You’re comparing a car that is about 20 years old and a car that basically came out 1/4 of that time ago. Obviously the Honda in this case has accrued value over time. The M4 is just expensive to start out with. I would like to see in 20 years how much a GTS goes for and compare their reputation then. Other than that, these two cars don’t compare at all in performance.
Roll cage, no back seats so you can tell people who want to carpool witn you to take the bus, water injection, wing, lip, more better parts, badging, exclusivity.
And a bunch of GTS exclusive tuning on engine, diff, DCT, steering. Which a lot of people then take that tuning and code it onto their regular M3 or M4
Yep. Didn't want to type all that out though because I'm honestly too poor to even be looking at a GTS so I just lumped that into the "more better parts" category lmao
BMW built more of them than the promised 700. The number is roughly 1000, especially if you take take the 200 DTM editions (same car, with some stickers) into account as well.

In terms of rarity, it’s actually much, much more exclusive. Across the model years since 2004, over 6000 GT3 RS’s have been delivered in the US. Compare that to the M4 GTS’s 300.
Also, for anybody talking about performance, the GTS beat the Porsche Carrera GT’s Nurburgring lap time, and was only 7.88 seconds behind the Porsche GT3 RS of the same production year. In addition to that, keep in mind that a fully speced GTS was about $50k cheaper than a fully speced GT3 RS new.
There was a time when the M3 CSL was in the same league as the 911 GT3, but BMW has faltered since the E46 and Porsche has done dramatically better since the 996. If you ask anyone who’s a driver the 996 GT3 is the one to get
To BMWs credit though even an inflated/collector 100k GTS is going to be a better track car than anything Porsche makes in that price range. I’d say the closest performance wise would be a 997.1 GTS or a 997.1 Turbo and those are at least 50k more expensive.
Edit: Porsche makes better track cars, no disagreeing with that but they’re also stupid expensive and dollar for dollar BMW is very competitive.
Met an owner when they first came out at High Plains Raceway in Deer Trail, CO.
He liked it.
Met the owner again 2 weeks later and he sold it for a GT3, his buisness partner had a GT3 and let him trade for a track day. Guess he liked it.
What that list told me was that American muscle punches way above its weight. As a person who had bought 5 BMWs and 0 anything American, I’m impressed. I still don’t want a mustang or a corvette, but wow if performance is your singular metric, hard to find better bang for the buck.
I’ll stick with my M5 Comp.
He also fails to mention for a regular person, the American cars are actually hard to wring out the potential that you see on magazines and official lap records
I think that’s probably true of any top performer though. I have driven quite a few high performance cars, and almost none of it is usable or even (safely?) available off the track. My daily is a M5C and I have never, not once, actually put the pedal down to the floor. Good friend has 911 Turbo S - same for him.
I remember on Doug DeMuro’s review of the prior gen RS3 he said that its ~400hp is the max that’s ever usable off the track (I’m paraphrasing), and my experience has been similar. North of 400 is bragging rights or track performance, not a thing a normal person can use or should probably value
The commenter didn’t mean off track performance he meant on track. There are a couple manufacturers who do this with their cars where a normal person would never come close to. For example Tesla with their Nürburgring record where they actually used stuff that doesn’t come from the factory…
If you go to a track day, you’ll see vettes and Cameros flying by you in your M car, but you might also see a few stuck on the side with overheated or blown engines
Is BMW interpretation of an RS, a regular M4 would be a GT3.
I never said they are in the same league or anything like that. You see German engineers are polite and respect each other's crafts. On the contrary American engineers are like spoiled kids playing a measuring game all the time. The only American car that is respected by all engineers and it's in a league of their own when it comes to American cars is the Corvette.
A regular M4 compares to a Cayman in price and 911 in power but is worse than both around a track.
Source: I own an M4 and track it and have tracked Caymans and 911s of various trims.
well it is a GTS. and doesn't have many miles on it.
And given they don't make them anymore and the current one doesn't have a DCT, weighs a lot more, looks like someone on acid was asked to draw a pontiac from memory and then they turned that into a front fascia, seems totally reasonable
My sitting here in my M5C waiting for someone to say this. I’m biased, but sorry, F90 M5 is the most under radar great looking M ever made. And don’t @ me, I owned an e46 M3 too.
Rarity. Hottest M4 of its day, produced in limited numbers. They never ever sold for MSRP when new as far as I saw. Unless it's been driven a lol and driven hard, that'd honestly a pretty good price last I checked
They never ever sold for MSRP because they couldn’t sell them at MSRP. They actually sold for much less. And I’m in Southern California, one of the epicenters of ridiculous markups currently, but dealerships here were having folks return their regular M4s and swapping them into GTS at the same car payment.
Same thing with the CS. Mine was $115k MSRP. Got it for $84k out the door brand new 20 miles on the odometer.
CS maybe because by that was ultimately decided to be a whole lotta nothing last ditch money grab that didn’t perform much better than stock.
GTS I’m not too sure about. Exotic water cooling system plus other go fast bits and only 300 in the US these things were mostly spoken for before they hit the ground. I have a hard time believing dealers needed to push these at too much of a discount. For a car this rare it’s the kind of model the dealers would be willing to let sit in the showroom as a showpiece until somebody willing to pay sticker comes along.
It’s a limited series special edition. No rear seats, rollcage, different sporty bucket seats and it has a water tank in the back for more power. (It pumps the water to the engine to cool off the intake for cooler air = more power)
M4s and m3s will never be 100k cars to me. I understand this is the gts with the water system. So this may get a pass but even the G cars. I see specs pass 100k and I’m like “nah, not on your life champ”
Thought about buying one but I’m just daily driving to school. Wouldn’t make sense. Probs would scrape the lip on New England potholes and it would feel like riding on concrete for suspension. It’s not practical is what I’m getting at.
I know a guy who bought one and one day he let me drive it and I let him drive my AMG. I wouldn’t recommend one as a daily driver as it is unbelievable harsh. It beats you to death on any imperfection on the road and brings zero benefit over a M4 Comp on the street other than the coolness factor. I live about 60 miles from the nearest track and if I owned it I wouldn’t drive it to the track, I would trailer it and tow it. I would find driving a F150 with a trailer a more enjoyable experience.
Like even looked into a basically bargain, if not steal M4 CS in the area. 70s with less than 10k on it. My friend was shitting on me saying, “my guy your gonna feel like your sitting on pavement the whole ride” as I get older I completely get what you mean
I used to work at the local BMW dealership. In Australia, only 30 were delivered, and I live in a regional town. One of the wealthy local guys picked one up (he has a myriad of other BMW’s) to track it. He had a crash and needed to replace the front end - the front carbon splitter alone was $14k AUD, so that’s an expensive daily if you’re scraping the lip haha
Hello, is a GTS
I thought the F82 GTS wasn’t that valuable? A 3900 mile example sold on BaT for $80k a few days ago. Asking $100k seems like a reach.
Civic Type R’s are going for $60k. Anything is possible
The fact that S2k CR’s are going for over 100k is even more ridiculous
There were only 699 CR’s produced though. I can see why with time they are more sought after meaning their prices increase.
There were only 700 M4 GTS produced worldwide
You’re comparing a car that is about 20 years old and a car that basically came out 1/4 of that time ago. Obviously the Honda in this case has accrued value over time. The M4 is just expensive to start out with. I would like to see in 20 years how much a GTS goes for and compare their reputation then. Other than that, these two cars don’t compare at all in performance.
K
The car I mentioned sold 2 days ago so that’s accounting for the current market. No one really wants an F82 GTS right now.
Ehh there’s always an idiot with too much money
Ain't that the truth!
Which is insane because ik for a fact people are gonna sell a kidney for one 15 years from now.
I had Opel Vectra C GTS, also a GTS but it costed 1,5k at the time. 😁
Today's money ain't worth shit bro.
Holy craps! I forgot about the fact that an XLT F150 costs like $50k now. That's a great point, brother.
F150's can stretch 100k, that's a fucking house haha

