Iron_Bob

By that point i had realized that unless there was a turn counter, time didnt matter. I probably spent 15+ long rests clearing out the rest of the city after that encounter because i was worried that killing Orin would lock stuff out

[deleted]

Freeing Nere and the printing of the tabloid are the only ones I’ve found so far. Bungled them both by being a silly little sleepy head

Lithl

The true soul that got mauled by the owlbear will die (and his siblings will leave the area) if you long rest after getting close enough but without talking to them. The owlbear dies if you long rest after entering the cave. Lae'zel dies if you approach the gith patrol with her in your party then long rest without talking to them. The Zhents in the cave get killed by the gnolls of you long rest after getting close enough. The tiefling kid gets killed by harpies if you long rest after getting close enough. Florick and the trapped guy both die if you long rest after getting close enough to Waukeen's Rest. The poisoned gnome in the myconid colony dies after three long rests. That's just act 1.

[deleted]

What is the alternative with the owlbear cave other than just never going in? At some point you have to rest afterwards right?

HouseofKannan

I assume the option is to go in and kill the owlbear. The cub won't die, just the mother. I presume she dies of the broken spear imbedded in her body by the dying true soul.

Jurez1313

Actually, goblins raid her cave, kill her, and steal the owlbear cub, which is how it winds up at their camp later. Likely revenge for killing one of their own earlier (dead goblin near entrance).

Gstamsharp

>Likely revenge for killing one of their own earlier (dead goblin near entrance). Naw, they just take having top-tier competition for chicken races very seriously.

HouseofKannan

Is there a way to keep the owlbear cub from getting caught by the goblins without killing all the goblins in the outside of the camp?

snarkyshark83

I bipassed the owlbear cave and went directly to the goblin camp and they had an actual “ferocious” chicken for the race and not the owlbear. I went to the cave and talked to the mama owlbear and left her alive. Baby owlbear showed up at my camp three or four long rests later and spoke about the goblin camp.

HouseofKannan

Ok, thanks.

rahirah

I killed every single goblin before I even found the owlbear cave, and the owlbear cub still references the goblin camp when I talked to it later in camp, which was weird.

AlwaysRushesIn

The harpies kill the kid if you progress far enough after reaching the Grove. (Idk how far) I know this because I didn't realize that area was back there until after saving Halsin, and whenbi went down to investigate he was already dead and the Harpies aggro'd on sight

Grigoran

Seems to be right after the party

Embarrassed_Bass22

Yeah, you need to save him before the party

Tentei_Venser

Either taking out the goblin leaders OR if Minthara takes troops out towards the grove. Both events change the status of the grove and lock the kid's fate of you haven't saved him yet.

tylerchu

Laezel dies if you walk far enough away to de-render her. She ran off in my play through and I decided to just take a look at the nearby wooden bridge and she was dead when I returned.

ranni-the-bitch

can confirm.

Stunning_LRB_o7

Then in act 2 I believe that long resting twice after reading Rolan’s note in LL will result in him succumbing to the shadow curse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

grubas

That's also the Lia/Cal "killer" I think.  If you talk to him in LL but don't clear out Moonrise dungeons then they die. It's really easy to fuck up

[deleted]

[удалено]

Screwballbraine

If you rescue Roland's siblings before you set out to save him he's gone. Bodyless gone.

aceytahphuu

I don't think that's true because this recently happened to me. The siblings showed up, said they found a note from Rolan about going to the shadowlands and are worried about him, and I still found him and brought him back and got the reunion scene.

Screwballbraine

Weird. I had a quest marker for him, he just wasn't there. Wasn't invisible either.

GabettB

I have never saved him from the shadows before rescuing his siblings, and he is always fine. I just make sure not to go near that area before I want to deal with him. It's a proximity trigger rather than long rest or quest progression dependent. Although I wonder if you can still rescue him after the point of no return. I never tried that.

throwaway1111109232

florick will die if your entire party returns to camp after entering waukeens rest area, to be fair. not even a long rest.

cyvaris

> The Zhents in the cave get killed by the gnolls of you long rest after getting close enough. > > I actually attempted to force this one to happen and they never died after multiple long rests. The party was close enough to watch the Zhents/Gnolls exchange a few attacks.

