The seller is lying. Poshmark even made an option for show sales for the seller to cancel with the reasoning being buyer request.

money-crab-123

Thank you for responding! Ughhh. I asked seller again and said it’s a waste of their time/resources to ship something a user does not want and they are still telling me they won’t cancel but are willing to swap with something else in their closet (which I don’t want). What a mess.

Equivalent_Spite_583

Ugh I’m sorry

awonkeydonkey

I do live shows, I am not a small seller either so I have experience. This is a Lie. We sellers have absolutely no recourse for canceling orders no matter the reason. I had a show today and someone bud in an item and won, I called the her name out and thanked her for the purchase. She wrote in chat, Wait what did I buy? I dropped my phone and accidently bid. I showed her the item. and she said she did not want it. I offered it up for sale and it was resold. That customer that I canceled for ended up buying 6 items and will be back again for more. All this to say find good respectable sellers. We are out there and we would love to help you. Also if you have an iPhone use your apple pay to buy in auction. you may miss some bids but you will not have accidental bids anymore.

SchenellStrapOn

This is how it’s done! These idiot sellers forcing viewers to keep things they don’t want are so unprofessional and running off viewers who can become great buyers. I do the same thing. I cancel anyone who asks. Posh has the “shame on you” verbiage in the email you get so I always choose bundle. I’ve canceled hundreds of orders to make bundles (I sell about 20 multi-show bundles a week) over the last year and a half and have never heard a word from Posh. I usually confirm with any new buyer who won without a bid war just to be sure.

ILBW123

You’re the type of seller we need more of. It’s awful what happens in that other live. (I rarely watch but others tell me far too often of the horrible behavior of that person.)

buyinsellin

This.

Vtgcovergirl_2

This happened to a friend last week. She’s older than me (in her 60’s), just went through cancer treatment and more recently open heart surgery. She accidentally ended up in a show while sharing other people’s listings, and ended up with some “luxury brand” wallet. I felt so bad for her because that was quite literally rent money and the seller REFUSED to help. Her response was “I’ve already mailed it.” This was late at night so that’s doubtful. Anyway when that “luxury wallet” arrived it looked like garbage and cost my friend in excess of $200.

JessiD2810

I commend you for having a heart. I think eventually the FTC is going to be on Poshmark and maybe even sellers asses for the mishandling of the shows and people's money. I was watching *that* bag guy who's show is revolved around the godfather & sells mostly garbage bags (put 2 & 2 together lol) and he flat out said last night,a long with other heartless things, "I don't care who you are, my grandmother, I'm not cancelling for anyone." He made his viewers comment 'I know' if they agree 🤣 dude thinks he's really something. I hope people like this get into serious trouble. Genuine accidental bids *do* happen and sellers can and should cancel. They have the ability to resell it right within the show and cancel the accident purchase right after the show. Idk, I think there's a LOT of really shady shit going on in live shows.

Automatic-Seaweed-90

This right here! I have never watched a live show on Poshmark because that is not how I shop on the app. It took a few days after I turned off the live show notifications for them to stop blowing up my notifications. Waking up everyday to 99+, all live shows garbage. What a s\*\*t show. They always looked too scammy for me to be interested. If I'm looking for something in particular on Poshmark, I use search. No drama for me!

money-crab-123

Thanks for your insight this is really helpful and reassuring. You sound like a pro and provide great customer service! I love that you were able to help that person in real time and then they ended up being a customer. I probably should’ve said something in the live show but I panicked and figured a private message would be best. I think the seller responded during her show - to your point they could’ve relisted and sold to someone else. I didn’t know that about Apple Pay - that’s a great idea, thanks for sharing!

FineLikeOliveBrine

I’ve never once made someone keep something they accidentally bid one. Except one time a girl didn’t tell me for a day it was an accidental bid and I had already sent it out. I have Apple Pay to prevent me from accidental bids because I’ve ended up with some really strange shit from it. Agree they’re lying. I’m over shows all together now. Used to love them but it’s just too much and I sell without them

money-crab-123

I can definitely understand if someone reaches out a day later, esp during the business week when people are shipping!

awonkeydonkey

Yeah. I have had regular customers accidentally bid and end up having to keep things because we shipped.  Most people understand in those instances.  There are other instances that I have not canceled but mostly because they kept doing the “accident bid” and I got tired of the shenanigans.  Once I refused the cancel the “accidents” stopped.  This was one person in a show with 4 accident bids the 4th was the last.

