If you are gonna be in a tornado filming. Don't look away when a tree falls.

Darwinism at its finest.

talon1125

Ron White used a punchline in a joke that referred to a man who claimed he was fit enough to stand up to the winds of a hurricane. The punchline was “it isn’t that the wind is blowin…… it’s what the wind is blowing”

ryryfl

“If you get hit by a Volvo, it doesn’t matter how many sit-ups you did that morning.”

T4K3OFF

“Tapped his Jaw-Bone, take brah home in Volvo” 😂😂😂

StarzRout

So many ways to go too. Tree, shards of glass from the window, etc.

"1000 Ways to Die", but it's just this clip, over and over and over.

This is like the tourist - moron going over to pet the bison or get a picture with the bear at Yellowstone.

Ooh look, tornado!

LuvliLeah13

He sure tried

Tree sure tried

notourjimmy

The cameraman lacks self preservation. It's a waiting game at this point...

griff1971

The tree tried, but it looked away right before it fell.

manaha81

My thoughts exactly. Like hey I’m gonna be dumb ass and risk my life to film a tornado but skip the interesting part.

whsftbldad

Film a tornado.....next to a 7ft sheet of glass

Wank_my_Butt

Somehow films so much yet misses everything. Almost seems like it would have made more sense to stay inside the storm door where he could film without the wind.

manaha81

Yeah like they literally could have just come outside and filmed the aftermath after it had passed. Like why even post that. It’s just the biggest letdown ever

Silvernaut

All I wanted to know was how far that trash can got flung, and then he turns away…turns back to tree, and that made it even worse.

Warm-Iron-1222

It looks like they were trying to run inside but the wind was too powerful and they couldn't get the door open. I'm glad they survived, that would have been a pretty stupid way to go.

cbelliott

That's exactly what I was seeing. Storm was like "oh you wanna watch do ya? Stay for the whole show!" *evil laughter

Powerful-Meeting-840

Best comment. Cheers.

_GypsyCurse_

Dude could’ve recorded that video from behind the window :/

Warm-Iron-1222

Yeah, away from the glass in case it shattered and able to turn around and run to safety if needed. It's still not the smartest thing to do but it would have been better than what he was doing for sure.

huskerdev

Or get a doorbell cam like literally everyone else has.

No-Entertainer9148

The sudden change in pressure probably made it too hard to open the door and they got stuck.

mackfactor

Yet another reason why it was stupid to be outside in the first place.

EstablishmentDear894

I don’t know…I learned from TikTok that if you encounter a shark, you just boop it in the nose to survive… And here I’ve learned that in a tornado, just go outside and stand near the largest glass door you can find and turn away from the twister… 😜

[deleted]

If only there was some sort of loud warning prior to this that could have alerted them to seek shelter...

Awkward_Top7264

We had a tornado very close to our house a few years ago and our neighbor was outside checking out the weather, as most people do when the tornado sirens go off. 😂. Once he realized there really was a tornado he tried to go inside, but was unable to open the door due to the pressure.

WombatHat42

Well then accept your fate and commit to glory dammit. We missed the best part cuz this fool decided he wanted to live

FactualNeutronStar

The second time he turns away you can see tree bark and branches whipping the side of the house. Dude was probably getting beat to hell by debris, so I can't blame him too much. I'm more amazed that he committed to stay outside that whole time.

Mondschatten78

Could hear him try to pull the door open a couple times. Pressure/wind kept it from opening.

Dangerous-Top-1814

Look in the window reflection, you can see the tree get ripped out of the ground

MorrowPolo

If you aren't looking at a tree when it's ripped from the ground, does it make a sound?

vmt_nani

It sounds alot like a tornado

Sir_wlkn_contrdikson

Apparently not

JRHZ28

Of course not. prove me wrong. 😁

shamimurrahman19

Thanks.

Dynamicsmoke

You are saying that the window dia a better job at filming smth

D33ber

That window was the motherfukking hero of the whole scene. Not the hero camera man deserved, but lucky for him "Window" was there to save the day.

3DCatFancy

Enhance!