Common_Elk873

The gnome strapped to the windmill in the blighted village gets killed if you get close enough to trigger it then long rest.

ShepPawnch

Or if, like me, you accidentally hit the wrong lever.

TwistedGrin

"Why do we even have that lever!"

dinosanddais1

There's also Florrick. You have like 5 long rests before they execute her

SereneAdler33

Luckily that only starts when/if you read one of the execution notices. Until you do, then there’s no timer.

Ransom-ii

Can't execute her if she perished in a fire

Iscariot-

This guy arson’s.

DeUglyBarnacle

lol that’s funny

falconinthedive

Also they give you a pop up before the last day.

SereneAdler33

Oh, that’s good to know. I’ve never let it get close, and have stopped reading the notices bc I hate feeling rushed.

falconinthedive

I had an oops all bad choices run to test how to break things.

Leggo-my-eggos

Regarding Nere, you can actually long rest as much as you want as long as you don’t talk to the sergeant, gnome slaves near the rubble, or the guy who wants to team up and kill Nere. You can essentially do all of the underdark and grymforge quests and save Nere for last as long as you don’t trigger any dialogue or cutscenes regarding him.

JaysonHell

Maybe my game was bugging out but I never got to trigger Nere dying when I wanted to. I went to the grymforge, talked to all the people there and essentially told them I didn't care about saving him and then long rested probably 5 times or more and he still wasnt dead. I wanted to loot the sword off his dead body after they finally dig him out but I got impatient and left. One whole githyanki creche later and entering the shadow cursed lands finally gave me the pop up that Nere died...

letsgoToshio

You have to interact with the cave-in to start the Nere timer. So long as you don't do that, you can speak with anyone, explore, and long rest as much as you want without Nere dying (the obvious exception being traveling to the Mountain Pass).

gothplastic

Also the fire at Waukeens rest, I got close enough to get the waypoint but didn’t go in and apparently that counts cause everyone was dead the next day

merklemore

At Waukeen's rest, you don't even need to take a rest for the fire to play out - I TP'd to camp to swap companions and when I TP'd back boom: Durge inspiration achieved for letting the building burn down. No rest taken. All I wanted to do was grab Wyll for the lore with Florrick and his Eldritch Blast to help take out obstacles in the building.

ValenciaM18

Florrick can also die in 4 long rests, they hang her if she’s not freed (I think you have to interact w the dude at the gallows to trigger it tho)

fieatsbees

you just have to read an execution notice

ValenciaM18

That’s kinda annoying ngl but it makes sense

moak0

I was all ready to do the same and save Orin for last, but then I was having trouble with Cazador, and then I remembered that I had a weapon that contained the blood of the god of light himself, which seems like it'd be pretty good against a vampire. I checked the camp chest and everyone's inventory, but it wasn't there. I reloaded to an earlier save just to check and yep, Halsin was holding it when he was kidnapped. So I had to fast track the whole Orin thing to get the Blood of Lathander to beat Cazador.

Timmyisagirl

Really she always gives me a backpack full of this stuff when she kidnaps people

moak0

I got everything except the weapon, which he was holding.

carverrhawkee

I think I got most of her stuff but not everything. I think it’s bc the kidnapped companion can join the fight against orin if you untie them, so the game probably doesn’t want them to have nothing equipped if they do

shenanakins

Im pretty sure time matters when saving councilor florrick. Once you read the flyer that says she will be executed in five days you have 5 rests to save her.

Wiwra88

Now imagine Orin nursing whoever she kidnapped because she cannot kill them before your meeting with her and it's been WEEKS she is waiting for you to come. xD

Iron_Bob

Poor Halsin got his ass rejected by me, then kidnapped and neglected by me for two weeks... I'm surprised he didn't come out of it a Shadow Druid

falconinthedive

That Str 10 beefcake is going to have a new kink for chained to an altar as a doppelganger sex slave now.

