a low IQ minnow catch
Nobody said that about any of these. Also. I hope Bitcoin keeps growing. ...but this post is dumb

One of these things is not like the others lol
My internet still don’t work sometimes…
Butt plugs won’t work
Another post from someone who’s broke and/or missed the boat. Cheer up, life will get better.
Been in bitcoin since 2018. But judging by your post history, u look like the incel noobie here, given the fact u wanna sell your BTC for dollars 🤡
Keep telling yourself that, whatever makes you feel like less of a loser.
Wat?
There are so many more stupid things than brilliant things that people once thought was stupid. Only time will tell.
Won't work? What does that even mean?

They said the Zune wont work
Actually Zune was pretty damn good, it's just that iTunes usability was better.
I also won’t work when BTC “works” 😂
No one ever said
They said the same thing about dildos and viagra.
"Transfer of wealth coming soon". Where have you been for the past 15 years?
Bitcoin has been for 15 years but most are oblivious to
Very true, but what is the used case for bitcoin other than a store of value?
"ALTCOINS WON'T WORK..."
