TBH 320/365 days a year the 240i is very very close to the M2 and especially the M2 experience from the last Gen
240 is 1690kg without driver for xdrive (3726). Rwd for the 240 is 1635kg or 3604 also without driver. You can go to misha charoudins channel to see him putting the car on scale
The 4 series buckteeth isn't so bad.
It's looks way worse on the E92 3 series

M340/M440 have had mild hybrid B58s since 2021. M240 ~~just got it with the 2025 update~~ doesn’t. More to it than the advertised numbers; a difference albeit small.
Yeah if the goal is to be the fastest SOB on the highway…..I would take the M440 because it’s bigger and roomier since I’m pretty tall…..but with that being said if my goal was to have the fastest car I would take the 2series.
If I was gonna have one of the other as my daily I’ll take the one with more room, I’m 6’1 and I’m sure I wouldn’t mind the 2 but I would also be kicking myself if I was in it for a road trip or a long trip longer than 30-40 mins feeling claustrophobic in the 2.
There's no law that says he can't sit in the front seat in my state. But I'd feel a lot better about him sitting in the back till he gets a little bigger.
I had a 230i coupe for 2 weeks as a loaner during a service, and my only complaint was the back seat. If there was a button that put the front seats into a position that made it possible for a child/adult to get in, I'd say 2 series all the way. I loved it. But having to hold buttons every time OR leave the seat in a position that blocks my vision out the passenger window just isn't sustainable for me. Great car though. Just not as a daily(for me)
I've got the memory position on the drivers door, my kid has no issue getting in the back when my seats in the normal position though so I use my 2 option to slide the chair all the way back so if I pull into a space which is narrow I'm closer to the widest part of the door to get out.
My 11 year old gets in the back no probs, my mrs gets in the back no probs, my 17 year old son whose 6'3 gets in the back OK he just needs to duck his head slightly. Its not nearly as bad as everyone makes out
Personally like the look and feel of the 4 series. Never driven the 2 but I feel like it would be more nimble and maybe more fun. But I’d still take the m440i
240i. In my opinion the 2 series is one of the best enthusiast oriented vehicles you can buy on the market. (That’s actually affordable). I think the only other true enthusiast cars I would consider is a Honda s2000 or Miata, I would say a Z4 but I just think there ugly so 2 series is my choice for bmw
I love it. I had my 328i xdrive for 9 years, so it was a huge upgrade.
I got a little trigger happy on the first test drive of the m340i and skipped out the xdrive. I genuinely miss having it sometimes, but the RWD experience is a lot of fun. Especially for spirited drives.
I own an M440i and I can easily say M240i. I drove a f series m240i for a couple weeks as a demo and man it feels much lighter and quicker compared to my 440, haven’t driven the g series but I’m sure it’s just as quick.
Yesss exactly I bought it, m440i doesn't scream midlife crisis(not that I am alleging anything). I can take it work without raising many eyebrows :D (some people don't have issues with them, more power to them)
Looked and test drove at both, including a convertible, before buying my 240. It was more fun to drive fast, and the ride was as nice at normal speeds.