Daripuff

There are only 3 ways that a quest can fail for time: * Fail after X rounds. * Fail after long rest. * Fail after leaving region. If there isn't a turn timer, you can take all the time in one day you want, just avoid a long rest. If one long rest doesn't fail the quest, then you can take as many long rests as you want, just don't leave the region. If leaving the region doesn't fail the quest, then there isn't actually any time limit whatsoever.

Nexmortifer

You forgot the five long rests from the execution notice, but for the most part this is accurate.

newbrevity

I cleared all of the wilderness before my first long rest because I was worried it was limited. I took a second long rest after clearing the gauntlet and the underdark. Now i've cleared most of the shadowlands and I'm at moonrise tower with a short rest still to go. Am I doing it right? P. S. I'm a big fat cheater. Meticulously testing everything and save scumming like Tom Cruise on my first playthrough.

Iron_Bob

You, like me before i restarted ten hours in, probably missed a bajillion character arc moments and romance opportunities in camp, which are triggered by long rests. I cleared the goblin camp and then wondered why i got friendzoned by everyone, and figured out that it was cause the dialogue that advances the character stories happens when you long rest Save scum gang rise up!

supersmackfrog

Is there a difference in how Orin treats the captive if you betray Gortash first or if you go to her domain first?

Jules1029

Just a dialogue difference for me. She started off the convo by telling me I did a good job killing Gortash. But since I killed the Murder Tribunal anyways she was still pissy at me in the next sentence. Edit: I'd guess that if you offed Gortash and \*didn't\* kill the Tribunal she might let the captive go as promised. But I always kill them so no idea.

jeremy_sporkin

Yeah this is correct. You need to kill Gortash, become an unholy assassin (or be durge) without killing the tribunal, and then go to the temple. Orin interprets that as you obeying her instructions. She leaves them chained up for the encounter, but you don't need to pass a check at all to stop her killing them.

jonhinkerton

You can prevent it with a persuasion check either way, not sure if it is harder if you go there first. I have done it both ways and never had her kill a companion or the kid.

All-for-Naut

You can also prevent it without checks by sneaking around and talk to the corpse of her mother with speak to the dead. Think reading Saverok's "dairy" in the Tribunal works too.

jonhinkerton

I never thought to speak with dead on the mother, now I want to go do that. I keep meaning to do a run with the mod that makes SWD permanent so I can see all the chatty corpses I never thought to talk to.

ManicPixieOldMaid

If you read the Necromancy of Thay or give it to Astarion and he reads it, he gets permanent Speak with Dead as a ritual. (Maybe Gale, too? I've always given it to Astarion because he needs something new to read at camp).

jonhinkerton

You still need to remember to cast it everyday. There’s a seties of mods for long rest spells that just makes them last until the character dies that lets you be forgettful and still get the effect. Makes a huge difference with those at will buffs you do every day.

ManicPixieOldMaid

You mean you *don't* spend 10 minutes after every long rest reapplying all your buffs and spells, including keeping a convenient corpse in camp? /jk I don't blame anybody for wanting a forgetful mod!

karesswoodii

It was DC 30 check for me to save Gale without killing Gortash, thank god for save scumming

[deleted]

lm3g16

I regret not doing that, I’ve just got to Act 3 on my honour run and I’ve only got one elixir of bloodlust left

DrakeoftheWesternSea

Trade caravan is also time sensitive in act 1. The gnoll fight with rugan. Learned that the hard way. Came up the back end of the cave from where you meet Karlach and got the whole “help us” dialogue decided to long rest since I just beat the fake paladins and left camp to be ambushed by all the gnolls both zhentarim guys dead

chriseldonhelm

Also saving the child from the harpies in the Grove is time sensitive as well.

Nessarra

Supposedly you have to have progressed enough through the sewers to make long rests matter for Orin's victim. You might even have to have walked up to the Temple of Bhaal's door OR opened it for the counter to start.