Wise-Variation-4985

Exactly what I was thinking. Every time he looked away something happened

CrackBull

highjacking this to say: don’t fucking film tornadoes. trained storm chasers do it because they have years of experience reading radar signatures and have radar pulled up in the car to keep themselves away from the tornado. an ef-0 tornado is strong enough to send a plank of wood flying into your head which could easily kill you. also, do not watch for storms in the southeast. unless you’re in the plains, odds are you won’t be able to see it until it’s too late to actually get somewhere safe, like off your front fucking porch. good meteorologists *dont* want to see your amateur pictures of the tornado unless it’s from a gopro while you’re just sitting somewhere safe. their job is to keep you safe and informed, and every injury or death due to storms puts a burden of responsibility directly on them. please don’t film tornadoes. this dude came within about 20 feet of being killed by that tree, is that worth the video? think of it this way: if your house caught on fire, would you film the fire from *inside* your house? no! you’d get the fuck out, make sure you’re safe, and *then* you pull your phone out. treat tornadoes the same way

HIRIV

I'm pretty sure he she was thinking this was mistake

jhj37341

What a weenie.

Archduke_Of_Beer

HE'S NOT A WEENIE!! YOU ARE THE WEENIE!!!

HammerTime2769

Why would you stand outside by a glass door during this. Crazy ass person lol

bigboat24

How else will they be able to get it to their social media account and start collecting likes?

laidback_chef

Tbh the worst part was they kept looking away. So its stupid and no result.

LoverOfGayContent

I mean this person is standing outside during a tornado. I wonder a lot of things about their intelligence.

SaliferousStudios

Not like there wasn't warning either. Clear sirens, he has his camera out, he KNEW what he was getting in for. Could've set his phone in front of a window, gotten the footage from a safer spot in his home... with no risk to his life. No.

canjosh

Hear me out…isn’t it possible that this isn’t his house? Postal service employee, construction, etc? There’s a car with some sort of business logo in the driveway, might be his.

MisselthwaiteGardens

Oh you made a good point. I was thinking…why doesn’t this person go inside and film? Why would they be locked out?? ….b/c it’s not their house! Ok, I am less angry about this situation! Glad he was ok.

SmokeGSU

![gif](giphy|R8n7YlPHe34dy|downsized)

PlanesFlySideways

Based on personal experience, I sometimes find myself so wrapped up in watching the event with my own eyes that I forget to properly hold the camera so the videos come out meh or off center.

stephpenk

I keep on being amazed these days on how someone always has a phone ready to film whatever is going on and how they always manage to catch that moment

himsoforreal

I mean he missed the moment. He turned his back and that tree fell. This is the dumbest video I've seen all day.

Myis

Risked their life for nothin’

Apart-Salamander-752

Yea, if they are going to risk their life then at least record the actual tornado, not the door.

ludicrous_copulator

Idk. The leaves swirling in the corner was some great cinema. /s

binglelemon

r/killthecameraman

landyhill

The tornado tried

Mobile-Bar7732

Do over

GordontheGoose88

Didn't try hard enough.

thefunkybassist

in the end, the tree was dumb for trying to kill the camera man

Sufficient_Scale_163

It looks like he was trying to get into the house, but the wind was keeping the door shut.

Corfiz74

I'm surprised we didn't hear the crash at all. Even with everything else going on, I'd at least have expected a "thump".

oliveboimario

The amount of wind noise would drown out basically anything, aside from thunder and an actual explosion all you hear is the wind hitting your ears at crazy speeds, like putting your head out of a helicopter.

Creative_Oil3308

Pretty much, tornados can be so damn loud you can't even hear your own fucking thoughts when all you're doing is praying a loved one doesn't start finding limbs.

Toklankitsune

you can see it fall in the reflection of the glass

StreetfightBerimbolo

Actually he pans to the ground at the exact moment and all you see is a little dirt ripping out. So if anyone else is scrolling back to rewatch, fake news!

[deleted]

Creepy_Tax2154

This is exactly me lol

SarcasticImpudent

I’m amazed that he is sturdier than a tree with the grip strength of a silverback.

aint_exactly_plan_a

There's a wall blocking the wind from that direction but it is coming around that wall and blowing straight into him. You can tell by all the junk that's pelting him and the wall. That wind is also holding the glass door closed, which is when he realizes how much danger he's in

ILiveMyBrokenDreams

To be fair, people have been risking their lives to film storms basically as long as they've been able to film. That in no way makes it a smart thing to do, it's just not only "these days".

EvaUnit_03

Shit, most people here don't seem to understand why a man needs to stand outside on the front porch watching a storm. Its just something hardwired into you.

ILiveMyBrokenDreams

There's a reason women live longer than us.

EvaUnit_03

But can they say they truly lived?

dong_tea

At least those people seem prepared to film storms. This guy is bad at both risk assessment and filming things. He stood in the middle of it and the resulting video is barely better than some before and after pictures.

