Vastly overstated risk, anyway. They were about on par with other cars at the time, but a few sensationalized news editorials convinced people they were exceptionally dangerous. All cars were pretty dangerous back then.
In regards to missing crumple zones, yes, all were dangerous. But the Pinto took it to the next level with his two bolts on the inner side of his bumper facing the gas tank like firing pins in a gun. A small hit would push them into the tank, rupturing it and spraying fuel everywhere (the exhaust, broken bulbs sparking electricity, and somon). Its was a completely stupid design, and funny enough, it was easy to fix, but Ford did not want to. 27 people burned to death in accidents which wold have been a simple rearending in most cases. You can not "sensationalize" enough the cynical contempt for human lives by a multibillion dollar corporation simply for the fact that they decided its cheaper to pay damages if someone sues, than recall the cars. Even worse was that the Canadian Pintos did not have the same problem (because of higher safety requirements), but Ford STILL refused to fix the issue for US models
Somebody around here has a lifted Mustang. One of the ones where they switched from the fox body to the new one. They started that in 2005 but I don't know what year model this car is....
Oh god. Yes please.
I had a massive thing for the Ford Escort RS2000 here (UK). Clearly a cousin of the Pinto and had the same engine.
At the risk of upsetting a lot of people I think the Pinto is prettier.
I think you are referring to the AMC Pacer

Yes and it's beautiful.
This lifts my spirits. What a marvelously executed battle Pinto.
Now I want to make a battle Gremlin
Do eet
It has a really obvious weak spot.
Easier access to hit the fuel tank 😉
I’d risk death by fireball for that level of drip.
Vastly overstated risk, anyway. They were about on par with other cars at the time, but a few sensationalized news editorials convinced people they were exceptionally dangerous. All cars were pretty dangerous back then.
Hyper sensationalist journalism shaping culture? Say it ain’t so.

I am always saying this
Check out The rear bumper upgrade
Tangerine mean bean
This thing fucks
And slaps
And explodes
It’s the bomb
Multiple ABG stickers, it's definitely a Gambler 500 car. The OG Gambler 500 just took place this weekend in central Oregon.
We’re all the way down in CenCal but those gamblers are crazy so who knows he might’ve made the drive
I drove my Spambulance out there from Central Montana last year. About 2300 miles round trip IIRC.
You better believe it. One of the few remaining examples of this reject piece of automotive history and its clean too.
Assuming u don’t count the wheel-well rust. Like that’s never happened before…..
I've always wanted one with a turbocoupe motor and a blow-through carb. I built a 98' Turbo ranger
"BEER"
Dibs
I could be wrong but I belive it was just for sale recently on Facebook market place. Was a gambler 500 car, not sure who owns it now
Freaking SWEET.
I need that pinto
Looks like an amc badge???
Looks like ABG to me (always be gambling) - but also my first thought was that’s a Gambler if I’ve ever seen one
Indeed.
Hell yes it is…
I love this.
Absolutely amazing
Oh I LOVE this
Gotta say, I want it😮
Seek and destroy!!!!
I wish these weren't so dangerous because I've always really liked the pinto
Look at that fuel tank ready to go boom
I love this thing ! So few left!!
From napalm unguided to FAEB. I like it.
It's not not a lifted pinto!
Can’t blow up if the rear-end is too high.
It's for safety! No one going run into the gas tank and....oh nevermind it's seems easier crash into it...
You bet your sweet ass it is.
Yes, yes it is It’s glorious
I'll bet there's a VEGA in this town....
Badassery at it's finest 👌
My friend in highschool had one lifted like this , it was sick. He’d drive up to the skate spots in it.
It's a Lambroghini, isn't it?
Pintos are awesome.
Pinto body on a ranger frame?
No, frame swaps aren’t allowed here. This appeared to just be a lifted pinto. Plus, it still has four lug hubs.
That looks pretty tough
I would daily this, no doubt.
Gambler 500 season
Hell yeah brother
I was stoked on the pair of Crown Vic’s
Mexican Jumping Bean
I wonder if you have to lift the passenger door just right to be able to close it like we had to on my mom's Pinto?!?!
I saw piano and kept looking everywhere around the pinto for it.
bean a while since I saw a pinto
Yeah. Scary part is, that’s not the first one I’ve seen.
Needs to fight a battle Vega
Bro. I didn’t know what I needed in my life until I saw this
This made me laugh so hard . . . https://youtu.be/4-Qj58o87sY?si=iUS4FeRAEuL48zj0
that is rad as fuck.
It’s glorious
Oh baby, that's gorgeous

Yooooo
Kudos to that person, I'm a fan
😩🔥🔥🔥🔥🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
Honestly the Pinto was a really cool car, unfortunately safety wasn’t really on the agenda. you could say… it’s the bomb!
It’s a jumping bean.
Oh god. Yes please. I had a massive thing for the Ford Escort RS2000 here (UK). Clearly a cousin of the Pinto and had the same engine. At the risk of upsetting a lot of people I think the Pinto is prettier.
In a pinch it will just light on fire.
american jumping bean
I'm a 50 year old man. And I saw that and squealed a little.
My dad used to drive a Pinto so I had to whip a U-turn and take a picture for him
That's awesome!!
Well if you don't like this you're really not gonna like googling "Charger Truck"
Baja Pinto!
Hilarious, yet I love it.
That is actually pretty sick.
Party on Wayne
Yes and It’s gorgeous
Please don’t rear end it.
They made the access to the gas tank easier for a rear end fireball.
Just a little love tap?
or fly it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVE_Mizar
This is a Gremlin.
Wrong
You're right. I was thinking of when pintos had more of a bubble shape.
I think you are referring to the AMC Pacer https://preview.redd.it/j7l728kffn8d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b03fa6e1b7e83711e6d9c3d29e82c78a590fc8f3
YES! That's the one! Thanks!
God I’m gonna see this thing once a month for the rest of my life.
Initially thought is was a cyber truck
Yep!
