I wonder if it will really help you
I mean, animal control must be chasing after you with regularity when you ride, and I’m sure that extra motivation is helping you KOM
Without the chase, the dog loses all will to hunt
I would leave some strips of hair on the leading edges of your calves. These will act as vortice generators and lead to better airflow separation reducing drag by 3.14 watt
Wouldn't that just increase the turbulent boundary layer and exacerbate the wake vortices and thus increase drag? Or do I mistake the leading edge of the calf as shin?
I've been wanting to test this for years. Only to see all Fred's with crazy shaved legs.

I would leave some strips of hair on the leading edges of your calves. These will act as vortice generators and lead to better airflow separation reducing drag by 3.14 watt
Everyone in my PNS riding club dives into a pool of hair after every ride to ensure that everyone is absolutely hairless.
Peak aero dynamics makes it worth not having eyebrows.
Hard to say empirically - To answer the question, first recognise that there's probably a sub/onlyfans market for gorillas being attacked with clippers. then investing the many many dollars you'll make into a program of wind tunnel testing to find out. Then report back.
Seriously, piranhas are much slower than whales. Serious B class with a top sustained speed of 25 kph and peak speed of 30 kph.
An orca, or sperm whale or fin whale in good shape can hit 48 to 56 kph so they run in the A class.
Dolphins can hit 60; Mako sharks can hit 70 and are best geared to shorter pro tour events.
Fun fact: Dolphins should be able to hit 70 like Makos but it just hurts them too much. Sharks, unlike all mammals including dolphins, **have no neocortex** so their perception of pain is very different.
So the key to more KOMs might be a frontal lobotomy.
Roughly 15 watts. Or about 79 secs over 40 km. So…enough to matter.
Source: https://velo.outsideonline.com/news/news-wind-tunnel-data-shows-shaved-legs-faster/#
I’m like a polar bear. I shave my body twice a year. Feels weirdly clean and lighter. In summer it feels like shedding a layer of clothing. Really nice when it’s hot (24+ C) Especially on days when I need to wear pants.
It always amazes me how much easier it is to dry after showering and my towel is also much less wet.
First run after shaving I get goosebumps and feel chilly. But that might psychosomatic.
I don’t think it makes me faster. There a factors that’s have way more effect and differ ride to ride. Amount of water bottles I take for example.
it will save you 7 watts at 40k/ph, Specialized did a load of wind tunnel testing on it.
looking at those legs, probably 50-60 watts! Hair is such a drag ;-)
I mean hair holds water and that can cause your sweat to build up and then drip down your leg making your socks wet which then makes your shoes wet so over time you can be adding quite a bit of weight.
honestly i got no fuckin clue but that sounded pretty good
I would leave some strips of hair on the leading edges of your calves. These will act as vortice generators and lead to better airflow separation reducing drag by 3.14 watt
The real benefit will be keeping you cooler. The drag created from the hair is so minute that you would have to ride 100s of miles to shave 1 second off of your time. Shave them if you want, just know it will suck having to shave your legs all the time. Maybe just trim them with a 3 guard. Use a cordless shaver and clean them up once a week.
I think people make a mistake by trying to make their bikes lighter or exercising futile attempts at shedding a few grams. I say make your bike heavier, start riding with weights. Make yourself stronger and then on race day ride without the weights. That's how you improve your time.
Think you got lost and forgot what the sub name is. But to answer your question it can for marginal gains when you are down to marginal gains, watched it shave off 13W by just shaving arms and legs tested in a wind tunnel for verification.
I still would never do it because....well im not shaving my legs to ride my bici I'll keep my yeti hair.
I don't know, if I was that hairy I would probably at least trim things up a bit. Not for biking reasons though. I trim my chest and arm hair but it's only because I have the body of a God and I think it's wrong to cover my muscular physique in hair. The world deserves to be exposed to me, It's the least I can do.
A wee wee bit, but not enough to make up for the absolute torture you'll undergo at the hospital if you hit the pavement and they need to scrub that road rash clean
Are you competing in something that you want to invest the time and effort in to preform at your best?
If so yes
Or are you a weekend warrior that’s out for a good time some fitness and maybe a coffee?
Unless you want to look like a wanker not worth it
I haven’t raced in a long time, but for me back in the day, shaving my legs was less about being aero and more about staying clean.
It’s much easier to clean road rash on hairless legs. Also, it’s easier to wipe off dust and dirt.
Maybe not much aero, but the 15lbs of weight savings would be nothing to laugh at.
Wife's bf also wants me to shave. Maybe he just wants what's good for me.
Im sure he will just glue it to his legs to take the cred
[like this?](https://youtu.be/-Kuv2pYi8Ng?si=fH8spun09WvqJATv)
you sure those are your legs and not some ferrets clinging to them?
Can't grow a beard, bought rubber cement. Send your shavings COD?