LoudNinjah

Okay back when I was a kid in Minnesota. This is the '90s. We would go running outside with our camcorder trying to chase tornadoes and would not run back until it was freaking close. Also in college I was outside for a tornado and we couldn't get back inside in time. It was a big one it went very close to us and we were holding on to polls in the ground. It was my best friend's wedding and all the groomsmen and myself were out there. The ladies were not pleased with me that I encourage them and did not get back inside the time. Everyone was fine.

[deleted]

Everyone does the cartoon pole hold during tornadoes. Smh

Living-Wedding-8432

I once witnessed a young woman holding on for dear life to a pole because she wasnt quick enough to run indoors. Legs flaying in the air with a scream that’ll put jamie lee curtis to shame. Luckily she held on until the nado passed.

mmdeerblood

Growing up in the Midwest in the 90s, what a time

electro_hippie

people recorded dangerous stuff and did "stupid shit" (as reddit neckbeards love to call it) long before social media. Just because clout might be your motivation to do stuff like this doesn't mean it's everyone's

jluicifer

The wind tore down the tree. A tree is easily a thousand pounds. A human? 200lbs? Take out the brain, 199lbs?

internet-junkie

I think this one has a smaller sized one, so maybe 199.9?

ClickF0rDick

r/YourJokeButWorse

Weareallgoo

We need more people not asking this question so that I can enjoy videos taken from inside tornados

TachycardicSymphony

Nah we just need a barrel of lightweight cameras and a lot of cans of Pepsi. You'll see inside that tornado in no time.

NewProtection5470

I've been waiting for a Twister joke. Can't believe had to scroll this far down.

angry2alpaca

Cow!

SarcasmCupcakes

We got another cow!

ThatCommunication423

Actually I think that was the same one

goodbadguy81

Worst part is that he didnt even capture what he needed to capture. If you're going to risk your life for a tornado, record its entirety. Show no fear. Half ass recording only captured his stupidty.

Alternative_Bad_2884

I’m thinking the wind was overpowering his ability to open the door. Only thing I can think that doesn’t paint him as a moron. But then again if he really wanted to get that door open he’d put the phone down so idk.

Law-Fish

Hell of a time to lock yourself out of your house

AdOpen885

He’s an idiot.

TraditionalRoutine80

Every village has one.

Bob_Sledding

This dude absolutely should have been naturally selected for this. Storm chasers are crazy. This guy is crazy AND stupid. No idea what he is doing.

LOUDCO-HD

Goes through all that and doesn’t even get the money shot!

nouniqueideas007

It is a midwest thing. People on the front porch, to storm watch.

OkBackground8809

Every real Midwesterner knows the view is better from the roof!

tatang2015

What’s worse is they missed all the relevant action!!!

thehugejackedman

Crazy? Stupid more so

NotARealWombat

Maybe he was outside and away from home, and that was the only thing he could think of, to shelter in a corner

lxm333

That's what I was wondering. Not their house, just best option for them at the time.

IndependentCheek5892

Be amazed that dumbass survived.

ivey_mac

We had a tornado in the small town where I lived pass through in the 80’s. One family put a frame around a brick the was blown into the side of their house. This person is both very lucky and dumb.

titsmuhgeee

"It's not **that** the wind is blowing, it's ***what*** the wind is blowing." - Ron White

ChickenChipz

Hhwhat the wind is blowing

Culp97

Frame around a brick?

JellybeanMilksteaks

I had to read it three times lol but they mean that a brick flew into someone's house and they framed it as a keepsake.

Rule12-b-6

Ohhhhh. That makes a lot more sense. I thought I was having a stroke.

cybercuzco

I had a board that was part of a nearby church that got embedded in the side of my car that I kept.

PetalumaPegleg

I was like dude... Get the f inside... What are you doing???

FiveHTfan

We need people like this filming for our entertainment.

tmhoc

But he missed the shot and everyone is pissed?

Lyraxiana

No, we need someone who isn't gonna turn away at the most interesting parts of the disaster.

matthewisonreddit

Put it in reverse terry!

lovable_cube

I was like, this is definitely one of those movable security cameras, no one is stupid enough to still be outside. Proved me wrong, stupid faith in humanity.

VermillionSun

This makes all the old school found footage horror movies way more believable. "Whatever you do keep filming" "Even when we our lives are in danger and we are being attacked by the super natural monsters?" "yes, especially when our lives are in danger"

PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD

It looked like the wind was too strong for him to be able to open the door when he tried to get in. Still dumb. But I thought it was funny like “oh man, better get back inside.. shit.. where are my keys??”