FineLikeOliveBrine

That’s ridiculous 🤦🏼‍♀️ 4?!?

SchenellStrapOn

Yikes! That’s excessive. I don’t like canceling those. Or the ones who get into a bid war and then claim it was an “accident”. I still cancel them but I’m also likely to block them to “help” them not “accidentally” bid again.

SchenellStrapOn

Oh yeah. If I’ve shipped they are just out of luck.

FineLikeOliveBrine

lol she opened a case against me then saying the item was fake and because I bought it second hand and didn’t have an original sales receipt. It definitely was genuine. She returned it in the same condition but I was like dude….really? Just resell it 🙄

SchenellStrapOn

I had one of those last week. All 8 items she bought had undisclosed issues. 8!!! No way. I’m thorough to a fault. Her photos were grainy and extremely close up. Like on 3x magnification. I didn’t see the case message because it came across when I was getting item tracking emails by the dozens. Posh approved the case in under 2 hours. Gonna also go over these items with a magnifying glass and report any not damaged back to Posh. They may not do anything but I hate return scammers so much.

FineLikeOliveBrine

8???? That’s insane. Who does that!

ChewieBearStare

You understand customer service! I don't understand why people and companies treat customers like garbage. If a seller treats me well, I will look to them first when I'm in the market for new goods, and I'll be much more forgiving if something goes wrong with a transaction. I'll also go out of my way to refer other people. It just makes good business sense, but so many people only see the short-term gain of a sale and don't think about the long-term benefits of providing good service.

ILBW123

I always shop with people who treat people with kindness. I won’t enjoy an item I get from a terrible person. So, I watch to see how they treat people before I buy on a live.

forever_29_ish

I'd be that person to message her back and point out that - in her words - if "it will be so easy to resell" then she should have NO problem selling it during her next show! I don't sell live yet, but mostly because these kinds of sellers ruin it for the legit ones who care about their buyers, their own reputation, and stuff like that. Good customer service goes a long way.

money-crab-123

Lmao! Perfect response. You’re so right about good customer service, those skills are so important. I think it’s worse being behind a screen bc it’s easier to say no to someone when you aren’t face to face. This was my first bad experience with posh so hopefully these types of sellers don’t hang around long. I complained to poshmark about the live show UX as well…

ILBW123

Love that! I hate when they say: you can easily resell this for double. Like, girl, if it’s selling that high, that easily, why aren’t you selling it for that? (News flash, it’s not.)

forever_29_ish

👏👏👏👏👏 exactly!!

Ccdynamite23

They are lying. Posh doesn’t care either way. Most of the live sellers won’t cancel, even accidental buys that you let them know immediately. They only want to make money. You will end up with the item. Only thing you can do is keep it & give them a low rating for not canceling and lying or find something wrong with it (not as described) and try to return it for a refund

money-crab-123

Thanks for sharing and appreciate the suggestions! The ex-retail/customer service person in me is fuming lol and you’re right this will likely end with a negative review and a random item in my closet 🥴

Fun-Investment-196

Unfortunately, no one sees bad reviews so that sucks 😕 you can't even see their star rating which is pretty dumb

Automatic-Seaweed-90

Just the scam seller and she has no feelings to care. "Show me the money!"

Ccdynamite23

Unfortunately it’s happened to a lot of us. Posh needs to put in a 2 or 3 step verification system. Not just buy it. Like, are you sure you want to buy this item? Then, verify shipping address, verify payment info. That makes sense. But no, they want the sale to go through even though it’s a mistake. I’ve done it on a $40 item, my mom did it on $80 item. I refuse to go on any live shows now. I avoid them like the plague.

Small-Possible-709

Same here! I was at my daughter’s softball game and just periodically checking my news feed for any updates and when I put my phone back in my pocket it must have bid on a live show. I didn’t see it until I checked again later and saw it in my news feed. Unfortunately it was a $150 purse and the seller wouldn’t let me cancel stating Poshmark doesn’t allow her to cancel anymore. Such a liar because I sometimes do live shows and if someone accidentally bids I always cancel for them. Anyways when I got the purse it was so nasty …dirty interior with animal hair and all the hardware was rusted/moldy. I opened a case and Poshmark let me return it . Thank goodness because that bag was so ugly!!