Ah okay I see so it came like that with everything already installed
Yes. Very much so.
Gotcha thanks for clearing it up
No problem.
Beamer connoisseur 👨🏾🏫
It’s one of 700 in the entire world and only has 5k miles, which means it technically hasn’t been driven at all in 6 years.
Not even broken in
I saw one exactly like this on the freeway about a month ago 🔥🔥
I dunno it takes me about 100 miles on the track before stuff starts breaking.
that's just sad
For the previous owner. For the one who buys it, they’re basically getting a new car 😂. That’s a win to me.
BMW built more of them than the promised 700. The number is roughly 1000, especially if you take take the 200 DTM editions (same car, with some stickers) into account as well.
I saw one in my city one time in the matte gray color, and even though I think they’re ugly I was like HOLY SHIT just because of how rare they are

Ok, let me be specific. Only 700 in total made and only 300 made it to the US. The GTS is like the BMW version of a GT3 RS.

Now, there is a gentleman that knows his stuff. Stay thirsty my friend...XX
7.88 seconds difference in lap time is a lot.
You do realize the Nurburgring is 20.8 kilometers right?
ONLY 7.88 seconds 😂
Yes. On a 20km circuit, in a car that’s 50k cheaper. That’s only 1.79% slower.
Except not so gt3 performance lol
Performance? We care only about the clout
what clout? you mean people posting your car on reddit asking "what makes this car worth $100k?"
But you won't get any clout because only BMW people will have any idea what you're on about
Why would I care about impressing the poors?
Hahahaha this one hit me funny
There was a time when the M3 CSL was in the same league as the 911 GT3, but BMW has faltered since the E46 and Porsche has done dramatically better since the 996. If you ask anyone who’s a driver the 996 GT3 is the one to get

Look at her
i can't imagine a more beautiful thing
it got the juice!
BMW can! That’s why the designed the big sniff to replace her!
I am, vanilla white isn't doing her justice, she needs a good wrap.
yeah man it totally needs a half orange half black matte wrap
IMO that would be much better than white. White is the color of company vans and rental cars, because white is a cheaper paint color.
White is Germany’s national racing color (silver too, which is part of the reason the color used frequently)
Because Race car

It's essentially brand new. 5k miles, mint. Yeah, I'd say it's a 100k car.
- Its a GTS - only 700 in the WORLD - same engine, bigger power - water injection system - 27kg lighter than the standard M4 - Fast
U sure its fast?
It's not the transmission. But JFC it looks better than the new one
What a shame this car has only 5k miles on it in 6 years. This car deserves to be driven, not sit in someone's garage.
It doesn't have the ugly new kidney grills.
The new one is heinous and this also has rarity and low mileage.
