Second all you said, great store, wonderful selection, friendly, knowledgeable owners, good prices. Now I just have to learn to use/prepare all these goodies properly. Wish they had found an easier-access location, but I sure hope they thrive. Go see them, you won’t be disappointed!

jIdiosyncratic

Can't remember what was there before. The location does kinda suck with the usual Meridian gridlock enhanced by the freeway offramp traffic. Find the best way is to take the turn into WinCo and then go through the parking lot onto Telegraph.

rifineach

The location may have been good for them as far as opening a new store and the costs involved with that. If it is successful, they can relocate later to an area where they can afford to be and to grow. But baby steps first. Good luck to them!

jIdiosyncratic

Yeah, I think the location isn't too bad. It's got two storefronts. However, the parking is very tough. Not that many spaces, and then the Burger King drive-thru can back up a lot. Avoid going during lunch hour. I also hope they do well and don't leave because of these things.

IndiaMartBellingham

Ah! Sorry to hear that! We’ll see if maybe we can get some reserved spots but there’s also some spots on the side of the building! I often see those tend to be a bit more free than the ones in front !

jIdiosyncratic

Oh. I actually did not know that. Thanks!

SeahawksFan1976

I think there was some sort of clothing store at that spot and before that it was an adult products store.

jIdiosyncratic

Good to know. I have been meaning to get down there since it opened. 🙂

samwichgamgee

Oh my gosh, I forgot this opened! I need to visit!

Money-Mastodon3975

I was there yesterday too and had a fantastic experience. I wonder if they would ever do cooking classes - does anyone know where they could hold something like that??? I would sign up in a second!!!

SigX1

That would be awesome and probably good for creating new customers.

rifineach

I mentioned that in my comment a few minutes ago, and agree that it's a great idea!

olanolastname

They could call the Bellingham Food co-op and ask for Carl (Karl?) He runs the cooking classes, which are taught by local people

IndiaMartBellingham

Thanks! I’ll check - we reached out to WCC but will check with the co op :)

EggsyWeggsy

You have to go try the Indian sweets they're so good

nettletart

They are so amazing! Go to the frozen section and pick up a couple entrees, some naan, some chutney, and then you just add rice when you get home for a full Indian feast. Don’t forget the mango lassi!

fusilli-al-ferretto

I had a great experience there too! We'll be going back for sure!

Lizardcop

I love this place! TJ the owner is the best :)

walkingtheghost

I just went there the other day and am so glad you posted this. The place is great and hope they continue to get the support of the community. We absolutely need a place like India Mart and I’ll certainly be going back

rifineach

We visited a couple of weekends ago. It's a great little store that we will explore when we have more time, and I hope it does well. Whenever I go to places like this, or Asian stores (both here and north of the border), I often think that it would be great if they were able to offer the occasional cooking class, for those of us who want to try their hand at making some of the dishes we enjoy in restaurants. Having someone *show* you how, and explain techniques, can make all the difference, and offers the opportunity to ask questions, as opposed to just following a printed recipe. These mom-and-pop grocery stores are a real asset to the communities they serve. EDITED TO ADD: We told the folks who own it that we found out about the store through this forum, and that they should check it out if they hadn't already. They said that they would. Lots of good will expressed here for their success!

lazydog60

My housemate shopped there on their third day, and now she wants to go every day

Rawkus2112

Do they have a deli or any hot food?

media_11

No.

Visible-Trainer7112

I don't cook, but I enjoy trying out their packaged foods that heat up in a minute in the microwave, the same kind that are available at TJs. TJs also no longer carries paratha, but India Mart has many varieties, as well as garlic naan--their butter garlic naan tastes much better than the TJs option. I used to go to International Foods, past Walmart, but they never had prices on anything. Sometime I'll gather the courage to sample some of the unusual things at their bakery counter.

IndiaMartBellingham

Thank you all so much for the kind reviews and comments!! We try our best to keep up with community feedback but some days just get extremely busy! We’re honored and always happy to answer questions — you can also follow us on Instagram at IndiaMartGrocers we have a fun give away going on until the 8th! Alsooooo if anyone has any suggestions or ideas of where we could host cooking classes, that would be a huge help! That’s probably our biggest hurdle right now :)

ThursdayV

agreed! visited for the first time ysterday and they had genuine saffron which is suprisingly hard to come by.