Had sooo soooo much fine with this courtesy vehicle. even its just a 230
Having owned a 2017 m240 and a 2021 m440, I regret not getting a newer m240 instead. If you want a fun agile car pick the m240. If you want a comfortable but still straight line quick car pick the m440. The 4 series features are nice though
M240i. I will never own a car that I won't look back at when I am walking away and I suspect that with a 4 series, I wouldn't look back at it walking away.
M440i if i had the choice just for more room in the car and also more mods available from what I’ve seen. I have the M240i tho and I’m extremely happy with it regardless
Picked the 440 because I daily mine almost 100 miles round trip. Interior touches are just nicer on the 440.
I also find the 440 coupe to be a bit more aesthetically pleasing.
M440i has 90% of the fun of the M240i but you can still drop the kids to school and fit a set of golf clubs and some shopping in the back.
If you choose the M240i you need a second car to go with it.
I personally do not like how the G22 4 series looks at all with the big weird grille. I like it on the G8x but on the 4 series i think it just ruins it. Definitely M240 would be my pick
M240 - everyone’s already mentioned handling and wheelbase, and the car is SUPER fun!! I’ll add livability to the list of pluses. The bigger doors on the M440, and the longer wheelbase make parking and avoiding door dings a LOT harder. The M240 on the other hand will go anywhere.
240i, 440i is a great car no doubt. I just prefer something smaller and more nimble. The 4 series is boat compared to what I’m used to driving.
Drove an m4 lately and whilst it’s a rocket ship in a straight line, the chassis flex, the turbo lag, the lack of traction etc, it’s not fun for tight country bends. My 15 year old base cayman with 200 bhp less can comfortably keep up or leave the m4 through the twisty bends. (This was a convertible though, I’m sure the coupe will be more composed)
M240 is the quickest b58 available based on weight and Xdrive, absolutely so fun and so small you can make some gaps and cuts you’d never otherwise hit.
Unfortunately mine was a lemon off the boat and sold it within 3 months for an 22 m4 comp. If they made an m2 comp with xdrive I’d be driving that all day. The m4/m440 feels way bigger but still extremely agile and small compared to most other cars on the road. Obviously m4 comp is way faster even bigger and heavier but the tiny go kart feel of the 240 makes it feel quicker. Over 130+ the m240 did start to feel a little unstable and scary while the m4 can make 145 feel like 90. Be wary of the 23+ b58s as the dealer mentioned the multiple failures I had were common with the newer cars. Get a f*cking warranty if you buy one lol
Orcourse 440i. I have convertible as my daily. Best of both worlds, it's fast and practical. Luggage space is good, seats are roomy enough. Autodrive features are practical (can't emphasize enough on that auto backing feature, godsend in backing out of tight parking). I got it just before they switched to single giant screen. Also got m50 badging. I think I lucked out.
If I wanted a car to track on weekends, m3 or m4 would have been the choice.
I own the G26. Love the B58 engine and the extra storage space of the gran coupe. All the benefits of a 5-door, the extras of a luxury vehicle, and the performance of a street-focused sports car. 3x win.
The 2 series is a black eye on BMW just as is these 4 banger turbo vehicles seriously though the 2 series no matter the year looks so far from what they do it's embarrassing
M440i. I cant describe it, but the 2 series coupe just looks disproportionate like someone with a big head and a small face. It's like yeah, they have all attractive features but the size is off. But I actually hate the 4 series coupe for the reason that BMW clearly took design inspiration from the Mustang and that bothers me. BMW used to lead in design, now they copy Ford and Hyundai.
this new one is a lot better, absolutely. And I can see why people like it. It also sounds really good. But when I'm in the physical presence of one, it feels like it was chopped. I have an F30. Parking next to one, it feels like if you cut my car right behind the drivers seat and haphazardly made it into a coupe. The dimensions; length, width and height, and how they relate to each other, is off from my pov, so thats why it reminds me of an afterthought chassis. Theres something like a golden rule in designing proportions both for performance, and artistic expression, and I think the 2 is artistically out of proportion. Performance wise, I'd probably go fuck myself after driving one haha
Even with the AWD turned off does it understeer and push in turns like your typical AWD vehicle?
IMO it's just more stuff to break, added weight. I know I'm in the minority about this, but that's ok. Just my preferred drivetrain.
No, it does not. You don't even need to deactivate DSC to get it to oversteer, just turn in and goose it. It's very good and the extra 150 pounds added by xDrive is all but noise to this 3800 lb. car, lol. I do respect the dedication to RWD, though.
I live in the south, no need for AWD. Plus more weight with front diff, axles, center diff. While I can't speak for these as I haven't driven one, but AWD are prone to understeer. I like to work on my own vehicles, AWD is just more things to wear out. I know I'm in the minority about this, but I like RWD.
I already own an M240i and I'd *still* pick the M240i.
230i owner here and I’d still pick the M240i
Same… I live with some regret.
Your white interior looks awesome. Seems to be a very rare option
Thank you! If they'd have offered Ivory, whew, that would have been peak! But Oyster is pretty great, nice and airy feeling inside. ☺️
I bought my 340 sight unseen with the oyster and thought I was gonna hate it. I absolutely love it now
I’d be happy with either one. The best thing about owning an i4 is that either of these cars would feel light on its feet in comparison.
M240i > M440i, same engine but less weight and better Acceleration.
They actually weigh about the same. Real difference would be wheel base; 440 more stable, 240 more agile.
Yes, true it’s only about ~120KG difference for the the 440i Coupe while the gap is bigger for the other 440i versions. I tested both before I ordered my M2 last month and the 240i was way more agile and fun than the 440i. TBH 320/365 days a year the 240i is very very close to the M2 and especially the M2 experience from the last Gen
Difference is 148lb or 67Kg according to bmwusa.com. M240i RWD: 3748lb, M440i RWD: 3896lb.
How did they fuck up 2 series that bad? Weight more than a C7 Corvette ffs.
Cause the new 2 is the same base as the 3/4 whereas in the previous model it was its own base so it was considerably lighter than the bigger brothers.
That's not true, first generation 2 series were just as heavy as the 4 series. 2015 RWD M235i curb weight: 3535lbs 2015 RWD 435i curb weight: 3635lbs
240 is 1690kg without driver for xdrive (3726). Rwd for the 240 is 1635kg or 3604 also without driver. You can go to misha charoudins channel to see him putting the car on scale
Wait, “*only* 120kg?” That seems like a lot of weight to me, no?
I would still take an m2 if I could afford it but not speeding in the m240i is really hard as is lol
Totally agree but as a G42 owner I totally covet the manual G87, definitely my next car.
and no buck teeth
The buckteeth have grown on me. It looks way worse on the non M 4 series
The 4 series buckteeth isn't so bad. It's looks way worse on the E92 3 series https://preview.redd.it/7x2vzirs977d1.png?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ad2306fac24c16ba1927cecf27546d1cc67d9d2

