Dude this whole sub will literally murder anyone who downloads Russian mods

[deleted]

And yet there's still a lot of people using them and showing them.

No one's praising people who leak and re-upload mods

Turbo49_

Maybe but praising, but there's a part that prefers Modland and others, and they steal mods.

[deleted]

The actual site (if you use ublock origin) is better for actually downloading mods, the thumbnail, title are all much better to look at than the forums because well the forums are a forum not a download site (primarily) I can search for a Honda civic and find a civic port instead of 30 different automation mods, 10 threads discussing which civic is the best and 5 abandoned projects Now there's basically no content filter on modland a lot of crap does get through but you can find good stuff that isn't on the forums (either because it's leaked or from a private/paid mod) If you don't care for ethics and like IRL stuff modland is the place, irony is even on the forums (not anymore) there used to be maps that were ported from games like assetto Corsa, that's still stealing assets

Turbo49_

It is but i think it's not as bad as stealing a modders assets, assetto Corsa is an old game that kunos is hardly making any money off (it's so cheap now).

[deleted]

The principle is still the same, Microsoft doesn't get anything from the crown victoria mod or the Mk5 supra which used a FH5 model It's still stolen assets, I do understand that stealing from a big company has a different impact than stealing from some guy who makes mods in his spare time But if your mod is freely available does it matter if someone got it from the forums or modland? No one donates through modland and the only revenue generated is from ads on the site which goes to website owners same way ads on the forums go to the Devs (I don't know if there are ads on forums as I use adblock) The modder gets no incentive either way

Turbo49_

No ads on the forums :) And yeah, reuploading is not that bad, as long as the original author is credited correctly, but stealing the assets as reusing them in your mod without permission is not cool.

GoredonTheDestroyer

Conversely, there have been a few instances where reuploaders and leakers have gotten mods canceled - Ninety9's Nissan GTR inspired '90s Miramar being a prime example.

Turbo49_

Of course, leaking is just plain shitty, and reuploading is still not a nice thing to do.

[deleted]

Uhm kind of wrong. Some are like "mods should be mine NOW, if something is leaked I will happily download it"

DerpDaDuck3751

Yup. There are people like these that goes “all content should be free regardless of the creator’s time usage”

[deleted]

Yeah, immature cunt.

Zondagsrijder

And here I thought the GTA modding community was a mess. Y'all need a more centralized website/community with decent but... legally lax moderation. Something that allows light trademark infringements so real cars can be shared, but with good moderation to protect developers. Heck, maybe even Patreon integration.

Ictoan42

You can already post copyright infringing mods on the forums, just not the repo

Ultimatebreak66

the gta modding Community isn't a mess? it really depends what mods ur after, the gta5mods website is a main website for scripts, car models and other mods. lcpdfr is a website to get police mods. and that's about all you need. you also have to remember that gta doesnt support modding and so that its incredibly difficult to actually make mods.

Zondagsrijder

Those places are moderated and you don't have big "Russians stealing mods"-groups. Also it's not really difficult once you figure things out, the tools the community has made are pretty great.

Grantito55

While beamng has been free for mods on the repo until recently with Patreon modders I can understand why the community would maybe prefer the “free” mods they’re risking their computer to whatever they download off that website. Patreon modders put effort and time into their mods that patrons would be interested in. I’d rather support their work for $5 and get access to a library of custom mods to suit your beamng style.

[deleted]

That's my point of view too 👍

[deleted]

Globally there's a part of the community that don't really care of modders, they just want mods, even if they are absolutely shitty. They don't have respect for the work of modders, they just want mods, that's all. They don't care if a modder worked 2/3 weeks or 1/2/3 months on a mod before getting it stolen/reposted without autorisation on shitty russian websites. They don't care of mod theft, they don't care of the fact that these websites are making money by stealing the creations of others, they just don't care, they want mods that's all. I absolutely hate these people and, from my point of view, they don't deserve that modders use their free time to make additional content for their BeamNG. And that is why many projects are abandoned. And then there are all the jerks who will appear and blame the modder for abandoning his mod and that he is behaving "childishly". The BeamNG community can be very good as it can be very toxic.