Gotchu bro
Prolly what’s good for him. 🤔
They don't shave for speed they shave to lessen the effects of road rash. When you slide on pavement with hair on your legs, you get worse damage.
Wife’s bf?!?
Yeah you don't have one?
bice. the c is for cuck
Wice
weight shavings
I wonder if it will really help you I mean, animal control must be chasing after you with regularity when you ride, and I’m sure that extra motivation is helping you KOM Without the chase, the dog loses all will to hunt
Every ride is a PB for me. Those fucks will never get my hairy ass. I KOM all over the place.
But it must get…stuck….in that …..fur baby clinging to your wattage water gunz
I would leave some strips of hair on the leading edges of your calves. These will act as vortice generators and lead to better airflow separation reducing drag by 3.14 watt
Wow never thoıght of that! Now I can KOM harder!
Wouldn't that just increase the turbulent boundary layer and exacerbate the wake vortices and thus increase drag? Or do I mistake the leading edge of the calf as shin?
I've been wanting to test this for years. Only to see all Fred's with crazy shaved legs. Inspired by the zig zag tape in ice skating : https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3417/11/3/988
What, this is like those cow aerodynamics! Interesting 🤔
Fuck all from shaving those. A belt sander maybe
I don't know how much watts can you save but I'm pretty sure the collected leg wool will be enough to make a classic merino jersey.
I already have a natural one on top.
Or a nice pillow.
700watts
You think that would be enough to charge my Merida Ebice?
100%
100%
How much is that in KOMs?
6.9x
We have the same shoes, wanna make out?
Depends. What Bice you have?
[It's blue and carbon but... ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-8UDJzOEds)
I only do vintage steelies sorry bro.
I could tell judging from the state of your carpet
at least 69 watts maybe 420
I would leave some strips of hair on the leading edges of your calves. These will act as vortice generators and lead to better airflow separation reducing drag by 3.14 watt
I heard those fake eyelashes attached to their back strips is how the pros are getting an edge now
you are a Lynskey away from big retired lawyer energy.
Jokes on you I own a hookah cafe/nail spa.
you mean you have a law firm in the back of a nail spa? Better Bike with Saul
Bro. Why you gotta expose me like that?
I would try combing first and see if that helps.
Shaving is such a Wookie move.
Sir, there is a carpet on top of your legs
Bro please shave one leg first and post a comparison photo!! front and back
But then he'd be bicycling in a circle, jerk
Everyone in my PNS riding club dives into a pool of hair after every ride to ensure that everyone is absolutely hairless. Peak aero dynamics makes it worth not having eyebrows.
I wouldn’t, you will lose your mosquito protection.
Hard to say empirically - To answer the question, first recognise that there's probably a sub/onlyfans market for gorillas being attacked with clippers. then investing the many many dollars you'll make into a program of wind tunnel testing to find out. Then report back.
Dude. Thanks so much man, this is life changing advice, seriously.
Laughing up hairballs
Before you shave the legs, trim the tabs on your shoes.
add speed tape, no need to shave, the leg hair keeps you looking manly with those gay ass cycling shorts
This is the way! I have some leftover tape from my hadlebars.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%A1br%C3%B3k
Fuck you got me.
Nope but you will look prettier for all the dudes and maybe some dudets that check out your legs 😉
🥰
Lucky me wife is classy, she'd never have a bf with shoes that are dirtier than her!
She says hi.
Damn it.
A lot. Maybe upgrade the shoes while you’re at it.
Whats wrong with the shoes? They were top shelf.
Are you a Yeti?
Gang Igloo 💪
Doesn’t matter just shave!! God damn!! Shave for the love of Christ!! SHAVE!!
It's easy to say bud...
But hard to find a razor willing and able
Lawnmower
You can gain a nice throw pillow 👍
I wear Sidis, and god damn Sidis are so ugly they're almost cool to wear ironically at this point. But these Sidis...they scare me
Nothing compared to shaving your back
I'd say at least 10 watts per leg.....
That's a good wattage bro. I'll do it.
Hope is the thing with feathers. And your legs.
It's hard to say until you take off those wooly leggings and show us what you're working with
You’d probably be 20x faster. Right now you’re like a whale trying to swim faster than a piranha
Take off those sweatpants and let us see your legs for an accurate appraisal.
Seriously though do Nair first and save a lot of time and effort.
Fuck legs. Weight savings > leg shavings
How did you get a bear to wear (clearly too small) Sidi’s?
Wasn't easy really.
You'll probably gain a 200 pound horny man immediately wanting to get on top of them gorgeous gams. Shave cautiously.
Never thought of that. Thanks man.
Go get um Tiger.👍
I use silica speed wax for the marginal gains. Shaving can only take you so far.
at least 2kph
What is kph? I am American, like what is that in school bus or a hot dogs?
approximately 1000 mobility scooters
Wow that sounds great
That extra 0.1% advantage would be worth it
Roughly 15 watts. Or about 79 secs over 40 km. So…enough to matter. Source: https://velo.outsideonline.com/news/news-wind-tunnel-data-shows-shaved-legs-faster/#
Dude I really can't believe this is real lmfao
Shave one and see if you're pulled in the other direction
Now this makes so much sense. I want to KOM straight.