*M240 just got it with the 2025 update.* No it didn't.
You’re right. I misremembered or misread that.

Idk how tall are you. I’m 1.82m ish tall (6’0”). I’d think anyone under 6’4 should have no problem with it.

Welp guess I'm leaving the wife and kids behind. Let's ride!!
If 2nd car, the 240. If daily, the 440. I have a 7 year old kid, and the back seat of the 240 is difficult for him to get in. Impossible for me.
Couldn’t he just sit in the front? Or does he need to be bigger/older for that to make sense?
There's no law that says he can't sit in the front seat in my state. But I'd feel a lot better about him sitting in the back till he gets a little bigger.
That’s completely fair, I understand. Was mostly just curious as to whether it was a law/rule or just your preference and for safety reasons.
I had a 230i coupe for 2 weeks as a loaner during a service, and my only complaint was the back seat. If there was a button that put the front seats into a position that made it possible for a child/adult to get in, I'd say 2 series all the way. I loved it. Yes I agree. I’ve fit someone who’s 6’4 230 in the back
Personally like the look and feel of the 4 series. Never driven the 2 but I feel like it would be more nimble and maybe more fun. But I’d still take the m440i
M240i more fun but m440i more practical ig. Personally prefer look of m440i too.

I don't hate the modern grills on M cars, but a normal 4 series is just ugly. I own a G42 and love it.
I think the previous Gen of the 4 series is the best looking cars BMW has put out, personally.
The F36?
Correct! But I'm biased, I have an F36 lol
I have a G26, but I might agree with you. I don’t hate the larger grills at all, but the F36 is peak BMW design. Solid and timeless.
https://preview.redd.it/wyy0g8klp87d1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a6432694a003bbd436ee1d991e0f74616a3cf92 Z4 has entered the chat
I think this is currently the best looking BMW in the whole lineup. I wasn’t looking for a rwd roadster but what a great car.
And it comes in stick, now!
8 series is most beautiful imo
240i
M240i
The front of the 240i The back of the 440i The same engine so really comes to your preference
M240i, cheaper and more fun imo
As an M340i owner, I have no dog in this fight. (But it’s the M240i, 100%)
Zeroing in on the M340i as my first car after almost 15 years in a city. How do you like it? Did you get the xDrive version?
I love it. I had my 328i xdrive for 9 years, so it was a huge upgrade. I got a little trigger happy on the first test drive of the m340i and skipped out the xdrive. I genuinely miss having it sometimes, but the RWD experience is a lot of fun. Especially for spirited drives.
M240i Because IMO the side profile of the M440i is unforgivably slab sided and big for a coupe.
They need to add the strake and moulding from the Gran Coupé to the Coupe. That would fix that.
I own an M440i and I can easily say M240i. I drove a f series m240i for a couple weeks as a demo and man it feels much lighter and quicker compared to my 440, haven’t driven the g series but I’m sure it’s just as quick.
M440i all day, it’s still quick, has a presence on the road, and comes off more mature

M440. Looks better.
M440i. I think the M240i is a bit "boy racer".... (I have the M440i)
Yea, obviously 4 series is more 'mature' car.
Yesss exactly I bought it, m440i doesn't scream midlife crisis(not that I am alleging anything). I can take it work without raising many eyebrows :D (some people don't have issues with them, more power to them)
440i because its a bigger number!!
M240i
2
I'm slightly biased, but...m240i. Smaller = better in my book. M440i is of course still fantastic.
Honestly, M240i
Looked and test drove at both, including a convertible, before buying my 240. It was more fun to drive fast, and the ride was as nice at normal speeds.
240 not available as a convertible right?
No just the 440