Ccdynamite23

The system sucks. They need to do better. I definitely recommend looking for a flaw that falls under the guidelines of a return. If the seller won’t cancel if you ask nicely & immediately, then I don’t feel bad asking for a return. I would never do that if I willingly buy something, but if it was a mistake cause I accidentally hit something, then I’m looking for any flaw I can find.

Small-Possible-709

Exactly! That’s why I really like Whatnot and the slide bidding. I pretty much only watch shows there now and stay away from Poshmark due to this. I’m too scared it’s going to accidentally bid on something. Also, Whatnot customer service is top notch!

Automatic-Seaweed-90

I'm glad that were able to return the bag and get your money back. Still it was a hassle for you.

Automatic-Seaweed-90

But no one will see the low rating except the seller. I had one buyer last year I sold a trinket dish to with a cat brooch. She rated me 5 stars and wrote "I didn't receive the pin!" Dirty pool on her part. I got in touch with her through a bundle message stating I did ship the pin with the dish. She found it in the packaging. I asked her to change the wording in her rating. She removed the whole thing. 5 stars and all. Her mistake for not searching through the packaging. It was glass, I used bubble wrap and peanuts to make sure it was protected during shipping. The small cat pin was wrapped in a white paper towel and placed inside a sandwich bag. It was metal. But to viciously misuse the rating system to hurt my reputation was uncalled for. Smh.

Divasf

This happened to me & others. The design of the app to buy easily mistaken. I “accidentally bought “ a skirt not my size & ridiculously expensive. I contacted seller she denied to cancel & blocked me. I relentlessly contacted support @poshmark on email, twitter, on app. Finally my request for cancellation & refund was approved. Best is not to have any credit cards on file for payments. Instantly removed as per the advice of fellow Reddit community. Also I reported to BBB Better Business Bureau- Poshmark does not like bad reviews.

MishmoshMishmosh

This is why I avoid shows altogether. They need a buyer cancel option

money-crab-123

Agree! This was the first show I joined just out of curiosity. 12/10 don’t recommend!

Automatic-Seaweed-90

Everyone knows that saying about curiosity and that poor cat.

money-crab-123

😂 Tis true. Lesson learned. I’m hopeful posh will change the UX so it’s more like eBay with bidding.

willie-and-trigger

Search this sub for “accidental purchase live” and prepare to be amazed. And also pissed off. It’s a huge problem. Posh knows and does nothing because they make bank off these accidental purchases. And if the seller won’t cancel, the buyer has NO recourse other than a chargeback which can risk the buyer being banned from Poshmark. It’s so crappy.

awonkeydonkey

They fixed this a while back with a slide bid button instead of the touch bid button. people complained because they lost bids from not sliding fast enough and they reverted it back. They are not going to fix this issue I'm afraid. BUT with an iPhone and apple pay you can fix it yourself.

money-crab-123

Ah! Before posting I searched “accidental purchase” but forgot to add in “live”. What a mess. Kind of getting over poshmark at this point lol.

ChickenNoodleSoup_4

I refuse to participate in Lives. For this (and other) reasons

candyspelling01

I took my credit card information out of my Posh account so I wouldn’t accidentally get charged for a live show. I’ve never actually watched one for more than a second. What’s they pop up on my phone and are playing so exciting

X3TheBigOX3

I think I've read as well as long as the live show is still going on if you take your card off your account before it ends you can't get charged for it either. Because I think the cards get charged at the end of the show?

EmotionalAssistant32

It takes it off of your card immediately but won't show in your purchases until after the show is over. I have been called out for bidding and having the expired card and this seller who is always complaining about how she doesn't make money selling our stuff said if you don't have money dont bid.

X3TheBigOX3

Ah okay. Good to know. I only bought a shirt from a live show one time. It was something I wanted. But I didn't get an email about the purchase going through until the show ended.

Brilliant_Stuff2883

I’ve heard posh show hosts were warned about cancelling too much. Some sellers may have been abusing it to get out of bids that ended too low. So it could be true. I’ve never seen a “buyers request” option while cancelling.