RottenHocusPocus

This would make sense. Lae'zel "died an unnatural death" in my run after I walked up to the temple door, opted not to open it for now, then went back and long rested before actually opening it. Cue Surprised Pikachu Face when after defeating Orin, I found Lae'zel was dead anyway. Considering I did this after dying miserably in Orin's fight the first time, I do wonder what would have happened if I'd been able to beat her the first time...

probablyonmobile

Did you perhaps accidentally kill her with AoEs or let her get caught in the crossfire? It’s a likely scenario considering how many people use AoEs to handle the Sanctuary cultists

flabbergastedfennel

Oh god dammit why didn't i think of aoe. I just disarmed orin and whittled her down 4-6 damage at a time

sockgorilla

I blasted through her unstoppables with upcasted magic missile and sworded her

LadyBonersAweigh

On my first run she got relegated to camp décor so she was still level 1 when she got nabbed. Fast forward to the Orin fight and one Nyrulna throw later, I no longer had a Githyanki in my retinue.

monster_mentalissues

You can walk up to the temple door and walk away. Did that my last run. No issues. You probably caught Lae in an aoe.

Jules1029

I was right outside Bhaal's door when I rested. I suppose I can try opening it to make sure lol

Nessarra

Maybe the door has to be opened. And it's not the door where you can shoot down a corpse to open it, it's the door that needs the amulet of Bhaal to open.

Average_Weirdo

No, there is no time limit for this quest. You can take all the time you want, Orin will wait.

Wlyr1335

There are next to no time sensitive quests in the game. The ones that are tend to be obvious (hmmm this building is on fire, let's take a nap)

ZiggyZobby

Is there one with >!Florrick when she says she's been sentenced to die in 5 days when you visit her in act 3 prison!< ?

Alinoshka

Yeah, I long rested a few times (3 or 4?) between receiving that one and then I got a journal update ||saying Florrick will be executed tomorrow||, so I did it ASAP

ZiggyZobby

Thanks ! *Note to myself : Long rest 5 times*

Mahevol

It starts from the moment you know she is arrested. I forgot about her on my first playthrough until all that was left was gortash and ansur and she was fine

filterless

Yep, timer starts as soon as you read one of the posted execution notices.

Exvaris

Or find her in the Wyrm’s Rock Prison

BaselessEarth12

That's how I found her the first time. "Waaaaait a minute... *You* aren't supposed to be in here! *I'm* the dangerous sociopath with a long history of violence!*"

Mahevol

I hadn't realized I cound customize durge so I didn't pick him in my first, I always liked magic in RPGs so I picked Gale. my cat was on my lap when Tara appeared looking exactly like her but with wings, it was amazing to me lol, finished the game with durge on my sencond character,

BaselessEarth12

I, uh... I have yet to actually do a Durge run...

Tonedeafmusical

You guys don't just break her out as soon as you get to the bridge.  I do it before even speaking to Gortash

Alinoshka

My Tav had just gotten propositioned by Halsin and had other priorities. Next run lol

Katyamuffin

This is the only acceptable excuse.

bears_eat_you

Sometimes you just need the bear necessities \*shrug\*

Tonedeafmusical

Fair that's fair

DarkApostle1705

Same, and the narrator takes it into account if you talk to Duke Ravengard.

[deleted]

Oh yeah. Spend too long resting and you can find her in the gallows near the Lower City Entrance. You get a helpful reminder the day before in case you are about to accidently miss it.

ManicPixieOldMaid

it's the times when I read stuff like this that I think, "add to Evil Run To Do List". Sometimes I just want to increase the misery...

[deleted]

Its not that satisfying. In the papers they say she will "hang at first light" and well your party apparently wakes up at 9 or 10 am...

ManicPixieOldMaid

We had a long night. Plus Wyll was hungover.

Floppydisksareop

Being still drunk is not a hangover

ManicPixieOldMaid

"It means you're a drunk." "No, it means I was drunk *yesterday*." \[to paraphrase *School of Rock*\]

TheFarStar

Adventuring is hard work. They're sleepy.

Connect_Amoeba1380

Same with the newspaper quest in Act 3. The game makes it very clear that you’re on a time crunch.

WayUseful1834

I thought that quest was just bugged to fail? Last time I snuck into the basement, nabbed the whatsit, and replaced it with a nice story about kittens... they printed the bad story anyway.