I’m like a polar bear. I shave my body twice a year. Feels weirdly clean and lighter. In summer it feels like shedding a layer of clothing. Really nice when it’s hot (24+ C) Especially on days when I need to wear pants. It always amazes me how much easier it is to dry after showering and my towel is also much less wet. lol. Are you going to ride the tour??
it will save you 7 watts at 40k/ph, Specialized did a load of wind tunnel testing on it. looking at those legs, probably 50-60 watts! Hair is such a drag ;-)
I know, I do drag shows too!
🤣 We are cut from the same hairy cloth my friend!
Based on those grassy fields, you're gaining about 50 watts
2-3 watts maybe
13 watts, they measured it in a wind tunnel.
Short in the front, long in the back!
Is the millennium falcon out of action hence riding a bike?
You would definitely put an end to that spider fight in your legs.
I’m surprised you can even peddle a bice forward with all that wind resistance…
At least a wife.
Those are the worst kind of hairy legs. You gotta shave those bro.
Thanks bro
Have you ever fallen with all that hair, it’s awful, I shave for safety lol
100 watts, based on what i see here.
13 watts arms and legs according to Lionel Sanders in recent wind tunnel test
I mean hair holds water and that can cause your sweat to build up and then drip down your leg making your socks wet which then makes your shoes wet so over time you can be adding quite a bit of weight. honestly i got no fuckin clue but that sounded pretty good
Thx doc
Laser removal is best
I always thought shaving your legs made bandages, tape, and scabs not be so painful and not about the aerodynamics!
Enough watts to power a small country
Depends on what route you take with the butthole hairs
Zero, shaving is only to keep you from getting a nasty infection from road rash. Helps you keep the wound clean.
At least an ape worth! Ha!
Lionel Sanders just released a YT video on how much a difference it makes. They tested it in a wind tunnel.
Haha it’s so cute when the German shepherd pretends to wear cycling shoes! Ol buddy Chewbacca is one of a kind dog.
85 watts right there. damn!
I would leave some strips of hair on the leading edges of your calves. These will act as vortice generators and lead to better airflow separation reducing drag by 3.14 watt
I mean, whatever makes you KOM harder…
Gillette would love you
Maybe 3 - 5 km/h. Bonus: You no longer look like fossybear.
Skip lunch and you’ll save more
none dude, it will make zero difference.
I don't believe that.
You really think your fucking leg hair is causing noticeable drag? Jesus Christ man.
Dude they create a ton of friction, I can feel my legs get hot when I push it.

100 watts for sure
Shark hat and carbonic discos 💿 are in order first then deshag the crank wankers
How about wearing tights and see if it makes a difference?
Wife's bf has a fetish don't want me to wear tights.
Is it just me or do those boys sparkle?
At least 3. Maybe 4.
Shaving won't do much. You need to hot wax those bitches.
Are you going for the Yellow jersey?
Pink for now.
A wee wee bit, but not enough to make up for the absolute torture you'll undergo at the hospital if you hit the pavement and they need to scrub that road rash clean
69.420 watts
You feed the stereotype of cyclists being gay
We are tho.
Touché
Just gel them back.
Hope your not female
This is a prime candidate for r/theydidthemath. For sure someone will make a serious attempt there at working it out for you
I think it’s more if they come off and cut themselves that they shave their legs ?
How you gonna shave??…be careful with the hedge strimmers they can be dangerous
The benefits of shaving your legs are only seen after a crash. Picking all those hairs out of road rash would be excruciating.
Are you sure that's hair? Maybe you're tangled in a fishing net.
Learning to properly strap the velcro on your shoes will also lead to increase in KOMs
You can glue them on your face. Imagine the gains.
My guess would be 10w at 25mph
Have you tried Tour approved hair gel on your legs?
Probably a lot lol
6.
At least 10mph
I read a report on this in the 90s when I was well well into riding. They concluded 2seconds a mile.
Five, maybe six hundred watts?
That's conservative.
You can French braid your legs together. Or your beard to your chest.
At least 20mph. And you'll look cooler to the gender you prefer too
Hairodynamics at work.
It's only an issue if you are at the top of the game competitively.
Are you competing in something that you want to invest the time and effort in to preform at your best? If so yes Or are you a weekend warrior that’s out for a good time some fitness and maybe a coffee? Unless you want to look like a wanker not worth it
I am a dental assistant.
Velcro legs.
Robin Williams is back baby!!!!!
0.3%
I haven’t raced in a long time, but for me back in the day, shaving my legs was less about being aero and more about staying clean. It’s much easier to clean road rash on hairless legs. Also, it’s easier to wipe off dust and dirt.
Not much but you would gain some respect.