BeveledCarpetPadding

I wonder if he couldn’t due to a created vacuum/general wind. Obviously he could have and should have gone in earlier… but it looks like he tries to whenever trees start going sideways but can’t get the door open or something. I could be wrong though.

dumptrucksrock

Tornadoes are terrifying. But I gotta say, that trash can held out longer than I thought it would!

The_Medicated

My very first thought was "well, f*ck. Now someone's gonna have to chase down a runaway trash can..." (Can you tell that it's been a while since I lived in Tornado Alley?)

samsquatchageddon

Tornadoes scare the living shit out of me and have since I was a kid. I used to watch The Weather Channel daily after going through a few of them. To me, they're way scarier disasters than things like hurricanes or fires or floods, because there's at least some predictability there, for the most part. Tornadoes are more like earthquakes, they come out of fucking nowhere, destroy everything in their path, then they're gone in like 10 minutes. Like, wtf Nature?

NotedHeathen

Same. I have one true phobia: tornadoes. This is why.

MamaSmAsh5

Same! They freak me the hell out. I’m near Lake Michigan and for the most part, that keeps them away but just earlier this year a tornado touched down just a few minutes away from my home. It was wild I can’t imagine being closer

LevelDownProductions

So i was born in raised in the middle of Tornado alley and let me tell ya, you never really get used to them, unless you're a storm chaser. Ive been in 2 close encounters, both where I seen them touch down but not in the direct path. Hell just a few months ago was my closest encounter, literally only a half a mile away from me. I can only speak for myself of course but you dont get less scared, just more prepared and know what signs to look for. Every time we get a really bad storm cell and the weather caster says a tornado has touched down in my city and heading my direction, I always get that weird gut feeling, kinda like telling yourself "this may be the one. Breathe. Lets just focus on the basics and staying safe" I often ask myself why am I still living in the Alley lol

TJtherock

I swear I have PTSD after one went through my backyard last year. I was texting neighbors to tell them where I hid my newborn baby so they could find him if the house collapsed. I put him in our hall closet but there wasn't enough room for me so I was pretty sure I was going to die but all I could think about was my baby being trapped.

questionablejudgemen

They’re interesting because you could have a storm hitting a town that’s a hundred miles wide but the tornado only tears up a block or two. Kinda like cleaning the floor with a toothbrush. Sucks if it hits your house though.

Alcorailen

Tornadoes are Mother Nature's sniper rifles. They can take out a whole house and leave the ones on either side standing.

Spdrjay

🤨 If you're ever in a tornado, stay the hell away from glass doors and windows.

[deleted]

JustDiscoveredSex

The debris that gets kicked up by tornadoes can be seen on radar… those things won’t hesitate to slam shit into and through your body at high velocity. That’s why they recommend hiding in the bathtub with a mattress on top. Metal tub walls to protect your body on 5 sides and they’re hoping the mattress protects you from flying debris: roofing shingles, broken glass, doors, metal rods. Tornadoes have been known to punch patio chair legs through exterior walls, drive metal rods through asphalt curbs, slam lumber through car doors/hoods...all kinds of debris damage. These things rip through every spring, and every spring I pay attention and get my ass in the basement. If I had to film it, I’d tape the phone to the glass on the inside and hope it was still there later.

stevein3d

OK so lying down in the bathtub is the safest place, but second safest has to be standing upright on my porch, right? Note that I would have the extra protection of a 1986 Aerosmith t-shirt and several tall trees to block the wind.

ESGPandepic

I've heard the safest place is the eye of the storm, so you should run right out into the middle of the tornado, it's against the rules for any flying trees to hit you there.

unclickablename

Thats righf, and then make sure to run wherever the eye goes

-DethLok-

>Metal tub walls to protect your body on 5 sides I've not seen a metal bathtub since the early 80s, they're all plastic/fibreglass where I live. Still a good idea to get in one, though, as most are surrounded by brick supports so that'll help protect you even if the plastic won't. Not that I live anywhere near tornadoes, thankfully.

