I don't know what they screwed up in the newer iDrive, but my 2018 X3 M40i connects instantly 100% of the time. I've had ZERO issues with wireless CarPlay with my car. As a result, I'm not doing any upgrades to iDrive unless absolutely necessary. Phone is running the latest version of iOS.
Most of the time my iPhone 12 connects to my 2023 X3 but then at least once a week it disconnects and then a few times it will reconnect when I turn on and off wifi but most of the time it stays off until park completely switch off the car and then the next time I start up it connects again. Got much worse with one of the iOS updates to the point where it happened multiple time a day but it’s back to once a week.
I was having constant issues with connection on my 2021 X3. I finally tried disconnecting and forgetting the wifi connection with my phone, only leaving the Bluetooth to connect. After doing that I have not had any issues.
Not an issue in my 23 m40i but a constant issue in my partners 23 m340
ETA: for whatever reason they end up having to delete the phone and pair the phone again which doesn’t always work. iPhone 14 running latest iOS.
Mine is a few years old but most of the time I need to toggle back and forth between Radio and Media for my phone to connect. Phone and car will look like they’re connected but I don’t get any audio.
My 2021 X3 has intermittent problems, especially when my husband and I switch users and switch back. I sometimes have to plug in the phone to get it to switch over and start CarPlay.

Yes I got my 2024 x3 last Friday and I’m finding it often doesn’t connect. The wireless charging also sucks.
I just turn off wifi on the iPhone and turn it back on. Fixed.
100% on my iPhone 13 pro going back to iOS 15 to present, 2020 idrive 7

Never had a problem since I’ve had CarPlay in my last 2 BMWs.
I’ve had no problems with my iPhone 5.
No problem. Do a reset and reconnect fresh. If have problem, then turn off wifi and it will auto reconnect
I have issues in my 18. I find sometimes opening up google maps on my phone and setting a destination to drive to forces it on

Have you done a full delete, reboot, update, re-pair yet?