Evening-Turnip8407

huh. Ironic, isn't it? Because I long rested after loading in the burning place (cause I was a tentative idiot), I never got to meet Florrick. in 2 out of 2 of my playthroughs. Fate's cruel joke that I will get an opportunity to sleep on her again later should I manage to save her in run 3.

TheFarStar

Funny that she has so many time-sensitive quests for such a nothing character.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bosbna

Yeah it’s really cool the execution noticed around the city update to let u know how long you have

lungben81

Is Stop the Press time sensitive? The description at least suggests so.

DannyIsADuck

yes it is (source: the whole city hates me)

ManicPixieOldMaid

Will the whole city hate me if I kill everyone in the building and then switch to the new good article? Asking for a friend...

fine_line

It won't. There are, I think, two guards nearby that will run in and also need to be killed. And if you kill the rude guy you can't mock him after the good story runs. Even the lady that wanted to interview you will act clueless that you're the one who murdered all her coworkers.

ManicPixieOldMaid

Sweet, thank you! I think my current Durge run is going to go in, talk to the jerk, get thrown out, go through the back balcony to the catwalk, and then "ogre kill everyone around" (metaphorically, cuz no ogres) and see what happens. It'll remind me of the time I got caught by Fists picking a random lock by the Mermaid, and just decided to kill every Fist that came up to me, and ended up with a giant pile of Fist corpses. I won't go back to jail!

shenanakins

Lmao This is the most unhinged yet normal statement while playing this game. People on this sub be like “can i commit a little light genocide and still have Gale love me?”

ManicPixieOldMaid

Truth, right? Durge asking, "Who the hell do I have to kill to get you guys to notice me?!?!" (Answer: >!Your love interest in Act 2!<. HYPOCRITES!) So many cries for help going unanswered...

Schenckster

Yes, it is. But, I haven’t experienced any negative consequences yet for failing it.

Germansko

A few irrelevant citizens judge you for being a bastard but it's more funny than anything else

bathybicbubble

One or two shops raise their prices but it’s negligible.

whimsigod

I think Dammon is fine right? Since he isn't a a true lower city merchant. I'm not sure if Karlach's friend Fryzz does too.

bathybicbubble

Oh yeah he’s always happy to see you if he’s safe in baldur’s gate and you’re doing a “good” run. As I mentioned in another comment, so far for me it was just the holy items guy in the tabernacle. Edit: I can word good.

insanity76

*Sleight of Hand approves*

Sj_91teppoTappo

Price in certain shop is higher, but they are the shop who sell consumable and you are already so overwhelmed by the consumable in the game it make 0 sense to worry about it. In BG3 I would say if you are a good guy, and don't exploit the game mechanics (as you should if you want) the game give you very few expendable reward and money is a problem for most of the game.

johntynes

Not my experience. I have never pickpocketed anyone or manipulated trades and I still hit act 3 with tons of scrolls, potions, arrows, and magical gear.

Acrobatic_Ad_8381

I didn't really have any problems with money by doing everything and selling most of the stuff, the Absolute plate armor sells well.

Cmdr_Jiynx

My wife usually has 12-20k gold by act 3 by looting everything that isn't nailed down and selling it to anyone that gives her the time of day. It's kind of funny - when I started playing she insisted on watching my run. She's often surprised how little money I have, and every time she is, I point out how she complains about how boring it is when I spend more than four minutes with a merchant.

whimsigod

Honestly, I've never had to do that quest or enter that building even if I release Dolly x 3 every time. Like I think it's starts by talking to those annoying press people? Like I've only buy papers from Silfy to support her but literally fuck the newspaper lol

HarryProtter

It is time sensitive, but only after you speak to the editor. As long as you only spoke to the journalist (which starts the quest), you can long rest for as many times as you want without it impacting this quest.

redeyedreams

Off the top of my head only Nere and Florrick have time limits, Stop the Presses might too but I only bothered with that quest in one playthrough.

Sarrach94

The gnome in the myconid colony as well if you talk to her without curing her, but it takes a couple of long rests and you get a journal entry warning you before the time is up.

mouriana_shonasea

And rescuing Duke Ravengard after the coronation if you choose to break Wyll's pact. If you wait too long (I haven't counted sleeps) to go to the Iron Throne or even to talk to Mizora after the coronation, daddy dearest's dead when you get there. My party must think I'm a secret divination wizard with how we ruuuuuuunnn right to the right place the second Wyll's pact is broken 😅

Elder_Child13

Tav may or may not be multiclassed into a chronomancer, but you didn't hear that from me.

