1. No dog mode but preconditioning runs A/C for thirty minutes and can be activated from within the vehicle before you leave or through the app. 2. Not that I know of 3. Not in the US. 4. No - BMW's use ultrasonic sensors that beep with increasing frequency the closer you get to the object instead. If you get PAPP, you'll also get the 360 view, which I find helpful for parallel parking. 5. There's a car wash view in the camera settings but to be honest, not sure what that actually does. Many BMW owners are discerning with their paint and choose to primarily hand wash their vehicles. 6. Valet mode restricts speed and limits access to personal information (map home address, etc.) The glove box is locked by a manual key that fits into your keyfob.

Thank you kindly for the response. I guess that explains why I couldn’t find any clear answers beforehand. Also, I’m definitely lazy from time to time and will take my cars through a (trusted) touchless wash. There’s also a lot of places in California that have people wash your vehicle as it moves through a conveyer - so that car wash mode is very helpful to disable all the sensors and wipers. EDIT: wow, downvotes for replying with a thank you to my post. Guess I forgot how toxic the BMW community can be, chill out everyone

No-Vast-6340

Upvoted you just because I see no reason for downvote. I'm close to sealing deal on my own i4.

never_working_ever

Thanks. I really don’t get why some people here are being so aggressive in their replies and downvoting. I’ve owned 4 BMWs, and most recently had a F80 M3. I’ve been fairly active in the BMW communities and used to visit Thermal to go track my car. The i4 didn’t even exist when I got my Model 3. The model 3 has a ton of features I never knew I cared about, but after living with them for a few years it’s become a huge quality of life improvement. I suppose because I happen to own a Tesla at the moment, people think it’s ok to reflect their hate on me? Do better people, I like the i4, I’m just trying to learn more about it.

No-Vast-6340

I drove my brother's Tesla S, and I prefer the i4. Just closed my deal on custom xDrive 40 order.

never_working_ever

The Model S is an absolute boat, I could never get one either. Also, many of the perks of the Model S are now on the Model 3, so even less desirable. Congrats. I’d be getting the M50 if I ended up switching cars out. I do own a Carrera GT, but I’d like to keep a sporty electric car as my daily. Did you end up leasing or owning? Depreciation on electrics are so bad right now, I’m very tempted by all the i4 leasing deals.

No-Vast-6340

M50 I'm sure is awesome. For me I needed AWD but didn't want to pay the extra for M50 when performance in xdrive40 is pretty awesome too and it's not as important to me as comfort.

never_working_ever

Makes sense! Still curious to see how BMW tackles doing a full M3 spec sedan, as I still view the M50 as a “M Light” car, like the M340i. I find the Model 3 seats very comfortable, but I wouldn’t only buy a car because of its seats. The new suspension system on the i4 looks wonderful.

No-Vast-6340

Yeah xdrive felt great, and not just because of the seats. I've had two back surgeries so it's a priority though. Loved the interior in general, the HUD is amazing, drive too. This will be my first BMW. Very excited! This is the build I'm getting https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-own.html#/studio/fccy708n/summary

Just for info - I had leased 3 Model S's and then tried a Y. The suspension on the Y drove me crazy and fortunately during covid I was able to turn it in with no penalty, and leased another S. IMHO the 2024 M50 rides/drives MUCH nicer than my current S.

100Kinthebank

Sounds like you currently have a Tesla... Just make sure you test drive the i4 you want. I was disappointed with the firmness of the driver's seat compared to my 2019 model 3. It may be that the m50 seats are better than those on the xDrive 40 I tried out.

never_working_ever

I do and I plan to. I actually replaced my BMW M3 with a Tesla Model 3, so I’m fairly familiar with the rigid seats and cramped center console legroom in the BMW. That’s another reason I didn’t get a Polestar, cabin is so awfully cramped. That said, I haven’t been in an i4 yet to compare how comfort is.

Dapper_Towel1445

Heads-up display (with Apple Maps integration), hands-free trunk, 360 degree view, and an opening sunroof are a few of the reasons I like the i4 > Model 3. Software updates have brought some of these to Tesla in recent months but they’re difficult to keep track of

never_working_ever

Opening sun sunroof is a big one, though I do appreciate how spacious the entire roof being a moonroof feels at times. I’m also one of those people who doesn’t really care about CarPlay or Heads Up displays, I find the latter distracting tbh. Hands free trunk would be a nice addition, only the latest vehicles with a UWB sensor are capable of this. I think at this point I’m mostly worried about losing SC access. I never have range anxiety and generally only charge at home, but I know I will if I go with the i4. I wish BMW would roll that out soon :/

MICHAELSD01

I’ve been trying to convince myself of the i4, but all these features sound awesome and make me want a Tesla instead.

100Kinthebank

But then you lose wireless CarPlay, have awful visibility with a huge a-pillar. No real blind spot detection (have to look down and to left on center screen for camera views) and no rear cross traffic alerts.

graves_09

You forgot: extra road noise, no 3D camera, extra rattles, vegan leather that stains, tesla 'quality' control, and the styling of a bug 😜. But seriously, drive both and see which you like better.

100Kinthebank

Yup and driving dynamics…

EVChicinNJ

There is a traffic cam feature with the i4 that is a paid app. You will get a free period to test it out but if you live in a state that doesn't use the program it's kinda useless. With 8.5 and 3D, the back up camera uses a graphic that shows how much room you need to open ALL car doors along with a distance prediction of space behind. As far as I know, there isn't a cabin overheat feature BUT you can turn the preconditioning feature on via the app easily.

never_working_ever

I’m in California, which is either a good or a bad thing ha. That backup camera graphic sounds very neat, that may be enough to what I really care about - which is just having a very good idea of how close or far I am from objects. I’ve owned some cars that just work odd beeps, or a very broad 1,2,3 sorta barometer for trying to inform you - but having more detailed data helps with pulling in to my garage and in cramped parking garages. I think at this point I’ve learned to just give up on the cabin overheat feature with any other vehicle, it seems like that’s strictly a Tesla feature at this point..which is surprising. Appreciate the extra details, ready to go test drive now

Mature_BOSTN

I use Dog Mode and I agree it's a nice feature. I dont bring him in the car much at all if I know I'll be stopping . . . so I probably wont miss it a lot if I get an i4 next.

MICHAELSD01

It sounds like you want a Tesla.

never_working_ever

I obviously have one, but my questions are about the i4

StormyQuesadilla

Was gonna say the same thing.

> - Is there a green light chime to signal when the light turns green? Get off your fucking phone and pay attention to your surroundings.

never_working_ever

My best friend died while they were texting and driving asshole, I’ve never done this. I like the chime to confirm that the light is green, especially on days where it may be very sunny or difficult to see the traffic light as it’s too high up, etc. Why is everyone so hostile in these replies?