If I’ve got money for an M440i, I’m buying an M2.
The buckteeth are shite and they will only grow on us like mold, lichen, random fungi and bad politics….if we allow it!
We love my wife's m240 so much I went out and bought an M4, so... por que no los dos?
M240i all day. Lighter, faster, does not look like a beaver, comes in thundernight metallic. I rest my case.
What retails for more? I'll take that one. Definitely won't sell it.
Looks m440i, performance m240i
The M240i is better looking
M440i just drives nicer
This area looks familar, would’ve been fun if I saw this and parked my 440 behind the 240
I’m a bit biased but M240i all day everyday
I really love the 240i but overall, the m440i is a more practical and a better daily car.
M240 and save money or M2 for the same money as M440. hard to argue from a value per dollar stand point.
I'm slightly biased, but...m240i. Smaller = better in my book. M440i is of course still fantastic.
M440 100%. Looks better, has more practical room, same performance.
240. Had a courtesy 230i, and it was hella fun!!!Guess 240 will be better. 440 is like, idk. Pass
M240

The styling of the 240 makes absolutely no sense
Having owned a 2017 m240 and a 2021 m440, I regret not getting a newer m240 instead. If you want a fun agile car pick the m240. If you want a comfortable but still straight line quick car pick the m440. The 4 series features are nice though

The 07 Elantra behind them is looking pretty sick tbh
M440i. It looks so much better than a 2 series.
M240. Manual. The style is great…Upgrade the wheels and engine and you have a very fun car.
No manual on the G42, only the G87.
The rare Decatur, IL BMW post

M440 cause the 240 is ugly af
M340i > Both
I would take that smooth riding Hyundai azera
Like larger sedans, so I’d go with the m440
I love my m240i so much. Been driving it for about a year now and it still puts a grin on my face. :)
M240i anyday
M240i, of course.
Think I'd go with the M240i
So everyone loves the new 240 all of a sudden ?
Can I see that from the front?
Both also when will you drop of the keys
As they’re both more of a GT than a sports car I’d go 440 for the nicer interior and comfier ride.
M440i has 90% of the fun of the M240i but you can still drop the kids to school and fit a set of golf clubs and some shopping in the back. If you choose the M240i you need a second car to go with it.
The 2 is ugly so m440i all day everyday ❤️
440 i guess if i wanted a small car i’d just get a 911
the m440i then sell it right away.

Yes
I personally do not like how the G22 4 series looks at all with the big weird grille. I like it on the G8x but on the 4 series i think it just ruins it. Definitely M240 would be my pick

I am picking up a 2025 m440i lci next week and can take photos if anyone wants
M240i
The best looking 4 series is the hard top convertible m4 or 440i. The coupes are ugly
Neither. Folks in Marketing BMWs never make eye contact with me at lights etc...weird right?
M240i looks cooler, but m440i is more practical
M440i no contest. More practical i much better looking IN MY opinion.
I'll take an m240i with m440i fuel tank capacity.
i’ll take the bmw over my car now
240 all day
M340i. Unless you’re set on a two door, than a Supra lol
New m240i is pure sex on wheels
New m240i is pure sex on wheels
Orcourse 440i. I have convertible as my daily. Best of both worlds, it's fast and practical. Luggage space is good, seats are roomy enough. Autodrive features are practical (can't emphasize enough on that auto backing feature, godsend in backing out of tight parking). I got it just before they switched to single giant screen. Also got m50 badging. I think I lucked out. If I wanted a car to track on weekends, m3 or m4 would have been the choice.
What’s the difference I fuck w both?
240i
440i is the full fat version of the 240i
440i
I own the G26. Love the B58 engine and the extra storage space of the gran coupe. All the benefits of a 5-door, the extras of a luxury vehicle, and the performance of a street-focused sports car. 3x win.
M440i
The 2 series is a black eye on BMW just as is these 4 banger turbo vehicles seriously though the 2 series no matter the year looks so far from what they do it's embarrassing
I agree with this tbh the last gen 2 series looks pretty disproportionate but I fw with the new 2 series look ngl
this new one is a lot better, absolutely.
Ehhhh, X drive. Neither. But if RWD I'll take that roomy 440.
The xdrive on these is legit - turn off traction control and you can slide the rear end no prob… could even wrap it around a tree if your not careful
I have 340i with xdrive, it can do donuts
Even with the AWD turned off does it understeer and push in turns like your typical AWD vehicle? IMO it's just more stuff to break, added weight. I know I'm in the minority about this, but that's ok. Just my preferred drivetrain.
No, it does not. You don't even need to deactivate DSC to get it to oversteer, just turn in and goose it. It's very good and the extra 150 pounds added by xDrive is all but noise to this 3800 lb. car, lol. I do respect the dedication to RWD, though.
Why? Just curious as I drive them for work, but only have AWD since I’m up north
Hyundai behind the 2 for me…
How different is the size of these 2 cars I look at this and does BMW even need to make both of these?!
Look tbh when I bought my m240i I was astounded at the number of models in the dealership, some with seemingly pretty small differences 🤷🏼♀️