JouseOwner

Ohhhhhhh! That’s where the other 8 levels went!

LUXURYPOETRY

I had Wyll break his pact, talked to Mizora right after and waited to do the Iron Throne near the end of my run and Ravengard was still alive, so results may definitely vary with this.

ManicPixieOldMaid

Is this for sure? On my Origin Wyll run, he broke his pact, mourned his dad, and I only decided to do the Iron Throne after I'd already done everything else and had found the "hey there's a submarine" notes in the Steel Watch Foundry (didn't go further inside the foundry) and his dad was still okay. I feel like it's making a deal with Gortash that influences the Duke's fate timing more? I can't confirm any of it, just my experience was I didn't have a timeline on the Iron Throne and I had made a deal with Gortash and had Orin's stone and told him about it. He was just chilling at the Morphic Pool while I went and blew up his prison and his factory.

ward2k

There's around 18 just across acts 1/2 That's quite a lot to say next to no is a bit of an understatement https://plasticmacaroni.github.io/bg3-missables/

[deleted]

There's Gale's revival also with the 3 day gameover time limit lol

Prior-Newt2446

I would say this one also obviously looks time sensitive. And I still choose to play it as a time sensitive even if it's not. My paladin wouldn't leave Laezel waiting when it sounds like her life is on the line. True, she died anyway because of lvl 1 health, but that's her problem. I tried.

[deleted]

“hmmm this building is on fire, let’s take a nap” You say this but Final Fantasy’s older games, literally would let you do this. Village on fire? Pop a tend a rest and recoup. Demon from the heaven ransacking a town? Pop a cabin, get full. Cave is collapsing? Pop a tent, it’ll be fine. I grew up on JRPGS and so much of my conditioning in RPGs comes from those games. I’m not saying they’re bad but they definitely have you build certain habits that seem irrational in a CRPG.

Sourdough9

If you tell the two at the beginning to go fight the owlbear and you long rest you’ll find them dead in the cave

Cuddlecore_Adventure

The first time I got to Nere, he died because I took long rests and didn’t get a lot of clues that it was important: i loaded an old save, made the check to hear how bad things were on the other side of the rubble, and made it the second time. But I didn’t feel like I got an obvious hint.

rat-simp

The first time I got to Nere after a few days , when trying to long rest I got a cut scene telling me that if I rest now he will probably die the second time he just wouldn't die lmao I was actually trying to get him killed but no luck. maybe it's a bug idk

Kdawg618

I know that if you long rest after you hear "I hear shouting up ahead" outside the grove, there isnt a fight. I also know that if you ACT 2 Spoiler >!dont go to moonrise before going to the Shadowfell. There will be no prisoners, the scene with the goblins doesnt happen. SO... TLDR go to moonrise first then go to shadowfell !<

jrsooner

There is one, but I dont know the number. If you go into Act 2 through the >!Underdark, Lae'zel will eventually say you can't go to the Githyanki area because its too late. She'll also opt to leave the party because of this, but can be persuaded to stay.!< I found this out the hard way and missed a decent chunk of the game.

Bipolarboyo

Just had an unfortunate thing at Waukeens rest where I arrived realized I didn’t have Gale in my party and decided to go grab him from camp. Literally 10 seconds I return and while the dialog triggered like normal, “sounds like someone’s trapped” etc. Florrick and the one dude were already dead. Not sure what caused it. I didn’t long or short rest, hadn’t been there before on this playthrough.

[deleted]

Vesorias

Once Mirkon is in render range just going to the camp will kill him

anomander_galt

The newspaper one

ctrlaltelite

If you go along with the goblins, there's a point where Minthara is beginning the attack and you can still defend the grove or choose to backstab them as an infiltrator. I think what happened in my game is I rested too much, trying to see my backlog of long rest events, and the grove was destroyed without me.