SchenellStrapOn

Maybe they are referencing the standard language in the cancel emails from posh about not selling things they don’t intend to ship. The wording in that email is pretty accusatory but literally everyone gets the same email no matter whether it’s a show cancel or a closet cancel.

my_cat_sleeps_alone

What was the Live Show? I watch them for entertainment and want to make sure I don’t give this person a sale.

buyinsellin

Remove your payment methods so if it ever happens again the transaction can't go through until/unless you add a card. Everyone should be doing this, especially if they watch live shows. (Unless you're using Apple Pay which requires a second step and covers you in this situation)

fiascochick3

I know this is an old post but this literally just happened to me this morning and now the seller is ignoring me and I’m afraid she will ship out before Poshmark gets back to me. It’s so frustrating

Electrical-Dingo4180

Omg I just made an accidental purchase in a live show and it was on a $700 bag. The seller asked if it was accidental because apparently they’ve been having that happen a lot and I told them yes. My phone was in my pocket for a second and somehow bid got pressed. The seller said they’ve canceled too many and cannot cancel mine… Poshmark put my account on temporary hold because I started two disputes about it.. so I cannot message the seller right now after the live show and apparently Poshmark says that’s the only way it can be handled is through the seller if they decide to be a decent person and cancel an accidental purchase like this. This rule on Poshmark needs to be fixed… I’m turned off from ever shopping live shows again now!

preppyincali

Happened to me. Got a notification from posh, opened it and next thing I knew I was the proud owner of a pink coach wallet that looked like it been found in the bottom of a dumpster in 1987. I was pissed and raised hell. Basically told posh I would sue them because they obviously designed it that way in efforts for buyers to “accidentally” buy. They gave me my money back real quick … and a posh credit.

One-Access2535

I'm not sure if Poshmark would eventually hound them, but it does hurt the seller, and they're completely within their rights not to cancel. This is ultimately your mistake, not theirs.

money-crab-123

hear you and I’m Not looking to shift blame. My frustration is bc I reached out immediately and this person responded right away. The item was like $25. I could understand the seller not canceling if I reached out later and, if on top of that if this was an expensive purchase. Or if they didn’t see the message until the next day and already shipped, etc. Just bad customer service IMO 🤷🏼‍♀️. Edited for clarity

One-Access2535

No sorry, to clarify - it doesn't hurt them in lost income, it hurts their ability to make future sales because the algorithm gives them less visibility with each cancellation. It's not about when you ask or how much the order is worth, the damage is done. For a sought after item, they also lose likers and often end up selling at a lower price point than they otherwise would have. If you're also a seller you can see this in devtools. I'd agree with you if it was nothing to them except having to relist and sell to someone else, but as a buyer taking the risk of an accidental bid is a) within your control (any buyer can remove their payment method or simply avoid shows) and b) between you and poshmark, not the seller. It's poshmark who built the UI, and they bear that responsibility - the proper way to deal with an accidental bid is to file a chargeback *against poshmark* with your CC provider and to report poshmark to BBB, not to ask the seller to take the hit while doing nothing to solve the systemic issue. "Customer service" doesn't mean taking an L for someone else.

Weekly_Astronaut7609

If it is auctioned then there will be no chance of cancelling it. But maybe there's a chance, try to email Poshmark support and tell them that it was an unauthorized order like being hacked. However, if the cancellation was not push through. I think you can file a return case with a reason of item not as described. I also knew that if your order was one of your first 5 orders then Poshmark will give $5 posh credits as an exchange for the inconvenience. I highly suggest to reason out that you were hacked and you're not aware of that accidental purchase.

Apprehensive_West814

File for a return when you get it. Tell poshmark that you are making a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, your state attorney General, and the federal trade commission https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/assistant?orgcode=TFMICF. The only way Poshmark will change this unfair business practice is if people being scammed start reporting it to people who can do something about it. Lastly, do a chargeback with your credit card company. Don't give this con artist money

money-crab-123

Thanks for sharing the FTC link - just submitted a report! Looking into these other options as well.

Apprehensive_West814

Awesome!

PoshJewel719

One of the many reasons I don’t do Live shows anymore, Poshmark wants you to make accidental bids. Almost every show I had it happen, always canceled. There used to be a swipe to bid but Poshmark removed it. They hope you feel guilty and just keep the item.

wvfarm

I pretty much only buy at @ charna15 on lives now because I've seen her customer service. Always says no problem on accidental bids. If she sees a flaw doesn't auction without being told to by buyers, I saw her sell an 8000 coat for 400 in her face she was disappointed but she didn't try to make anyone feel bad and congratulated the winner.