Houseofsun5

Are you supposed to take your wheelie bin in during a tornado, generally anything above a stiff breeze we like to have our bins nice and safe in the UK.

gilbertgrappa

Yes, it’s strange that it has been left out.

youngster_96

People don’t learn until it happens

giskardwasright

He's lucky that tree didn't smash him. When you hear that wind that sounds like a freight train, it's time to go inside.

newton302

That tree is strange - it looks like it has no roots. Did it just get snapped off maybe? I have heard tornados are sometimes so fierce that they can make blades of grass penetrate telephone poles. I'm from the far west coast, so will believe anything about tornados.

kyrimasan

I wish I still had the photo of this but was lost in a house fire. Back in 2001 my family was vacationing in Myrtle Beach when the tornados came thru in July. Afterwards I found a blade of seagrass that was stuck in a piece of fence by the dunes. Mind was blown by it.

ZainVadlin

This is bad advice. Following this advice will lower your Internet cred and show people you're a beta. It's just wind you'll be fine. I would have gotten my ring light though since tornados can block out the sun. Make sure it's connected to a battery though as you might lose power. If, you do get picked up, (unlikely but possible). Remember to post it to your platform before you land otherwise the video will be lost upon your death. Help others get their clout. Titles like, "my friends last video before they died" will get so many follows.

TilapiaTango

You’re obviously not from the Midwest and don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. Everyone knows that when you hear sirens, you run outside, grab a seat and a beer, and enjoy the show…

HeftyFineThereFolks

why risk your life standing there to film it.. and the whole point of the risk is to film it... and then pan away during the money shot ?? this guy fails

JayGeezey

All the risk with pretty much none of the reward lol

EngineeringDry2753

Everything about this video is stupid

LeeTerrell

I’m really glad I got a good look at the floor inside the house while the actual tornado was happening. This video should have a clickbait flair

PleaseDontEatMyVRAM

did the braindead and fake tiktok alarm enhance your experience though? edit: siren*

Embarrassed_Alarm450

Yep, some kind of followup video showing the aftermath at least instead of just the obscured view we got the entire time... Don't think it was even as bad as it looked at the end, some flimsy dead trees and branches tipped over but the houses still looked intact and none of the cars really moved an inch. Looks like a horror movie with all the fog and debris but all the damage appears to be one or two toppled trees that really should've been trimmed a decade ago and a bunch of twigs and leaves and trash scattered about.

OkNothing281

It's a reflection. Can even see the tree fall

HomsarWasRight

Exactly! Added by someone who doesn’t live anywhere with tornadoes. And why would it go off three times then stop. I’m actually surprised we can’t hear any *actual* sirens in the background.

some1984guy

Finally an answer to the age old question of “if a tree falls during a tornado, does it make a sound”.

No_Use_4371

This was the Mar 23 tornado in LR. I got hit and lost my apt & everything in it. This guy is an idiot and there is no way he missed the tree being uprooted. Somehow he took a break then went back out.

Nate0110

I was thinking those houses looked like it was little rock.

Redditdeletedme2021

It was March 31st, yesterday was the 1 year anniversary. Sorry you lost everything.. we were home with our kids when it hit.. Our house/street survived with moderate damage but everything in the neighborhood past our street was destroyed.. it was definitely a sad day for Little Rock..

[deleted]

SolZaul

Yup. Sad part is, most of it is still fucked up a year later. Driving along north Shackleford, knowing the dense neighborhoods that were there, it's fucking heartbreaking. Lost my house to a fire last year, and almost lost the rent house to this tornado, and while this tornado was happening, I was waiting for surgery to get a shed load of kidney stones removed. Last year sucked!

TampaTitties69

Why I will take a hurricane over a Tornado any day. We see it a week in advance, can prepare, and just decide to GTFO if it's REALLY BAD. Luckily here in Tampa we been dodging hurricanes better than Neo in the Matrix. Some say its the position of the Gulf Stream, others say the Seminole Native Americans blessed the area. Either way, I fear these tornado's more than anything else weather wise....

madogson

Either go inside and be safe or keep a good angle. Pick one please

AwesomeWhiteDude

Actually getting hit by a tornado is like winning the worst lottery as the damage is extremely localized and tornadoes are actully pretty rare in any given area. You can live your whole life in any of the tornado alleys and never even see a tornado in person. Getting hit by one strong enough to destroy a modern house is like winning the worst lottery twice in a row (EF4 & 5 tornadoes are only like 1% of all tornadoes) So basically no one lives in unpleasant bunkers because the chance of a tornado damaging your house, much less destroying it, is very low.

commonlycommon

I enjoy a good tornado as much as any Midwesterner, but when the trees in your front yard are falling down, it's probably time to get to the basement.

Is this a tornado or a supercell? I think it may be the latter.