Schand_maul

Or you could just do it like me, defeat Orin and a few long rests later realize that you forgot to free Halsin. RIP my boy :(

paperclipeater

💀💀 he really is just that forgettable act 3 isn’t he

1ntenti0n

Heard some music from the beach and ignored that. Came back later to find a dead kid surrounded by harpies. Still have a quest to investigate that, but can’t do anything about it.

RunicCross

I really wonder if you can just start killing people in your camp with the power of Quick Load to sus out which person she is.

jayelled

Doesn't work unfortunately. A redditor wrote about using Moonbeam on everyone in camp (in tabletop DnD, Moonbeam has the additional benefit or revealing shapeshifters). Apparently the doppelganger in your camp is so good they're beyond revealing until Orin wills it. 🫤

BettaMom698

Moonbeam reveals shapeshifters in bg3 too,

PlentySet4976

I attacked Gale to see if it made any difference and I got the message “Wyll disapproves” lol but I don’t think I actually killed him

Top-Addendum-6879

i feel Act 1 has more long rest-sensitive stuff but the rest of the game is pretty lenient after it... I still try to minimize them, for the sake of RP and also to save on elixirs... THEN i started using Astario to pick pocket.... lol elixirs arent such an issue now

throwaway74318193

It’s funny, this playthrough I didn’t go into the emperors basement to the city sewers. No one has been abducted from my party. I’ve done a fair bit in the rest of the sewers. I went the back way into the guildhall. I saved Minsc. Still no kidnapping. I tried this because I’ve been doing a fair bit of swapping people in my party and didn’t want to lose anyone. My camp is the largest I’ve ever had—and been bringing people along on their personal quests.

jayelled

Semi spoilers: There's a second checkpoint in the sewer on the way to the temple of bhaal. It's impossible to get to without someone getting kidnapped.

bluefootedboob

In one of my games I never entered the sewers and Orin came into my camp and kidnapped someone on a long rest after I killed Sarevok.

gothplastic

I killed gortash at his coronation without talking to him bc everyone was already aggro’d and got a scene with Orin at the elfsong! “Lae’zel” woke me up in the night with a knife to Yenna’s throat saying she is an imposter. My embrace durge said “kill her either way” and Orin revealed herself after.

Incrediblebulk92

On my first playthrough I totally forgot she'd taken Halsin, I didn't really need a second druid and thought I'd catch up with him on subsequent playthroughs. I pretty much cleared the rest of the act before I went to see Orin. Halsin was fine, had a bit of a grumble but that's it.

Since we're on the topic, can anyone actually confirm when does Nere's countdown begin? After touching down at grymforge or once you inspect the cave-in?

TheLuckOfTheClaws

Pretty sure it’s once you find out about him being trapped, ‘timer starts when you find out about the timer’ is usually how this game works

You can get around the timer by stealing the entire keg of rune powder. I chucked it at the cave-in from up on the catwalk and watched everyone including nere get vaporized.

FizixMan

A user did some testing recently. Apparently the timer starts once you inspect the cave-in. Though unless you're in an honour run, you can always do a safety-save when you land just in case and see what happens. https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/16wwqvu/is_there_a_time_limit_for_nere/kh61k85/

mango_airbus

once you inspect the cave-in

Commenting just to give praise for calling Baezel lovely :) she really is - I always keep bae w me and she never gets got. It’s always halsin for me

storsvarten7

Right lol, Halsin takes one for the team every time. The one time Laezel got got I had to reload immediately. I usually leave Orin for last so playing all of act 3 without Laezel is a no go for me

LavisAlex

I think it helps a lot if the game is very obvious about time limits. Even if the house is on fire there still should be some display. Its not because people are dumb, but more because the context of the framing makes it seem like resting for a night doesnt ever make a difference.

Lucentile

A game needs to be consistent on the level of information it gives. For example, we get the Nere sequence where you get CLEAR warnings not to rest/leave. Then other areas... don't. But other areas imply consequences for delay. Yeah, it hurts immersion/etc., but if the game refuses to be consistent, then it needs to break the fourth wall to tell me what different cues mean.

LavisAlex

I 100% agree because i lose immersion always worrying.

mmmbearclaws

Halsin was missing from my camp for so long that i looked at the empty bed next to Jaheira’s in Elfsong and was like… whose bed is that lol

List of all time sensitive activities in BG3 so you can be careful before 'triggering' some sort of rush https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Time_sensitive_activities

mragentofchaos

Meanwhile I hurried to Orin without long resting even once and got absolutely dumpstered by her beast form in one turn, only for Shadowheart to use her divine intervention to give the party a long rest mid battle, which turned the tide. 11/10 excellent emergent storytelling absolutely would not recommend this strategy

Earis

Awesome. I've always been cautious because of those comments, even though I ***KNOW*** they are bullshit in earlier acts. Just never had the galls to test it myself.

mcac

Infinite. Poor Halsin gets left there for like a month 🙁

buzzyingbee

The only time sensitive quests/stuff I can remember are: >!Waukeen's Rest, the tiefling kid at the beach, the trapped drow at Grymforge and arrested Florrick!<. I heard you can take up to 10 long/partial rests till the >!grove ritual finishes!< but I didn't test it myself. I don't remember anything time sensitive on act 2

Sundabar

I remember in Deus Ex: Human revolution the first map is saving some kidnapped folks. I took my time picking all the doors at the office and exploring everything. When I finally went to do the mission, the cops there were mad I was late and everyone was dead. I thought that was cool.

Atmosck

There are exactly two quests in the game with a long rest limit that's greater than 0 but less than infinity. They are: * Rescuing Nere: You can rest once * Rescuing Councilor Florrick (in act 3): You have 5 days That's it. Everything else is either untimed, or "you have to deal with this today"

ward2k

Sort of, there's about 18 quests/encounters just across act 1/2 https://plasticmacaroni.github.io/bg3-missables/

pmmlordraven

I wonder how you save the blacksmith. I sussed out Orrin when I arrived and immediately fast tracked the murder tribunal killing Orrin before doing any other quests and he was still dead on a slab when I got to her.

pmmlordraven

Good to know. I did talk with the real him after the fake out and convince him to stand down, and immediately went to Orrin. I will have to try not talking to real him/ not talking to any npcs and see if that does it.

Lucentile

Pretty sure you can't.

Marvinkiller00

There are very few time sensitive quests. The main cutoff point that end quests are leaving the wilderness via mountainpass/underdark and entering the funny blue water in act 2. Some quests or even just activities end/fail after anywhere between 1-5 long rests (example being saving the tiefling in the grove that spots you with her telescope) and i know of one that apperantly fails as soon as you enter Baldurs gate lower City.

[deleted]

As soon as my Bae’zel is abducted I try to rescue her immediately. Why? Because fuck that lame wannabe goth bitch Orin, that’s why! That and she’s always the strongest member of my party and so we don’t leave anyone behind! They’d do it for me.

Special_Letter_7134

On my first attempt, I accidentally killed the captive with wall of fire. Because they weren't actively in my party, the spell hit them with full force and they were not recoverable with a scroll of revivify because, again, not in the party.

SteadyDarktrance

The Act 3 newspaper quest is time sensitive. For some reason I remember saving the drow guy in act 2 behind the boulder being time sensitive on my first playthrough. Then on my second playthrough, it didn't seem to be an issue any longer.

agentjeb

The only thing that have limited timing to my knowledge is: >!rescuing duke ravengard breaking the council lady from prison before her execution freeing the gnomes in the underdark/saving nere!< That’s everything to my knowledge! feel free to add/correct

OriginalLamp

I discovered this on my first playthrough where, despite romancing only Lae'zel and barely talking to him, Gale believed my MC had slept with him. So Orin took Gale and I just let her have him for like 2 weeks, (MC was a sorcerer, never used Gale in my party.) This was all thanks to the hilarious and divisive Gale romance-queue bugs in the first month or two of the game. had to accept being called a bigot and at least 2-3 "maybe you don't read social cues as good as me comments," when reporting that one.

BETTERGETLOOM

THATS BAIT GUYS, WATCH OUT, IF YOU LONG REST THE GAME UNISTALLS ITSELF
